[00:00:02] Hey y'all! This podcast may contain offensive language, listener discretion is advised. If

[00:00:17] you're looking for a podcast that discusses not one, not two, but three of six seasons

[00:00:22] of Love Is Blind on Netflix?

[00:00:25] Season two, four, six. You're not talking about the other ones. Or are you looking

[00:00:30] for a podcast that teaches you how to do a watercolor painting for your mental health?

[00:00:36] Ooh, what about a podcast that tries to break down the lessons one can learn from the emerald

[00:00:40] tablets?

[00:00:42] Is that what is that?

[00:00:44] Yeah, we'll get into it.

[00:00:46] I hope it's this podcast. Or are you looking for a podcast that helps you to figure out how to I

[00:00:56] could see your face. You're like, where's she going with this? But like, how do you deal

[00:01:00] with like super deep kitchen cupboards? I just don't know what to do with them.

[00:01:03] Oh, you go in, but you might not come out.

[00:01:06] Well, if that's what you're looking for, the chronicles.

[00:01:11] Then this is not the podcast for you for you or anyone or anyone really. I'm Sarah,

[00:01:17] that's Taley getting lost in the cupboards and we are back after a break. Thanks for

[00:01:21] hanging in there, folks.

[00:01:22] Play it again, Sam.

[00:01:40] Damn, I thought it was Stan.

[00:01:43] Stan, Pam, Pamlamma Ding Dong, Pam, Pam, Pam, Pam, Pam's.

[00:01:47] Oh my God, how are you?

[00:01:49] I'm well.

[00:01:51] It's sunny out.

[00:01:53] It's a day of the week.

[00:01:58] I don't know which one.

[00:01:59] And it's the end of the workday.

[00:02:01] So I'm pretty happy.

[00:02:03] Oh yeah.

[00:02:04] Good. Yes, it's sunny.

[00:02:06] There are some gross gray clouds in the distance.

[00:02:09] I'm not sure if they're coming or going.

[00:02:10] I can barely decide.

[00:02:12] I just drank a fit.

[00:02:13] Okay. Dare me to drive.

[00:02:17] Yeah, I'm good.

[00:02:18] I went and bought flowers for the backyard.

[00:02:21] I got hanging baskets from Costco.

[00:02:23] I've got the blue planters on my thing with freaking beautiful colored pansies.

[00:02:30] I planted some lavender.

[00:02:34] Oh, I planted some irises.

[00:02:37] I'm excited to see some color outside the window.

[00:02:41] That is a foreshore.

[00:02:42] That sounds nice.

[00:02:44] Yeah, other than that, all has been good.

[00:02:46] You know, last time we talked because I recently edited our last episode and we were both in a

[00:02:52] one where like get out of this winter funkel already.

[00:02:56] Let's get spring.

[00:02:56] And it's so nice to say like the camera.

[00:02:58] We're here.

[00:02:59] Like I've been out playing tennis now a couple times.

[00:03:02] I've been out playing pickleball.

[00:03:05] I got the yard stuff done.

[00:03:07] Like I said, like it's been that's I'm so stoked on that.

[00:03:12] It was desperately needed to happen.

[00:03:15] It was so glum and dreary.

[00:03:18] And now anytime I see the sun, I'm just like, yes, bathed me in it.

[00:03:24] It is amazing.

[00:03:24] It's lighter out later.

[00:03:26] Not that that means anything for me, but it just I don't know.

[00:03:29] It just feels like ever since we moved in here, it's been like overcast or raining.

[00:03:33] And so like, I don't know, it's just like nice to see something different.

[00:03:36] It I yeah, it's sad.

[00:03:40] It is real.

[00:03:41] It totally is.

[00:03:42] Yeah, I was just I was fed up.

[00:03:44] I was just kind of itching to have, yeah, especially the longer days,

[00:03:47] like for taking the dogs out and stuff like that.

[00:03:48] And like just having that like it just keeps me a little bit better awake.

[00:03:52] It's not like 430.

[00:03:54] I'm closing the curtains.

[00:03:55] My whole pajama pants on like it's so depressing by the end of it.

[00:03:58] It's great in like October and then I'm over it.

[00:04:00] But totally exactly.

[00:04:01] And yeah, it's like different if there's like, I don't know.

[00:04:05] Like it used to be that, you know, the fall would be time for new TV

[00:04:09] and like you'd get all cozy and like we don't have that anymore now

[00:04:12] with all the streaming stuff.

[00:04:13] Well, maybe it's still on cable.

[00:04:15] I don't know.

[00:04:16] I don't I don't have cable.

[00:04:17] But yeah, now it's like you can cozy up and watch TV anytime.

[00:04:20] And it doesn't have to be fall.

[00:04:22] And it's not as enjoyable when you do it all the time.

[00:04:24] Exactly.

[00:04:27] A while back, I had been saying that I was watching a show

[00:04:29] called Mr. Mercedes.

[00:04:30] Did you ever get a chance to start?

[00:04:32] No, no, no, but it's on the list.

[00:04:34] Yeah, I finished it and it was so good.

[00:04:36] And looking back, like I always do the Internet movie

[00:04:38] database deep dive because I can't not.

[00:04:40] And it turns out the guy that plays the serial killer

[00:04:42] for like the first like for the chunk of the show is the guy

[00:04:45] who played Narik in season one of Picard, the the Romulan with the dark hair.

[00:04:51] OK, yeah. So I was like, oh, that's where he looks familiar.

[00:04:54] And season three, Kate Mulgrew was in season three and she's amazing in it.

[00:04:58] So for all those listening that are fans of both of those people,

[00:05:02] Mr. Mercedes has them in it.

[00:05:04] So highly recommend it was a good show.

[00:05:06] Now I'm watching Love is Blind on Netflix and I hate my life.

[00:05:09] Are you really? Oh, yeah.

[00:05:11] I will grab one away for a couple days and I was like, what's the stupidest thing

[00:05:14] I can put on TV? And I watched the first season.

[00:05:16] But now like I'm in season four and I literally only can say that I've seen

[00:05:20] like three episodes of each season.

[00:05:21] I just watch like the beginning, fast forward through, look for some drama

[00:05:24] and then watch the finale and I'm like, OK, like I'm fine.

[00:05:27] Like I'm not really into it.

[00:05:29] I'm just kind of like scratching the niche, you know, is the premise

[00:05:33] that like they fall in love without seeing each other and then they see each other.

[00:05:37] Yes, so just that exactly.

[00:05:38] There's pods and they go in and have dates.

[00:05:42] And I think it's about like a week where they have dates and then they can start

[00:05:45] choosing like, I want to talk to this person more and then the person

[00:05:49] somebody proposes without ever seeing them.

[00:05:52] And once they propose, that means they get to see them the next day.

[00:05:55] And then they go to Mexico, the couples that have gotten engaged

[00:05:59] to like have like a little romantic getaway, see if there's physical chemistry

[00:06:04] and then there's the meet the parents.

[00:06:05] Then they have the wedding and at the wedding,

[00:06:07] they ask them, do you or do you not take this person?

[00:06:11] So obviously, they set it up for absolute like tiered drinking drama.

[00:06:14] And but, you know, based like spoiler alert folks,

[00:06:18] there's usually a couple couples that actually end up like staying married

[00:06:21] at the one year reunion to your reunion.

[00:06:23] But then I go look for them on Instagram and I'm like,

[00:06:25] doesn't look like they're together anymore.

[00:06:27] But, you know, I'm fine.

[00:06:30] It's stupid. Oh, no, it doesn't matter.

[00:06:32] There is a place in the world for that kind of trash.

[00:06:34] Like it is required when, yeah,

[00:06:37] that you just need something dumb to look at. It's fine.

[00:06:40] It's totally fine.

[00:06:42] I thought that that was a different show.

[00:06:47] There's another show.

[00:06:49] Oh, Love on the Spectrum. That's what I'm thinking.

[00:06:51] Oh, that one's good. I watched that.

[00:06:53] Yeah, I haven't seen that either, but it's all the same kind of people.

[00:06:57] You know what? People just are looking for loves or looking to be loved.

[00:07:01] Yeah. Well, quite oftentimes you're looking for love in all the wrong places.

[00:07:04] So they do the show.

[00:07:06] Hey, Jack, you're looking for love in all the wrong ways

[00:07:09] by crying over there in the corner.

[00:07:11] What about you? What's going on with you?

[00:07:12] I'll give you something to cry about.

[00:07:14] I'll tell you what, John has started making bread.

[00:07:16] So like 3,000 years after the pandemic,

[00:07:20] because we were working through the whole thing,

[00:07:21] we didn't get to go on that sourdough bread train.

[00:07:24] But now he's like, I'm making sourdough.

[00:07:27] He's got three different sourdough starters next to me right now.

[00:07:30] We have pizza dough in the fridge.

[00:07:33] We have bread in the freezer, and he's just going nuts on it, which is awesome.

[00:07:38] And so like his first love is red.

[00:07:40] Oh, me too.

[00:07:41] So his first loves of bread were like so beautiful.

[00:07:43] And he like texted my dad because my dad also bakes bread.

