[00:00:00] Welcome to season 5 of the Big Sci-Fi Podcast with Adina Brian, Chris and Steve, the biggest

[00:00:14] sci-fi podcast in the galaxy. The adventure is just beginning here at the Big Sci-Fi

[00:00:20] Podcast, and we invite you to come aboard the Starship tangent. We know you'll enjoy

[00:00:24] the conversation, the laughter, the banner back and forth, and most of all friends who love

[00:00:29] hanging out to talk about all things science fiction. Set your phasers to fun. Here we go.

[00:00:36] And welcome to another episode of the Big Sci-Fi Podcast. My name is Brian Donahue, and today

[00:00:42] we have a well kind of a special guest I guess. She's not really a guest, but today we

[00:00:51] are talking to Adina Milana from your family. From actually onboard the Star Trek cruise, we're

[00:01:05] talking to her right now. She is sitting in a little restaurant cafe area and I'm here with our

[00:01:11] friend Steve, the resident retired nice guy. No, you're not a retired nice guy. You're a nice guy

[00:01:18] who's retired. Yeah, you know, exactly. And then Adina is here like I said, Christian could

[00:01:25] not be with us this week so our thoughts are with Kristen. Wish you were here Big Guy.

[00:01:30] Anyways, Adina, you're on the cruise and just give us a general overview of what it's been

[00:01:38] like and how much fun you're having and then we'll go from there. It has been amazing. So I'm

[00:01:44] on Star Trek with the cruise 7 and we have seven. This is the seventh one that the company EPC

[00:01:53] that puts on these. This is the seventh one that they've done. They've already announced and

[00:01:58] started booking for cruise 8 which will be next year, which I booked already so we'll be back

[00:02:04] again next year, which I'm so glad because this has been such an amazing experience. We sailed

[00:02:09] to Curacao and Aruba, but there's going to get to get to Curacao from Fort Canaveral, Florida.

[00:02:18] It was like two more than three days of sailing time. There's been a lot of on the boat time

[00:02:23] and there's just so many activities happening. There's so many guests here this year. You know,

[00:02:30] I'll read some of the names of the guests, Seneca Martin Green, Walter Payne,

[00:02:34] Will Wheaton, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Lever Burton, John the Lansies, and these Carvings,

[00:02:39] and not visitor Armand Schirmerman, Max Verdencheck, Chase Masterson, and a whole bunch of others.

[00:02:44] I mean like seriously there's more pages but like Michelle Hurd is here. You know John Billingsley

[00:02:50] is here Robert Picardo and Anthony Rap, David Agilla, and then Connie Newsom and other photos from

[00:02:56] Lure Deck so it's and there's so many activities happening every day that are trek-related.

[00:03:03] It's been nonstop just like so much is happening. And you mentioned them in this little like bar area,

[00:03:10] one of the cool things that they do is so this is a whole

[00:03:14] harder rental. So the company that puts this on, they rent the whole boat from Royal Caribbean.

[00:03:22] And one of the things that they do is they take all of Royal Caribbean's like normal

[00:03:27] bars that all have names, they rename them. So I'm sitting in Mariner's retreat right now.

[00:03:33] Oh not very nice. Is you know yes it's for Beckett Mariner but other places are like there's

[00:03:39] like this I when I was walking here I almost sat in the sub-space Rhapsody bar.

[00:03:47] But the reason I didn't is because they're playing sub-space Rhapsody on the TV in that bar right

[00:03:52] now. And that's one of the things they'll do is like in a couple of the bars, like one of the

[00:03:56] ones upstairs called the Spore Dives is constantly playing episodes of disco of the discovery up there.

[00:04:04] There's works Casino bar but they name the casino and there's like you walk into the casino

[00:04:11] and there's all this artwork of cork on the entrance to the casino. Yeah so everything's been

[00:04:17] you know renamed and redecorated. So it's a very immersive experience in the Star Trek.

[00:04:26] Are are all the passengers on the cruise there only for Star Trek?

