Our Man Bashir: 007 Reasons to Love It

This week on Trek Geeks, Bill & Dan are donning their tuxedos (metaphorically, of course) and ordering their martinis "shaken, not stirred" as they dive into the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine classic, Our Man Bashir! Join us for a lively discussion of this holosuite caper that combines Star Trek's charm with a healthy dose of spy genre flair.

But wait—there's more! The guys simply can't help themselves, so prepare for an avalanche of references to James Bond, Austin Powers, Our Man Flint, and even Matt Helm. From Sean Connery's suave moves to Mike Myers' groovy antics, nothing is off-limits as they connect the dots between 1960s spy kitsch and the future of Starfleet.

You'll laugh, you'll groan (at Dan, mostly), and you might even be inspired to watch a Bond flick or two after this episode. Is this their most over-the-top discussion yet? Possibly. Is it a blast? Absolutely. Don't miss it!

Grab your gadgets, geeks—this mission is about to self-destruct in 3… 2… 1…

[00:00:42] Hi, this is Gates McFadden who played Dr. Beverly Crusher from Star Trek The Next Generation. And you're listening to the Trek Geeks Podcast with Bill Smith and Dan Davidson.

[00:01:43] From the secret agent division of Podfleet Command, it's the biggest little show this side of the Alpha Quadrant and the flagship of the Trek Geeks Podcast Network. Greetings to you, viewers and listeners alike all over the globe and the galaxy and all the things. And welcome to the Trek Geeks Podcast.

[00:01:59] I am your co-host Bill Smith and this is episode number 319 of this fine show, which is due to celebrate its 10th anniversary in just a matter of weeks. That's 10 years behind the microphone with my co-host.

[00:02:16] He's somebody who drives me to drink. He's somebody who makes me take mental health days. He's somebody who I can only hope if he were a secret agent, he would be discovered on a knock list and dealt with summarily.

[00:02:30] He is the really untalented and classless Dan Davidson. Dan, welcome aboard, buddy. It's good to have you here.

[00:02:39] And yet here we are. It's still doing it for 10 years, buddy. It's got to tell you something. You've got problems. It's great to be here. Good to see you, man. I am excited to be here.

[00:02:49] It's been a while since we sat down behind the microphones to talk Star Trek and I'm glad that we're here to do it. Festive season. I'm in the festive mood and we're going to have a great time tonight. Absolutely great time.

[00:03:01] Well, one of us will have a great time. Maybe a few of the viewers will. Ross McKinney brings up a great point. 10 years of Dan. Wow.

[00:03:10] I've got almost 30 years of Dan and let me tell you, nobody should have to go through that.

[00:03:17] It's a wonderful life. I will tell you that. 10 years of Dan.

[00:03:24] 30 years though, too much. I'm here to tell you.

[00:03:26] I will say that's a little bit, you know, that's, you know, I got to give you a special prize for that one because that is, I don't know what's going to happen with my wife when we hit that 30 years because I can see what it's done to you.

[00:03:37] She'll have murdered you by then.

[00:03:40] Not wrong. Not wrong.

[00:03:42] You're going to wind up the subject of a Dateline NBC episode.

[00:03:46] I'm okay with that.

[00:03:47] Your body will go missing in international waters.

[00:03:50] Yes. All right. I'll look forward to that.

[00:03:53] I think anyway, no, you know, a lot of shows do an after dark episode.

[00:03:57] Ours just goes dark.

[00:03:59] I mean, we're only what five minutes and 45 seconds in and four minutes of that was all our cool special effects stuff that you put together over the last several months.

[00:04:08] So, yeah.

[00:04:09] Yeah.

[00:04:10] I do.

[00:04:10] Okay.

[00:04:11] I do.

[00:04:12] You do.

[00:04:12] Tonight, Dan, we're actually going to talk about an episode that you actually brought up.

[00:04:17] Yeah.

[00:04:18] And I don't remember why the heck you did it.

[00:04:20] Well, I do remember why.

[00:04:22] And I'll be happy to tell you, Bill.

[00:04:24] So, it was just a couple of weeks ago.

[00:04:27] I was working in my Plex library.

[00:04:29] And what I like to do in my Plex library is I like to customize the movie posters.

[00:04:34] So, I'll go around every once in a while.

[00:04:36] And I went into my James Bond collection.

[00:04:39] And boom.

[00:04:39] I'm like, whoa.

[00:04:41] Our man Bashir.

[00:04:42] Let's do it.

[00:04:43] I typey typey to Bill.

[00:04:45] Bill, let's do our man Bashir.

[00:04:47] And he gave me the thumbs up, which is extremely rare.

[00:04:50] So, I'm going to take it and run with it.

[00:04:52] I'm a little concerned you called it typey typey.

[00:04:55] Typey typey.

[00:04:56] All right.

[00:04:56] We need to break in here for a second and ask Dan.

[00:04:59] Dan, what are you drinking?

[00:05:02] Oh, I haven't even started drinking.

[00:05:04] But you would think I have for a while, right?

[00:05:05] Yes.

[00:05:06] I'm in a festive mood.

[00:05:08] And the festive drink of the season is, it's not a martini glass.

[00:05:12] But it is an eggnog martini with a hot cocoa and English toffee sugared rim.

[00:05:22] I have a lot of feelings.

[00:05:24] And that's because I don't like eggnog.

[00:05:25] It makes me want to lag.

[00:05:27] Yeah.

[00:05:28] I was not an eggnog fan until recently.

[00:05:31] And then I found this recipe.

[00:05:33] It is my wife and I.

[00:05:34] One of our favorites for the holiday season.

[00:05:37] We really like this one.

[00:05:38] The other one we like is a cranberry peppermint martini, which is also very good.

[00:05:42] But yeah, I want eggnog tonight.

[00:05:44] I'm drinking a classic beverage known to most of the world as water.

[00:05:51] Usually you need to drink when we record just because.

[00:05:56] Oh, I pregamed.

[00:05:59] You're looking very festive today, I might add.

[00:06:02] Thank you.

[00:06:02] You have your trickery going.

[00:06:04] I have mine off here to the side, which you can't see.

[00:06:06] Yeah.

[00:06:07] Haley's starting early.

[00:06:08] Haley's not wrong though.

[00:06:10] Let's give her a credit.

[00:06:11] She's not wrong, but they're extremely yummy.

[00:06:13] And so that, that take the girl factor out of it because the tastier they are, the more

[00:06:19] okay it is to drink them.

[00:06:22] So anyway.

[00:06:22] I would love it if you would just develop an affinity for bourbon or something just once.

[00:06:27] I do like, I do like some whiskey.

[00:06:29] Oh, you'll like this one then.

[00:06:30] I'm going to get off on a tangent before we start talking man Bashir because we're talking

[00:06:33] drinks.

[00:06:34] You know, we both love screwball peanut butter whiskey.

[00:06:36] We do.

[00:06:37] We do.

[00:06:37] They came out with a screwball peanut butter eggnog whiskey, which we picked up this weekend

[00:06:44] and it is good, but it is about as thick as motor oil.

[00:06:51] So thicker than Dan Davidson.

[00:06:53] So cheers.

[00:06:55] Um, well that's fantastic.

[00:06:57] Dan, of course, uh, Dan's recipe not available anywhere.

[00:07:00] Um, although he might publish it to camp Kittimer later if people ask him to.

[00:07:05] I can do that.

[00:07:06] I'd be, I'd be happy to do that.

[00:07:07] Actually.

[00:07:07] I will do it.

[00:07:08] How about that?

[00:07:09] Um, see that you do, mister.

[00:07:11] See that you do.

[00:07:12] Uh, so our man Bashir, um, I, I'm a big James Bond fan.

[00:07:16] I always have been from the days of Sean Connery.

[00:07:18] Up until now, except for those Roger Moore years.

[00:07:21] Um, do you have a favorite bond?

[00:07:23] Let us know in the comments.

[00:07:24] We're curious.

[00:07:25] Who's your favorite bond?

[00:07:26] Uh, Sean Connery by far.

[00:07:28] Okay.

[00:07:29] Daniel Craig for me.

[00:07:30] I just love he's, he's the most, um, normal humanized bond.

[00:07:35] I think.

[00:07:36] Um, so I really like him and I never, I never really had a problem with Roger Moore either,

[00:07:40] but, uh, Daniel Craig's my guy.

[00:07:42] Roger Moore.

[00:07:43] Roger Moore.

[00:07:44] All I can think of him is I can just think of him in cannonball run.

[00:07:47] Um, yes.

[00:07:49] Yeah, that was, that was good.

[00:07:51] Roger Moore.

[00:07:53] I haven't seen that in a long time.

[00:07:55] Um, it's a, it's, it's not a great movie, but it's a fun movie.

[00:08:00] Um, we have some, some votes here.

[00:08:02] Helen.

[00:08:03] Yes.

[00:08:03] Sean Connery for sure.

[00:08:04] Sean and Daniel Pierce Brosnan.

[00:08:08] That's a, that's a dark horse pick.

[00:08:09] I like it though.

[00:08:11] Even though that last movie die another day is pretty putrid.

[00:08:14] Who's, uh, uh, who's the other one who did license to kill?

[00:08:19] Timothy Dalton.

[00:08:19] Timothy Dalton.

[00:08:20] I like that one.

[00:08:21] I like, I'm not a huge fan of his portrayal of bond, but I do like license to kill.

[00:08:26] I think that's a great one.

[00:08:27] That's a good movie.

[00:08:27] Your face is a license to kill.

[00:08:29] He's damn right.

[00:08:30] And don't you forget it.

[00:08:31] I don't know what that means, but okay.

[00:08:34] I don't know either, but Dan, let's do a little business here with America before we go too

[00:08:39] far.

[00:09:02] We are so lucky to have our friends at fansets, you know, each and every week be the presenting

[00:11:13] Good idea.

[00:11:17] We call it Trek Talks 4 because it seemed like the obvious choice.

[00:11:19] To benefit Hollywood Food Coalition, January 18, Saturday, 10 to 6 Pacific time on YouTube.

[00:11:25] Find out more at trektalks.net.

[00:11:44] John will blow up his face like a puffer fish.

[00:11:47] Oh, quite.

[00:11:48] Can you blow up your face like a puffer fish?

[00:11:51] I didn't know there would be a...

[00:11:51] I...

[00:11:52] Interact.

[00:11:53] Beeks.

[00:11:55] You brought talks.

[00:11:56] Mm-hmm.

[00:11:57] Oh.

[00:11:58] That's Saturday, January 18, 2025.

[00:12:02] MLK weekend.

[00:12:03] So, you know, before the Monday holiday, sit down for eight hours of great Star Trek discussion,

[00:12:09] Dan.

[00:12:09] I'd like to blow up your face, Bill.

[00:12:12] Wow.

[00:12:13] This is taking a distinct turn.

[00:12:14] No, I'll tell you what.

[00:12:16] This is pretty freaking amazing what we got going on on the 18th of January.

[00:12:22] This lineup is just absolutely unbelievable.

[00:12:25] You know, when we started this four years ago, we were just so excited with every single guest

[00:12:30] that we've gotten.

[00:12:30] And every year, it seems that that bar has been raised with the people who are coming on.

[00:12:36] So, so excited for Sonequa and Kate and David.

[00:12:40] And of course, Jonathan is just...

[00:12:42] I love talking to him.

[00:12:43] He's like one of the funniest people on the planet.

[00:12:45] So it's going to be fun.

[00:12:46] It's going to be awesome.

[00:12:47] We're going to raise a lot of money again for the Hollywood Food Coalition.

[00:12:51] And we can't wait for the 18th to get here.

[00:12:53] Hurry up, 18th.

[00:12:54] Get here.

[00:12:55] Hurry up.

[00:12:56] Some of us have a lot of work to do still.

[00:12:58] So let's not wish that away forever.

[00:13:00] That's true.

[00:13:01] Good point.

[00:13:02] So Dan, I know it's been a long time since we've talked about this.

[00:13:07] And, you know, it's rare for us to do it these days.

[00:13:11] But I just want to say, Dan, it's time for the news from TrekNews.net.

[00:13:22] Spanning the Alpha Quadrant.

[00:13:26] For all the news on all the Star Trek show.

[00:13:33] It's TrekNews.net.

[00:13:36] Dilly son of a bitch.

[00:13:40] Told you I had something special.

[00:13:42] Online at TrekNews.net.

[00:13:45] I think I'm about to faint.

[00:13:46] That was amazing.

[00:13:49] Dan, here we are.

[00:13:50] It's time for the news.

[00:13:51] We haven't done news in a long, long time.

[00:13:53] We've got special graphics for the news, which is kind of cool.

[00:13:57] Kind of an upgrade.

[00:13:58] Because normally I just have to look at your face and nobody wants to do that.

[00:14:02] But, Dan, up first.

[00:14:04] Yeah.

[00:14:05] It looks like there is some Star Trek Starfleet Academy casting news.

[00:14:12] Yeah.

[00:14:12] This is pretty awesome for anybody who are fans of the WWE.

[00:14:16] WWE.

[00:14:17] I happen to kind of know a couple people that are big fans.

[00:14:20] But wrestler Becky Lynch has been cast in Starfleet Academy.

[00:14:25] Kind of cool.

[00:14:27] Her real name is Rebecca Quinn.

[00:14:29] She announced it on her social media page.

[00:14:33] Quote.

[00:14:33] And I'm not going to try to do the Irish accent.

[00:14:36] But I want to do what I'm not going to do.

[00:14:38] Thank you.

[00:14:38] Quote.

[00:14:39] When you've already been champion of the world, there's really only one place to go next.

[00:14:43] And that's to the stars.

[00:14:44] I'm so excited to share with all of you that I am joining Star Trek Starfleet Academy as part of the bridge crew.

[00:14:50] And lads, this has to be the most incredible experience acting alongside a spectacular cast and crew.

[00:14:57] And I cannot wait for you, for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.

[00:15:02] And hey, live long and prosper.

[00:15:04] Very exciting news.

[00:15:05] I have never seen her wrestle.

[00:15:09] I'm going to absolutely check it out now and see what it's all about.

[00:15:13] But this is good.

[00:15:14] This is big.

[00:15:15] There's been some big names.

[00:15:16] Of course, Mary Wisen will be reprising her role.

[00:15:18] Tig Notaro.

[00:15:19] Odin Fair.

[00:15:20] They'll all be back with Robert Picardo from Star Trek Voyager is also going to be part of the cast.

[00:15:24] It's going to be pretty awesome.

[00:15:26] Paul Giamatti is the villain.

[00:15:27] So check that out.

[00:15:28] That was my Paul Giamatti impersonation.

[00:15:30] But that was terrible.

[00:15:32] And don't forget, I've never done one before.

[00:15:34] Academy Award winner, Holly Hunter.

[00:15:37] Yes.

[00:15:37] How could I forget that?

[00:15:38] It's me.

[00:15:39] I don't know.

[00:15:40] Sorry.

[00:15:40] I'm sorry.

[00:15:41] That's partly because you're stupid, I think.

[00:15:44] I'm not going to agree with that one.

[00:15:48] Interesting, Jim.

[00:15:49] Starfleet Academy, I thought, is a land-based series.

[00:15:51] So I'm interested to see where a character will be.

[00:15:53] We don't actually have any detail on it right now.

[00:15:55] So I would imagine there's got to be a space aspect to it somehow.

[00:16:00] Maybe they go on little missions here and there.

[00:16:03] But who knows?

[00:16:04] Paul Giamatti is going to play like the evil principal of the Academy.

[00:16:08] I have no idea.

[00:16:09] I just don't know.

[00:16:11] If you're right, I'm going to be so pissed.

[00:16:15] One can wish.

[00:16:17] One can wish.

[00:16:18] Moving on, Dan.

[00:16:20] Recently, there was a trailer for the brand new Section 31 movie, which will stream exclusively on Paramount Plus, starring another Oscar winner who is near and dear to our hearts.

[00:16:31] Absolutely.

[00:16:31] Michelle Yeoh.

[00:16:32] You know what?

[00:16:33] She can watch.

[00:16:34] I'll watch anything she's in.

[00:16:36] I'm very happy to see her reprising her role.

[00:16:39] Yes, the Star Trek Section 31, the latest trailer, is now out and available.

[00:16:44] As Bill said, it's going to be streaming on Paramount Plus.

[00:16:48] Lots of interesting things going on in this trailer.

[00:16:51] I've only watched it once.

[00:16:54] I will be watching it again.

[00:16:55] Of course, it's going to be available on January 24th.

[00:16:57] So that's right around the corner, right after Trek Talks 4.