[00:07:47] And my dad just kind of gave the dad thing,

[00:07:50] which is like a thumbs up and kind of like looks good.

[00:07:53] And John's like, well, I was really hoping that your dad

[00:07:56] was going to be more excited about it.

[00:07:58] And he's like, I just want his approval.

[00:08:00] So like I go over to my.

[00:08:03] So first of all, I texted my dad and I was like,

[00:08:05] dad, you need to make a bigger deal when John sends you pictures of bread.

[00:08:08] Like he's looking.

[00:08:10] He wants you to make a big deal.

[00:08:11] And he's like, I already gave him.

[00:08:12] I gave him the thumbs up and I said, homemade bread is the best.

[00:08:16] I'm like, that's not enough.

[00:08:17] You need to freak out about it.

[00:08:19] And so like I'm talking to him like in person a few days later.

[00:08:22] And I was like, Dad, you know, John's really just looking for your approval.

[00:08:25] And he goes, well, he'll never have my approval.

[00:08:30] Shit, that's real.

[00:08:32] He's not talking bread anymore, friends.

[00:08:34] Anyway, but it was so sweet.

[00:08:38] It was so funny.

[00:08:39] Anyway, he's like, I'll make sure that we have a bread making day

[00:08:41] before we go to Europe.

[00:08:42] I'm like, that's so nice.

[00:08:45] I love that.

[00:08:46] Yeah, it's so fun.

[00:08:47] Anyway, John and I are like walking, walking down our street,

[00:08:51] walking home from a walk.

[00:08:52] And there's there's this plaza with like a bunch of stores,

[00:08:57] grocery store, nail salon, Eminem meat, you know, the usual noodle box of all places.

[00:09:04] But there's like really poor pedestrian access to get to this thing.

[00:09:08] Like they just haven't thought it out.

[00:09:09] So there's all these bushes and then like these sort of like little trails

[00:09:12] that people have made to get into the parking lot and whatever.

[00:09:15] So we're walking down the sidewalk and there's like three of these

[00:09:18] little trail thingies that are coming out, but whatever.

[00:09:21] We're just deep in conversation.

[00:09:23] Someone fucking jumps out of the bushes and goes, give me all your money.

[00:09:27] And I'm like, what the fuck is this?

[00:09:29] I thought we moved to like a nice neighborhood.

[00:09:32] It's fucking Cheyenne.

[00:09:34] Oh my God.

[00:09:37] So she has a store like her pet spa is in this location.

[00:09:42] And so we just didn't even recognize she just jumps out of the bushes

[00:09:46] and she goes, give me all your money.

[00:09:48] We both completely froze.

[00:09:51] So we know that we're both useless in the face of anybody have a potty accident.

[00:09:55] No, it was close.

[00:09:57] It's so funny because I was like all the things that went through my head.

[00:10:00] I was like, I guess we didn't move to a very good neighborhood.

[00:10:03] And then like, I can't believe this is happening right now.

[00:10:05] And then as I recognized her, I'm like, wait, it's Cheyenne.

[00:10:08] I'm like, why is Cheyenne robbing us?

[00:10:10] Anyway, she wasn't.

[00:10:13] And so I yeah, she just loves pranks like that.

[00:10:17] And so I was like, fuck you.

[00:10:19] She loved it.

[00:10:19] It was perfect.

[00:10:20] Scared the shit out of us and we've learned nothing.

[00:10:24] And then played.

[00:10:25] Yeah. And John's like, I can't wait to get her back.

[00:10:28] I'm going to like contact her boyfriend so I can get a key to her car

[00:10:31] to like get in the back seat and wait for like, OK, OK.

[00:10:35] Just go to thinking to into this now.

[00:10:37] This is real revenge.

[00:10:39] Oh, my God.

[00:10:40] So funny.

[00:10:42] Anyway, but yeah, things are good.

[00:10:44] We're settling in and.

[00:10:48] You tell me about about you.

[00:10:51] I got nothing else really.

[00:10:52] I'm never going to a hair salon again.

[00:10:55] What happened?

[00:10:56] I you know how I had the blonde like the coleg.

[00:10:58] I was loving it and I went to the hair salon to get my touch up

[00:11:02] because I just want to get the roots done and the gray is coming in, right?

[00:11:05] And I go and I said to her, I'm like, I just want to get my roots done.

[00:11:10] I just want to get the roots done here because I like the color,

[00:11:13] like the blonde, I like everything.

[00:11:14] I don't need to cut it.

[00:11:15] Like it's just keep it simple.

[00:11:17] Keep it cheap. Right.

[00:11:19] Well, I somehow still ended up with a head full of fucking foils.

[00:11:22] She changed the color.

[00:11:23] It turned into this really ashy like it almost looked gray

[00:11:26] and the bill was like almost fucking $400.

[00:11:28] And I was just like, I'm never fucking come.

[00:11:30] I just fucking dyed my hair myself.

[00:11:31] Like two weeks later, I was so fed up.

[00:11:33] I was like, I can see the roots.

[00:11:34] Like I could see and I was like, I just want to be cheaper

[00:11:38] because it's expensive and I'm like, I'm never going to a hair salon again.

[00:11:41] Like it's too expensive.

[00:11:42] It's stupid.

[00:11:43] Like it should not be that much money to have your roots done.

[00:11:48] And she said, well, we have to do.

[00:11:49] I'm like, obviously you're still new.

[00:11:51] You don't know what you're doing.

[00:11:52] No, no, because she wouldn't have done that.

[00:11:54] She wouldn't have charged you that much.

[00:11:57] I was choked and I was like, I'm never going back.

[00:11:59] That really sucks.

[00:12:02] This sucks because you don't have to do it yourself anyway.

[00:12:05] I just bought a box of shit and I did my hair myself.

[00:12:07] I did it black, but it's like faded out a little bit,

[00:12:09] which is nice because it was a little bit too harsh.

[00:12:11] But yeah, I just do my own roots and then maybe like once a year

[00:12:14] I'll go get a trim, but I was like, I don't care.

[00:12:16] The gray is coming in.

[00:12:17] I'm not even like diet.

[00:12:18] I might just like go for it

[00:12:19] because it's like really coming in a lot of spots.

[00:12:21] You can't see it right now, but I can see it where I'm like,

[00:12:24] oh, it's not just like the cute seven.

[00:12:26] It's like 70 underneath and I'm like, oh, fuck, I'm going gray.

[00:12:29] Like do I really want to play that game?

[00:12:32] I know.

[00:12:33] Yeah, I'm finding the same because I'm like, oh shit.

[00:12:36] First of all, I've like tweezed all my little hairs out.

[00:12:39] So now I have hairs this tall everywhere

[00:12:43] that are coming out.

[00:12:43] I'm like, well, walled patch coming in.

[00:12:45] That's awesome.

[00:12:46] Cool, hey?

[00:12:47] And then yeah, I'm like, oh, there's some more gray here.

[00:12:49] Oh, there's more here.

[00:12:50] Oh, it's everywhere.

[00:12:52] Wait?

[00:12:54] Yeah.

[00:12:58] Let's talk about Star Trek.

[00:12:59] Let's talk about season two or season three, episode two

[00:13:03] of Picad.

[00:13:06] Are you ready?

[00:13:12] coming in on Secure Channel.

[00:13:14] Do you know who they are?

[00:13:16] What's this?

[00:14:01] Our pins have character.

[00:14:02] Eat it.

[00:14:03] You nailed it.

[00:14:05] Fansets, their pins have character.

[00:14:07] It's great.

[00:14:07] Thank you.

[00:14:08] They have great pins.

[00:14:09] They're super cute.

[00:14:10] I love the one they put the sparkles on them.

[00:14:12] Oh, me too.

[00:14:13] I like that extra little...

[00:14:15] There's a little razzle-dazzle.

[00:14:21] OK.

[00:14:22] Are you ready?

[00:14:23] We're doing...

[00:14:24] Did you like what we did last time?

[00:14:25] We did the kind of like, in sections?

[00:14:27] I did because like that's...

[00:14:30] Yep.

[00:14:30] Let's do it.

[00:14:31] All right.

[00:14:32] It's as fancy as we get.

[00:14:33] So I'm going to start with part one.

[00:14:35] A flashback already.

[00:14:36] This is the stuff that confuses the shit out of me

[00:14:38] if I'm playing on my phone when a show is on.

[00:14:41] Jack is on the ship and he's bringing medical equipment

[00:14:44] to a planet and they are being boarded for inspection.

[00:14:46] He's working his magic using that British charm.

[00:14:49] And yeah, he's likable.

[00:14:50] I'm digging Jack so far.

[00:14:52] Hamburger face though, the guy who boarded the ship.

[00:14:54] He's not a good guy, not one bit.

[00:14:56] He totally sold out Jack.

[00:14:58] Now it's back to the present.

[00:15:00] The big scary ship is there and Riker and Picard

[00:15:02] are trying to figure out who and what is going on.

[00:15:05] They want to contact them to negotiate

[00:15:06] but that ain't happening.

[00:15:07] They're running out of time and options.

[00:15:09] They feel like all they can do at this point

[00:15:11] is reach out to the Titan for help.