[00:04:35] Sort of so yeah yes this is you know EPC imagine sewing up and you don't realize you're on a cruise

[00:04:44] like that. Yeah no and the reason why no that's not gonna happen is because this is a more expensive

[00:04:48] cruise and a normal cruise so no one's gonna help you. Yes there's no one is shivering up your

[00:04:52] accidentally but what I mean but when I kind of hedged a little bit is because there are a lot of

[00:04:58] people on the boat that are like in my husband Greg situation where he's the non-trekkie spouse

[00:05:04] or partner you know so there's a lot of people here who brought there well I am calling Greg right

[00:05:10] now he's a he's a trekkie in training. He's been a great sport about it he let me put him in a

[00:05:17] uniform the other day he looks great in the uniform he's gone to a lot of the programming and he's

[00:05:22] enjoyed it every evening there's like so even on a normal cruise in the evenings there's like a main

[00:05:28] show so this main show is here are performances by each night it's a different thing with the

[00:05:35] different correct actors and they're enjoyable even if you're not into start breath like one night

[00:05:44] it was Anthony rap just singing and he sang a variety of songs he sang some pop songs that people

[00:05:50] know he sang one of his songs from rent he used to be in rent you know so there's all these

[00:05:56] different things you do not have to be a diehard trekkie to enjoy it and so again so my husband's

[00:06:01] been enjoying it and I've talked to other people who have also there's non-trekkies spouses and

[00:06:05] yes it's just that it's an enjoyable time for everybody. I was going to say what about you know are

[00:06:16] are you you know just running into actors and performers from the series or are they just you

[00:06:22] know out and about hey how you're doing nice to meet you I'm Michelle her nice to meet you how

[00:06:27] you're doing or is it you know you're just seeing people in cosplay uniforms or regular clothes

[00:06:34] or whatever amongst the group all of it all of it so you do run into the different celebrities like

[00:06:42] you know oftentimes at like the dining hall or the different you know dining halls you'll see folks

[00:06:49] there and so I run into hot sash with and dominant heating amongst others and the cool thing is you

[00:06:58] know and I think I heard I forgot who had said this one of the conventions before I ever got on the

[00:07:05] boat you know someone asked like how do you deal with like kind of being locked on a boat with all

[00:07:10] of us creepy trekkies and you know at the end of the day they they do have the ability like if they

[00:07:14] want to go out and mingle like if they come to the dining hall where they know what we are you

[00:07:19] know they know they're kind of in a mingle not just equal to they want to get away from us they've

[00:07:25] got their quarters to go to they actually have I think there is somewhere on the ship like a private

[00:07:30] lounge like almost a green room private lounge for them so they they do get the ability to okay I'm

[00:07:36] going to I'm an interactive mode versus nope I'm gonna be off by myself now but people are

[00:07:42] risk I'm sorry people are respecting their privacy as well correct I mean you're not just like

[00:07:48] surrounding them no it's not it's not the swarm you would see but like I did I was walking into one

[00:07:55] of the reading places and this kind of side by side with John the Lansing um but he definitely had

[00:08:00] the look on like you know it was that night I know was his main show that he was doing so I just

[00:08:06] asked him for a fist bump and he bled and you know everyone's on their way and you know that kind

[00:08:11] of stuff that kind of interaction happens and depending on who it is um there was me and

[00:08:18] Greg sat down to eat in there and I saw Todd Stashwick was sitting down at the table like 20 feet

[00:08:24] away and I kind of gave him a much like hey you know you could come sit over here with

[00:08:29] caring for his afternoon activity but then after he had done eating he just added

[00:08:33] the blue then he just came over and just started chatting with us he said thank you for the lunch

[00:08:37] invitation sorry I couldn't you know take the up on it now and wait we chatted for a minute

[00:08:42] yeah and so everyone you know it's a little bit different but everyone is nice all the interactions are

[00:08:46] are cool um yeah and then yes there's there's different levels of cause like you know amongst all

[00:08:53] the passengers there are everything from like people just wearing like t-shirts to people

[00:09:01] wearing just random uniforms to people like different levels of cause like throughout the weeks

[00:09:07] last night was the big masquerade so that's where everyone who was like deep into cosplay it brought out

[00:09:15] all the the costumes that they had been working on for eight months and yeah that

[00:09:21] fails and yeah that looked amazing our friend Marc Sickle from the Star Trek family

[00:09:27] who's there did a really nice video walking through the line and some of the cosplay costumes just

[00:09:35] looked phenomenal and just yes just him walking through the crowd seeing the camaraderie the fun

[00:09:42] being had by all uh kind of gave me I felt like a really good picture of just the laid back

[00:09:49] atmosphere that's there you know that uh just the fun people are having being together and

[00:09:55] nerding out together all that so yep and I got this one some videos of that too i'll post them in our

[00:10:01] Facebook group uh on the big sci-fi podcast Facebook group when i get back home but yeah there were