[00:17:00] I'll be able to download that or stream it, I should say.

[00:17:04] Looks pretty interesting.

[00:17:05] Of course, Section 31 is near and dear to my heart.

[00:17:07] I've always loved it ever since Deep Space Nine.

[00:17:09] So we'll see what happens with that clandestine group of people trying to save the galaxy from some force that we don't know about yet.

[00:17:19] Yeah.

[00:17:20] Clandestine.

[00:17:21] I said it.

[00:17:21] I don't know what it means, but I used that word anyway.

[00:17:25] I think you're more excited for the S31 movie than I am.

[00:17:29] I'm curious to see who is excited for this in the comments and who is not.

[00:17:33] I'm going to.

[00:17:35] I'm decidedly unexcited.

[00:17:36] Stop stepping on me, you jerk.

[00:17:37] I'm not trying to step on you.

[00:17:39] I will surprise you when I say this.

[00:17:41] I love Section 31.

[00:17:42] I am not very excited for this.

[00:17:45] Yeah.

[00:17:46] I'm waiting to see what happens after it comes out.

[00:17:50] The trailers have left me a little disappointed.

[00:17:55] Meh?

[00:17:56] As Ryan would say.

[00:17:57] Yeah.

[00:17:57] As Ryan says.

[00:17:59] You know, Olatande Usun-Somni is directing it, so that's a big plus.

[00:18:04] But I don't know.

[00:18:06] I just.

[00:18:07] I.

[00:18:08] The trailers have not hit me the way I thought they would.

[00:18:11] So we'll see.

[00:18:12] Yeah.

[00:18:12] I was completely unimpressed by the trailer.

[00:18:17] To me, it's Trek.

[00:18:18] I'm excited.

[00:18:19] I get it.

[00:18:20] True.

[00:18:20] Yeah.

[00:18:21] Yeah.

[00:18:21] There's a part of me that's happy to see Trek in any new form.

[00:18:24] I just want something that I'm going to enjoy.

[00:18:28] The fact that we've gotten as little as we've gotten so far leads me to wonder why.

[00:18:33] I don't.

[00:18:34] I don't know.

[00:18:35] So more Trek.

[00:18:38] Okay.

[00:18:38] The sisters have spoken and we will shut up now.

[00:18:41] I mean, Michelle Yeo.

[00:18:43] I mean, how could it go wrong?

[00:18:45] Right?

[00:18:46] Right.

[00:18:46] Yeah.

[00:18:47] I mean, I have to believe that Michelle Yeo is in it.

[00:18:49] It's going to be better than the trailer made it look because I don't think the trailer

[00:18:52] made it look very interesting.

[00:18:54] Yeah.

[00:18:54] I would agree.

[00:18:54] And Jason has a very good point.

[00:18:56] I'm excited to see Michelle Yeo.

[00:18:59] Not impressed with the trailer.

[00:19:00] I guess that's a good way to wrap it up and sum it up right there.

[00:19:03] Good.

[00:19:03] Good job.

[00:19:03] Good job, Jason.

[00:19:04] Good job, buddy.

[00:19:04] Oh, thank you for telling me to move on.

[00:19:06] I really appreciate this.

[00:19:09] Dan up next.

[00:19:10] Fandom was kind of a buzz a few weeks ago with the brand new unification short featuring

[00:19:17] the return in a way of William Shatner as Captain Kirk and people lost their damn mind.

[00:19:26] Yeah, people really did.

[00:19:27] And it's funny.

[00:19:28] I remember the day that this came out.

[00:19:29] I saw it all over the place and I was like, what is this?

[00:19:31] I'm really not interested.

[00:19:32] I'm not going to watch it.

[00:19:33] I got too much to do.

[00:19:34] Training with my new job and everything like that.

[00:19:36] So I don't watch it.

[00:19:37] But then I just kept seeing more and more and seeing these images of Kirk.

[00:19:41] So I checked it out.

[00:19:42] And interesting, to say the least.

[00:19:45] So we get this.

[00:19:46] I don't know.

[00:19:47] Should we do spoilers?

[00:19:48] Do we care about we're doing spoilers tonight or not?

[00:19:50] I don't know if you can really call it a spoiler.

[00:19:52] It's not canon.

[00:19:54] It's okay.

[00:19:55] It's been over for a few weeks.

[00:19:56] The way I look at it is it was a way for Kirk to welcome Spock to the afterlife

[00:20:03] because he was already dead and Spock was dying.

[00:20:05] So I kind of looked at it like that.

[00:20:07] You get to see younger versions of him and other words.

[00:20:10] You got to see some other characters from the Star Trek universe who, based on this,

[00:20:15] kind of maybe have also passed on, like Savick.

[00:20:19] Robin Curtis.

[00:20:20] It's always great to see her in anything because she's just one of the most wonderful people on the planet.

[00:20:25] But it was different.

[00:20:29] I'm not going to say I disliked it, but I'm not going to say it was the greatest thing ever.

[00:20:33] So it was kind of cool to see Kirk, William Shatner, reprised, of course, using AI facial technology and stuff.

[00:20:40] But yeah, it was a little strange.

[00:20:42] But I will say one of the things as I was watching and listening to it, I'm like, that's got to be Michael's music from Lost and the Star Trek reboot.

[00:20:51] And sure enough, when the credits rolled, it was him who did the music.

[00:20:53] So that made me very Apple.

[00:20:55] Apple?

[00:20:55] Apple?

[00:20:56] Apple.

[00:20:57] Apple.

[00:20:58] Apple.

[00:20:59] Yeah.

[00:21:00] Yeah.

[00:21:00] I still don't know what to think about the thing.

[00:21:04] I don't get it.

[00:21:06] Sam Witwer was fantastic in learning William Shatner's mannerisms.

[00:21:12] I know there was a mix of digital prosthetics and CGI to some extent.

[00:21:19] Um, I thought it, I thought that Sam was flawless and anyone who knows Sam Witwer knows he's an incredibly talented actor.

[00:21:26] Who's done a lot of, especially voice work is Darth Darth Maul in the Star Wars franchise.

[00:21:30] Um, among other things, he's a huge nerd, huge Star Trek fan.

[00:21:34] Um, while others were emotional, I had zero emotion whatsoever.

[00:21:41] Um, and I don't know why, maybe that's because I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing.

[00:21:47] Um, that's not a criticism by any means.

[00:21:51] That's my own misunderstanding or failing, but it's, uh, it's definitely something that's been thought provoking, but it was, it made me ask so many questions about a whole bunch of things.

[00:22:05] I have a question.

[00:22:07] I'm not surprised.

[00:22:08] Yes.

[00:22:10] And, and I should know the answers and I apologize that I don't was William Shatner actually in it because he is mentioned as a cast member of this.

[00:22:19] He's also the executive producer.

[00:22:21] Um, but is he actually in this short or is it all computer generated for, for him?

[00:22:29] It's a mix of computer generation and digital prosthetics.

[00:22:33] Okay.

[00:22:33] Um, so, you know, there are, you know, um, his likeness is represented, which is why he gets a credit.

[00:22:41] I'm sure.

[00:22:41] Okay.

[00:22:42] Gotcha.

[00:22:42] If he's got an EP credit, that means he probably got paid, which is fine.

[00:22:45] Yeah.

[00:22:45] Um, I don't begrudge anybody that with regards to this.

[00:22:50] Um, but you know, it's, I, uh, in fact, uh, to me, uh, you know, hits it on right on the head.

[00:22:58] Thought provoking.

[00:22:59] It was very, it was curious.

[00:23:02] Um, yeah.

[00:23:04] I will say that the, the scenes with Spock were, were emotional, which is kind of ironic when it's with Spock.

[00:23:12] But, um, I did like, I did like those scenes where they were looking out over the sunrise or sunset or whatever it was.

[00:23:18] Um, but yeah, it was, it was, it was, it was unexpected, I guess is my best way that I would describe what I felt about it.

[00:23:25] Unexpected.

[00:23:26] It was without a doubt a top shelf job by everybody involved.

[00:23:31] Yeah.

[00:23:31] Um, it, it looked amazing, you know, from the special effects to the production design, to the finished product, to the costumes.

[00:23:43] Everything looked perfect.

[00:23:45] And I think that that is amazing in today, you know, in today's day and age, so many people nitpick so much that this was just spot on perfection as far as the way it looked.

[00:23:58] Yeah, it's really cool.

[00:24:00] Well, and one of the things that's very cool about it, if I, if I read the article correctly is the premiere of this took place up in Ticonderoga at the official set while Shatner was there with Robin Curtis and Lawrence Selleck who played Spock.

[00:24:13] Um, so that, that's kind of cool to be able to, for them to watch that world premiere on the main view screen of the bridge of the enterprise.

[00:24:20] That's kind of, that is kind of cool.

[00:24:21] Yeah.

[00:24:22] Well, Dan, lastly, um, you and I are a little bummed this week because we say goodbye to star Trek lower decks, the final episode airing.

[00:24:32] Um, as we record this, this coming Thursday.

[00:24:36] And, um, I'm really bummed.

[00:24:39] I, I'm sorry.

[00:24:40] I still don't know why they decided to cancel the show.

[00:24:42] This show could go on for so many more years, bringing entertainment, comedy, great Easter eggs, fantastic guest stars and everything.

[00:24:52] I'm so bummed out that this is, this is ending, uh, this week will be the final episode, uh, entitled the new next generation.

[00:25:01] Um, and it's, it's very sad.

[00:25:03] It's very, it's a very sad thing that a great show, it is a great star Trek show.

[00:25:10] Anybody who's like, Oh, it's animation.

[00:25:12] It's an awesome star Trek show.

[00:25:14] And I'm very disappointed that, uh, we're saying goodbye to it.

[00:25:16] Mike McMahon and his team have done a stellar job for these five seasons.

[00:25:21] I could be not be more happy for him and his success with this show.

[00:25:26] Uh, it's really too bad.

[00:25:27] I, I wish somebody would pick it up, but I don't even know if that's an option.

[00:25:31] If, if they're even looking for anybody to do a season six.

[00:25:34] Um, but it could keep going for at least seven seasons, like all of the other legacy Trek did.

[00:25:39] I think if they want, it could go on for even longer than that because it's animated.

[00:25:43] Um, it could realistically run for 20 years.

[00:25:46] Yeah.

[00:25:47] It's the cheapest of all the shows to produce.

[00:25:49] Um, you know, it's cheaper than prodigy even I'm sure just based on the animation style.

[00:25:55] Yeah.

[00:25:55] But I think this goes back to my prediction from, you know, a few episodes ago where I

[00:26:01] think wrong as I hope I am.

[00:26:04] I think we are headed for another dark time in star Trek where there is no star Trek being

[00:26:09] produced.

[00:26:09] Kind of like the, the 2005 to 2017, where there was no Trek on new, new Trek on television.

[00:26:16] Um, I just, I've got that feeling.

[00:26:18] I think that they've probably oversaturated the market again.

[00:26:21] I know Kurtzman's deal is coming up in less than two years.

[00:26:26] I'm sure that paramount is going to be looking to cut costs there.

[00:26:29] And I'm sure the first thing that's going to go is star Trek.

[00:26:32] Yeah.

[00:26:33] It's really amazing.

[00:26:34] Just a couple of years ago, two, three years ago, we were sitting here recording, talking

[00:26:39] about how it was the best time in history to be a star Trek fan because of all the new

[00:26:44] Trek that was out there, all the Trek that was out, all the Trek that was planned.

[00:26:48] And now really quickly, now it looks like stuff is starting to wind down and it's really,

[00:26:54] it's really kind of a bummer.

[00:26:56] It is.

[00:26:57] Um, I, you know, uh, episode nine of this season was just amazing.

[00:27:02] Um, I, I don't want to, if, if somebody hasn't seen it yet, I don't want to go through all

[00:27:06] the, you know, the, uh, the guest characters that are part of it, but my mind was blown a

[00:27:11] couple of times.

[00:27:12] Just people I never expected to be back in star Trek.

[00:27:15] Yep.

[00:27:16] And I, it made me so excited.

[00:27:18] I'm, I'm bummed to see it all end this coming Thursday on paramount plus.

[00:27:23] Yeah.

[00:27:23] It's, I guess the only thing to look forward to, it's not lower decks related, but strange

[00:27:26] new worlds has been kicking ass and I can't wait for season three and that's coming right

[00:27:30] around the corner because lower decks is ending.

[00:27:32] So we get to look forward to that.

[00:27:33] It better.

[00:27:36] Well, Dan, shall we move on to this week's main topic?

[00:27:40] I mean, it's only been a half an hour since we, um, we wanted to talk about our man Bashir

[00:27:46] because, um, you have an exceedingly short attention span and your ability to be creative

[00:27:55] mimics what you see in a given day.

[00:27:57] Pretty much.

[00:27:58] Yep.

[00:27:58] Absolutely.

[00:27:59] Hey, James Bond.

[00:28:00] My name is Jeff.

[00:28:02] One of the things I love about our man Bashir is just how on the nose it just pays homage

[00:28:11] to not just James Bond, but our man Flint and Matt Helm and so many other secret agent

[00:28:18] spy things that we've seen throughout the decades.

[00:28:22] Yep.

[00:28:23] Absolutely.

[00:28:23] It is, it is a great tribute to all of those type of movies from the sixties.

[00:28:31] Um, everything from the great adventure to the ridiculous villains to the rampant sexism.

[00:28:38] I mean, it's just hysterical.

[00:28:40] I mean, the first thing I wrote down in my note, I got my notebook right here.

[00:28:43] First thing I wrote down is his personal valet is Mona loves it.

[00:28:48] That's her name.

[00:28:50] That's what we started with.

[00:28:51] And it's so perfect to what those movies were like back in the sixties.

[00:28:56] It was everybody involved in this one really, really came out with their a game.

[00:29:01] Well, I mean, if you think about it, I mean, it has to kind of be way too on the nose because

[00:29:06] you look at, you know, the, the bond women of the time.

[00:29:10] Yeah.

[00:29:10] You know, um, if you, you, you can even start with, you know, start with Pierce Brosnan and

[00:29:16] just work your way back.

[00:29:18] No, you've got Xenia on a top all the way back to pussy galore.

[00:29:22] Yeah.

[00:29:22] Um, it's just, it's, it, yes.

[00:29:27] I want to laugh at it, but in hindsight, I get a little cringe over it.

[00:29:32] I really do.

[00:29:33] Oh, today.

[00:29:34] Absolutely.

[00:29:34] That I don't think it would work today.

[00:29:36] Um, no, uh, it worked back in 1995.

[00:29:39] This was at first aired on November 27th, 95.

[00:29:43] Let's get some of the information out of the way.

[00:29:45] Uh, teleplay was by, uh, Ronald D Moore.

[00:29:47] The story was by Bob Gillen and directed by Vindic Korb.

[00:29:51] I actually practiced that before we came online because, uh, want to make sure I got it right.

[00:29:56] Um, yeah.

[00:29:57] So 1995, I can see how it was successful and that, uh, and that people, you know, kind

[00:30:03] of got that, you know, sixties vibe to it.

[00:30:05] It kind of reminds me a little bit of how they did it with bada bing, bada bang, getting,

[00:30:09] making sure that the genre was just right for the entire episode.

[00:30:12] And they really, they really knocked it out with this one.

[00:30:15] I want to know how the hell you can get Vinric Korb, but not Trek geeks.

[00:30:21] Trek geeks.

[00:30:22] Yes.

[00:30:23] How, how can you not say the name of your own podcast half the time?

[00:30:26] Help me, help me spunk.

[00:30:29] You can hit Vinric Korb out of the, out of the, out of the stadium.

[00:30:33] Home run.

[00:30:34] I, you have to practice.

[00:30:36] 406 baby.

[00:30:37] You know, 20, 20 minutes before I came upstairs.

[00:30:40] I'm like Vinric Korb, Vinric Korb.

[00:30:42] But of course I've done that before and screwed up people's names too, which I guess it doesn't

[00:30:45] really mean anything, but I'll take it when I get it.

[00:30:47] So thanks for the late, great Vinric Korb, I must say.

[00:30:50] Yes, absolutely.

[00:30:51] Unfortunately, we lost him way too soon.

[00:30:54] Yeah.

[00:30:56] Jim is a hundred percent right.

[00:30:57] One of life's many mysteries.

[00:30:58] Thanks, Jim.

[00:30:59] Jim.

[00:30:59] It's amazing that Dan can say his own name, let alone anybody else's.

[00:31:02] Let's be honest about sure.

[00:31:04] I screwed it up.

[00:31:04] Let's be honest.