[00:15:13] Shavo is so annoyed and over all of it

[00:15:16] he's barking at seven of nine about helping

[00:15:18] Riker and Picard because they are just a research vessel

[00:15:21] and he's not risking folks' lives for some golden boys.

[00:15:25] Hanson, AKA seven as I see her is dismissed.

[00:15:28] I said dismissed.

[00:15:30] Riker says what we're all thinking, Jack seems familiar.

[00:15:35] The shuttle is lost, the four of them are trapped.

[00:15:37] This is not good.

[00:15:40] What a start.

[00:15:41] Go tell me.

[00:15:43] So first of all, because this isn't streaming anywhere

[00:15:47] anymore and you lent me the Blu-ray discs,

[00:15:50] I watched this on Blu-ray.

[00:15:52] And I just want to just do a little shout out

[00:15:55] thanks for adding episode numbers

[00:15:56] and also disc numbers to your discs.

[00:16:00] Way to go.

[00:16:01] That was really helpful.

[00:16:02] Like not even, not anywhere.

[00:16:04] I'm like, I don't know what episode

[00:16:07] and they're all named anyway.

[00:16:10] We got there.

[00:16:11] So there is an error in part one

[00:16:14] where the computer on Beverly shift scans

[00:16:16] the cool scary ship.

[00:16:18] And it says that it doesn't match any alien vessels

[00:16:21] but that's exactly what an alien vessel is.

[00:16:23] It's something that you don't know.

[00:16:24] Right?

[00:16:25] So I was like, I don't want to be like that person.

[00:16:30] But anyway, also sound doesn't travel in space.

[00:16:35] But for the purposes of I get it,

[00:16:37] when Riker says that there's something familiar

[00:16:40] about Jack, I totally missed that this is a foreshadow

[00:16:43] or very obvious suggestion that he is Picard's son.

[00:16:46] Because I remember watching this the first time

[00:16:48] and crying when they find out that he is his son

[00:16:52] because I knew it was possible, but I didn't know for sure.

[00:16:55] And like the whole idea was that I was like, hey, what's that?

[00:17:00] It was, I was like changing my mental health meds.

[00:17:03] So I was like totally like unstable.

[00:17:07] And I remember like the scene,

[00:17:11] I think it's like one of the last episodes

[00:17:12] where it's like you are my son or whatever

[00:17:14] and I'm like losing my shit.

[00:17:15] And John's looking at me like, you knew,

[00:17:18] you already knew that he was his son.

[00:17:21] Why are you being so surprised?

[00:17:22] And then I was like, I knew, I think I knew,

[00:17:24] but I didn't know for sure.

[00:17:27] And now I'm seeing all of this stuff.

[00:17:29] And also I am much more enjoying Shaw this time around

[00:17:34] because if I take his side,

[00:17:36] his actions make much more sense.

[00:17:39] Like he is a no nonsense starship captain

[00:17:42] who follows the rules.

[00:17:44] I love rules.

[00:17:44] What's my problem?

[00:17:45] Why did I not like him so much?

[00:17:46] Cause he wouldn't let Picard and Riker take their ship

[00:17:50] to the edge of federal space.

[00:17:52] Like, hello, of course he wouldn't.

[00:17:56] Right?

[00:17:57] Oh yeah.

[00:17:58] Oh yeah.

[00:17:59] I mean, he doesn't care.

[00:18:00] He's already ironically calling them like the golden boys

[00:18:03] and like, he's like, I'm fully aware of you too.

[00:18:04] And he's got nicknames for them.

[00:18:06] You know, they are the gods of Starfleet

[00:18:08] to us, to fans who've watched the show.

[00:18:11] But to him, they are a pain in his ass

[00:18:13] that is a huge risk he doesn't want to take.

[00:18:16] And it's fun because it's not a dynamic you see very often

[00:18:19] in Star Trek.

[00:18:20] So it's kind of like a, I don't know.

[00:18:22] It's what captured my attention

[00:18:23] is just him being the last thing you expect.

[00:18:27] You expect everyone to be like, oh my God,

[00:18:30] Admiral Picard's on my ship.

[00:18:32] Like I gotta put up the red carpet

[00:18:34] and like whatever you want, like no questions asked.

[00:18:36] Like that's not really...

[00:18:38] That's not realistic.

[00:18:39] That's how it works, you know?

[00:18:40] Like it's, you know, if your former minister

[00:18:42] of your ministry came waltzing in

[00:18:44] and started like demanding stuff,

[00:18:46] do you think the current person is gonna be like,

[00:18:47] oh yeah, sure, just take over and like no big deal.

[00:18:50] Exactly.

[00:18:51] And I just like Riker so much in this series

[00:18:55] like this season, like just like the little hints

[00:18:57] about, you know, like, looks kind of familiar.

[00:18:59] Like he just, he's given that like the side smile

[00:19:01] on the side eyes, like he's adorable.

[00:19:05] So I'm, and then the ship is so scary.

[00:19:08] And I'm just like, you know, at this point in the show

[00:19:10] like we still don't know who's on it.

[00:19:11] Like what are we expecting?

[00:19:12] So good like buildup of excitement.

[00:19:15] So part two, we're back and it's time for some Rafi

[00:19:19] who is watching a recap of the destruction

[00:19:21] of the red lady thing.

[00:19:22] She's clearly disturbed by it all

[00:19:24] and opens a secure channel to her mystery boss.

[00:19:26] Starfleet is suspending the investigation.

[00:19:29] They think they found the bad guy.

[00:19:30] Rafi doesn't buy it

[00:19:31] and wants to talk to some Ferengi gangster named Snead.

[00:19:34] Her mystery boss wants her to do nothing

[00:19:37] and she wants an in-person meet, which is denied.

[00:19:39] As if we believe that Rafi will back down.

[00:19:41] She's all over it with or without permission.

[00:19:44] Seven throws it at Shaw, but he has an option.

[00:19:47] Be the guy who let legends die

[00:19:49] or be the hero who saved heroes.

[00:19:51] Jack, Riker and Picard are doing what they can

[00:19:54] to stay alive.

[00:19:55] They are setting up barriers

[00:19:56] to avoid folks being beamed away.

[00:19:58] And we learn that Jack is what is wanted

[00:20:00] when they try and transport him away.

[00:20:02] But why?

[00:20:03] This ship is now being boarded.

[00:20:04] Structural integrity is at 22%.

[00:20:07] And the green ghost lover from Bev's past

[00:20:09] is the tractor beam on the mystery bad guy ship.

[00:20:11] It looks like power failure is imminent.

[00:20:14] And then there are movements on the sensors.

[00:20:16] The Titan has arrived and the music is exciting.

[00:20:19] And Shaw is like being them all aboard, whatever.

[00:20:21] We're basically a hotel now.

[00:20:23] They are all being delayed just in time.

[00:20:25] Phasers are drawn and my God,

[00:20:27] I'm vibrating with excitement or sugar

[00:20:29] because I just ate a Cadbury cream egg.

[00:20:32] Your thoughts?

[00:20:35] First of all, did you know that they make

[00:20:37] a single serving Cadbury cream egg?

[00:20:39] That's like this big.

[00:20:40] I call it a single.

[00:20:42] Yeah, no, I also had a cream egg the other day.

[00:20:45] So good.

[00:20:47] How come the voice on the computer to Rafi is female

[00:20:50] and not very cooperative?

[00:20:52] Is it all to teach or educate her

[00:20:53] in the ways of whatever wharf is now genuine question?

[00:20:57] That's what I wrote.

[00:21:00] I appreciate that Beverly's ship has the same operating

[00:21:03] system as the Enterprise.

[00:21:04] The Titan seems to have upgraded systems.

[00:21:07] The Titan comes and dilly-dally's around

[00:21:10] instead of immediately beaming them aboard

[00:21:12] for cinematic effect.

[00:21:14] Accurate, yeah.

[00:21:16] That's, I mean...

[00:21:18] Yeah, I mean it was an exciting scene.

[00:21:20] And the sky is blue.

[00:21:21] Yeah, right?

[00:21:22] Like it was a good setup for the rest of the story

[00:21:25] but there wasn't really anything that crazy in there.

[00:21:26] Like of course Rafi's gonna do what Rafi does.

[00:21:29] She obviously wants to try and do it the right way

[00:21:32] but if she's told no, she's still gonna be like,

[00:21:34] I gotta do what's right.

[00:21:35] So that's not a surprise.

[00:21:36] And Shah, Shah is just like trying to hold on

[00:21:39] for dear life at this point.

[00:21:40] I mean, what was he gonna do?

[00:21:42] He's put in the ultimate pickle like seven said.

[00:21:44] Like are you just gonna like turn your back on these two

[00:21:47] or are you gonna save them?

[00:21:48] Because if you let these two die,

[00:21:50] that's not gonna look good on you.

[00:21:52] Like no matter what the circumstance,

[00:21:53] at the end of the day they are two important people.

[00:21:57] Like a poor guy kind of stuck in that situation.

[00:22:01] But part three, here we go.

[00:22:04] Rafi is back at the party or at the party planet bar

[00:22:07] and is talking to her ex-husband.