[00:10:07] just amazing and the cosplay last night for the masquerade it did it's not necessarily all Star Trek

[00:10:15] there were and they had specifically for the people who wanted to participate in the cup

[00:10:20] they had several categories to include uh one was like the best actual Star Trek reproduction

[00:10:30] one was i think if i have um papers here okay so i'm going for memory

[00:10:37] uh one was a mashup one was like i think a non-trep sci-fi

[00:10:43] uh i'm just i'm sorry i'm just not remembering uh that's okay

[00:10:47] that's okay but yeah it's not it wasn't all exclusively Star Trek yeah

[00:10:57] it it just seems like you're at a seven-day long 24 hour convention

[00:11:04] it kind of you know in some ways yes um but in some ways there's much there's way different

[00:11:12] experiences you know the fact that yes you can just kind of roll into a bar or the one of the

[00:11:18] dining halls and just possibly see talk to have you know there's an actor sitting next to

[00:11:23] at the table to one of the thing you know some of the things that you could go to are panel

[00:11:31] discussions like i've been to this week i was at the Star Trek next generation panel

[00:11:35] i was at the Star Trek Picard panel i was at the Star Trek Enterprise panel um earlier day

[00:11:39] was the discovery panel and those are very convention-like experience

[00:11:44] moderating them asking questions and they take question from the audience

[00:11:48] but then the the shows in the evenings those are things that normally happen at uh at a convention so

[00:11:58] um one night they did a reproduction of a reading of Spock's Brain the TOS episode Spock's Brain

[00:12:07] where different people played the different roles nice like and uh uh you know arm

[00:12:13] and shimmerman played check-off Todd Stashwick played Kirk uh this is Doug Jones played

[00:12:22] uh Sulu Robert Picard played Spock you know they they had them up and it was just such

[00:12:28] you know the comedy and just fun of it was all great last night was something they called

[00:12:35] Star Trek duets where they paired up people to do some kind of show like arm and shimmerman

[00:12:43] and David Agiola did actually a little bit of Shakespeare and very nice yeah the non visitor

[00:12:49] and Mary Chifo they did the interesting like song and tango it was just hilarious so all

[00:12:57] these different those different kinds of things i haven't seen as a convention some of the other

[00:13:02] events that have happened that i haven't seen a convention where there was the Crusher family

[00:13:07] comedy hour the other night where he's in the fadden ed spelleries and will weathen

[00:13:14] due to the crusher and just comedy it was fun

[00:13:19] gix met that and also yesterday so she directed the episode the next generation episode

[00:13:24] genesis yeah that was the one where they're all like do you evolved and so we she did a

[00:13:31] they showed the episode in every scene they would pause and she would give her commentary as

[00:13:38] to questions from the audience about doing oh that's fun and those are not necessarily

[00:13:43] things we see it conventions either so yeah no no no most conventions it's just people on stage talking

[00:13:52] and going on about this or that but it this seemed like more performance and entertainment yes now

[00:14:02] let me ask you yeah i was just gonna say that no go ahead that you're certainly with that it feels

[00:14:08] on the cruise like that's the benefit of going on a seven day cruise is you get you're paying for

[00:14:14] a lot more you're getting a lot more you're seeing different sides to maybe the actors in particular so

[00:14:21] so let me ask you this as someone who just loves to vacation uh you know i know a guy um have you had

[00:14:30] time to just relax too and just chill out and or has it been pretty much go to this go to that

[00:14:38] so it's been pretty much go to this go to that but that's only because i really want to like you

[00:14:42] know yeah yeah i don't i'm not obligated to enforce um and then any downtime i've had has really

[00:14:50] been spent uh you know i had some some adventures getting here yes we know so we drove so for our

[00:15:00] listeners so my husband and i chose to drive from Maryland to Florida uh and that's just because

[00:15:08] we prefer to drive rather than fly and we ours into our drive my car broke down on the highway

[00:15:15] and we had to have a towed and get a rental and we were gonna get here so and then i'm here for

[00:15:22] getting messages from my family back home that my refrigerator died oh no so my uh my

[00:15:30] free time was just been taken up by combination of buying a new fridge shopping for and buying new

[00:15:40] fridge online and starting to figure out uh at home because uh you know figuring out if i'm

[00:15:47] gonna be able to drive my car back home and even if i can no matter what i need to buy in a car

[00:15:52] so i've been far shopping online um so yeah so my this has not been very different