[00:31:06] Dan Davidson.

[00:31:08] The other thing that this episode does is it kind of takes that sort of overdone holodeck

[00:31:16] malfunction episode that the TNG did just maybe one too many times and kind of turns it on

[00:31:23] its ear in a, in a kind of different and fun way.

[00:31:26] Yeah.

[00:31:27] We've seen so many holodeck gone wrong episodes.

[00:31:29] This wasn't a holodeck gone wrong.

[00:31:31] This was, they have to go on the holodeck in order to survive, which I liked the way that

[00:31:37] they did it.

[00:31:37] They were able to give Eddington something to do because we all know what happens with

[00:31:41] Eddington down the road.

[00:31:42] They were able to give Rom something to do.

[00:31:45] He's a huge part of the success of this episode and being able to keep everybody alive.

[00:31:50] Moody.

[00:31:51] So yeah, it's very, very cool.

[00:31:53] Um, but, um, one of the things we're probably going to talk about, but I'm going to bring

[00:31:58] it up now.

[00:31:59] Um, Jason actually mentioned that this came out right after golden eye, which ended a six

[00:32:05] year gap in bond movies.

[00:32:07] And when this episode came out, the folks at Paramount got a very not so nice letter from

[00:32:14] MGM and their, what they said was making fun of James Bond.

[00:32:18] The contents were never shared, but it was not a nice letter from MGM.

[00:32:22] Yeah.

[00:32:23] You know, in all fairness, in all fairness to Paramount, MGM can fuck off.

[00:32:31] Isn't parody the highest form of flattery?

[00:32:34] Absolutely.

[00:32:34] It really is.

[00:32:36] Which is why I make fun of you all the time.

[00:32:37] And you always don't understand that's because I love you.

[00:32:39] I don't think you understand what parody is.

[00:32:41] Um, they must've been really bent over Austin Powers.

[00:32:46] Yeah, absolutely.

[00:32:47] Austin Powers does it in a great comedic way.

[00:32:50] Deep Space Nine does it in a way that's, that's actually pretty serious, but still a little

[00:32:55] wink and nod to the camera.

[00:32:56] Like, you know, we're going to call it Honey Rider.

[00:33:01] But it's a, but it's such a good story too.

[00:33:04] I mean, it's, it's, it's, it's a good 60s spy movie wrapped up in a 44 minute TV episode.

[00:33:12] They, they really hit each thing that they need to hit throughout the episode from the sexism

[00:33:19] to the villain who over enunciates to the nth degree perfectly.

[00:33:24] God bless you, Avery Brooks for your best over enunciation performance in the entire

[00:33:30] run of Deep Space Nine, because it works perfectly.

[00:33:34] I love Hippocrates, Noah.

[00:33:36] Yes.

[00:33:37] Um, love, love Hippocrates, Noah.

[00:33:41] Yeah.

[00:33:41] Um, you know, if you're going to, you know, the sort of the, the character assignments

[00:33:46] in this episode are just perfection.

[00:33:48] I mean, if Julian is James Bond, Garrick has to be his Felix Leiter.

[00:33:54] Um, and Avery has to be, has to be the supervillain.

[00:33:59] Um, and has to be, you know what?

[00:34:02] I have to look up at the credits, whoever designed that outfit that Hippocrates wears.

[00:34:08] I would love to have one of those who wears a cosplay.

[00:34:11] That is a great villain costume for a 1960 spy movie in space.

[00:34:17] Um, it's just absolutely great.

[00:34:19] And on top of that, I will say whoever designed the record for the largest tuxedo collar in

[00:34:28] history on Garrick's tuxedo has got to give a special shout out because that must have

[00:34:33] been really something to design and put on Mr.

[00:34:37] Robinson.

[00:34:38] That collar is so big.

[00:34:39] It may as well be a hang glider.

[00:34:42] And then the same with the other one that he's wearing, it's like an ascot or something

[00:34:45] like that, that he's got with the jacket.

[00:34:47] Yeah.

[00:34:48] That's an entire sofa.

[00:34:51] It probably was sofa material.

[00:34:53] Absolutely.

[00:34:54] Everything.

[00:34:55] I mean, the wardrobe and all of it, Nana's dress was, was beautiful.

[00:34:59] Um, uh, and she did a great job as, as the Russian agent, uh, Anastasia Kamamanov, come up,

[00:35:06] come up, come up, something, something, something, um, but yeah, I love the wardrobe in this episode

[00:35:12] as well as many other things.

[00:35:15] Nana's character gets the best introduction in this entire episode.

[00:35:20] I mean, it is so sixties.

[00:35:23] It is so our man Flint to some degree, which is for those who haven't seen it, it's a great

[00:35:29] sixties spy movie.

[00:35:31] It's kind of half serious with James Coburn.

[00:35:34] Um, I've never taken those movies too seriously, even though I own them.

[00:35:38] Um, but they're just, they're fun.

[00:35:41] You know, if you enjoy the genre, if you enjoy the whole spy thing, you'll enjoy our man Flint

[00:35:45] to some degree.

[00:35:46] Yep.

[00:35:47] Entering the stage on a rotating bed.

[00:35:49] I must have fallen asleep all in her little dress.

[00:35:53] And she has a great Russian accent through the entire episode too.

[00:35:56] I thought it was overdone, but it actually works pretty well.

[00:35:59] Well, that's the point.

[00:36:00] I think I know I actually loves the fact that it's, it's over the top and bad in her mind.

[00:36:06] Yeah.

[00:36:06] Um, uh, I'm going to say something that that's going to amount to heresy.

[00:36:10] Right here, right now.

[00:36:12] And you know where I'm going with this.

[00:36:14] Um, it is no worse than Chekhov's.

[00:36:17] Oh, absolutely.

[00:36:18] Yeah.

[00:36:19] Yeah.

[00:36:20] I wonder if Russian accent is horrible.

[00:36:23] Yep.

[00:36:24] Come on enough.

[00:36:25] Anastasia.

[00:36:26] Come on enough.

[00:36:27] There we go.

[00:36:28] Come on enough.

[00:36:29] There we go.

[00:36:31] Come on enough.

[00:36:32] But very nice.

[00:36:35] Very nice.

[00:36:35] You're keeping me laughing tonight.

[00:36:37] Um, everybody does greatness in this episode.

[00:36:41] Oh, Brian as Falcon is awesome.

[00:36:44] The thing that I like about O'Brien in this episode is the Falcon engraving on the eye patch.

[00:36:51] I just thought that was a really nice touch.

[00:36:53] And if memory serves, our, uh, our good friend and patronical fad cosplayed as Falcon at a convention one year.

[00:37:02] I forget which convention it was.

[00:37:04] Yeah.

[00:37:04] Um, but, uh, uh, that, that was a great, uh, that's a nice deep cut cosplay when, uh, when you get something like that showing up.

[00:37:11] You know, I, I find for this, the plot to sort of be, you know, the, the whole, uh, secret agent thing to be a little secondary.

[00:37:18] Um, because really what's at stake here is the crew has to somehow get out of the holodeck and back to themselves.

[00:37:26] Their, their energy patterns have just been stored there to keep them alive until they can figure out how to rematerialize them for want of a better word.

[00:37:34] The, the, the plot of the movie, if you will, I'm just going to call it that for shorthand is just as over the top and, and un quasi believable as it is for every other bond movie.

[00:37:50] Um, moonraker looking at you.

[00:37:53] I was going to say, especially the older Sean Connery ones, when you didn't have the technology that came about later on in movies, like you just had buttons and switches.

[00:38:03] Like when, um, Noah, like just flicks that little switch to, to shoot the laser and there's lasers all over the world, which make the entire ocean rise.

[00:38:13] And just one little piece of land Mount Everest is left to start populating the species again.

[00:38:19] Just awesome.

[00:38:20] Little switch.

[00:38:22] You know, they start populating the species again.

[00:38:24] Uh, it's going to be a while before they got a lot of land.

[00:38:28] Yeah.

[00:38:28] It's going to be pretty crowded there.

[00:38:29] Just throwing that out there.

[00:38:30] 5,000 feet.

[00:38:31] Yeah.

[00:38:31] Yeah.

[00:38:32] And cold.

[00:38:32] I don't think he, I don't think they thought this through.

[00:38:35] Um, well, most supervillains don't.

[00:38:38] I think that's really the thing, you know, and you know, it's, um, I think that the thing I like about Bashir is the secret agent.

[00:38:48] Just at one point he's like, eh, whatever.

[00:38:54] It's like what, like pretty much when I'm listening to you in a meeting.

[00:38:56] Wow.

[00:38:57] Hmm.

[00:38:58] Wow.

[00:38:59] Whatever.

[00:39:00] No.

[00:39:01] No.

[00:39:01] Okay.

[00:39:01] Anyway.

[00:39:02] Uh, yes, Robert, I knew that.

[00:39:06] Um, yeah, Dan did not.

[00:39:09] I did know that.

[00:39:10] Of course I did.

[00:39:11] I said, I like the Roger Moore ones.

[00:39:12] Of course.

[00:39:13] You brought up Sean Connery.

[00:39:15] Well, I did bring it because I not, and I'm not a big Sean Connery, James Bond guy, probably because of the technology in those days in the sixties.

[00:39:22] It's just not as.

[00:39:23] Wait a second.

[00:39:24] You love the original series and you're on board with that, but you can't get past the technology and the Connery Bond movies.

[00:39:31] Uh, apples and oranges, Sheldon.

[00:39:36] A little big bank theory quote there.

[00:39:38] Yeah.

[00:39:39] I know.

[00:39:39] I just, I don't know if it's, I don't know if it's just cause I never got into Bond played by Connery, which is heresy.

[00:39:47] Cause some people, a lot of people say that he's the ultimate Bond.

[00:39:51] It just, he just never clicked with me.

[00:39:53] So I think that's probably why I don't have the respect and admiration for those movies.

[00:39:58] But as you and I have done many times, like move along home as a perfect example.

[00:40:02] I bet if I go back and watch them now, I will have a better appreciation for them.

[00:40:07] You know, it's fascinating to me that the more ones are okay when they've got in one movie, a sub that eats other subs.

[00:40:19] Literally the submarine just swallows up other submarines.

[00:40:22] Um, and that's really kind of okay.

[00:40:26] Mm.

[00:40:26] Oh, wow.

[00:40:27] Blake.

[00:40:28] Really buddy.

[00:40:29] I'm not digging a hole, man.

[00:40:30] I'm serious.

[00:40:31] Oh no, you are.

[00:40:31] I don't know.

[00:40:32] Okay.

[00:40:32] Let me ask you this though.

[00:40:33] With Roger Moore, since we're on the Bond thing right now, I think his first movie was his best one.

[00:40:37] I think they went, I will say, even though I'm a fan of his, they went downhill after that.

[00:40:41] Live and Let Die is phenomenal.

[00:40:42] I think it's, it's a fantastic, um, uh, first movie for Roger Moore.

[00:40:47] That's because he's the only one he didn't play tongue in cheek slightly.

[00:40:52] You know, Roger Moore broke the fourth wall all the time.

[00:40:55] And sometimes where it wasn't called for because he's like, I'm Roger Moore, you know?

[00:41:01] And it's just, it's like, dude.

[00:41:02] And then he just, I hate saying this.

[00:41:05] He just stayed too long.

[00:41:07] Yeah.

[00:41:08] By the time he was 65 and still playing Bond is like, dude, you are not believable.

[00:41:13] Yeah.

[00:41:13] I, I, I totally 100% agree with you there.

[00:41:17] Yep.

[00:41:17] I'll give you that.

[00:41:18] Give me that.

[00:41:19] So back to star Trek, deep space nine.

[00:41:22] Um, the other thing I love here is the fact that Worf plays the henchman perfectly.

[00:41:31] The one thing I wasn't prepared for though, is seeing more puff on a cigar.

[00:41:39] In this holodeck reality, because I mean, it's star Trek.

[00:41:42] We're past that, but we're in a holodeck simulation.

[00:41:46] So that to me took me a second to wrap my head around, but you know, Michael Dorn just plays

[00:41:51] the henchman who happens to be Klingon just fantastically do shop or whatever.

[00:41:56] I love how that was.

[00:41:57] I, I, yeah, I always call it, I'll call them to champs just cause I can't pronounce names.

[00:42:01] Um, but, um, I do like how that was a direct correlation to a bond movie.

[00:42:07] If it was a thunder ball, when, uh, um, the villain takes a cigar or a cigarette and puffs

[00:42:13] it and knocks them out with the gas.

[00:42:15] And I do like how the, the cigar on this one had a red little like cigar ring.

[00:42:20] So that Worf would know that's, or I'm sorry, two champs would know that it's the red, uh,

[00:42:24] the one to knock them out with.

[00:42:25] Do champs.

[00:42:26] Do champs.

[00:42:28] Do you know who does, do you know who sings the theme to thunder ball?

[00:42:34] Off the top of my head?

[00:42:35] No, I'm Jones.

[00:42:37] Really?

[00:42:38] Yep.

[00:42:40] Who my wife and I watched two hours of him singing on the voice as a, as a judge and just having

[00:42:48] an absolute, I just absolutely love that two hours watching him do songs.

[00:42:52] That's cool.

[00:42:52] Very cool.

[00:42:53] I can't do it.

[00:42:55] Cause it'll be on record.

[00:42:56] I've seen Tom Jones in concert twice.

[00:42:58] Oh, nice.

[00:42:59] The first time it was both times in Vegas.

[00:43:00] The first time, you know, he looked, uh, his hair was still Brown.

[00:43:04] I'm sure he was dying it.

[00:43:05] The second time he looked like a pervy grandpa.

[00:43:09] Okay.

[00:43:10] But he's still got the pipes though.

[00:43:12] He's got those pipes.

[00:43:13] He does.

[00:43:14] Yeah.

[00:43:15] Yep.

[00:43:15] It's not unusual.

[00:43:17] Yep.

[00:43:18] Do that by anyone.

[00:43:20] I would love to just start belting it out, but we can't.

[00:43:23] Here's the thing is it's really easy for me to go down a bond rat hole whenever I talk

[00:43:28] about this episode, which we've done.

[00:43:32] Many, many times.

[00:43:35] Um, let's talk about the B plot, which for me really is the A plot and that's the getting

[00:43:40] the crew out of there.

[00:43:41] It doesn't amount to much screen time in the episode, but I think for me, um, it's the most

[00:43:50] interesting part because the rest of it is just it's theater.

[00:43:56] Yeah.

[00:43:57] It's good theater.

[00:43:58] It's enjoyable theater.

[00:43:59] Like I don't watch this episode if I want to like really, you know, just, you know,

[00:44:04] focus in on a, on a moral or a theme of this episode.

[00:44:07] I watch it when I want a distraction.

[00:44:09] I watch it when I want something fun.

[00:44:12] We know they're going to get out of there.

[00:44:14] I mean, that's the, that's sort of the predetermined thing in the episode.

[00:44:18] We know we're not going to lose anybody, but it's just, it's, it's creative and it's

[00:44:25] done in a way that I really like.

[00:44:27] I, I really like it.

[00:44:28] Like we talked about before, you know, holodeck gone wrong episodes have been around since

[00:44:32] TNG.

[00:44:33] Um, I love how they tie what's going on in the holodeck outside of the, of the hollow

[00:44:40] suite, excuse me, the hollow suite, um, with, you know, the plumbing and the spatula because

[00:44:46] it's got good conduit.

[00:44:47] Um, and all of the stuff that Rom is doing, it has to go over to the defiant.

[00:44:51] And it's interesting to know that the, um, neural patterns of these five crew members take up

[00:44:59] more memory than the station has available to it, which you got to think is that station's

[00:45:05] got a lot of memory available to it.

[00:45:07] And for that to be taking up everything.

[00:45:11] Wow.

[00:45:12] My neural pattern would only take up, you know, a little bit less, less.

[00:45:17] It makes me wonder, you know, if the memory is maxed out with the patterns of the crew,

[00:45:23] what's wrong in life support?

[00:45:27] Maybe that stayed on and they didn't say anything.

[00:45:30] The lights went out though.

[00:45:31] Cause you know that, you know, that shit's going wrong when the lights go out and the

[00:45:34] lights go out and the, and the, and the, the displays are all blinkity, blinkity typey,

[00:45:40] typey.

[00:45:42] You know, it's amazing that we've been around for 10 years when you start using stuff like

[00:45:46] that.

[00:45:48] Um, yeah.

[00:45:50] Um, Catherine brings up a great point.

[00:45:51] This is a great character growth episode for Rom.