[00:22:09] She asks about her son.

[00:22:11] He asks if she's clean

[00:22:12] and she's needing something from him for work reasons.

[00:22:16] She needs an intro to Snead

[00:22:18] because he has connections from where he works.

[00:22:20] Her ex is not liking what he sees, the paranoia,

[00:22:23] the work dragging her into obsession

[00:22:25] and what got her into drugs

[00:22:26] and she would get pushed deeper and deeper

[00:22:28] which pushed her son away.

[00:22:30] It's a really heavy conversation.

[00:22:32] Her ex digs in even more saying he thought

[00:22:34] that she was there to talk about their son

[00:22:35] but he gives her an ultimatum.

[00:22:37] I'll talk to your son for you

[00:22:39] or I'll talk to our son about like for you

[00:22:42] or introduce you to Snead, you have a choice.

[00:22:45] Ugh.

[00:22:46] Back on the ship we learn Bev is now stable

[00:22:48] in the hospital and Shah wants to know

[00:22:50] who they've engaged with.

[00:22:51] They are being hailed and look who it is.

[00:22:53] Oh my God, it's Amanda Plummer.

[00:22:55] She is the most epic actress.

[00:22:57] Shah's sarcasm is on point and instantly

[00:23:00] the villain talks to Picard about the bounty on Jack's head

[00:23:03] and how she is taking him.

[00:23:05] Shah says they don't negotiate with bounty hunters

[00:23:07] and when they realize all weapons the ship has,

[00:23:10] they know they are very unable to fight.

[00:23:13] Oh, running out of time.

[00:23:15] Very unable to fight back

[00:23:17] and they have an hour to hand over Jack.

[00:23:19] Then she throws a ship at them

[00:23:21] and all eyes go to Jack.

[00:23:25] It's amazing that she gives them an hour.

[00:23:26] I would just be like,

[00:23:28] you're here, you have four weeks to handle the Harry Potter.

[00:23:33] Just kill them.

[00:23:34] He is so stupid.

[00:23:36] Just kill him as he walks away.

[00:23:39] Why do you always bring a gun to a knife fight, man?

[00:23:41] Yes, totally.

[00:23:43] Think ahead.

[00:23:45] So my thoughts, I don't really like off-world stuff.

[00:23:50] Not off-world, off ship.

[00:23:52] I only like on-ship things.

[00:23:55] That's sort of my thing.

[00:23:57] Rafi is talking about Gabe with Jay

[00:24:00] and I'm like, who the hell is Gabe?

[00:24:02] And Jon's like, Rafi's son.

[00:24:04] I'm just totally checked out.

[00:24:06] If this conversation was taking place on a ship,

[00:24:09] I'd be right there.

[00:24:11] Also, it was interesting when Bev was like, trust nobody.

[00:24:15] Does that mean Jack too?

[00:24:16] Like don't trust him

[00:24:17] or am I taking that message too literally?

[00:24:19] Probably too literally.

[00:24:21] I think you're taking it too literally.

[00:24:22] I think she trusts no one as in like

[00:24:24] you can't trust anybody in Starfleet to try and help.

[00:24:26] Yeah.

[00:24:28] Yeah, I love how Shalva's like,

[00:24:31] I think it's important for you to know

[00:24:32] that I was having a nice morning before.

[00:24:34] I love him.

[00:24:35] I love the sarcasm.

[00:24:36] So good.

[00:24:37] That's totally something that I would say.

[00:24:38] I could see you saying it.

[00:24:39] Like I just keep saying that.

[00:24:41] Like it's important for you to know that I was up.

[00:24:42] I was having a really nice day before this.

[00:24:44] Yeah.

[00:24:46] Anything else?

[00:24:47] Just Vatic is so scary and awesome and like.

[00:24:50] Yes.

[00:24:52] Did you watch the special feature on the DVD yet

[00:24:54] that's about Amanda Plummer?

[00:24:56] No.

[00:24:56] Oh yeah, you should if you're interested.

[00:24:58] Like she's I am.

[00:24:59] I do like her.

[00:25:00] I don't know anything about her.

[00:25:01] Yeah, she's so talented.

[00:25:03] I'm here for it.

[00:25:05] I think it's going to be an interesting villain.

[00:25:07] The Rafi scene really bugged me

[00:25:08] not just because it was an off off ship scene,

[00:25:11] but like knowing that she's legit and she's clean.

[00:25:15] Like I'm mad that our ex won't like let her

[00:25:17] like is making her have a choice.

[00:25:19] I get that they have history

[00:25:20] and Yadi in the real world that that makes sense.

[00:25:22] You're putting up boundaries

[00:25:23] because you want to protect your family.

[00:25:24] But like when people tell people to choose me

[00:25:28] or choose the job, it's like you knew what you're getting into.

[00:25:31] Like cause you see it and you hear about it all the time

[00:25:33] with people who work like cops or doctors.

[00:25:37] Yeah.

[00:25:38] They're holding it against me

[00:25:38] that suddenly there's surprise that I work all these hours.

[00:25:40] Like I was in this job

[00:25:41] where I was working towards this when you met me.

[00:25:43] Like you can't do that.

[00:25:45] Like especially when it's something like this

[00:25:47] where the light lives are on the line.

[00:25:50] Like but then again, you know,

[00:25:51] history of I've never dated somebody

[00:25:53] who had paranoia and drug issues.

[00:25:54] So it's hard to say.

[00:25:55] But I just, it does upset me

[00:25:57] cause like we know the truth about that Rafi is legit

[00:25:59] and she's doing her best.

[00:26:00] And I'm just like, just give her what she needs.

[00:26:01] Take her to sleep already.

[00:26:03] Yeah.

[00:26:04] He sounds like a character

[00:26:05] out of like Lord of the Rings or something.

[00:26:06] I know.

[00:26:07] Oh, you know, you're thinking of Smead from Cook.

[00:26:10] I mean, hook.

[00:26:13] Too many hooks.

[00:26:14] Oh my God.

[00:26:15] All right.

[00:26:16] We've got six minutes.

[00:26:18] Oh, okay.

[00:26:19] We might have to take a pause,

[00:26:21] but we'll see what we can do.

[00:26:23] We can do it.

[00:26:24] Shaw with his hand over his eyes

[00:26:26] is me at work all the time.

[00:26:28] We are cornered in space where there are no corners.

[00:26:32] Riker and the part are trying to get info from Jack

[00:26:34] and Shaw comes in showing all the deets on Jack

[00:26:37] and his multiple personas and how he's wanted.

[00:26:40] He sends them to the brig

[00:26:41] and relief seven of duty for insubordination.

[00:26:45] Shaw is ready to send Jack to them

[00:26:47] and just give him up.

[00:26:48] But Riker is arguing that they can't,

[00:26:49] but Shaw says they don't stand a chance

[00:26:51] and now Riker's yelling at Picard about seeing what I'm seeing

[00:26:54] and obviously referring to Jack being his son.

[00:26:57] Picard goes to him in the brig and they talk, argue

[00:27:00] and there's 18 minutes left to figure out

[00:27:02] what to do with Jack.

[00:27:04] Rafi makes her way to a club to see Smead

[00:27:06] played by Aaron Stanford, who was pyro in the X-Men film

[00:27:09] and in a few episodes of Fear the Walking Dead.

[00:27:11] I like him.

[00:27:12] He likes retro human things.

[00:27:14] And I think that baseball is definitely a nod

[00:27:16] to Cisco from Beat Space Nine.

[00:27:18] Smead thinks she's section 31

[00:27:20] and wants her to take drugs to prove she's not.

[00:27:22] She doesn't hesitate and insists she works

[00:27:24] for Toluco, the Romulan, but Toluco is dead

[00:27:28] because Smead has his head.

[00:27:30] Rafi stabs Smead in the hand and all

[00:27:33] and she's all high and shit is hitting the fan

[00:27:36] and she passes out while Worf comes to her rescue.

[00:27:40] Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God

[00:27:41] the flowing long white hair.

[00:27:42] He looks so good.

[00:27:43] He is her mystery boss.

[00:27:45] Dude, Hailey, what do you think?

[00:27:48] I wrote Worf and then more on world crap.

[00:27:52] So I tuned out.

[00:27:53] Oh no.

[00:27:55] But it is like, so amazing.

[00:27:59] I know, I just wrote like, Worf baby,

[00:28:01] he's back and he's fucking kicking ass already.

[00:28:03] I'm so stoked.

[00:28:04] Okay, it's a great scene.

[00:28:06] Smead needs a TV show.

[00:28:07] Can we get like a gritty, dark HBO drama

[00:28:10] Star Trek series?

[00:28:12] Why not?

[00:28:13] Of all like anything not Starfleet related

[00:28:15] but like all the places like on the outskirts

[00:28:18] because it's pretty bad ass, pretty sketchy.

[00:28:21] I think it'd be kind of fun.

[00:28:22] Totally, totally.

[00:28:23] Right, let's do this.

[00:28:24] Let's write it ourselves.

[00:28:25] I'll send the script to Terry and maybe he'll be on it.