[00:15:59] because from that perspective yeah what is the flipside yes on the flipside i'm not at work and

[00:16:08] my mother is feeling like a kid so yeah yeah and the refrigerator desert work and so on and so on

[00:16:16] but at least she's there with the kids and and you know watching at the you know you could have been

[00:16:22] away the house empty the refrigerator dies you come back and it's like what i

[00:16:30] by the way yeah by the way hi mom we appreciate you listening to this yes we do thanks for watching

[00:16:36] adina's kids go and hopefully we'll see you at trek long island yes again at least one day um

[00:16:44] absolutely have a meal with your son so shut out to adina's mom looking forward to seeing you

[00:16:49] just as much as all the people at trek long island

[00:17:04] also uh i was gonna say we we need to do this real quick because we haven't we didn't do it

[00:17:10] through game but just shout out to trek geeks thanks for being a great podcast network we're so

[00:17:15] proud to be on the network with all the other great podcasts and i'll have you run into i know there

[00:17:21] was at least one sci-fi sister that was going to the crews have you run into them there's at least two

[00:17:27] when i've run into them several times what what is also interesting is before i came on of the boat

[00:17:32] i knew a bunch of people who were gonna be here i still have yet to two of them and we we we've been

[00:17:38] sending messages like you know where are you it's it's hilarious it's really bizarre that an interesting

[00:17:44] that i've gone you know six days without running into a couple people i know uh so with at least one

[00:17:50] of them we made deliberate plans for later this evening to have dinner uh and that's just hilarious but

[00:17:55] you know it's there people and the conversation starter for almost everyone is is this your first

[00:18:04] proof and by that meaning is this your first start proof you're right right not and are you coming

[00:18:09] back next year and a lot of people are so i have been meeting people who whether or not this is

[00:18:14] their first they're also planning on coming back next year so i'll see them again and i've become

[00:18:20] faced with friends of a few new ones i've a few new people i've given out and told a lot of people

[00:18:26] about the big sci-fi podcast course thank you this is kind of a shout out to hopefully all the new

[00:18:32] listeners that i i met in person at the school checking us out um i was been happy and thrilled to

[00:18:40] meet each and every one of you because uh every one i've met has been just so nice and pleasant but

[00:18:46] i get we're on vacation right yeah yes number one yeah so even you know standing online striking

[00:18:53] up conversations the people have have been great or hang at the dining hall and you're just next

[00:18:58] to people and you just talk yeah yeah i got where they're from and again is one person the

[00:19:04] trek spouse and a non-trux spouse you know all kinds of things like that yeah adina was this your first

[00:19:11] cruise cruise no or have you been on cruises before so you knew what to expect or you knew

[00:19:17] how these things went yeah as as the crew just just as a cruise yes this is my been my

[00:19:23] proofs in life for start cut cruise okay yeah that that's interesting because you know because i

[00:19:32] we were i was looking about your your ship not a boat but a ship and it is it i mean the complement of

[00:19:40] of uh passengers can be as high as 4,000 people it's a big ship with a lot of i mean like there's

[00:19:50] this i looked at one picture and there's like this one area that looks like a shopping mall i mean

[00:19:55] it's just the great atrium it's a big open area the promenade okay love it.

[00:20:01] the one area they did not need to rename because the promenade obviously a little meaning

[00:20:06] always say promenade yeah but yeah yeah and then again this is not this is typical to the other ships

[00:20:13] that i've been on um that's you know i've i've been on turns to some carnival cruise lines i've

[00:20:19] cruises before this is this boat is world for a band it's the first time i've been on world for a band

[00:20:24] it's there to me they're all very very very similar okay the big difference the last couple

[00:20:30] forces i went on were with my kids and because i was so focused on them and keeping them

[00:20:38] my older son frank with food allergies like it's almost like the rest of them lured at me it wasn't much

[00:20:44] from vacation they were a bunch of vacation so this is the first time i've been able to like i

[00:20:49] would say kind of enjoy the just experience for myself which is kind of cool and what has been uh

[00:20:58] maybe your favorite part of the cruise and are you excluding star trek or including star trek in

[00:21:05] that Brian oh star trek okay yeah the star trekers yeah i don't care about the

[00:21:11] things we went on at all yeah i know that well yeah what did you mean like the star trek aspects or

[00:21:16] just the specs of it you know yeah i mean like yes yeah yeah yeah and then also just how you