[00:45:53] It absolutely is.

[00:45:54] But I'm going to also put out there, it's a great character growth episode for Bashir

[00:45:59] because you get to see him not be a sort of, you know, um, dorky, slightly creepy version

[00:46:07] of himself.

[00:46:08] You get to see him as suave.

[00:46:10] You get to see him as, you know, the, the secret agent who always, you know, gets the girl,

[00:46:15] if you will.

[00:46:16] Um, I hate using that phrase, but it's kind of common of the time.

[00:46:20] Um, and I like that both of these characters really kind of get a book.

[00:46:24] You see both sides of the spectrum with Bashir in this episode, uh, or, or, or the before

[00:46:29] with the dorky, you know, chasing after Dax or before we knew that he was genetically enhanced

[00:46:36] and became a know-it-all.

[00:46:37] Um, so I kind of liked that.

[00:46:39] He's, he's grappling with things, you know, the arguments that he has with Garrick and

[00:46:43] in the hollow suite about what it's like to be a real spy agent because of Garrick's history

[00:46:49] versus what he likes to do in the hollow, uh, in the hollow suite is, is another very interesting

[00:46:54] dynamic to not only his character, but the relationship between Garrick and, uh, Bashir

[00:47:01] so much so that Bashir shoots Garrick in the neck.

[00:47:06] As I've wanted to do to you just many times.

[00:47:09] Um, yeah, I like the fact that Garrick, who actually is a spy is going to this going, are

[00:47:14] you kidding me?

[00:47:15] Yes.

[00:47:16] Is this what, you know, he's got to wonder in some sense how they ever made it into space.

[00:47:26] Well, you, you see it at the beginning, you know, when he's, you know, they're sitting

[00:47:29] there, I don't know if it's in Paris or London and he's looking around and he goes, I picked

[00:47:34] the wrong intelligence intelligence agency.

[00:47:36] I just, but you got to think, was he serious or was he like, I think he just meant that

[00:47:43] everything wasn't gray and metal and everybody looked like a reptile.

[00:47:48] Um, it's this great, you know, mid-century modern, you know, decor with, you know, women

[00:47:55] showing up haphazardly on spinning beds, spinning beds with knives in their backs.

[00:48:00] I mean, that was kind of brutal for 1995 too, for a TV show.

[00:48:04] I would think she's just sitting there with the nice little press outfit for Bashir, the

[00:48:09] tuxedo falls knife right in her back.

[00:48:11] Ouch.

[00:48:12] And that was a nice suit that she had on as well too.

[00:48:14] I was talking about the wardrobe earlier.

[00:48:15] So anyway, yeah, no, I, I assumed so much.

[00:48:18] Um, yeah.

[00:48:19] In 95, I got to think we've seen worse things on television.

[00:48:21] Like say in 1988 with commander Remick getting just, you know, blown to bits kind of with

[00:48:29] a phaser exploding all over the place.

[00:48:32] Yeah, um, exactly.

[00:48:33] We, I think we've seen worse.

[00:48:35] I think this fit the aesthetic of the sixties.

[00:48:37] True.

[00:48:38] Um, yeah.

[00:48:39] And you know, as, as, as Jason brings up, um, this episode is kind of like right between

[00:48:43] sort of K less and home front.

[00:48:45] So it's a nice downshift in between those two before stuff gets serious again.

[00:48:50] Yeah.

[00:48:51] Which is one of the things I really like.

[00:48:53] Jason is on topic tonight.

[00:48:55] Wow.

[00:48:56] Hey, dude needs a podcast.

[00:48:58] All right.

[00:48:59] Maybe he could have your job.

[00:49:02] Does anybody want it though?

[00:49:05] I know.

[00:49:06] Working with you.

[00:49:08] Is working with you.

[00:49:10] You don't have me.

[00:49:11] I got to throw him right back at you, but I could never do it to the level.

[00:49:15] Of, of perfection that you do it.

[00:49:17] My friend.

[00:49:18] Oh no.

[00:49:19] They're for me.

[00:49:21] Nice.

[00:49:22] That was one of my favorite moments in TMP.

[00:49:24] Helen.

[00:49:24] It really is.

[00:49:25] Um, just that when ran just gets super serious and turns around like, you know,

[00:49:32] there's nothing good.

[00:49:33] Yeah.

[00:49:34] Not your fault.

[00:49:36] Uh, Robert wants to know where he sends his audition tape.

[00:49:39] Um, you have to send it and $5 to box nine, nine, nine, Hollywood,

[00:49:43] California.

[00:49:44] Um, right after you go shopping.

[00:49:48] Sixies reference.

[00:49:49] Yeah.

[00:49:49] Yeah.

[00:49:50] I was thinking more like a wheel of fortune.

[00:49:52] Um,

[00:49:53] after you go shopping and van Cleef and our pal,

[00:49:55] you can,

[00:49:55] um,

[00:49:56] send in his,

[00:49:56] his demo tape to a Hollywood post office box.

[00:50:00] Wow.

[00:50:00] Um,

[00:50:02] out of all of the.

[00:50:04] Holodeck gone wrong episodes.

[00:50:06] And we're just going to say Holodeck because I know it's a hollow suite,

[00:50:08] but we're going to say it's shorthand or holographic room.

[00:50:13] Um,

[00:50:14] where does this fall for you?

[00:50:15] I know you're a big fan of,

[00:50:17] um,

[00:50:18] a fistful of datas.

[00:50:20] Yeah.

[00:50:21] and others,

[00:50:21] where's this one kind of fall in the Holodeck pantheon of episodes?

[00:50:25] Oh,

[00:50:26] that's a good question.

[00:50:27] It's,

[00:50:27] it's right up there.

[00:50:28] I don't know what I would rate it.

[00:50:30] I'd have to go back and review all of the different Holodeck episodes that

[00:50:34] there are.

[00:50:35] I'm pulling them up right now just to get a,

[00:50:36] a quick idea.

[00:50:38] Um,

[00:50:38] I would say,

[00:50:41] Oh gosh,

[00:50:41] I'm looking at one.

[00:50:42] His way is one elementary deer data fistful of datas.

[00:50:46] Take me out to the hollow suite.

[00:50:47] That's probably my favorite.

[00:50:49] I just absolutely love that one.

[00:50:51] Um,

[00:50:52] I would,

[00:50:52] I might put this one two or three,

[00:50:55] uh,

[00:50:56] maybe.

[00:50:56] Okay.

[00:50:57] Chipping a bottle.

[00:50:57] Oh,

[00:50:57] no.

[00:50:58] Well,

[00:50:58] you know what?

[00:50:59] Bride of chaotic is in there too.

[00:51:01] Top five.

[00:51:02] I'll go top five because there are some great Holodeck episodes.

[00:51:06] Um,

[00:51:06] so five.

[00:51:07] So there's the potential that there's a,

[00:51:09] potential you could rate bride of chaotic higher than this.

[00:51:13] No,

[00:51:14] I'd say that that's in the top five too.

[00:51:15] I just don't know where I put it.

[00:51:16] Yeah.

[00:51:17] I love brought a chaotic.

[00:51:18] That's another one that does a fantastic job of,

[00:51:23] of acting like the genre that they are trying to portray very,

[00:51:28] very well with those ridiculous B science movies,

[00:51:31] uh,

[00:51:32] of the day.

[00:51:33] Um,

[00:51:33] so yeah,

[00:51:34] I think that's a good one also,

[00:51:35] but yeah,

[00:51:36] bada bing,

[00:51:36] bada bang and fistful of data is this one.

[00:51:39] And brad,

[00:51:39] those are all fantastic ones.

[00:51:40] So I put them right up there.

[00:51:41] I'm not a big goodbye fan.

[00:51:43] I'm not,

[00:51:44] um,

[00:51:45] Oh,

[00:51:46] you know what?

[00:51:47] Um,

[00:51:48] would you,

[00:51:49] I don't think I would put,

[00:51:51] I'm trying to think of,

[00:51:52] uh,

[00:51:53] no,

[00:51:53] I don't know if I'd want to put it.

[00:51:54] It's only paper moon in there.

[00:51:56] Why not?

[00:51:57] I don't know.

[00:51:58] I don't know.

[00:52:00] Oh,

[00:52:00] I don't know.

[00:52:01] Killing games.

[00:52:01] Another good one.

[00:52:02] Oh my gosh.

[00:52:03] There's so many.

[00:52:03] And now that I'm thinking about it,

[00:52:05] there's just so many.

[00:52:06] Oh goodness gracious.

[00:52:08] Dear viewers.

[00:52:09] I have now done what is called sending Dan Davidson down the rabbit hole.

[00:52:12] I am.

[00:52:13] I don't,

[00:52:13] Dan is going to be thinking about this for days using his limited brain power to compute where,

[00:52:18] and he's going to come back to this and me a whole bunch of times.

[00:52:21] Like I'm going to get,

[00:52:22] you know,

[00:52:23] a Facebook message on my phone saying,

[00:52:25] Oh my God,

[00:52:25] I forgot about blank episode.

[00:52:27] Yes.

[00:52:28] It's only paper moon.

[00:52:29] I can see why people would say it,

[00:52:31] but to,

[00:52:32] to me,

[00:52:34] the intensity of that episode and the seriousness of what's going on with nog.

[00:52:42] I look at the holodeck adventures,

[00:52:44] whether they're holodeck gone wrong or not as fun episodes.

[00:52:48] That's not a fun episode.

[00:52:49] That's a serious episode.

[00:52:51] So that's why I'm thinking I'm not,

[00:52:52] I don't know if I'd put it in that list for me.

[00:52:55] Oh,

[00:52:56] okay.

[00:52:56] You want an explanation,

[00:52:58] Mr.

[00:52:59] Well,

[00:52:59] I didn't know.

[00:52:59] Clearly I didn't get a good one.

[00:53:01] Almost lost my hat.

[00:53:04] All right.

[00:53:05] So it was 70 degrees here in North Carolina today,

[00:53:07] which is we're going to wear our Christmas sweaters.

[00:53:09] Like we did with the sci-fi sisters a few weeks ago.

[00:53:13] It's warm up here.

[00:53:14] I was going to be sweating to death.

[00:53:15] I don't know what it was where you are,

[00:53:17] but wearing that hat I know is not.

[00:53:19] I'm very,

[00:53:19] I'm very comfortable.

[00:53:21] It was,

[00:53:21] it was almost 60 here today.

[00:53:22] It was very warm for December 17th in New Hampshire.

[00:53:26] It's 40 out right now.

[00:53:27] It's very comfortable.

[00:53:28] We're in my office.

[00:53:29] And I shaved my head before coming upstairs.

[00:53:32] So I had a haircut.

[00:53:33] So it's,

[00:53:34] it's,

[00:53:34] I'm fine.

[00:53:36] I don't want to take it off.

[00:53:37] Cause then the light's going to,

[00:53:38] you know,

[00:53:39] Abrams lens flare.

[00:53:41] Yeah.

[00:53:44] So as you were,

[00:53:46] as you watch,

[00:53:47] you know,

[00:53:47] our man,

[00:53:48] Bashir,

[00:53:49] does this make you want to rewatch any bond films or,

[00:53:53] or spy things?

[00:53:55] Or does it not evoke that in you?

[00:53:57] No,

[00:53:58] it absolutely does evoke it.

[00:53:59] Even though,

[00:54:00] like we talked about before,

[00:54:01] I may not be a huge fan of the Connery movies,

[00:54:04] but if anything,

[00:54:05] this will want me to go back and watch them.

[00:54:08] Cause honestly,

[00:54:09] I haven't watched them in so,

[00:54:10] so long.

[00:54:11] So yeah,

[00:54:12] this does what a lot of good episodes of star Trek do.

[00:54:16] It makes you go back to want to watch other things that are related to it.

[00:54:18] So I would say,

[00:54:19] yes,

[00:54:19] it would.

[00:54:21] How about you?

[00:54:22] It does.

[00:54:23] It also makes me want to watch things like the man from uncle,

[00:54:25] you know,

[00:54:26] the TV series with,

[00:54:27] uh,

[00:54:27] Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.

[00:54:30] Um,

[00:54:31] it makes me want to watch,

[00:54:33] um,

[00:54:33] our man Flint again.

[00:54:34] It makes me want to watch Matt Helm with Dean Martin.

[00:54:37] Um,

[00:54:37] how can you go wrong with Dean Martin?

[00:54:39] Yeah,

[00:54:39] that's true.

[00:54:40] Already.

[00:54:41] Those movies are flawed because Dean Martin is trying to play a secret agent.

[00:54:45] Um,

[00:54:46] you hear the martini shaker before you ever,

[00:54:48] ever hear Matt Helm coming in a room.

[00:54:51] That's what I'm going to say.

[00:54:52] Yeah.

[00:54:54] it,

[00:54:54] you know,

[00:54:55] I,

[00:54:55] I love all of those.

[00:54:56] I love that genre of films.

[00:54:58] Um,

[00:54:59] I,

[00:55:00] I wish that there had kind of been one hour man Bashir episode a season

[00:55:09] instead of,

[00:55:09] I know this is going to be unpopular with you instead of like a mirror

[00:55:13] universe episode.

[00:55:14] Oh no,

[00:55:15] nope.

[00:55:16] Totally cool with that,

[00:55:16] man.

[00:55:17] Um,

[00:55:17] I thought it'd be great.

[00:55:18] And he talked about at the end when they're walking off the hollow suite,

[00:55:22] I think we can look forward to more adventures of Julian Bashir secret agent.

[00:55:27] And I think we get one more,

[00:55:29] but it's not a full episode.

[00:55:31] It's just like,

[00:55:31] I think it's a little passing that he's in the hall.

[00:55:34] If I remember correctly.

[00:55:35] Um,

[00:55:35] but no,

[00:55:36] I think,

[00:55:36] I think you're absolutely right.

[00:55:37] I think that would have been great.

[00:55:38] I mean,

[00:55:38] I'll,

[00:55:38] I won't say no to mirror universe,

[00:55:40] um,

[00:55:41] during the deep space nine and,

[00:55:42] uh,

[00:55:43] TNG times and,

[00:55:44] and,

[00:55:44] and,

[00:55:45] and the legacy.

[00:55:45] Um,

[00:55:47] but,

[00:55:47] uh,

[00:55:47] Oh,

[00:55:48] I definitely would be very much up for,

[00:55:49] uh,

[00:55:50] if they had done more,

[00:55:51] uh,

[00:55:51] secret agent Bashir episodes,

[00:55:53] you should say no to the last mirror universe episode in deep space nine.

[00:55:59] Oh yeah,

[00:55:59] that's dreadful.

[00:56:00] It is dreadful.

[00:56:01] And,

[00:56:02] and I will say this,

[00:56:02] and this is going to shock you and it's probably going to shock a lot of people.

[00:56:06] My love for the mirror universe has waned.

[00:56:10] Um,

[00:56:11] because I think that they have over saturated it with some of the stuff that they've done.

[00:56:18] Um,

[00:56:19] um,

[00:56:19] some of the stuff that they've done,

[00:56:20] I've loved some of the stuff that they've done.

[00:56:22] I have not loved,

[00:56:23] but I think,

[00:56:24] I think they went into the well a little bit too much.

[00:56:26] Um,

[00:56:27] especially,

[00:56:27] uh,

[00:56:28] in the,

[00:56:28] the newer series.

[00:56:30] Um,

[00:56:32] I like what they've did in lower decks.

[00:56:33] Uh,

[00:56:34] I'm talking about discovery.

[00:56:35] I'll say it out loud.

[00:56:36] Um,

[00:56:36] I think that that's saturated that.

[00:56:38] Um,

[00:56:39] but,

[00:56:39] um,

[00:56:40] yeah,

[00:56:40] the old style stuff,

[00:56:41] but yeah,

[00:56:41] you're right.

[00:56:42] That last mirror universe episode on DS nine,

[00:56:44] which is freaking awful.

[00:56:48] Was it the emperor's new cloak?

[00:56:50] Is that,

[00:56:51] that's the one,

[00:56:51] right?

[00:56:51] Yeah.

[00:56:52] That's the one.

[00:56:53] Ooh.

[00:56:54] Yep.

[00:56:55] Interesting fact.

[00:56:56] Uh,

[00:56:56] Mr.

[00:56:56] Jim McMahon,

[00:56:58] Dean Martin never drank.

[00:57:00] I think that that's something that,

[00:57:02] uh,

[00:57:02] we have read several places that he never really had alcohol.

[00:57:06] Like when he's doing all those comedy roasts and stuff like that,

[00:57:09] he never really had alcohol in his glass.