[00:28:28] Terry if you're listening, I got an idea.

[00:28:30] Terry we know you're listening.

[00:28:32] We know you're listening.

[00:28:33] So just hear us out.

[00:28:33] Come on, you wouldn't want to listen to this stuff.

[00:28:35] This is gold.

[00:28:36] This is comedy, no this sucks.

[00:28:39] Okay, part five.

[00:28:44] Picard goes to Shaw and wants to discuss

[00:28:45] a course of action and Shaw is snippy.

[00:28:47] He's definitely grumpy and not interested

[00:28:49] in hearing much of anything.

[00:28:51] Rough day at the office.

[00:28:52] Jack Crusher manages to escape the brig

[00:28:54] and Riker goes to Bev and wakes her up

[00:28:56] despite the doctor's warning that she's sedated

[00:28:58] and needs to rest.

[00:29:00] That it comes back on screen

[00:29:01] and tells us that her ship is named the Shrike.

[00:29:04] Oh, love it after a bird.

[00:29:06] And she's going to pick away at them.

[00:29:08] Her TikTok talk totally has me thinking

[00:29:10] back to her character on the Hunger Games.

[00:29:12] TikTok, TikTok, TikTok, TikTok.

[00:29:14] Security alert, escape from the brig.

[00:29:16] Everyone's looking for Jack now.

[00:29:17] Seven finds him and they are phaser to phaser.

[00:29:20] He wants to give himself up to save his mother

[00:29:22] and Shaw is like, fuck and let him.

[00:29:24] And Riker shows up, Bev and toe injured in week

[00:29:26] and she gives Picard a look that screams, yeah, that's your kid.

[00:29:30] And they put Vatik on screen

[00:29:31] and Picard steps up and says, engage.

[00:29:34] They fire on the ship.

[00:29:35] Vatik laughs.

[00:29:36] It's a giddy and creepiest fuck.

[00:29:38] And she says to follow them

[00:29:39] and my video cut out because I was watching

[00:29:41] what was on my PBR so I didn't see the very end

[00:29:43] but I hope that that's the end.

[00:29:45] Oh yeah, pretty much, pretty much.

[00:29:50] Here's some questions.

[00:29:51] Why did they use the boat swain whistle,

[00:29:53] the captain on deck?

[00:29:56] Yeah, instead of like when he called for red alert.

[00:30:00] I was like, that's not the right.

[00:30:03] Also Shaw is so great for standing up with right.

[00:30:05] Fuck you Jean-Luc rules are rules.

[00:30:09] And then Picard does say that he is his son

[00:30:14] and I don't remember that from the before times.

[00:30:17] Yep.

[00:30:18] So that is that.

[00:30:20] Yeah, what an episode.

[00:30:21] I mean for episode two,

[00:30:24] like we already have confirmation that this is his son.

[00:30:27] We see Bev up in a wake, we see Worf.

[00:30:31] Like it's like they're just,

[00:30:34] this is like a throwing you into deep end

[00:30:36] like already for episode two.

[00:30:38] Like-

[00:30:39] It's huge.

[00:30:39] Talk about hooking me in.

[00:30:41] Poor Shaw.

[00:30:42] He just wants to go on vacation at this point.

[00:30:43] He's so over it.

[00:30:45] I know he's like-

[00:30:46] He's so too bad.

[00:30:47] I know totally he's got something coming.

[00:30:49] I don't think he's gonna be able to go on his vacation.

[00:30:55] So good.

[00:30:57] I think we're gonna have to,

[00:30:59] realistically pause and come back to this

[00:31:01] if that's all right.

[00:31:02] That's all right with me?

[00:31:03] Cool, cool, cool.

[00:31:05] Well, any other thoughts then on the episode

[00:31:08] in our final two minutes

[00:31:09] and then we'll take a bio break.

[00:31:12] Bio break.

[00:31:14] Bio break.

[00:31:16] With Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod.

[00:31:18] I love, I just,

[00:31:21] I'm so happy to be rewatching this.

[00:31:23] It's such a great season.

[00:31:26] I like already knowing the story.

[00:31:27] So I don't have to,

[00:31:28] like when the gravity well happens

[00:31:31] I'm like really nervous

[00:31:32] that they weren't gonna make it out.

[00:31:34] Like even John was saying

[00:31:35] like when we watched this last time

[00:31:36] he was like, I'm not sure

[00:31:38] all of these characters are gonna make it.

[00:31:40] And I just thought like, holy shit.

[00:31:43] That can't be true.

[00:31:45] That can't be true.

[00:31:46] Yeah.

[00:31:47] And was it true?

[00:31:48] We'll find out.

[00:31:49] It wasn't true.

[00:31:51] Or was it?

[00:31:52] Right.

[00:31:54] I just, this is a great season.

[00:31:57] It is the missing season of TNG.

[00:32:00] It's all the movies that we wanted in,

[00:32:03] in perfectly captured

[00:32:06] in three unlabeled Blu-ray discs.

[00:32:10] Totally.

[00:32:11] Thanks for getting them from the street,

[00:32:12] but that helped.

[00:32:15] It's also, I'm glad you did.

[00:32:17] It's my fear that I will one day down.

[00:32:19] So I don't really download Torrens and stuff.

[00:32:21] But if I did,

[00:32:23] one of my fears is that there's gonna be like

[00:32:25] some sort of like real murder

[00:32:28] that I'm gonna see.

[00:32:29] Oh, like a snuff.

[00:32:30] Someone sliced, yeah,

[00:32:31] some sort of snuff in the middle of it.

[00:32:33] And I'm gonna be forced to,

[00:32:34] like I will straight up watch an autopsy

[00:32:36] while I'm eating lunch,

[00:32:38] but I cannot be surprised

[00:32:40] by some real murdery stuff.

[00:32:42] Anyway, that said,

[00:32:44] wanna go pee?

[00:32:45] I would, I can't wait.

[00:32:47] I might even just make myself a little cocktail.

[00:32:49] It's five o'clock.

[00:32:50] I think it should.

[00:32:50] I'm gonna get a fake beer

[00:32:51] because that's who I am now.

[00:32:53] I love it.

[00:32:54] Also, we'll talk about that

[00:32:55] when we get to some of these.

[00:32:56] Woo!

[00:32:57] Yes, we will talk when we get back.

[00:32:59] All right.

[00:33:00] Bye.

[00:33:01] Okay, bye, call me back.

[00:33:08] Summarize your meeting with AI companion.

[00:33:10] Try for free.

[00:33:11] Could you imagine what,

[00:33:12] what would an AI say about this terrible podcast?

[00:33:17] Don't quit your day job, ladies.

[00:33:20] Well, two white women bitch and complain about,

[00:33:24] oh God, I can't even imagine.

[00:33:26] I don't wanna know.

[00:33:27] Can't even.

[00:33:28] Apparently though,

[00:33:29] we don't have to do that little waiting game

[00:33:30] that Zoom was doing there for a while.

[00:33:31] So that's appreciated.

[00:33:36] Not appreciated.

[00:33:37] The six spam robo phone calls I got this morning,

[00:33:41] I have my phone actually set

[00:33:43] that it will not take a phone call

[00:33:45] if I don't have the number in my contact.

[00:33:46] So it goes right to my phone

[00:33:47] and I had four voicemails of saying

[00:33:48] that my social insurance number was compromised.

[00:33:51] And then I got another email of a fake invoice

[00:33:55] for $900 US on PayPal.

[00:33:58] So I'm just like,

[00:33:59] I'm gonna just cancel my PayPal account.

[00:34:00] Like I know it's spam,

[00:34:01] like I know it's not a thing,

[00:34:02] but I'm just like,

[00:34:02] I don't even want,

[00:34:03] like I never use it anyways.

[00:34:04] Like I can't,

[00:34:05] I canceled mine.

[00:34:06] Nope.

[00:34:08] That is so frustrating.

[00:34:10] I hate those robo calls.

[00:34:12] I wanted to do the same thing with my phone settings,

[00:34:15] but I have this fear that someone will be injured

[00:34:18] and we'll be calling from a hospital

[00:34:20] and they can't get ahold of me

[00:34:21] and then the-

[00:34:22] I think it's a good thing if it's an emergency.

[00:34:26] Right?

[00:34:27] I have issues with voicemails.

[00:34:29] There you got some issues.

[00:34:32] That's okay.

[00:34:33] I got issues.

[00:34:36] What are you having for dinner tonight?

[00:34:38] So here's-

[00:34:39] Just take a hot pot.

[00:34:40] We've got time now.

[00:34:41] What am I gonna eat?

[00:34:43] I have options,

[00:34:45] but I think what I'm gonna make

[00:34:46] is cauliflower taco bowls.

[00:34:48] So it's roasted the budget bite.

[00:34:51] I don't know if you know her website,

[00:34:53] budget bites,

[00:34:54] BYTES.

[00:34:57] It's roasted cauliflower with like cumin

[00:35:00] and like spices and stuff like that.

[00:35:01] And then you make some rice on the side

[00:35:03] and then you fry up some like black beans

[00:35:07] with cumin seeds

[00:35:08] or you can use refried beans

[00:35:10] and then I make like a little coleslaw

[00:35:11] with some chipotle mayo

[00:35:12] and like a little corn salad

[00:35:14] with a little cojita cheese.