[00:21:22] feel about the just the crew you know the cruise itself is it you know everything you expected it to be

[00:21:27] star trek crews well as a crew is this is exactly what i expected okay the star trek crews i didn't

[00:21:36] quite know what to expect you know i think a lot of my favorite parts are really seeing some of the

[00:21:43] shows that are unique um one of the other things they do is they have the column hardest posted events

[00:21:51] and you purchased tickets for their separately and i did purchase tickets for two of those

[00:21:56] events one was called uh discussions and desserts with doctors and that was an afternoon

[00:22:04] where yeah they had desserts available and then you have

[00:22:10] and dr. Mohammed Nora who's one of the science advisors of the need kind of genetic biology round

[00:22:17] they just were kind of got on stage you know and ran around amongst the group answering

[00:22:24] related questions and each other questions and and everything and that was kind of that was a lot of fun

[00:22:30] because it's a smaller event and then just this morning the second event i bought tickets for

[00:22:35] was a pancreatic pancreatic cancer pancan that organizations uh charity breakfast

[00:22:44] and john billingsley or mincemer was posted that and um yeah so those those events are kind of fun

[00:22:51] they're smaller a little bit more into that yeah and like i said i didn't know what to expect for

[00:22:55] any of it i can't think of anything i haven't enjoyed except for the first day probably like the first

[00:23:02] 24 hours i was very seasick and that first night on the ship i was very seasick um too bad and and

[00:23:11] i've been on enough you know ships and boats place to sail a lot to know that i am prone um to

[00:23:20] know that there's a lot of tricks to know to prepare to try the tricks but even then it's still that

[00:23:26] first night still didn't work um luckily things got better the next day and it's not going to what i

[00:23:31] think i've been good since uh that first night was also the boat was very rocky it was moving a lot um

[00:23:38] last night it was getting that way a little bit too but i went to bed and today's been fine

[00:23:44] today is our last full day at sea tomorrow morning is when we get off the ship back on land and back to

[00:23:49] reality no is there something special planned for tonight is the going away evening um so every night they

[00:23:59] also have like so there's there's your evening in a show and then there's like different parties

[00:24:07] and things in the evening at night now we're not late people we're early people so come around like

[00:24:15] nine nine thirty like we're basically just going to bed even though they're late late parties like

[00:24:21] looking at them i brought with me because we were podcasting a bit i brought with me most

[00:24:27] so i don't have day seven um but i kind of have the schedule of stuff and like there's gonna be at eight

[00:24:34] o'clock there's maybe karaoke at nine o'clock there's star trivia with special guests every

[00:24:40] hour of the race there's a 10 p.m. the midnight trip and Travis karaoke party with Connor

[00:24:47] Tamir and Anthony Montgomery um and then 10 30 to 230 and there's the voyage home party um maybe

[00:24:53] DJ for that so you know there's stuff going late into the night yeah i'm i'm not for to like

[00:24:59] after our show i've got you know that's when we're meeting some friends these friends for dinner

[00:25:05] and then if i'm awake at nine we'll go to the uh the trivia but that would be fun

[00:25:10] we're gonna be we're gonna be close to like put it out of that point

[00:25:17] and then when do you have to disembark tomorrow for the show at about eight a.m. tomorrow morning

[00:25:23] oh wow so you got to also get packaged up and ready to go with your luggage and everything in the

[00:25:28] morning so yeah yeah yeah well actually what we what you do is and this is typical on a cruise

[00:25:34] you usually have the option to get some bark yourself with your luggage or you can have like them

[00:25:41] hoarder it um and so we're just doing them so you actually have to have your luggage packed up

[00:25:46] the night before so you're back outside your room at by like 10 p.m. tonight so which is fine i mean

[00:25:50] again and those are the things that because i've cruised before i knew that that's how that works

[00:25:55] but no surprises there um so yeah so a lot of things are still just normal cruise stuff like

[00:26:01] where you have the buffet versus like the main dining halls and you still have a fitness center

[00:26:07] in a spa and you have your pools and you have like there's a walking running track on one deck outside

[00:26:13] and here there's a lot of stuff that is just so normal cruise stuff and so when i originally asked

[00:26:21] you know my husband Greg do you want to go you know he's like it's a cruise you know and he spends a

[00:26:25] lot of time especially in the morning in the in the fitness center because he likes to do that um

[00:26:30] and there's still just like a lot of just normal cruise stuff of monocritic cruise