[00:57:10] It was all a stick.

[00:57:13] Like I'm,

[00:57:14] I'm sure he was shit faced before he went out there though.

[00:57:16] I'm just saying what's in the drink wasn't alcohol.

[00:57:19] I don't care what it did beforehand.

[00:57:20] You mean on stage,

[00:57:21] right?

[00:57:22] Yeah,

[00:57:24] absolutely.

[00:57:25] Yeah.

[00:57:25] I'm going to agree with Tamiya here.

[00:57:27] Um,

[00:57:28] I like the disco mirror universe stuff.

[00:57:30] Um,

[00:57:31] I don't like most of the deep space nine stuff,

[00:57:33] um,

[00:57:33] which I know is heresy to you on some level.

[00:57:36] Not heresy.

[00:57:37] No,

[00:57:37] no,

[00:57:37] I really appreciated the way it sort of,

[00:57:40] you know,

[00:57:40] set the table for part of discovery.

[00:57:43] Now,

[00:57:43] if you can imagine Brian Fuller wanted 10 episodes of the 13 in the mirror universe,

[00:57:49] originally,

[00:57:49] that would have been a little over the top.

[00:57:51] The beginning of the mirror universe on discovery,

[00:57:54] I thought was just awesome.

[00:57:55] Cause it was not expected except when it all got leaked and then everybody expected it.

[00:57:59] But I think that after,

[00:58:02] after the initial few episodes of it,

[00:58:05] when it started getting a little bit,

[00:58:06] you know,

[00:58:07] a little bit more,

[00:58:08] we talked about down the rabbit hole several times today.

[00:58:11] Um,

[00:58:12] so,

[00:58:12] but yeah,

[00:58:13] but you know,

[00:58:14] mirror universe,

[00:58:14] go mirror universe.

[00:58:17] Yeah.

[00:58:18] Right.

[00:58:19] How about mirror universe?

[00:58:21] Our man,

[00:58:21] Bashir.

[00:58:22] Oh my God.

[00:58:23] What is wrong with you?

[00:58:26] Who hurt you?

[00:58:28] A mirror universe Bashir secret agent episode.

[00:58:33] Show me on the doll where Star Trek hurt you.

[00:58:36] Um,

[00:58:38] Oh,

[00:58:39] you're killing me.

[00:58:43] Anyway,

[00:58:44] David,

[00:58:45] I'm assuming you mean the comic books perhaps.

[00:58:48] Oh,

[00:58:48] um,

[00:58:51] just going to throw that out there.

[00:58:53] Cause there are a great series of,

[00:58:54] of comic books with some of the art by JK Woodward.

[00:58:57] Uh,

[00:58:58] uh,

[00:58:59] of,

[00:58:59] of New Hampshire these days.

[00:59:01] Yeah.

[00:59:02] And some,

[00:59:03] some great mirror universe novels as well.

[00:59:05] I will say.

[00:59:06] Absolutely.

[00:59:07] Yeah.

[00:59:07] My favorite,

[00:59:08] my favorite book of all time is a mirror universe book.

[00:59:10] How the F did we get on the mirror universe?

[00:59:12] I don't know.

[00:59:13] You asked me something about mirror universe and agent Bashir.

[00:59:16] That's what it was your fault.

[00:59:17] Actually,

[00:59:17] you asked me if I would rather,

[00:59:19] have seen more agent Bashir or mirror universe.

[00:59:23] No,

[00:59:24] I didn't.

[00:59:24] I said,

[00:59:25] I would rather see more agent Bashir.

[00:59:27] I won't blame you.

[00:59:28] Um,

[00:59:30] yeah,

[00:59:30] essentially.

[00:59:31] I think,

[00:59:31] yeah,

[00:59:31] Jim,

[00:59:32] um,

[00:59:33] you know,

[00:59:33] our man Bashir would essentially be a Dr.

[00:59:36] Evil.

[00:59:37] Dr.

[00:59:38] Evil.

[00:59:39] Evil.

[00:59:39] Um,

[00:59:41] yeah.

[00:59:41] What is happening?

[00:59:43] Your face is what's happening.

[00:59:46] Um,

[00:59:47] if I look at,

[00:59:48] you know,

[00:59:49] season four,

[00:59:49] this happens early in season four,

[00:59:51] this episode.

[00:59:52] And so obviously it's the season where Worf comes on board.

[00:59:56] So,

[00:59:56] I mean,

[00:59:57] Michael Dorn clearly has a lot of time and makeup is Worf,

[01:00:00] but he doesn't have a lot of time on deep space nine to sort of jump into doing something different,

[01:00:03] which is one of the things that I like that they take that chance.

[01:00:07] Yeah.

[01:00:08] But already the episodes before this,

[01:00:10] we talked about where it was sandwiched,

[01:00:12] but before this,

[01:00:13] we've already seen the way of the warrior,

[01:00:14] the visitor,

[01:00:15] Hippocratic oath,

[01:00:16] indiscretion,

[01:00:16] rejoined starship down,

[01:00:18] little green men,

[01:00:20] and sort of K less season four,

[01:00:22] deep space.

[01:00:23] Nine Dan starts off with a bang.

[01:00:25] It's,

[01:00:26] it's awesome.

[01:00:27] Season four is awesome.

[01:00:28] All,

[01:00:29] everyone that you just listed off are all awesome episodes.

[01:00:34] I think they're all great,

[01:00:37] but also in season four,

[01:00:38] you get the worst episode of deep space nine ever.

[01:00:41] In my opinion,

[01:00:42] the muse,

[01:00:42] the muse.

[01:00:43] Yep.

[01:00:44] Yeah.

[01:00:45] You're not,

[01:00:45] people can say profit and lace all day long.

[01:00:47] I'm sorry.

[01:00:48] I think the muse is worse.

[01:00:50] Yep.

[01:00:51] Yeah.

[01:00:51] That first half of the season is pretty damn good.

[01:00:53] It's pretty awesome.

[01:00:54] Yeah.

[01:00:55] Good writing,

[01:00:56] good acting.

[01:00:57] Yep.

[01:00:57] I mean,

[01:00:58] you get into the,

[01:00:59] the home front paradise lost thing.

[01:01:00] You get to a bar association,

[01:01:02] which is great rules of engagement,

[01:01:04] which I really love.

[01:01:06] Um,

[01:01:06] hard time.

[01:01:07] I mean,

[01:01:07] how can you not dig that?

[01:01:09] Great episode.

[01:01:10] Shattered mirror.

[01:01:11] Yeah.

[01:01:13] Um,

[01:01:14] I feel bad for Andrew Robinson though,

[01:01:16] in this episode,

[01:01:17] because when we talked to him,

[01:01:19] he talked and he's talked about this and convention and stuff.

[01:01:22] When we had him on the show 10 years ago,

[01:01:25] he talked about how claustrophobic he was in that makeup.

[01:01:28] Yeah.

[01:01:29] and that it was something that he was very uncomfortable with.

[01:01:32] And this episode,

[01:01:34] he was in that makeup more hours than any other episode that he did on deep

[01:01:39] space nine.

[01:01:40] And it,

[01:01:40] it drove him crazy.

[01:01:42] Longest shoot of deep space nine.

[01:01:44] Yeah.

[01:01:45] Yep.

[01:01:46] Interesting.

[01:01:47] I think they,

[01:01:48] they averaged like six days on deep,

[01:01:50] deep space.

[01:01:50] I don't think.

[01:01:51] And this one was eight.

[01:01:52] Yeah.

[01:01:52] And part,

[01:01:53] and one of the things that they did,

[01:01:54] it was also very expensive because in one scene,

[01:01:57] when they're on,

[01:01:58] on Everest,

[01:01:59] um,

[01:02:00] that backdrop out the window,

[01:02:01] they did the whole filming for the whole day that they were doing in that,

[01:02:05] in that,

[01:02:05] on that set.

[01:02:06] And then they realized that none of the mountains had snow on them.

[01:02:09] So they had to go back and redo all of the backdrops.

[01:02:12] And the guy,

[01:02:13] well,

[01:02:14] I forget who said it,

[01:02:14] but it ended up being like a $25,000 mistake because of all the extra pay that

[01:02:19] they had to do for the actors and,

[01:02:21] and the,

[01:02:22] the people behind the camera and all that stuff.

[01:02:24] So yeah.

[01:02:25] Ain't that the way.

[01:02:26] Oops.

[01:02:28] I would just like to point out that Ryan says deep space nine worst is still

[01:02:32] better than TNG's worst.

[01:02:33] Yes.

[01:02:34] And that includes star Trek generations,

[01:02:36] um,

[01:02:37] shots.

[01:02:38] Fyatt.

[01:02:40] My goodness.

[01:02:41] Shots.

[01:02:42] Fyatt.

[01:02:42] Wow.

[01:02:43] Um,

[01:02:44] Bobby,

[01:02:45] I know,

[01:02:46] you know,

[01:02:46] you can tell it's been a while since we've done this.

[01:02:48] Cause we've been all over the map tonight instead of our normal sort of,

[01:02:51] but it's been fun.

[01:02:53] Surgical examination of an episode.

[01:02:55] Yeah.

[01:02:56] Okay.

[01:02:56] Completely tongue in cheek.

[01:02:59] Wow.

[01:03:00] Oh my goodness gracious.

[01:03:02] But it's been fun,

[01:03:02] right?

[01:03:03] Uh,

[01:03:03] I've had a good time.

[01:03:04] I hope everybody else has had a good time.

[01:03:07] Um,

[01:03:08] uh,

[01:03:11] Oh,

[01:03:12] anyway,

[01:03:12] see,

[01:03:13] we're getting,

[01:03:13] we're getting muse comments now.

[01:03:14] And,

[01:03:14] and you know,

[01:03:15] what's amazing is Meg Foster.

[01:03:18] Yeah.

[01:03:18] The muse wasn't great.

[01:03:19] Meg Foster.

[01:03:19] And I was watching the movie.

[01:03:22] Um,

[01:03:22] Oh my God,

[01:03:22] I'm having a mind.

[01:03:23] Like they live.

[01:03:25] And I realized that it was,

[01:03:28] her was the same actress that was in that deep space.

[01:03:31] And I,

[01:03:31] because of those eyes of hers,

[01:03:33] it's like,

[01:03:34] that's Meg Foster shoes in that episode that bill hates.

[01:03:36] That storyline is terrible.

[01:03:39] Um,

[01:03:39] it's interesting.

[01:03:40] It's season four.

[01:03:41] It has,

[01:03:41] in my opinion,

[01:03:42] both Star Trek's best and worst episodes.

[01:03:44] I mean,

[01:03:45] deep space nights,

[01:03:46] best and worst up visitor.

[01:03:47] Yep.

[01:03:47] Visitor and the muse.

[01:03:48] And the muse,

[01:03:49] both of which directed by David Livingston.

[01:03:51] Interestingly enough,

[01:03:53] directed like a zillion episodes.

[01:03:54] So the muse also the last time we see law Xana,

[01:03:57] Troy and Star Trek.

[01:03:58] Correct.

[01:03:59] Yep.

[01:03:59] Which is unfortunate.

[01:04:00] It is.

[01:04:01] Yep.

[01:04:02] So Dan,

[01:04:03] final thoughts on the muse,

[01:04:07] the muse,

[01:04:08] the muse sucks.

[01:04:09] Um,

[01:04:09] we're talking,

[01:04:10] let me back up.

[01:04:11] We're talking the muse.

[01:04:13] You can,

[01:04:13] what is my,

[01:04:15] see,

[01:04:15] I working happens to the best of us.

[01:04:17] And then it happens to you.

[01:04:20] Um,

[01:04:21] working with you has just made me dumber.

[01:04:23] Um,

[01:04:24] I think that's what it is.

[01:04:25] Uh,

[01:04:26] fun fact,

[01:04:26] Meg Foster,

[01:04:27] also the original,

[01:04:28] um,

[01:04:29] co-star of Cagney and Lacey,

[01:04:31] the original TV movie before she was replaced by,

[01:04:33] uh,

[01:04:34] Sharon glass.

[01:04:35] Um,

[01:04:35] final thoughts on our man,

[01:04:37] Bashir.

[01:04:38] Our man Bashir is a fantastic episode of deep space nine.

[01:04:41] It's a great adventure.

[01:04:43] It's a fun holodeck episode.

[01:04:45] Um,

[01:04:46] the acting is great.

[01:04:47] The overacting is great.

[01:04:48] I'm talking to you,

[01:04:49] Avery Brooks,

[01:04:49] because it's so perfect.

[01:04:52] Um,

[01:04:52] it's a lot of fun.

[01:04:53] It's that callback to the,

[01:04:55] um,

[01:04:56] old spy movies that we love to talk about.

[01:04:58] Cause we're such big bond fans,

[01:05:00] big,

[01:05:00] big thumbs up,

[01:05:01] big,

[01:05:02] big,

[01:05:03] fun,

[01:05:04] happy adventure.

[01:05:04] I love it.

[01:05:06] If you've got 44 minutes and you need a distraction and you don't want to get mire yourself in the dominion war,

[01:05:13] and you don't want to really serious,

[01:05:15] you know,

[01:05:16] examination of problems going on on earth today,

[01:05:19] which star Trek is always want to do.

[01:05:21] This is a great way to distract yourself and have a little fun in the process.

[01:05:27] And you get to see the spy get saved just by talking some lovey doveyness to the heroine.

[01:05:36] And then she takes her glasses off,

[01:05:38] lets her hair down,

[01:05:39] kisses him and sets him free.

[01:05:41] What could more could you ask for in a television episode?

[01:05:43] Honey bear,

[01:05:45] honey bear.

[01:05:47] Yeah.

[01:05:48] Yeah.

[01:05:49] Honey bear.

[01:05:49] Um,

[01:05:50] yeah.

[01:05:51] Anyway,

[01:05:52] thanks for that succinct commentary,

[01:05:54] Dan.

[01:05:55] Again,

[01:05:55] I point out that Robert says that's why Bill and Dan are professionals.

[01:05:58] That's please don't try this at home.

[01:06:00] Um,

[01:06:00] we're not insured for that.

[01:06:02] Um,

[01:06:03] I don't know.

[01:06:03] Dan,

[01:06:04] I don't know because he makes,

[01:06:05] um,

[01:06:05] he makes the big bucks.

[01:06:09] Right.

[01:06:09] Sugar bear.

[01:06:11] Sugar bear.

[01:06:11] Wow.

[01:06:12] There you go.

[01:06:12] I like that.

[01:06:13] I don't call him that anymore.

[01:06:14] No,

[01:06:14] they don't.

[01:06:15] Not at all.

[01:06:17] Sugar daddy.

[01:06:18] No.

[01:06:19] Um,

[01:06:20] and yeah,

[01:06:21] Jim,

[01:06:21] Julian does finally get to kiss Jadzia.

[01:06:24] That's true.

[01:06:24] Um,

[01:06:25] yep.

[01:06:26] Again though,

[01:06:26] doesn't he do it in,

[01:06:27] uh,

[01:06:29] in,

[01:06:29] um,

[01:06:31] if wishes were horses,

[01:06:33] I don't remember.

[01:06:36] Wow.

[01:06:37] Ryan is a funny guy.

[01:06:40] Hey,

[01:06:41] at least he remembered,

[01:06:42] right?

[01:06:42] That's great.

[01:06:43] Thanks pal.

[01:06:43] I didn't go to the Connecticut school of broadcasting.

[01:06:46] And it's,

[01:06:46] no,

[01:06:46] you did not.

[01:06:47] It's a good thing.

[01:06:49] Dan,

[01:06:50] that's going to do it for our man.

[01:06:52] Bashir,

[01:06:53] get out there and watch some James Bond.

[01:06:55] Y'all.

[01:06:55] Um,

[01:06:57] I actually,

[01:06:57] I would start with casino Royale,

[01:06:59] quite frankly.

[01:06:59] Um,

[01:07:00] which one,

[01:07:00] the first Daniel Craig movie,

[01:07:01] the first,

[01:07:02] the first one with David Niven really isn't an official bond movie.

[01:07:05] Right.

[01:07:05] Um,

[01:07:06] it's,

[01:07:07] uh,

[01:07:07] it's not really a parody,

[01:07:08] but it also wasn't one of the broccoli movies.

[01:07:11] So,

[01:07:11] um,

[01:07:12] that cubby broccoli produced.

[01:07:14] So,

[01:07:15] um,

[01:07:15] right.

[01:07:15] You know,

[01:07:16] or ask John champion,

[01:07:17] his favorite.

[01:07:18] I'm sure you will get an earful.