[00:35:16] And you just like put it all in a bowl

[00:35:18] and eat it.

[00:35:19] And I think that's what we're gonna make

[00:35:21] or what I'm gonna make

[00:35:22] and we're gonna eat.

[00:35:23] Love it.

[00:35:24] You?

[00:35:25] It's good.

[00:35:26] I think I'm gonna do butter chicken tonight.

[00:35:27] Mm.

[00:35:28] That's good.

[00:35:29] Yeah.

[00:35:30] Yeah.

[00:35:31] What do you do for the sauce?

[00:35:33] Do you make it from scratch?

[00:35:34] No.

[00:35:35] What kind do you like?

[00:35:37] I just,

[00:35:37] I had one of those jars hanging out from Costco.

[00:35:40] Nice.

[00:35:41] I'm just gonna use that.

[00:35:42] But I would like to make my own.

[00:35:45] You could easily, very easily make your own.

[00:35:48] Oh yeah.

[00:35:49] Not much to it.

[00:35:50] You just need like four rutabagas,

[00:35:53] two cups of ketchup

[00:35:55] and what is it?

[00:35:56] Buttermilk.

[00:35:57] Is that right?

[00:35:58] Yeah.

[00:35:59] And you can make your own buttermilk.

[00:36:02] And then for that you need like a bunch of radishes.

[00:36:05] I need some celery salt and mayo.

[00:36:11] Yeah.

[00:36:12] It helps to be the no name round.

[00:36:14] Okay, what's Sarah?

[00:36:16] They have extra.

[00:36:17] They have extra.

[00:36:19] What was I gonna say of something about food?

[00:36:21] I didn't get my drink so I'm gonna get a drink.

[00:36:24] Is that a lucky or a Budweiser?

[00:36:26] It's a lucky.

[00:36:28] You're so lucky.

[00:36:31] Here's nine.

[00:36:33] Oh.

[00:36:34] Upside down.

[00:36:37] Craft.

[00:36:40] It's actually pretty good.

[00:36:41] You know, I never thought I would drink like fake beer

[00:36:43] but it's like fine.

[00:36:44] Yeah.

[00:36:45] It's a drink.

[00:36:47] What's the whistle as they say?

[00:36:49] It does.

[00:36:53] We're almost finished.

[00:36:54] Are you watching some Devanarchy?

[00:36:56] Where are you?

[00:36:57] We had Donal Lowe come and go

[00:36:59] which was just, oh.

[00:37:01] Oh no, that's it.

[00:37:02] I think it's a different guy.

[00:37:04] Long hair, leetoric.

[00:37:07] Leetoric.

[00:37:08] Clay's dead.

[00:37:09] Clay just died.

[00:37:10] Spoiler alert.

[00:37:11] That was it.

[00:37:12] That's the episode we just watched.

[00:37:13] She's gone.

[00:37:13] So you know what's happening soon to Tara?

[00:37:17] Not good.

[00:37:18] Aggressive hair cutting.

[00:37:21] Aggressive dishwashing scene.

[00:37:25] That's not how you wash the dishes

[00:37:27] with someone who's a carving fork.

[00:37:29] Yeah.

[00:37:30] That's such an intense series.

[00:37:33] I know.

[00:37:35] Yeah, it's been kind of fun doing a rewatch

[00:37:36] like just because it's mindless

[00:37:38] and we can just play on our phones while we have it on

[00:37:40] and I don't know what I'm gonna put on after.

[00:37:43] I watched a movie that was one of the ones

[00:37:45] that was up for the Oscar for,

[00:37:48] I know the woman won best supporting actress

[00:37:52] and Paul Giamatti was up for an Oscar.

[00:37:55] It was called The Holdovers.

[00:37:57] It's a very sweet movie.

[00:37:58] It's a very quiet, calm, like,

[00:38:00] it's really good.

[00:38:02] It takes place in the 70s

[00:38:04] and Paul Giamatti is a professor,

[00:38:07] a cantankerous professor that nobody likes

[00:38:09] at an all-boys school for rich kids

[00:38:13] and he got tasked with the unfortunate job

[00:38:16] of having to watch the five kids

[00:38:18] that don't get to go home for Christmas

[00:38:21] because their parents are vacationing or whatever

[00:38:23] and it's like...

[00:38:24] Yes they do.

[00:38:25] And it's kind of like a coming of age,

[00:38:26] like a very sweet to, you know,

[00:38:28] awkward people being put together

[00:38:30] and he's trying to give all the rules to the boys

[00:38:32] but they're like, we're on Christmas vacation

[00:38:34] and it's good.

[00:38:35] I liked it a lot.

[00:38:36] Brad didn't look for it, but whatever.

[00:38:38] Have you seen Poor Things?

[00:38:40] No, me neither.

[00:38:43] I don't know if I really want to.

[00:38:44] I don't know either.

[00:38:46] It looks like a Wes Anderson film

[00:38:47] and I'm not a big fan of Wes Anderson films

[00:38:49] like artsy, colorful, weird movies.

[00:38:54] I have a real soft spot for Wes Anderson.

[00:39:01] Movie, House, that's what we're watching.

[00:39:05] We're watching House?

[00:39:06] That was not age 12.

[00:39:08] That's a throwback.

[00:39:11] So it's like...

[00:39:12] It is not good.

[00:39:14] I remember thinking like...

[00:39:16] I thought they had medical staff on their writers

[00:39:18] like when they were doing the show

[00:39:19] because they rely so heavily

[00:39:22] on all of the components of a health system

[00:39:24] to support the show going forward and stuff

[00:39:28] and I'm just filling the space while you've walked away.

[00:39:31] Sorry, Jack vomited while you were back outside.

[00:39:34] Oh God, you have to...

[00:39:36] He barfed outside just like 10 minutes ago

[00:39:38] and then I closed the window because it's cold

[00:39:40] and now he wants to walk out.

[00:39:42] Oh my God, because he wants to eat the barf.

[00:39:44] Anyway, House, it doesn't work.

[00:39:46] It's not great especially binge watching it

[00:39:49] because it doesn't...

[00:39:51] Now when Wilson and Cuddy show up,

[00:39:54] it's almost like a sitcom where it's like

[00:39:58] the people from down the hall are coming

[00:40:00] and rambling on about the same shit

[00:40:02] and it's just kind of like, oh, this isn't very good.

[00:40:05] I feel like it would have been a really good show

[00:40:06] if they committed to three seasons of good storytelling

[00:40:10] and then just been like, that's it.

[00:40:11] Just keep it simple.

[00:40:12] Keep it simple.

[00:40:14] No one hooks up with anyone.

[00:40:15] You just keep the sexual attention.

[00:40:17] You keep the banter.

[00:40:19] You get the shtick.

[00:40:19] He's an asshole.

[00:40:20] In real life, it would never last.

[00:40:22] So let's have him go out with a bang, right?

[00:40:25] Like just...

[00:40:26] Because it's a good idea for a show.

[00:40:27] He did a fantastic job as a British actor.

[00:40:31] Like it was really good but...

[00:40:32] Yeah, but yeah, it doesn't...

[00:40:36] It's not great and it's not smart

[00:40:37] especially like since John and I both know

[00:40:40] how healthcare settings work

[00:40:43] and I'm like that wouldn't be a saying

[00:40:44] and that's not gonna happen.

[00:40:46] Yeah, anyway.

[00:40:48] But yeah, we're also watching Showgun on Netflix.

[00:40:54] Oh, is that good?

[00:40:56] It's so far.

[00:40:57] We've only seen two episodes.

[00:40:58] It's very well done.

[00:41:02] Kind of like more serious, right?

[00:41:03] So like you wanna kind of...

[00:41:05] I don't know, I just wanna watch something serious.

[00:41:09] I don't know what else we're watching.

[00:41:11] Netflix has one of those new shows

[00:41:13] that's like unsolved weird mysteries or something

[00:41:15] and I watched a couple of those

[00:41:16] in their classic like, you know

[00:41:18] The Mysteries of Mount Shasta

[00:41:20] or this specific alien abduction

[00:41:22] or this haunted plantation or whatever.

[00:41:25] And I was like, what's haunted plantation?

[00:41:27] Are you still like keeping up with Oak Island?

[00:41:31] What's going on there?

[00:41:33] Nothing?

[00:41:34] You know what?

[00:41:35] I don't think they're gonna find anything.

[00:41:36] After seven years of filing.

[00:41:38] It's still on the PBR.

[00:41:39] It's still recording but I haven't watched it.

[00:41:42] Oh God.

[00:41:42] No, I spend my time watching Pickleball.

[00:41:46] I watched the Miami Open tennis Formula One.

[00:41:51] Sports can never let you down

[00:41:53] because you just pick a side to watch

[00:41:55] and you'll watch it.

[00:41:55] There's no drama.

[00:41:56] Well, sometimes there's drama.

[00:41:58] That's true.

[00:41:59] Bertusi, remember when he pushed that guy

[00:42:02] and then he cried?