[00:26:37] yeah i mean it is still again so still the cruise it's just the theme to cruise and

[00:26:42] you know and that's really what it comes out to the name of this episode might be we're on a

[00:26:47] freaking cruise no i'm just kidding but while we sure appreciate adina you taking time on the

[00:26:56] cruise to actually talk to us unbelievable thank you for doing that and we can't wait to see

[00:27:04] more pictures and maybe video and other stuff and hear more stories about how many autographs

[00:27:10] did you get yes ah okay so at a time you could purchase photo ops and autographs or you could do it

[00:27:17] on the boat um i think you wait to get on the boat slightly more expensive but when i looked at

[00:27:22] the list of people it's like oh my god i could easily spend a thousand dollars on this so i really

[00:27:27] had to to pick and choose and really think very difficult yeah hard about it now several of the

[00:27:34] people on the cruise i already have their autograph and then photo op like i have David O'Jala

[00:27:41] i have basic fat in i have dog garrons and actually you know i ran into David O'Jala a couple times

[00:27:47] i reminded him that we met at trickle and island and he said he's your member me but then i've met

[00:27:52] uh i've really met him a few times on the boat and he remembers his time it's just kind of cute

[00:27:56] but he's so sweet um so i had so okay so one i i eliminate people that i already

[00:28:03] and then after that it was like okay who am i not likely to see again or who is it who you know

[00:28:11] so at the top of my list the top of my list was Walter Canning yeah i thought so yes and that

[00:28:18] was actually he was the person i was just getting his autograph just five minutes before i got on the

[00:28:22] phone with you guys today and i had to say so he did a panel the other day just him and seeing him talk

[00:28:30] and tell stories and answer questions was so so delightful and i think you know now part of it is

[00:28:38] uh what's interesting because he's i think 87 years old right now what i noticed is for some of

[00:28:47] the folks who are getting up in those years their filter comes off

[00:28:55] they are willing to tell stories that they probably end with the total 20 or 30 years ago

[00:29:02] yeah so it is so fun to to hear him talk and and tell stories and i could listen to him all day

[00:29:13] keep your fingers crossed uh he has my contact information i told him about the podcast

[00:29:19] and um you know we'll see i think it's up to him to reach out to us at this point but that

[00:29:26] would be great but when i um so they have photo apps and autographs and so i did both i had my photograph

[00:29:32] taken with him and then this way had that photo autographed and he remembered me from the other day

[00:29:39] which is sweet uh and remember that i was from Maryland which he was impressed about he was

[00:29:44] he impressed himself he's like i can't believe i remember that

[00:29:49] but you know he was a real treat so i got his autograph and and picture the other two that i chose

[00:29:56] was levar burden oh wow good and i got to actually tell him that the reason that i'm an engineer

[00:30:05] in aerospace is because of you know watching engineers like him and start trek as an impressionable

[00:30:10] teenager yeah and then the other one uh who i've wanted to meet for years um and i'm so happy i did

[00:30:20] uh grand spider nice oh okay yeah oh gosh and and i was able to chat with him for a couple

[00:30:25] minutes too and we talked a little bit about AI and data and stuff and oh he's he's so he's so

[00:30:33] so nice to talk to you uh and that that to me is a such a delightful dream come true to be able to

[00:30:39] like to talk to him for a couple minutes yeah so i'm i'm sad that i didn't get more autographs and

[00:30:47] more opportunities like that but i'm still thrilled with the opportunities that i've got that's a

[00:30:53] pretty good list yeah yeah yeah pretty good the spoke with to speak with bread i i see them at

[00:31:00] conventions and he looks so laid back he looks like he's having he's like these the one guy

[00:31:05] having the most fun of anybody because that's who he is i think that in real life that's who the

[00:31:11] gentleman is that's the kind of a person yep yep and he's yeah he's funny he's

[00:31:19] everything about him seems kind and personable um yeah um i'm very blessed and very lucky to have

[00:31:28] spoken with these people this year you know when i was when i was at the star trek day at the

[00:31:33] paramount uh studios i did run into Walter and i did have a chance to speak to him and i did thank him

[00:31:40] for being there at the very beginning i didn't ask for his autograph because i didn't want to

[00:31:45] bother him but just to have a moment to to tell someone like you did with Lamar and tell him

[00:31:51] thank you because look what you did you you know you inspired me i think that means a lot to them

[00:31:57] to know that they have touched us in in a certain way yes and when i told i i think