[01:07:19] Um,

[01:07:20] he dresses like bond still.

[01:07:22] Well,

[01:07:23] I mean,

[01:07:23] he is suave.

[01:07:25] Let's just say you can't,

[01:07:26] you can't not dress like that when you're that debonair.

[01:07:28] So I know anyway,

[01:07:31] anyway,

[01:07:31] Dan,

[01:07:32] you know who else is debonair?

[01:07:33] Oh,

[01:07:34] I think I know.

[01:07:35] I think,

[01:07:35] you know where this is going.

[01:07:36] I do.

[01:07:37] Our friends,

[01:07:39] the band five year mission.

[01:07:40] Five year mission.

[01:07:42] You know,

[01:07:43] we are so grateful for all the music they let us use on the audio version of the show.

[01:07:47] We couldn't have done it without them for 10 straight years.

[01:07:49] And we're grateful to every note they have ever produced.

[01:07:53] So go on to five year mission.

[01:07:54] Dot net,

[01:07:55] get those CDs in your grubby little fingers.

[01:07:58] So you can pop them in your CD player,

[01:08:00] rip them to your computer or your,

[01:08:02] your diamond MP3 player or whatever the heck it is,

[01:08:06] you know,

[01:08:07] and,

[01:08:07] and get those songs in your ear holes,

[01:08:09] because I guarantee you're going to become huge fans of the band songs that are not parody.

[01:08:14] They are new ways to look at these original series episodes that we've loved for so,

[01:08:18] so long.

[01:08:19] So five year mission.

[01:08:20] Dot net,

[01:08:21] go get those discs.

[01:08:22] Yeah.

[01:08:23] And they're working on a new album right now.

[01:08:25] They are house actually posted on social media,

[01:08:28] on Facebook the other day that,

[01:08:29] uh,

[01:08:29] they might have a,

[01:08:30] uh,

[01:08:30] an upcoming,

[01:08:31] uh,

[01:08:32] podcast over at five year mission.

[01:08:33] So that's kind of cool,

[01:08:35] but,

[01:08:35] uh,

[01:08:36] yeah,

[01:08:36] we'll find out,

[01:08:37] but you know,

[01:08:38] we talked about it today,

[01:08:39] dude.

[01:08:39] I mean,

[01:08:39] it's just such a great episode.

[01:08:41] Julian Bashir,

[01:08:42] secret agent,

[01:08:43] just absolutely one of the best.

[01:08:45] He faces danger at every turn.

[01:08:47] He woos the most beautiful woman on the planet.

[01:08:50] He's suave.

[01:08:51] He's debonair.

[01:08:52] Even when things look,

[01:08:53] they're bleakest,

[01:08:54] he fights evil because he knows it's the right thing to do.

[01:08:57] Oh,

[01:08:58] but I gotta tell you,

[01:08:59] I gotta tell you,

[01:08:59] buddy,

[01:09:00] no one is more evil than the man who had this.

[01:09:03] Very interesting philosophy.

[01:09:06] But there comes a time when a house has become so damaged by termites that you must not only kill the termites,

[01:09:14] but the boats,

[01:09:15] the house,

[01:09:17] his name,

[01:09:18] you know it,

[01:09:18] it's coming.

[01:09:20] You,

[01:09:20] you know,

[01:09:20] it's coming.

[01:09:21] It's been a while.

[01:09:23] If Farcrates,

[01:09:25] Noah,

[01:09:27] Noah,

[01:09:29] I would like to commend you for putting more effort into that.

[01:09:32] Farc ism really than you have all year.

[01:09:36] I love everybody was like,

[01:09:37] Oh no.

[01:09:38] Oh no.

[01:09:39] Here it comes.

[01:09:41] Boo.

[01:09:42] Farc is a rating negative five.

[01:09:44] Wow.

[01:09:46] Okay.

[01:09:46] And that's on a 10 scale.

[01:09:49] Face.

[01:09:50] You know,

[01:09:50] Dan,

[01:09:50] you know what?

[01:09:51] They're still talking about it though.

[01:09:53] So that's Dan wins.

[01:09:54] They're talking about it.

[01:09:56] That doesn't matter what they're saying.

[01:09:57] They're talking about it.

[01:09:59] You may have won,

[01:09:59] but humanity has lost something.

[01:10:03] I just want to point this out.

[01:10:05] Um,

[01:10:07] I,

[01:10:07] I don't know what to do with you.

[01:10:09] I really don't.

[01:10:11] Of course,

[01:10:12] Dan,

[01:10:12] don't forget too,

[01:10:14] that you too,

[01:10:15] maybe even you,

[01:10:16] Dan,

[01:10:16] if you gave a damn about this show,

[01:10:18] um,

[01:10:19] can become a subscriber on Patreon to help support Trekkie.

[01:10:23] Cause I got to say,

[01:10:23] Dan,

[01:10:24] before we sort of get into thanking all of our producers and associate

[01:10:27] producers,

[01:10:28] look at that year five pin.

[01:10:31] My God.

[01:10:31] For the Patreon.

[01:10:32] This pin was your idea.

[01:10:34] Um,

[01:10:35] and I'm just excited because you have bloody nips on this.

[01:10:39] Can I just say that out loud?

[01:10:40] Yeah.

[01:10:40] I,

[01:10:41] uh,

[01:10:41] I love this.

[01:10:43] Yeah.

[01:10:43] I love this.

[01:10:44] Fansets did such an amazing job for this year.

[01:10:47] Five pin.

[01:10:48] You got your pointed ears.

[01:10:49] I got the red bloodline across my chest.

[01:10:52] We got the broken gong,

[01:10:53] just absolutely amazing.

[01:10:55] And before we get into the producers,

[01:10:57] um,

[01:10:58] anybody who is on our Patreon,

[01:11:00] who is of that level that they can get a pin,

[01:11:03] you should have received your pin by now.

[01:11:05] So if you haven't,

[01:11:06] please let me know so I can make sure that I get it out to you.

[01:11:09] I'll go through and do all our checks and rechecks.

[01:11:11] And I have bill check my checks,

[01:11:12] uh,

[01:11:13] and we'll get one sent out to you if you did not get one yet,

[01:11:15] but yeah,

[01:11:16] that's,

[01:11:17] that's a beautiful one,

[01:11:17] but I will say this too,

[01:11:19] Bill,

[01:11:19] we got some good ones planned for coming up.

[01:11:21] Don't we?

[01:11:21] Yeah,

[01:11:22] we do.

[01:11:22] I just want to point out where Blake is in Australia.

[01:11:25] Oh yeah.

[01:11:26] Early in the day.

[01:11:27] Can you imagine him having to go through the torture of seeing you first thing in the morning?

[01:11:32] I know I got a lot of pretty.

[01:11:34] It's,

[01:11:34] I don't think it is.

[01:11:35] I got a lot of coworkers now in Australia and,

[01:11:37] um,

[01:11:37] I've had to have meetings with them and it's 8 AM their time.

[01:11:40] And I'm sure that I am not what they want to wake up to.

[01:11:43] Just saying.

[01:11:45] Fun fact.

[01:11:45] Did you know how to say the,

[01:11:47] the phrase razor blades and make it sound like you're from Australia?

[01:11:51] Oh boy.

[01:11:51] Here we go.

[01:11:52] Stay the phrase rise up lights very fast altogether.

[01:11:56] Rise up lights.

[01:11:57] See,

[01:11:58] it sounds like razor blades.

[01:11:59] That's awesome.

[01:12:01] Wait a minute.

[01:12:01] Is Blake strike saying that he did not get your pin?

[01:12:04] Did you not get your pin yet?

[01:12:05] Blake?

[01:12:05] I know.

[01:12:06] I sent it.

[01:12:06] It's Australia.

[01:12:07] It takes like six weeks to get there.

[01:12:09] So I'll check the tracking for you,

[01:12:11] pal.

[01:12:11] The place used to be a prison colony.

[01:12:13] Is it any wonder?

[01:12:14] Um,

[01:12:16] anyway,

[01:12:16] say that out loud.

[01:12:17] I'm sorry,

[01:12:17] Blake.

[01:12:19] Anyway,

[01:12:19] you know,

[01:12:20] yeah.

[01:12:22] Yeah.

[01:12:24] The pin is great.

[01:12:25] Um,

[01:12:26] it's just a way for us to thank our Patreons for,

[01:12:28] uh,

[01:14:01] Dan,

[01:14:02] for now and all time,

[01:14:04] the senior producer of Trek geeks is the one,

[01:14:07] the only,

[01:14:08] a college man,

[01:14:09] Jude Tattman.

[01:14:11] College man,

[01:14:12] Jude Tattman.

[01:14:12] So if I'm,

[01:14:13] if,

[01:14:14] if I'm correct in this,

[01:14:15] he's watching right now and it is way past his bedtime

[01:14:18] because he probably has like finals or some shit going on over in,

[01:14:23] in great Britain right now.

[01:14:25] So get to bed,

[01:14:25] mister.

[01:14:26] I will be looking for your report card.

[01:14:29] You too can become a producer of the Trek geeks podcast.

[01:14:32] And it's so easy to do this.

[01:14:33] Head on over to patrion.com slash Trek geeks for all the details.

[01:14:38] Wow.

[01:14:39] You,

[01:14:41] you,

[01:14:41] you were,

[01:14:42] you're all over the place tonight.

[01:14:43] I'm going to get a text from him in like two minutes.

[01:14:45] No,

[01:14:45] probably from,

[01:14:46] from his mom.

[01:14:47] Yes.

[01:14:48] And I won't get it,

[01:14:49] which is fine.

[01:14:50] That's right.

[01:14:51] That's all right.

[01:14:51] I know you're everybody's favorite and that's cool.

[01:14:55] Dan,

[01:14:55] instead of talking about what we're going to do next week,

[01:14:57] because we have no freaking idea.

[01:15:00] I want to talk about what are you excited for the holidays this year?

[01:15:04] We both got our trees up now.

[01:15:06] We've got some Christmas spirit,

[01:15:07] you know,

[01:15:08] going on.

[01:15:08] Um,

[01:15:09] what are you looking forward to this December?

[01:15:11] I'm looking forward to being with the ones I love,

[01:15:14] to be honest with you.

[01:15:15] Um,

[01:15:16] I think that over the course of the last couple of years,

[01:15:19] it's been,

[01:15:19] there's been some really difficult shit that's gone on between with you and

[01:15:23] your life and with me and my life,

[01:15:26] we've lost people.

[01:15:26] I lost both my parents and,

[01:15:28] and,

[01:15:29] um,

[01:15:29] you know,

[01:15:30] it's great to have that Christmas spirit again.

[01:15:32] Um,

[01:15:32] and I'm glad you brought it up.

[01:15:34] Whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or anything,

[01:15:39] be with the people you love,

[01:15:41] love each other and enjoy the time because you never know when it might not

[01:15:45] be there.

[01:15:46] Um,

[01:15:47] I hope everybody has a fantastic holiday.

[01:15:49] I am looking forward to spending time with Sue and the kids.

[01:15:53] They're going to come down,

[01:15:54] uh,

[01:15:55] from Maine,

[01:15:55] uh,

[01:15:56] and spend some time.

[01:15:57] Uh,

[01:15:57] and of course we'll be spending time with my sister,

[01:15:59] brother-in-law,

[01:16:00] brother and sister-in-law.

[01:16:02] And,

[01:16:02] uh,

[01:16:03] I'm,

[01:16:03] I'm looking forward to it.

[01:16:04] Um,

[01:16:04] it's going to be weird this year.

[01:16:06] Ari is not here.

[01:16:07] We just lost her a few weeks back.

[01:16:09] Um,

[01:16:09] but,

[01:16:10] uh,

[01:16:10] we got each other and that's important and it's going to be weird.

[01:16:13] You're not nearby,

[01:16:14] man.

[01:16:14] We usually get together and,

[01:16:15] and do something,

[01:16:16] uh,

[01:16:17] near the holiday,

[01:16:17] but I hope you and your wife and lovely pup have a fantastic holiday.

[01:16:21] Also.

[01:16:22] Thank you.

[01:16:22] We're looking forward to our first Christmas in our new home here in North Carolina.

[01:16:26] Um,

[01:16:27] we,

[01:16:27] we love it here.

[01:16:29] We made the right move for us at the right time.

[01:16:31] Good.

[01:16:32] Uh,

[01:16:32] we haven't looked back once,

[01:16:34] you know,

[01:16:34] we,

[01:16:35] I never thought that I'd be at a,

[01:16:36] at a point in my life where I'm ready to move to the country.

[01:16:39] Um,

[01:16:40] but we have,

[01:16:41] and it's been everything that I didn't know it could be.

[01:16:44] Awesome.

[01:16:44] I,

[01:16:44] I love it.

[01:16:45] It's quiet.

[01:16:46] You know,

[01:16:47] I don't have to worry about traffic or,

[01:16:49] you know,

[01:16:50] um,

[01:16:52] reservations or,

[01:16:53] or,

[01:16:54] or you name it.

[01:16:55] It's,

[01:16:55] it's a much simpler way of life.

[01:17:00] I suppose.

[01:17:01] Um,

[01:17:01] I don't work as hard as any of the farmers out here.

[01:17:03] That's,

[01:17:04] that's for damn sure.

[01:17:05] Yes.

[01:17:05] Um,

[01:17:06] uh,

[01:17:06] actually Ross,

[01:17:07] that's not true.

[01:17:07] I,

[01:17:07] the last few in New Hampshire were pretty much non snowy.

[01:17:10] Yep.

[01:17:11] But I do echo Robert's comment.

[01:17:12] Happy Honda days.

[01:17:13] Quite honestly.

[01:17:15] I will,

[01:17:15] I will say also one other thing,

[01:17:17] Bill,

[01:17:17] we talked about this year,

[01:17:18] you know,

[01:17:19] we've been through stuff.

[01:17:20] It's,

[01:17:20] it's so great.

[01:17:21] I think both you and I now are finally at a point where we don't have like ridiculous chaos going on,

[01:17:26] um,

[01:17:27] for Christmas.

[01:17:28] I am so happy,

[01:17:29] uh,

[01:17:30] with my new job that I,

[01:17:31] I started six weeks ago this week.

[01:17:33] The team that I have is absolutely fantastic.

[01:17:35] I know I am going to love it there.

[01:17:37] And it's so good to have a career path where you are looking forward to things.

[01:17:43] And that's where I finally am.

[01:17:44] Um,

[01:17:45] the three months that I had after I got laid off was tough,

[01:17:48] but it was tough beforehand with stuff that was going on,

[01:17:50] which you know,

[01:17:51] well,

[01:17:51] um,

[01:17:52] because you were there also.

[01:17:53] So I,

[01:17:54] I feel blessed this year.

[01:17:55] Uh,

[01:17:56] and I'm looking towards a wonderful celebration next week with the people that I love.

[01:18:00] And of course,

[01:18:01] you know,

[01:18:01] we hope everybody watching and listening to this.

[01:18:03] We hope that your holidays are spent with the people you love,

[01:18:05] the people who bring you joy.

[01:18:07] We hope you make great new memories,

[01:18:09] regardless of what holiday you celebrate,

[01:18:11] or even if it's just a day in your life,

[01:18:14] I hope it's a great time for you.

[01:18:17] Safe and happy.

[01:18:18] And all of those things,

[01:18:19] we're grateful to all of you who,

[01:18:20] who continue to turn out and support Trek geeks after all this time.

[01:18:24] And,

[01:18:25] um,

[01:18:25] we're looking forward to doing some new and amazing stuff in,

[01:18:28] in 2025 and beyond fair statement.

[01:18:31] That's a very fair statement.

[01:18:33] I couldn't have said it any better myself,

[01:18:34] and I'm not going to try.

[01:18:36] Well,

[01:18:36] that's good.

[01:18:36] Well,

[01:18:37] with that,

[01:18:37] Dan,

[01:18:38] let's,

[01:18:38] uh,

[01:18:39] let's move on to things.

[01:18:40] We do hope you all live long and prosper.

[01:18:42] Happy holidays.

[01:18:44] Happy holidays.

[01:18:45] And I got to tell you,

[01:18:46] man,

[01:18:46] it was great.

[01:18:47] Julie,

[01:18:47] but she had gacked out there.

[01:18:48] They're doing their thing.

[01:18:49] They're getting,

[01:18:49] they're getting tortured and they're getting,

[01:18:51] getting shot to death or something like that.

[01:18:53] And they're throwing coconuts at everyone to knock them out and save the girl.

[01:18:56] It was great.

[01:18:57] Absolutely fine.

[01:18:58] So get out of there.