[00:42:04] Yeah.

[00:42:04] Yeah.

[00:42:05] I get to work on the FIFA stuff.

[00:42:07] FIFA is coming to Vancouver so...

[00:42:10] Yeah.

[00:42:11] And John might show Prince Harry around one of our units,

[00:42:15] our medical unit because the Invictus Games

[00:42:18] are coming to Whistler next year.

[00:42:20] And he wants a tour of this mobile medical unit

[00:42:22] and John's like, oh, I might meet Prince Harry.

[00:42:25] I'm like, I wanna go only if Megan's there though.

[00:42:28] She probably won't be.

[00:42:29] If you wanna talk about suits.

[00:42:30] I wanna be like, you know what?

[00:42:32] I've already practiced this.

[00:42:33] If I ever run into her or whatever,

[00:42:35] I'm gonna, and this will not be good for her.

[00:42:38] It doesn't matter.

[00:42:39] I wanna be like, do you know that I bought like four

[00:42:42] pencil skirts and like a bunch of tops

[00:42:44] to try and look like Rachel?

[00:42:46] And I never wore them because they never fit.

[00:42:48] And I think you did a great job as Rachel.

[00:42:50] That's how, that's what's gonna happen.

[00:42:52] That's what I practiced.

[00:42:55] That's the interaction these people crave for really.

[00:42:59] That's what they want when they're in public.

[00:43:01] They wanna be accosted by somebody and then told that.

[00:43:06] Yeah.

[00:43:08] All right.

[00:43:09] IMDb?

[00:43:10] Yeah.

[00:43:12] You wanna go first?

[00:43:14] Sure, there's not much out there.

[00:43:17] I did a little bit of a research

[00:43:19] for some extra little deep dives,

[00:43:21] but this was more of an action packed episode.

[00:43:23] A little few less Easter eggs I think,

[00:43:25] but by the way, here we go.

[00:43:28] Amanda Plummer who plays Vatican

[00:43:29] is the daughter of the late actor Christopher Plummer.

[00:43:32] Oh, from Sound of Music.

[00:43:34] Sexiest character ever.

[00:43:37] Captain Von Trapp.

[00:43:38] Ooh.

[00:43:39] He played General Chang in Star Trek,

[00:43:43] Discovered Country.

[00:43:44] Yes.

[00:43:45] Elements of his character were worked

[00:43:46] into Vatican's performance,

[00:43:47] including the order to display her ship's power

[00:43:50] by a finger wave.

[00:43:52] Well, that's very cool.

[00:43:54] That cute.

[00:43:55] I like that.

[00:43:57] I know.

[00:43:59] So cool.

[00:44:00] What a cool family.

[00:44:02] Totally Canadians too.

[00:44:04] I had no idea.

[00:44:05] Aw, that makes them like slightly less cooler

[00:44:08] to be for some reason,

[00:44:09] even though I am Canadian.

[00:44:11] Vatican's ship is equipped with isolytic burst warheads,

[00:44:15] which are the same subspace weapons

[00:44:16] used by the Sun, Sona.

[00:44:20] Sona?

[00:44:21] Sona?

[00:44:22] I can't remember how it was pronounced.

[00:44:23] Yeah.

[00:44:24] Insurrection, which are said to be outlawed

[00:44:27] by the second Kittomer Accords.

[00:44:31] That makes sense because an enemy,

[00:44:36] so to speak, would use whatever the hell they wanted,

[00:44:39] legal or not, and more likely illegal.

[00:44:42] I mean, that ship that she's got is like hardcore.

[00:44:48] Yeah.

[00:44:49] It is so sharp looking.

[00:44:53] I don't know what to say.

[00:44:54] Yeah, it looks not practical, but very bad at.

[00:44:59] What's the wind resistance like on that?

[00:45:02] One of the charges against Jack

[00:45:04] is actual terrorism on Bynar III.

[00:45:06] This is a rare reference to the Bynar system

[00:45:09] whose inhabitants have their minds linked by a computer

[00:45:11] and communicate in binary code in 11001001, 1988.

[00:45:17] The Enterprise D docs at a star base

[00:45:19] for the Bynar's hijacked enterprise.

[00:45:25] Cool.

[00:45:27] The music heard when Worf appears

[00:45:28] is the Klingon battle seam

[00:45:30] heard at the beginning of Star Trek,

[00:45:31] the motion picture 1979.

[00:45:34] That's a good choice, right?

[00:45:40] Aft.

[00:45:45] You get the last one.

[00:45:48] This episode contains several references

[00:45:50] to the sci-fi channel series 12 Monkeys 2015.

[00:45:53] Todd Stashwick, Captain Shaw,

[00:45:55] played the character of Deakin in that series,

[00:45:57] the main character of which James Cole,

[00:45:59] one of the atlases used by Jack Crusher is.

[00:46:02] In 12 Monkeys, the part of James Cole

[00:46:04] was played by Aaron Stanford,

[00:46:06] who played Snead in this episode.

[00:46:07] What?

[00:46:08] Finally, the drug Snead gives,

[00:46:10] that the drug that Snead gives Rafi is called Splinter

[00:46:13] because it feels like it pulls you apart

[00:46:15] and puts you back together over and over.

[00:46:16] In 12 Monkeys, the process of time travel used

[00:46:18] was called Splintering for the same reason.

[00:46:21] Well, how about that?

[00:46:23] Now do you think that that's a real thing

[00:46:25] that was done intentionally

[00:46:28] or that people are just finding out as coincidence?

[00:46:34] I think that there's a lot of 12 Monkeys references

[00:46:36] in this series because Terry Mattalis

[00:46:38] was the showrunner for that.

[00:46:40] That makes sense.

[00:46:41] And so a lot of people that are guest stars were...

[00:46:43] Oh, the sci-fi series, sorry.

[00:46:45] I was gonna get confused with the movie.

[00:46:47] Yeah, different.

[00:46:48] Oh yeah, that's a Brad Pitt movie, right?

[00:46:50] 12 Monkeys.

[00:46:51] Yeah, I think so.

[00:46:52] But yeah, I've never seen the series.

[00:46:52] I really wanna see it, but I can't find it anywhere to watch.

[00:46:55] My brother told me that 12 Monkeys is about

[00:46:58] monkeys that take over a cruise ship.

[00:47:00] Like...

[00:47:01] I was like, that sounds good.

[00:47:04] And then I found out it wasn't about that at all.

[00:47:12] Yeah, that's all I found.

[00:47:13] I didn't buy any goofs or anything.

[00:47:14] I mean, you found goofs.

[00:47:15] You were like calling them out

[00:47:17] on the whole alien ship thing.

[00:47:19] Well, that's more like errors.

[00:47:20] You can either buy it or...

[00:47:21] So someone...

[00:47:22] I should.

[00:47:24] Oh my God.

[00:47:25] And I didn't see any other Easter eggs personally,

[00:47:30] except for the baseball, obviously.

[00:47:33] I saw that with Snead.

[00:47:34] He also had apparently in the background,

[00:47:39] you can find a copy of the Rules of Acquisition.

[00:47:42] And you can also find one of the gold grand Nagas heads

[00:47:46] hanging out on his shelf.

[00:47:47] So I guess if people did a pause

[00:47:48] and did a close look, you'd see that.

[00:47:51] But I liked that scene.

[00:47:53] Like, I think like you,

[00:47:56] I never really cared for the off ship stuff

[00:47:59] because usually it was just like,

[00:48:01] what random things gonna happen

[00:48:03] to kind of propel the story, right?

[00:48:04] Like get back on the ship.

[00:48:05] But with Picard, I've really enjoyed

[00:48:08] almost the majority of stuff.

[00:48:10] Like I really liked that episode from season one,

[00:48:12] the Stardust City rag or whatever.

[00:48:15] And it was when he looked like,

[00:48:17] one guy looked like he had like a suit suit on

[00:48:18] and they were at the bar.

[00:48:19] And I liked the bar scenes a lot.

[00:48:21] And like when they went back and saw

[00:48:22] the Goldberg's character, Guy Nen at her bar.

[00:48:25] And you see like, I like the scary dark side of space.

[00:48:31] It's the same with when Discovery went into the future, right?

[00:48:34] And you see like he's like really crazy wild.

[00:48:36] Like there's gangs, there's like known bad guys.

[00:48:40] And so for someone like Rafi

[00:48:42] who is in Starfleet Intelligence,

[00:48:45] obviously you're gonna walk that fine line

[00:48:47] of being in Starfleet

[00:48:50] and being undercover or whatever the case is.

[00:48:52] And for her to have a husband or an ex-husband

[00:48:55] who is very much just like a non Starfleet person.

[00:49:00] I'm just a regular dude,

[00:49:01] I work at a bar or a nightclub or whatever he does.

[00:49:03] And you're like on that planet,

[00:49:05] like there's billions of planets where you could do business.

[00:49:08] And you're on one that seems to have

[00:49:10] a lot of people using drugs.

[00:49:13] You got sketchy sneeds in every corner.

[00:49:15] You've got gangsters.

[00:49:16] Like why are you choosing to work there?