[00:32:03] them just were being here and just that i appreciate they you know are out here because it's it is um

[00:32:10] you can see it it's a very tiring and exhausting experience to to be here to do like the line of

[00:32:16] autographs and for the folks who are doing shows and they're doing multiple shows a day it's a lot of

[00:32:23] and i know they put together these shows on short notes you know like like they don't have a ton

[00:32:27] of preparation or a ton of practice time so they get put together really quickly they do and that

[00:32:33] these are amazing professionals amazing professionals you know we and it's so such a joy to see them

[00:32:40] in other roles even even for a few minutes but to see them be doing other things outside of

[00:32:45] Star Trek because you get to really see their depth and breadth of professionalism and experience

[00:32:52] and you know i'm so glad that they they took themselves out there i mean again i know they do it

[00:32:58] because they no one wants to be thought of as just doing one thing or going for one thing

[00:33:02] so i'm glad as they are showcasing their talents to us and and just oh how amazing they are yes

[00:33:12] and them in the greatest compliment steve you kind of mentioned it that an artist can receive is

[00:33:18] that their art impacted or caused a positive emotional response or inspiration so i just

[00:33:28] you know an artist that doesn't appreciate that whatever their art form is um

[00:33:34] you know we want to impact the world with your art you want you want people to feel something

[00:33:39] you want to inspire that so um it's i think as star check fans we have

[00:33:46] such a unique fandom where the actors the directors the producers the writers the

[00:33:53] the composers the behind the scenes folks have really embraced the fans and

[00:34:00] we have such a unique opportunity like this on a star check cruise to brush shoulders with them

[00:34:07] to talk to them to actually meet them perhaps to touch them you know and uh to see them do something

[00:34:14] else uh you know i mean i i would love to fist bump john delancy i got to see him at comic con here

[00:34:23] columbus and saw him up close and sat in the first row for his talk he was fantastic

[00:34:29] but i didn't get to fist bump him so i did get the fist bump yeah nothing happened though like

[00:34:35] there wasn't this white flash the king over you were no alternate dimension no

[00:34:42] well it was a fist bump he didn't snap his fingers in front of me so uh very good and you know his

[00:34:47] fist bump or his snapping the fingers thing right what his act what it actually is so uh anyways

[00:34:55] anything else adena you want to share before we i know you uh well yeah well the next

[00:35:00] am gonna do let me let me tell you guys what i'm gonna do next there's one of the other interesting

[00:35:04] things about this cruise is beyond you know the actors there's several um science and other they

[00:35:11] they call them the they're following the science advisor special advisors so we had dr. Rohamid

[00:35:16] Noir uh we've experienced several times on the cruise dr. air McDonald she's also one of the

[00:35:21] science advisors to some of the recent trick series and Denise and michael al-Quda yes yes

[00:35:27] and so once i get off the phone with you guys i will be heading to they have an event this

[00:35:33] afternoon so one of their projects which is i think it's it's somewhat of a passion project uh

[00:35:40] for them but i think it's even more than that they're working with the rodentberry archive

[00:35:46] and i think they when when we interviewed them they talked a little bit about it

[00:35:50] uh and so they're going to be the the title of their presentation is inside the rodentberry archive

[00:35:56] we're relating the legacy of searcher's creator and so they'll be doing that presentation

[00:36:01] quarterly and so their presentations have been interesting too because you get such an amazing

[00:36:06] behind the scenes look at art and props and their experiences um you know pulling things together

[00:36:14] so that's been also great and i've spoken actually on the boat i've sat in chat with Denise several

[00:36:20] times uh and these are also you know amazing people that are responsible for a lot of what we see

[00:36:27] and you know too so it's it's more than just yeah it's more than just the aftertaste here

[00:36:34] were you were you were you wearing your big sci-fi podcast t-shirt when you met her i was wearing it

[00:36:41] i don't know because i've uh i've such i've worn so many different things this week

[00:36:46] because i i i had written to Denise and told her you're gonna be there and you'll notice her

[00:36:50] because she'll be the one wearing the big sci-fi podcast. Well i said we've sat and tried it several times

[00:36:56] so i don't remember what i was wearing the first day i saw her but uh let's see but yeah no i

[00:37:02] boarded the boat with my bike sci-fi t-shirt on just so you know for just so anyone because again

[00:37:08] i was very active also in the crews there's Facebook groups for the crews so for anyone who is

[00:37:15] thinking about going on the spurs or is gonna go on the spurs next year you can look for Star Trek