[01:18:59] Let's go.

[01:19:00] Music for Trek geeks is provided by five year mission.

[01:19:04] They're writing an original song for each episode of,

[01:20:04] Wow.

[01:20:05] The timing on that.

[01:20:05] Perfect.

[01:20:06] Once again,

[01:20:06] Dan,

[01:20:07] amazing.

[01:20:07] I don't know how you do it.

[01:20:08] I don't know how you do it.

[01:20:10] I do nothing.

[01:20:11] It's all you.

[01:20:12] You're a genius.

[01:20:13] My friend,

[01:20:15] may I say,

[01:20:16] in the words of Robert Reyes,

[01:20:19] Hmm.

[01:20:21] Bing bong.

[01:20:24] Bing bong.

[01:20:25] We haven't done it in a long time.

[01:20:27] Yeah.

[01:20:27] It's,

[01:20:27] it's still weird.

[01:20:28] I got to say,

[01:20:29] it's still weird doing the outtake literally at the end of the show.

[01:20:33] Now.

[01:20:34] It really is.

[01:20:34] I don't know if I'm ever going to get,

[01:20:36] uh,

[01:20:37] uh,

[01:20:37] it's not in here,

[01:20:38] but I go to Ross.

[01:20:40] Ross,

[01:20:41] Ross lives down here in North Carolina too.

[01:20:43] He's not all that far from me compared to where you are,

[01:20:45] Dan in New Hampshire.

[01:20:46] Yeah.

[01:20:47] Um,

[01:20:48] but,

[01:20:48] uh,

[01:20:49] but yeah,

[01:20:49] uh,

[01:20:50] there've been like three good fark isms throughout the history of Trek geeks.

[01:20:54] Ross,

[01:20:55] um,

[01:20:55] tonight was not one of them.

[01:20:56] It wasn't bad.

[01:20:58] And also it wasn't great.

[01:20:59] The delivery maybe could have been worked on,

[01:21:02] but the actual fark ism itself.

[01:21:04] It,

[01:21:04] it,

[01:21:04] it,

[01:21:05] it just rolled off my tongue.

[01:21:08] A farcratus,

[01:21:09] a farcratus,

[01:21:10] Noah.

[01:21:11] If farcratus,

[01:21:13] farcratus,

[01:21:14] farcratus,

[01:21:14] a farcratus,

[01:21:15] whatever,

[01:21:15] you know,

[01:21:15] you know who Hippocrates is.

[01:21:17] Yes.

[01:21:17] He was a philosopher.

[01:21:20] Okay.

[01:21:22] Yeah.

[01:21:22] Hippocrates Smith.

[01:21:23] He lived over on a Cobalt Ave.

[01:21:25] No,

[01:21:25] dumb street.

[01:21:28] He's very blue over there.

[01:21:31] He's blue.

[01:21:31] Got a lead on down,

[01:21:32] got a lead on down.

[01:21:33] Anyway.

[01:21:35] Wow.

[01:21:35] It's good to see you pal.

[01:21:36] It's good to see you too,

[01:21:37] buddy.

[01:21:37] It's been a while.

[01:21:38] It has been a while.

[01:21:39] The new job is going well.

[01:21:40] Oh my God,

[01:21:42] blowing smoke.

[01:21:42] I don't know if any of the people from work were listening because I did let them know that we're going to be recording live.

[01:21:47] We didn't even talk about it.

[01:21:48] This was our,

[01:21:49] this was live to the entire world tonight,

[01:21:52] which we decided we wanted to try.

[01:21:55] So yeah.

[01:21:56] So I told,

[01:21:57] I told my team that we're going to be doing it.

[01:22:00] So some of them may have been on,

[01:22:01] I don't know.

[01:22:01] I don't know if they were listening or not.

[01:22:03] Sorry if you were,

[01:22:04] but it's great.

[01:22:05] I am so happy that I am where I am.

[01:22:09] It's,

[01:22:10] it's great to wake up in the morning and look forward to going to work,

[01:22:14] even though I just have to go up the stairs into my office.

[01:22:16] What a line of bullshit you were saying for an hour before we started.

[01:22:20] How much you hate that fucking place.

[01:22:22] Yeah.

[01:22:22] You're such a jerk.

[01:22:24] No,

[01:22:24] it's all the,

[01:22:25] all the people are fantastic.

[01:22:26] I don't think I've ever had a team that everyone is so welcoming and offering the help and everything like that.

[01:22:34] So I'm very happy.

[01:22:36] I know I'm going to be happy there.

[01:22:38] And I'm looking forward to it.

[01:22:39] It's only been six weeks.

[01:22:40] I actually had my first official support ticket with a live customer this week,

[01:22:46] and it felt great to get back at it.

[01:22:48] So yeah.

[01:22:50] Oh,

[01:22:50] Dan,

[01:22:51] you're a far gossiper.

[01:22:54] I like that.

[01:22:55] See,

[01:22:56] this is why I do the fark isms.

[01:22:58] No,

[01:22:59] it's not.

[01:23:01] No,

[01:23:02] it's not.

[01:23:03] Yeah.

[01:23:03] So how many fark isms have,

[01:23:05] has there been?

[01:23:06] Cause we've done 319 episodes,

[01:23:07] but we didn't do this.

[01:23:09] But I'd say what?

[01:23:10] 300.

[01:23:12] Probably a little over three.

[01:23:13] And you said,

[01:23:14] I've got three good ones.

[01:23:16] Three out of 300.

[01:23:17] Huh?

[01:23:18] Yeah.

[01:23:18] You're at 1% or less.

[01:23:20] Possibly.

[01:23:21] I'll take it.

[01:23:23] So you're saying there's a chance.

[01:23:29] So,

[01:23:30] yeah,

[01:23:30] things are,

[01:23:30] things are good,

[01:23:31] man.

[01:23:31] I'm,

[01:23:31] I'm in a good place.

[01:23:33] I'm very happy.

[01:23:33] Of course,

[01:23:34] things are great with,

[01:23:35] with the wife and,

[01:23:36] and Miley has,

[01:23:39] has kind of,

[01:23:40] um,

[01:23:41] um,

[01:23:42] transition to not have an Ari around.

[01:23:44] That was very difficult.

[01:23:45] That was unexpected.

[01:23:46] Something that we,

[01:23:47] uh,

[01:23:48] weren't prepared for at all,

[01:23:49] but,

[01:23:49] uh,

[01:23:49] we're doing good.

[01:23:50] Uh,

[01:23:50] went out and got a new tattoo last week.

[01:23:52] I got a haunted mansion tattoo that I've wanted for a long time.

[01:23:55] And it came out fantastic.

[01:23:56] And I'm going to plug anybody in Southern New Hampshire who wants a tattoo,

[01:24:00] go to the ink club tattoo studio on Hudson and talk to Amber because she is just phenomenal with her watercolors.

[01:24:06] So,

[01:24:07] um,

[01:24:08] yeah,

[01:24:08] things are good,

[01:24:08] buddy.

[01:24:09] How about you?

[01:24:10] I remember a time when you couldn't envision yourself getting one tattoo.

[01:24:13] Never.

[01:24:14] And now I think you've almost caught up to me.

[01:24:16] I have got one,

[01:24:18] two,

[01:24:19] three,

[01:24:20] four,

[01:24:20] five,

[01:24:20] six.

[01:24:20] I've got six.

[01:24:21] Now you've tied me.

[01:24:22] I have six.

[01:24:23] Yep.

[01:24:23] So,

[01:24:24] and I got a couple ideas for a couple other ones.

[01:24:27] Um,

[01:24:27] but yeah,

[01:24:28] I,

[01:24:28] I,

[01:24:29] uh,

[01:24:29] 10 years ago,

[01:24:31] um,

[01:24:32] I would have said,

[01:24:33] I'll never get a tattoo.

[01:24:34] There's no way I will ever,

[01:24:35] ever,

[01:24:36] ever get a tattoo.

[01:24:37] And now look,

[01:24:38] yep.

[01:24:39] And only two Star Trek ones out of the six.

[01:24:41] We're going to run a contest through Trek geeks to design Dan's tramp stamp tattoo.

[01:24:46] Well,

[01:24:47] well,

[01:24:47] I'm going to have to get rid of the one that's already there.

[01:24:50] You don't have one.

[01:24:53] I just dropped something.

[01:24:54] Hold on.

[01:24:54] We love you too.

[01:24:55] Tamiya.

[01:24:56] Have a great time.

[01:24:57] Say hi to all the sisters for us.

[01:25:00] Hey,

[01:25:00] what's up girl?

[01:25:01] Huh?

[01:25:03] Um,

[01:25:04] yeah,

[01:25:04] no,

[01:25:04] we really should have a contest where somebody designs or has an idea that we have to get

[01:25:09] tattooed on us,

[01:25:10] but it's got you for charity.

[01:25:12] True.

[01:25:13] Cause that's what we like to do.

[01:25:15] We like to do stuff for cherry.

[01:25:16] Yeah.

[01:25:17] I could get my face on you,

[01:25:18] dude.

[01:25:20] You don't think you could raise enough money charity to do that?

[01:25:23] No,

[01:25:24] no,

[01:25:24] no way.

[01:25:25] No,

[01:25:25] no,

[01:25:26] I've contemplated getting a Danny DeVito's face tattooed on me.

[01:25:30] What's that from?

[01:25:31] Danny.

[01:25:32] You don't watch.

[01:25:33] It's always sunny in Philadelphia.

[01:25:34] I have it.

[01:25:35] I haven't watched it yet.

[01:25:36] It's,

[01:25:36] um,

[01:25:37] Danny DeVito is by all accounts,

[01:25:41] one of the kindest people in Hollywood.

[01:25:42] Oh,

[01:25:43] and he's had a career where he has just been nothing but funny.

[01:25:47] Plus he's also directed some great films like,

[01:25:49] like Hoffa.

[01:25:50] You know,

[01:25:51] the one Nicholson's in Danny DeVito directed that.

[01:25:53] He directed Obama from the train.

[01:25:55] Did not know that.

[01:25:56] He's directed several others.

[01:25:57] Throw him on the train.

[01:25:58] Oh God,

[01:25:58] you lied to me.

[01:26:00] Right?

[01:26:01] So I just,

[01:26:03] Danny DeVito is the man.

[01:26:04] Plus he's only like four 11.

[01:26:06] Yeah.

[01:26:06] There's short guys everywhere.

[01:26:08] There you go.

[01:26:09] Yep.

[01:26:10] Oh,

[01:26:10] that's cool.

[01:26:11] No,

[01:26:11] look at this.

[01:26:12] Robert,

[01:26:12] pull that one up.

[01:26:14] Robert's got us going to get the ball rolling.

[01:26:17] We don't deal with euros.

[01:26:18] Robert.

[01:26:20] Yeah.

[01:26:20] Where'd that come from?

[01:26:21] Aren't you in like,

[01:26:22] where is he?

[01:26:23] Vegas,

[01:26:24] California,

[01:26:25] California,

[01:26:26] California.

[01:26:26] Yeah.

[01:26:28] Shouldn't he be getting ready for work?

[01:26:29] Robert?

[01:26:30] I think he said that a little while ago.

[01:26:31] Yeah.

[01:26:32] I don't know.

[01:26:33] He said he wasn't wearing a sweater,

[01:26:36] which I don't believe that for a second.

[01:26:38] I don't believe that for a minute.

[01:26:38] That's a goddamn lie.

[01:26:39] Um,

[01:26:40] so you see on your track tree,

[01:26:42] I see you've got your,

[01:26:43] your enterprise tree topper.

[01:26:45] Yes.

[01:26:45] For the first time since I bought them,

[01:26:49] I actually set up my inner,

[01:26:51] my star Trek storytellers ornaments.

[01:26:52] Awesome.

[01:26:53] I haven't found my Scotty and my,

[01:26:55] my bones yet.

[01:26:56] Oh,

[01:26:57] okay.

[01:26:57] They're in a different box.

[01:26:58] Okay.

[01:26:59] How will the other ones set up?

[01:27:00] And I turned it on for the first time today.

[01:27:04] Isn't it amazing?

[01:27:05] Oh my God.

[01:27:06] It is okay.

[01:27:07] For anybody who does not have this or has not seen it.

[01:27:12] We're not joking.

[01:27:14] When we say this is like the best thing for star Trek fans to have that tree topper.

[01:27:20] The way when I,

[01:27:21] when I turn it on,

[01:27:22] I'll shut the light,

[01:27:23] you know,

[01:27:24] turn the lights off because just the,

[01:27:25] the way that the lighting is on a thing,

[01:27:27] the,

[01:27:27] the shadows that it casts on the ceiling,

[01:27:29] the music,

[01:27:30] the sounds it's in incredible.

[01:27:33] And I got to give kudos to Hallmark.

[01:27:35] Of course,

[01:27:36] star Trek is number one,

[01:27:37] but they also have a haunted mansion version of this storytellers.

[01:27:40] They've got a Harry Potter one.

[01:27:42] They got star Wars,

[01:27:43] of course.

[01:27:44] So there's a lot of genres out there for fans and stuff to have incredible trees with great storytelling components to it.

[01:27:50] It's,

[01:27:51] it's fantastic.

[01:27:52] I mean,

[01:27:52] you know,

[01:27:53] I,

[01:27:53] as you recall back in the day,

[01:27:54] I lost a whole bunch of ornaments in a flood of my storage unit.

[01:27:57] I have gotten a good number of them back.

[01:28:00] Not all of them,

[01:28:00] obviously,

[01:28:01] but I was putting them on the tree today for the first time.

[01:28:03] Cause you know,

[01:28:04] I really haven't put up a tree the last few years,

[01:28:06] several years.

[01:28:07] Yeah.

[01:28:07] Yeah.

[01:28:08] And I,

[01:28:08] I was putting them on,

[01:28:09] putting the tree up,

[01:28:10] you know,

[01:28:10] the other weekend.

[01:28:11] I'm like,

[01:28:11] damn,

[01:28:12] this feels good.

[01:28:13] I feel like I've got some Christmas back,

[01:28:14] you know?

[01:28:15] Um,

[01:28:16] it's,

[01:28:16] uh,

[01:28:17] it,

[01:28:17] it feels kind of weird.

[01:28:18] I'm not going to lie.

[01:28:19] I think we needed it this year.

[01:28:21] Um,

[01:28:22] even though we're both in a good place,

[01:28:23] we needed something,

[01:28:24] to celebrate.

[01:28:26] Cause it's been a,

[01:28:26] it's been a tough year for some people,

[01:28:28] uh,

[01:28:29] this year in the United States with things going on.

[01:28:31] And I think a lot of people,

[01:28:33] I,

[01:28:33] I saw a lot of people decorating stuff way early this year.

[01:28:37] Um,

[01:28:38] and we decided to do the same thing and I'm glad we did.

[01:28:40] Cause it's been,

[01:28:41] it's been great.

[01:28:42] It's been helpful.

[01:28:42] Some might say we need a little Christmas right this very minute.

[01:28:47] Some might say that.

[01:28:49] I would say that.

[01:28:53] Candles in the window.

[01:28:55] Carol's at the spinet.

[01:28:56] There you go.

[01:28:57] Nobody has spinets anymore.

[01:28:58] What the hell is that?

[01:28:59] I had one.

[01:29:00] It doesn't fit me anymore.

[01:29:01] So.

[01:29:02] Oh,

[01:29:02] Mark does have a massive ornament business for the geek community.

[01:29:04] And of course,

[01:29:05] um,

[01:29:06] Jim,

[01:29:06] uh,

[01:29:07] if you know,

[01:29:07] author Kevin Dilmore also works with them a lot and actually was on the

[01:29:11] team,

[01:29:11] I believe responsible for the storytellers or it's among others.

[01:29:15] So.

[01:29:16] And,

[01:29:16] and it's great when,

[01:29:17] for,

[01:29:18] for those of you who don't have it,

[01:29:19] when you get all of the ornaments of the crew,

[01:29:23] when you connect them all,

[01:29:24] you basically get the entire mirror,

[01:29:26] mirror you episode.

[01:29:28] Yeah.

[01:29:28] They almost the entire episode place.

[01:29:30] It's phenomenal.

[01:29:31] It's really great.

[01:29:32] It's at least 20 minutes long.

[01:29:34] Um,

[01:29:35] I'm sure Mary Wiseman did know or Mary chief.

[01:29:37] Oh,

[01:29:37] did know that we need a little Christmas.

[01:29:38] I'm just throwing that out there.

