This site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. That is not a policy position so much as a description: we checked, including after playing an episode, and there is nothing there.
There are no accounts here, nothing to sign up for, and no newsletter. We have nothing to lose because we are not holding anything.
The rest of this page is the detail, written to be accurate about this site rather than copied from a template. The site is run by Coconut MediaWorx LLC.
What we measure
We use Umami for analytics, which counts pages and plays without cookies. Per Umami's own documentation it does not store IP addresses and does not track people between sites; we have configured it to honour your browser's Do Not Track setting and to strip search terms out of the URLs it records.
There is one thing we record beyond page views: when someone presses play, we log which episode it was, by show name and episode title. We do that because nothing else tells us which episodes get listened to on the site rather than merely loaded. It is not attached to a person.
Who else sees your visit
Loading a web page means asking several computers for things, and each of them sees the request. These are the ones involved here, and why:
- Cloudflare: serves every page and every file on this site, so it handles every request by definition.
- The podcast hosts: cover art and the audio itself come from Libsyn, Buzzsprout and their content networks, and from Squarespace for one show. Pressing play streams the file from whichever host that show uses, which is also how a download is counted.
- Google: the Thursday Night Geeks page shows YouTube thumbnails, which come from Google's image servers. The YouTube player itself does not load until you press play, and when it does it loads from youtube-nocookie.com.
- Umami: the analytics described above.
If you use the contact form
It asks for a name, an email address and a message. Those go through Resend, which delivers them to our mailbox, and then they sit in our email like any other message. We use them to reply to you and for nothing else. If you would rather not use the form, the address is on it.
What we do not do
- No advertising: there are no ads on this site and no ad networks in it.
- Nothing is sold or shared: we have no commercial relationship in which your data is the product.
- No profiles: we do not build a picture of you, across this site or any other.
- No fingerprinting: nothing here tries to identify your device.
- Nothing aimed at children: we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EU, California or anywhere with comparable law, you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it is used. In practice the honest answer is usually that we hold nothing, unless you have emailed us, in which case we hold that email.