[00:37:20] the crews eight there's a far-ready Facebook group for next year's crews and that's a great way to

[00:37:25] you know that's one of the ways i got a lot of information about this year just kind of what to

[00:37:29] expect um and so the same same thing will happen for next year anyway so i i deliberately wore my big

[00:37:37] sci-fi podcast for just for you know so if anyone is gonna recognize me or say hello or whatever

[00:37:44] and i think i might be wearing an off the boat or i brought i brought multiple

[00:37:49] and i'll be wearing it off the boat tomorrow but yeah i've first talked a lot of people that are

[00:37:55] wonderful podcasts yes and yeah that's great awesome because i mean how many people we have

[00:38:02] interviewed on our show we're at the crews and i got my hug from Michelle heard oh thank you that's

[00:38:10] the i was gonna be my big question because she is such a sweetheart she was so nice when i

[00:38:15] ran to her on September 8th she and she's the one who hugs you she's so open and general

[00:38:23] genuine she is she's a sweetheart so i'm glad you got chances here yep and i've seen her own

[00:38:28] several of the panels and things this week you know like on the part panel and just to just to listen

[00:38:34] to her talk about things and of course on several of the panels they talked a lot about the work

[00:38:40] they did for the sag after strike last year and just hearing her talk about that and the important

[00:38:49] work they were doing it is amazing her anthony rap talked about that too because he was also

[00:38:57] involved in working with the devotee in committee and making sure a certain language got into

[00:39:03] their contract so hearing them talk about these things that it's not that they're passionate about

[00:39:08] these are very important important things for the industry and for all the people who work in the

[00:39:13] industry yeah so she is amazing of course i didn't see john fillings late several times too john

[00:39:21] watches language and there's no kids on this oh well there's no one under 13 allowed in this career

[00:39:31] so okay but no of course not you know i need i need to tell my wife that for next year that

[00:39:41] the kids are allowed to come they're not old enough so right she could go do all of her laying out on

[00:39:47] the deck hang by the pool whatever and i could go and not worry yeah yeah so i'm gonna say it is

[00:39:56] totally i'll say this is worth it you know if you're if you've got something you want to save up for

[00:40:02] this is the thing to save up for uh and do this is absolutely worth the experience yeah and it

[00:40:08] sounds like on this cruise too you get a chance to connect with people like yourself that you might

[00:40:16] stay in contact with because of wonderful things like facebook and instagram and i mean just

[00:40:22] dropping numbers if you want to too so that's that's just that is very impressive and fun and a great

[00:40:29] part of our fandom in love of trek 2 is we're all typically pretty friendly relatable people

[00:40:37] who love connecting and talking about star track of course but also our other interests so

[00:40:44] very cool well adina thank you so much we know you have to scoot to another fun activity

[00:40:52] so um we're glad you spent the time with us don't forget to hit that like and share button folks

[00:40:59] as you're listening to this share the big sci-fi podcast on all your social media if you can

[00:41:05] make sure you catch us uh on treckykes.com as well as all of the other amazing podcasts that are on

[00:41:12] there and don't forget that trek long island is coming up here the end of May it's gonna be in my

[00:41:18] good easing time i've still got a book my plane tickets i think i'm gonna try to see if that can't

[00:41:24] happen this week or next but we've already got our hotel rooms everything the the whole four of us

[00:41:30] are gonna be there again where it's gonna be an amazing time get your tickets now and uh get your

[00:41:37] reservations at the hotels all that stuff is gonna be a great convention we can't wait to see you

[00:41:42] there we really do want to see you guess you don't look around the room you we want to see you at treck

[00:41:56] and we'll catch you on the next episode of the big sci-fi podcast

[00:42:13] gonna find my way back home in the middle of the storm even when i feel alone

[00:42:21] i'm gonna keep on pressing on and i cannot give a look because i found that long ago

[00:42:29] when you lose sight of that hole there is nowhere left to go

[00:42:37] so

[00:42:45] is that you need to do this line should i go left them every ride i don't want it to pass me by

[00:42:53] but i don't want to waste my time and i have to shine this light even in the darkest night

[00:43:01] if you have to ask me why then this is my reply i will go through the edge of the world

[00:43:10] to find out what's old who is nothing to know i will stand up for the homeless ones who need someone else

[00:43:23] to buy them till the battle's won i will go i will go

[00:43:35] so

[00:43:51] cook it up