[01:29:41] Um,

[01:29:42] that's just me,

[01:29:43] but yeah,

[01:29:44] it's,

[01:29:44] it's,

[01:29:45] you know,

[01:29:45] honestly,

[01:29:46] my Christmas spirit was to make Christmas great for my mom back in the

[01:29:49] day because she made Christmas great for us for so many years.

[01:29:52] Yep.

[01:29:53] So when I became an adult,

[01:29:53] I made it my mission to give her a great Christmas every year.

[01:29:57] And I did my best.

[01:29:58] Are you picking your teeth with a bat?

[01:30:00] While I'm telling an important story.

[01:30:03] I'm,

[01:30:03] I'm,

[01:30:04] I'm listening.

[01:30:05] Are you?

[01:30:06] I am mom Christmas.

[01:30:09] I'm right there with you.

[01:30:10] All right.

[01:30:10] Pick your teeth on,

[01:30:11] you know,

[01:30:12] on somebody else's time.

[01:30:13] I had an itch.

[01:30:15] On your tooth.

[01:30:17] Pretty.

[01:30:19] What's wrong with you?

[01:30:20] Oh God,

[01:30:21] it was fun.

[01:30:21] So when my mom passed away,

[01:30:23] it's hard to believe seven and a half years ago.

[01:30:25] Unbelievable.

[01:30:26] Yeah.

[01:30:26] Um,

[01:30:27] I,

[01:30:27] I kind of just really didn't care about Christmas.

[01:30:30] I didn't put the tree up.

[01:30:32] I didn't go through a lot of my Christmas traditions because I'm,

[01:30:34] I had many.

[01:30:35] Yeah.

[01:30:36] Many.

[01:30:37] Yep.

[01:30:38] Um,

[01:30:38] and,

[01:30:39] uh,

[01:30:39] I'm finally,

[01:30:40] finally feeling kind of getting back into the swing of things.

[01:30:43] Yeah.

[01:30:43] No,

[01:30:44] I hear you.

[01:30:44] I mean,

[01:30:45] I,

[01:30:45] it's family was my mom's existence.

[01:30:49] Um,

[01:30:50] and it is very strange to not be doing holidays with her or dad,

[01:30:54] uh,

[01:30:55] both being gone,

[01:30:55] but,

[01:30:56] um,

[01:30:57] um,

[01:30:57] we're enjoying,

[01:30:58] we're going to enjoy what we got and we're going to,

[01:31:00] uh,

[01:31:00] have a good time.

[01:31:01] And,

[01:31:01] and I got to tell you,

[01:31:03] man,

[01:31:03] this has been a fantastic evening.

[01:31:05] Um,

[01:31:06] it's been a while since we've sat and done this.

[01:31:08] It's been a lot of fun.

[01:31:08] I'm,

[01:31:09] uh,

[01:31:10] I'm,

[01:31:10] I'm glad that we did it.

[01:31:11] It's awesome.

[01:31:12] Fun stuff.

[01:31:12] Me too.

[01:31:13] Um,

[01:31:13] I don't think we'll get another one in before Christmas.

[01:31:16] Right.

[01:31:16] Yeah.

[01:31:17] I don't think so either.

[01:31:18] Yep.

[01:31:18] But we might be able to sneak one in before the end of the year.

[01:31:20] You never know.

[01:31:21] That would be good.

[01:31:22] We don't know what the topic's going to be.

[01:31:26] Who says there has to be a topic?

[01:31:28] That's right.

[01:31:29] Absolutely.

[01:31:29] Oh,

[01:31:29] you know what we didn't do tonight?

[01:31:30] We didn't talk about Thursday night geeks.

[01:31:34] Well,

[01:31:34] we give it time.

[01:31:36] Listeners,

[01:31:37] people listening.

[01:31:38] There's,

[01:31:38] you know,

[01:31:38] there's people watching too,

[01:31:39] right?

[01:31:40] And watching.

[01:31:40] Yes.

[01:31:41] Thank you very much.

[01:31:42] I said it the other day.

[01:31:43] Somebody said to me at work,

[01:31:44] goes,

[01:31:44] I said that we're going to be doing this.

[01:31:46] This,

[01:31:46] we do a live,

[01:31:47] we're going to do a live stream.

[01:31:48] And I don't know when it became such a thing for people to watch people talking into

[01:31:53] microphones,

[01:31:53] but it's a thing.

[01:31:54] So here we are.

[01:31:56] Ever since MSNBC came on board in like 1996.

[01:31:59] Okay.

[01:32:03] You get these,

[01:32:04] you get these beautiful faces or beautiful face and you,

[01:32:07] uh,

[01:32:08] in front of your camera here talking to all of our listeners and friends.

[01:32:11] It's pretty awesome.

[01:32:12] I will have,

[01:32:13] you know,

[01:32:14] I'm gorgeous.

[01:32:15] You are gorgeous.

[01:32:16] You're effing gorgeous.

[01:32:19] Ryan,

[01:32:20] you're not wrong.

[01:32:22] We had a lot to talk about.

[01:32:25] I felt like I had adult onset ADHD.

[01:32:28] Quite frankly,

[01:32:30] first time listeners in the non Patreon universe are like,

[01:32:33] what the is going on?

[01:32:35] It's been a long road.

[01:32:38] There it goes.

[01:32:39] Yeah.

[01:32:39] I hate that song.

[01:32:40] Oh,

[01:32:41] yes.

[01:32:41] My face is gorgeous.

[01:32:43] Thank you,

[01:32:43] Blake.

[01:32:43] Are you serious?

[01:32:44] She was fricking late.

[01:32:47] Are you serious girl?

[01:32:52] It's never going to end.

[01:32:53] Is it?

[01:32:53] Christina,

[01:32:54] I can only hope that your new year's resolution,

[01:32:56] um,

[01:32:58] is to not work as much.

[01:33:00] Yes.

[01:33:00] That's right.

[01:33:01] Well,

[01:33:01] it is.

[01:33:02] Yeah.

[01:33:03] Live as video casts have been around for a bit,

[01:33:05] Dan.

[01:33:06] I understand that,

[01:33:07] but I just,

[01:33:07] I just,

[01:33:08] I've never understood.

[01:33:09] I've never understood the,

[01:33:11] the wanton desire to watch people just sit there and talk.

[01:33:16] And I didn't understand it until I saw my youngest doing it constantly watching her video game.

[01:33:23] People sit there and play video games that she's not even playing,

[01:33:26] but sitting there watching for hours.

[01:33:28] I'm like,

[01:33:29] I can't,

[01:33:30] can't wrap my head around it,

[01:33:31] but here we are.

[01:33:32] I'm going to take this as a compliment.

[01:33:35] Yes.

[01:33:37] I don't know if,

[01:33:39] if Jim means it to be one or not,

[01:33:41] but that's how I'm taking it.

[01:33:43] I'm taking it as one as well.

[01:33:44] Yeah,

[01:33:45] we know,

[01:33:45] Dan,

[01:33:46] we picked you out of the crowd.

[01:33:48] Um,

[01:33:49] the words that launched this show,

[01:33:51] what's a podcast,

[01:33:52] what's a podcast?

[01:33:53] No,

[01:33:54] what's a podcast.

[01:33:55] And then you'd like had to bitch at me for like a year before I said,

[01:33:58] yes.

[01:34:00] Thursday night geeks is definitely going to be different.

[01:34:02] I mean,

[01:34:03] where,

[01:34:04] um,

[01:34:05] where this is really kind of like two guys who can barely keep a thought together between them.

[01:34:10] Um,

[01:34:11] the other Dan is going to keep us on track a little more with Thursday night geeks.

[01:34:15] Yes.

[01:34:16] Um,

[01:34:16] our,

[01:34:17] our good friend,

[01:34:17] Dan Garcia is going to come in and actually,

[01:34:19] uh,

[01:34:20] run the board in the show,

[01:34:21] if you will.

[01:34:22] And,

[01:34:22] um,

[01:34:23] and make sure that I am not overtaxed.

[01:34:26] I've missed Dan.

[01:34:27] Um,

[01:34:27] yeah,

[01:34:28] me too.

[01:34:28] Yeah.

[01:34:29] Although he didn't say that about you.

[01:34:31] I think he hates you.

[01:34:31] That's,

[01:34:32] that's,

[01:34:32] that's right.

[01:34:32] A lot of people do.

[01:34:33] It's all right.

[01:34:33] It's,

[01:34:33] it's,

[01:34:34] it's just bounces off me like rubber glue,

[01:34:35] whatever you say bounces off me.

[01:34:37] You're the favorite of a lot of people,

[01:34:39] but I mean,

[01:34:39] I think that I'm Dan's favorite,

[01:34:41] quite frankly.

[01:34:42] You,

[01:34:42] and that,

[01:34:43] and that's fine.

[01:34:44] You deserve at least one.

[01:34:46] I do.

[01:34:47] I do.

[01:34:48] Um,

[01:34:50] Robert,

[01:34:51] where have you been?

[01:34:52] No,

[01:34:52] it's Trek geeks,

[01:34:53] Thursday night geeks,

[01:34:54] Thursday night edition.

[01:34:55] What,

[01:34:55] what is happening?

[01:34:57] Right.

[01:34:58] This is,

[01:34:59] what do you think we are?

[01:35:00] Trek NPR over here?

[01:35:01] Oh God.

[01:35:03] Here we go.

[01:35:04] Go ahead.

[01:35:06] Go ahead.

[01:35:07] What do you mean?

[01:35:08] Do your,

[01:35:09] do your NPR.

[01:35:11] I have no idea what you're talking about.

[01:35:15] Hello,

[01:35:16] Dan.

[01:35:16] There it is.

[01:35:18] Ah,

[01:35:19] check geeks after.

[01:35:19] See,

[01:35:20] we have talked about doing something like that for many a year.

[01:35:24] Many a what?

[01:35:25] Year.

[01:35:26] Were you trying to go yarn?

[01:35:28] Like battle?

[01:35:30] Yeah.

[01:35:32] I don't know what a urine is.

[01:35:33] I know.

[01:35:34] Your name is.

[01:35:35] I don't know.

[01:35:35] And talk about it.

[01:35:37] Your name is what you smell like.

[01:35:38] The tech geeks after dark.

[01:35:39] Here we go.

[01:35:41] Ask and you shall receive.

[01:35:43] There you go.

[01:35:43] Yep.

[01:35:45] Yes.

[01:35:45] We have talked about that.

[01:35:47] Actually,

[01:35:48] Robert,

[01:35:48] um,

[01:35:49] you're not wrong.

[01:35:51] True.

[01:35:52] Think of Dan,

[01:35:53] think of everything I've told you about Thursday night geeks.

[01:35:55] And even look at the,

[01:35:55] the graphics package.

[01:35:57] And it screams Monday night football,

[01:35:59] the 1990s on purpose.

[01:36:01] It does.

[01:36:02] Um,

[01:36:02] Ross,

[01:36:03] we get sweaty going up and down the stairs.

[01:36:05] Um,

[01:36:05] so that's really not fair.

[01:36:07] I'm sitting here not doing anything and I'm sorry.

[01:36:09] Cause yeah,

[01:36:10] we're,

[01:36:10] we're old and fat,

[01:36:11] quite frankly.

[01:36:12] I took my hat off.

[01:36:14] I didn't even notice.

[01:36:15] I put my pants on.

[01:36:18] No,

[01:36:18] Thursday night geeks is going to be a little different.

[01:36:20] Um,

[01:36:20] it'll probably be a little more segmented.

[01:36:23] There will be weeks where we probably don't even talk about star Trek,

[01:36:26] which is fine.

[01:36:27] Yes.

[01:36:28] Um,

[01:36:28] maybe you want to talk about a different show you're watching or you want to

[01:36:31] expose people to a show you think is great.

[01:36:33] Maybe we want to talk about food.

[01:36:35] You know,

[01:36:35] maybe there's something that is going on in fandom that we want to talk about.

[01:36:40] So,

[01:36:40] um,

[01:36:41] it's,

[01:36:42] it's going to be check geeks,

[01:36:44] but slightly tweaked,

[01:36:45] which I think will be really fun for both of us and hopefully for our

[01:36:48] audience too.

[01:36:49] Um,

[01:36:50] so week one,

[01:36:51] uh,

[01:36:51] for Thursday night geeks is going to be our 10th anniversary special.

[01:36:54] Yep.

[01:36:54] We are bringing some special guests to the table,

[01:36:56] including the amazing and talented John Billingsley from star Trek

[01:37:00] enterprise and a couple others that we have yet to spring on people.

[01:37:03] So,

[01:37:03] um,

[01:37:04] it's going to be a,

[01:37:05] uh,

[01:37:06] a 90 minute fun fest.

[01:37:08] Looking forward to it.

[01:37:09] And,

[01:37:09] uh,

[01:37:10] uh,

[01:37:10] I like the tweaks.

[01:37:11] So it's going to be Trek tweaks kind of.

[01:37:15] No,

[01:37:15] I'm turning off your microphone.

[01:37:20] See,

[01:37:21] I actually can.

[01:37:21] I did turn off his microphone.

[01:37:23] You don't have to pretend,

[01:37:24] Dan,

[01:37:24] you really are muted.

[01:37:27] Yeah.

[01:37:27] We know you're faking it because you're speaking way faster than you could

[01:37:33] normally.

[01:37:34] Yeah.

[01:37:36] And then it said,

[01:37:36] that's the last I'm going to say about it.

[01:37:39] Well,

[01:37:40] no,

[01:37:42] no,

[01:37:43] not at all.

[01:37:44] Nope.

[01:37:45] We are hostages for the foreseeable future,

[01:37:47] but for now,

[01:37:47] um,

[01:37:49] we probably should call it a show.

[01:37:50] Um,

[01:37:51] we've rambled on long enough about almost nothing.

[01:37:54] Fantastic time though.

[01:37:55] Talking about nothing.

[01:37:56] It's like a big Seinfeld episode.

[01:37:58] I'll wrapped into one hour and 39 minutes.

[01:38:00] It's,

[01:38:01] this is a great question because I've gotten this a couple of times.

[01:38:03] Yeah.

[01:38:03] Um,

[01:38:04] I wouldn't say it's replacing it.

[01:38:06] A good chunk of the audio will wind up being re-released in the audio

[01:38:10] format.

[01:38:11] Um,

[01:38:12] so it will,

[01:38:13] you know,

[01:38:14] be released as Trek geeks episodes.

[01:38:16] But,

[01:38:16] um,

[01:38:17] I,

[01:38:17] I look at them both as kind of extensions of each other.

[01:38:20] Yeah.

[01:38:21] There's no,

[01:38:21] and we will still be doing this,

[01:38:23] not TNG nights as well.

[01:38:26] Stuff like this.

[01:38:27] Yeah.

[01:38:28] So I would hope we will probably mix in content from the live show on

[01:38:32] occasion.

[01:38:33] Yeah.

[01:38:33] so it's,

[01:38:35] uh,

[01:38:36] I,

[01:38:36] the way I see it is there's,

[01:38:37] there's plenty to talk about and plenty we can,

[01:38:39] you know,

[01:38:40] use in both formats that I think it'll be,

[01:38:42] uh,

[01:38:43] it'll be great for everybody.

[01:38:44] So,

[01:38:45] yep.

[01:38:45] Cool.

[01:38:46] There we go.

[01:38:47] Dan,

[01:38:48] um,

[01:38:48] Merry Christmas to you and Sue.

[01:38:50] And to you and the missus as well.

[01:38:52] Thank you.

[01:38:53] And,

[01:38:53] uh,

[01:38:54] we'll do this again.

[01:38:55] Um,

[01:38:56] hopefully sooner rather than later,

[01:38:57] certainly before Thursday night geeks.

[01:38:59] I absolutely.

[01:39:02] Trek talks to Saturday,

[01:39:04] January.

[01:39:04] Sorry.

[01:39:04] Trek talks for four.

[01:39:06] That's because two plus two is for Saturday,

[01:39:09] January 18th,

[01:39:10] uh,

[01:39:11] 1245 PM Pacific start time,

[01:39:13] eight hours of great Star Trek content.

[01:39:15] I can't wait.

[01:39:16] It's going to be awesome.

[01:39:16] It's going to be awesome.

[01:39:17] Lots of big names.

[01:39:18] It's going to be lots of great conversation and lots of money

[01:39:20] raising for Hollywood food coalition.

[01:39:21] Until then everyone peace out,

[01:39:24] live long and prosper.

[01:39:26] Happy holidays.

[01:39:27] See everybody.

[01:39:36] Coconut.

[01:39:37] Bye.

[01:39:38] Bye.

[01:39:39] Bye.

[01:39:39] Bye.