[00:49:18] Why don't you work at a bar within Starfleet territory?

[00:49:23] Or why would you, it's just interesting

[00:49:25] because it's such a whole world that they never talk about.

[00:49:28] And there's been how many different TV shows

[00:49:30] and movies of Star Trek?

[00:49:31] Like you really don't get that dark side of like,

[00:49:34] yeah once you step outside the safe zone, man

[00:49:37] like people are fucking doing drugs and running gangs

[00:49:41] and living on the fringe

[00:49:42] and doing whatever they wanna do.

[00:49:44] And they're way scarier than you.

[00:49:46] And you're a joke.

[00:49:47] It makes me think of too like the Star Trek movie

[00:49:49] with Chris Pine and he goes to the bar at the beginning

[00:49:52] and they're like, get out of your Starfleet.

[00:49:53] Like you're fucking nerd, right?

[00:49:55] And it's like, at the end of the day,

[00:49:57] they are all straight laced fucking goody two shoes,

[00:50:01] smart nerds.

[00:50:03] Like I'd never be in Starfleet.

[00:50:05] Like I'm not, like if it was me as me,

[00:50:07] like I'm not gonna be a fucking doctor.

[00:50:10] Like I know you.

[00:50:12] I know me.

[00:50:15] I know me.

[00:50:16] I'll be like you.

[00:50:18] I'll help decorate the ship.

[00:50:19] Here we go.

[00:50:20] I cleaned the fucking fish tank behind the cars.

[00:50:24] Yeah.

[00:50:28] Oh man.

[00:50:30] Yeah.

[00:50:31] Yeah.

[00:50:32] So I kind of like that scene.

[00:50:33] Like I like the Snead character

[00:50:35] and you get like the sketchy, scary Ferengi

[00:50:38] and then to have Worf come in

[00:50:41] and just like chop his head off.

[00:50:43] Like it was so good.

[00:50:43] And you're just like, okay, I like,

[00:50:45] I can get with this.

[00:50:46] Like a few more of those scenes would be pretty cool.

[00:50:48] Yeah.

[00:50:49] Yeah.

[00:50:50] Oh yeah.

[00:50:51] That's true.

[00:50:52] Like, yeah, I shouldn't knock off ship stuff.

[00:50:55] I mean, I just feel like it's more exciting

[00:50:59] when it's on the ship but.

[00:51:00] So think back to when you first watched this

[00:51:03] and you finished this episode

[00:51:04] and you've now found out that one,

[00:51:07] Jack is in fact, Picard's son.

[00:51:11] And two, we have found out

[00:51:12] that nobody has heard from Dr. Crusher for 20 years.

[00:51:19] Did you have any thoughts about like,

[00:51:20] what was her reasoning?

[00:51:21] Was it just to be protective

[00:51:23] or did it trigger anything for you?

[00:51:26] I had zero idea because to me

[00:51:29] and even still it looks like she went bad, right?

[00:51:32] Like she's got dark hair now.

[00:51:36] She's got this sort of, she's killing a dude stuff.

[00:51:40] The fact that she hadn't talked to anybody

[00:51:41] and that like no one knew what happened to her,

[00:51:45] I figured something happened.

[00:51:49] I still don't think I got my head around the fact

[00:51:51] that Jack is Picard's son at this juncture.

[00:51:56] I feel like I must have blanked on that.

[00:51:58] Otherwise I wouldn't have been so upset later on.

[00:52:00] Like I was just finding out.

[00:52:02] Like what's wrong with you?

[00:52:06] But yeah, it's all kind of,

[00:52:08] did you have any sort of thoughts?

[00:52:10] Like I...

[00:52:12] No, cause like knowing how the show plays out

[00:52:14] and what her story is when she talks to Picard about it,

[00:52:17] like that aside, at the time I was kind of like,

[00:52:21] I didn't know what to think because like you said,

[00:52:24] when you watch that opening of the first episode

[00:52:27] and she's just like rolling around all bad ass,

[00:52:29] like shooting people and she's like putting up

[00:52:31] a fucking fight.

[00:52:32] She looks different.

[00:52:33] She's not on a ship that looks like Starfleet.

[00:52:36] I was like, who is this version of her?

[00:52:39] Because she was as Starfleet as they come.

[00:52:43] You know?

[00:52:43] And so to be like, and then to hear everyone say like,

[00:52:46] oh, I haven't heard from her either.

[00:52:47] I was like, okay, this is weird.

[00:52:49] And I never put, when they make the explanation,

[00:52:52] like as to why, like it makes sense in some ways to me.

[00:52:54] It still seems a bit extreme in my opinion, but like...

[00:52:56] Yeah.

[00:52:57] Yeah, it was just kind of like after,

[00:52:59] I just remember thinking after I watched this episode

[00:53:01] I was like doing the finger count.

[00:53:03] I'm like, okay, okay, we saw Warf.

[00:53:04] Like where's Troy?

[00:53:06] Where's Jordy?

[00:53:07] Like where's the rest of them, right?

[00:53:08] So that's where I started getting itchy being like,

[00:53:10] cause I want them in all the episodes the whole time.

[00:53:13] I want...

[00:53:14] I know, totally.

[00:53:15] But it worked out well.

[00:53:16] Like it was still like, you know,

[00:53:18] like Riker already made reference.

[00:53:19] Like there's a problem at home and I'm just like, uh-oh.

[00:53:22] And then he's like, I like that seven.

[00:53:24] And I'm like, ooh, as much as I kind of like

[00:53:26] the seven and Rafi pairing, I'm like seven and Riker.

[00:53:31] That's a wedding I'd like to go to.

[00:53:33] Yeah, I wanna see that.

[00:53:35] Oh yeah.

[00:53:35] Big time.

[00:53:37] Anyway.

[00:53:39] Yeah.

[00:53:40] Well, I'm looking forward to watching the next one.

[00:53:43] Yeah.

[00:53:44] I probably wouldn't have actually watching it sooner

[00:53:45] rather than later just because once you get

[00:53:47] the momentum going like I had just finished

[00:53:49] editing the other one.

[00:53:51] Let's watch number two.

[00:53:52] Like I'm like, I kind of wanna watch number three now

[00:53:54] cause I can't remember.

[00:53:54] I know what happens in season.

[00:53:55] I don't remember the order of what things happened.

[00:53:57] So yeah, me neither.

[00:53:58] So I'm like if you want...

[00:54:01] Yeah, we can, yeah.

[00:54:02] Well, we'll just record sooner rather than later.

[00:54:04] And I like the approach for this.

[00:54:09] Yeah, it's kind of fun.

[00:54:10] Like with the parts and stuff.

[00:54:12] Yeah.

[00:54:12] Yeah.

[00:54:13] Guess I was talking more trek and less...

[00:54:15] Non-trek?

[00:54:17] Nonsense.

[00:54:19] Less of me yelling at the dog

[00:54:21] as he bends in circles and cries.

[00:54:23] Sitting or crying, sitting or crying,

[00:54:26] lying or can't just sit here and cry.

[00:54:28] And that's it friends.

[00:54:30] That's the end of another fabulous episode of Rewind.

[00:54:33] Did you miss us?

[00:54:34] I mean, come on.

[00:54:36] Hot Mess.

[00:54:37] Right.

[00:54:38] Podcast right here.

[00:54:40] Please check out our older episodes

[00:54:42] if you're a new viewer.

[00:54:43] No.

[00:54:44] I don't.

[00:54:48] And check out all the other amazing trek related shows

[00:54:50] on the Trek Geeks Podcast Network.

[00:54:52] There are so many and it's seriously like embarrassing

[00:54:57] to even be in the same...

[00:54:59] I'm just, I'm so surprised that they haven't booted us.

[00:55:03] Like super far.

[00:55:05] Like please don't use the word trek.

[00:55:08] Don't use the word geek.

[00:55:09] I feel like that season to this is on its way.

[00:55:12] Yeah.

[00:55:13] Trek is the podcast that we're...

[00:55:14] Trek is the track deck.

[00:55:20] Oh God.

[00:55:22] Yeah.

[00:55:23] Thank you guys for putting up with us

[00:55:25] and for not being pressure to have these out.

[00:55:30] We needed a little break.

[00:55:32] It's good to be back.

[00:55:34] Thanks to the Patreons and the listeners

[00:55:36] and anybody who may still...

[00:55:38] No one's sending us fucking voicemails.

[00:55:40] Let's just be real.

[00:55:41] No one's doing it.

[00:55:42] No one's messaging you guys on social media

[00:55:44] because rewind does not have a social media presence.

[00:55:47] So that's fine too.

[00:55:48] You can message at Trek Geeks if you want to say hi

[00:55:51] or maybe you follow me on X.

[00:55:55] Thanks, Five Year Mission

[00:55:56] for the use of your fantastic tuner as always.

[00:55:59] And that's it for this one.

[00:56:01] We will be back continuing on

[00:56:04] with our Picard Season 3 rewatch in the near future.

[00:56:06] Until then, use your sunscreen, don't be a dick,

[00:56:09] have your pets spayed or neutered.

[00:56:12] Bye.

[00:56:14] Bye.
