[00:00:02] Hey friends, guess what?

[00:00:13] Trek Geeks is proud to have Fansets as our presenting sponsor.

[00:00:17] You know, Fansets is the place for amazing pin collectibles with over 400, that's right,

[00:00:21] I said it, 400 officially licensed Star Trek pins and new releases every single month.

[00:00:27] Stay tuned for a special discount code good on your next order at fansets.com.

[00:00:31] Fansets, our pins, have character!

[00:00:38] Hi, this is Alexander Sadiq, Dr. Julian Bashir on Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and you are

[00:00:44] listening to the biggest little show this side of the gamma quadrant.

[00:00:48] It's the Trek Geeks Podcast with Bill Smith and Dan Davidson.

[00:01:43] From the newly christened Podfleet Command Southern Headquarters in the northern most

[00:01:48] of the Carolinas, greetings to you listeners all across the Alpha Quadrant.

[00:01:53] This is the Trek Geeks Podcast.

[00:01:55] I'm your co-host Bill Smith, and this is episode number 313.

[00:01:59] Hey, that's kind of a palindrome.

[00:02:02] Or I guess, I don't know if they call numbers palindromes.

[00:02:06] I'm not really sure, but you know who will not know the answer to that is my illustrious

[00:02:10] co-host.

[00:02:12] And by illustrious, I mean that for all the wrong reasons.

[00:02:18] He's the largely exhausting Dan Davidson.

[00:02:26] And Dan, I know you've been on watch there at Podfleet Command Northern HQ.

[00:02:32] You're doing a heck of a job.

[00:02:33] I hope all is going well.

[00:02:35] Things are going well, man.

[00:02:36] It's been so quiet since you left here at headquarters north, as we should call it.

[00:02:42] Maybe we should call it.

[00:02:43] Is it a polygon?

[00:02:44] No, that's not it.

[00:02:45] That's different than a polygon.

[00:02:46] Okay, anyway.

[00:02:47] Hi, Dan.

[00:02:48] Good to see you.

[00:02:49] Hi.

[00:02:50] Wow, thank you for that insightful commentary, Dan Davidson.

[00:02:53] I really appreciate it.

[00:02:55] I'm excited to be here.

[00:02:58] It's good to be back in the saddle.

[00:03:00] We're just getting ready to head out to a great convention, you and I, to represent TrekGeeks.

[00:03:07] But here we are.

[00:03:08] You're there, I'm here.

[00:03:09] And it's just like the old days when we started to record when you were in Maine and I was

[00:03:13] in the newest of Hampshires.

[00:03:14] I know, right?

[00:03:16] It's a little bit further for you.

[00:03:18] You still look great.

[00:03:19] So yeah, you're welcome.

[00:03:21] You always do.

[00:03:23] And I'm glad that you're settled in over there in North Carolina.

[00:03:26] Things are nice and quiet here in New Hampshire.

[00:03:29] And here we are, episode 313, News of the Quadrant.

[00:03:33] No specific topic today to talk about Star Trek-wise, but we're just going to talk about

[00:03:36] all the news that's been going on because there's been a lot of news recently while we've been

[00:03:41] moving to North Carolina and traveling to the Magic Kingdom and stuff like that over

[00:03:44] the past few weeks.

[00:03:47] And it's amazing that when we think Star Trek isn't going to surprise us anymore, news comes

[00:03:52] up and we get the hell surprised out of it.

[00:03:56] So we're going to talk about that today.

[00:03:58] I'm sure there's going to be some tangents.

[00:04:00] If you listen to The Outtake, you'll see that we tangent all over the place.

[00:04:03] That never happens.

[00:04:05] Never happens.

[00:04:07] But it is so, so great to be talking Star Trek again.

[00:04:12] I just want to say that we've already eclipsed the number of episodes we've done last

[00:04:17] year.

[00:04:18] Everything from here on in, Dan, is gravy.

[00:04:20] So let's just-

[00:04:21] Congratulations.

[00:04:22] Let's keep cranking these out.

[00:04:23] In fact, I think we might wind up recording at least one next weekend while we're at Trek

[00:04:27] Long Island.

[00:04:28] I think that's a fantastic idea.

[00:04:30] I'll approve it.

[00:04:31] Give me the paperwork.

[00:04:32] We'll do it right now.

[00:04:33] Well, the approval, not the actual recording.

[00:04:34] Well, I say we got to get that from HR first and then it's going to go through procurement.

[00:04:39] That's a mess.

[00:04:40] Probably through PR.

[00:04:43] PR?

[00:04:44] PR?

[00:04:45] The PR team has to take a look.

[00:04:48] We got to get all kinds of sign offs through the sea level people.

[00:04:51] So that may take at least a couple of months.

[00:04:55] A couple of months, wow.

[00:04:57] Well, we got a big infrastructure here at Podfleet Command.

[00:04:59] I mean, we had to expand into a southern HQ because, I mean, we're just taking over the

[00:05:05] planet.

[00:05:06] It's like the size of a Breen Dreadnought ship.

[00:05:10] That is a great reference.

[00:05:11] Thank you.

[00:05:12] We're going to talk a little bit of Star Trek Discovery coming up soon right here after

[00:05:16] we do a tiny little bit of business with America, Dan.

[00:05:20] America.

[00:05:21] Bount.

[00:05:24] B-t-t-b-t-b-t-b-t.

[00:05:25] Bount.

[00:05:26] Bount.

[00:05:27] You missed your cue.

[00:05:28] Sorry.

[00:05:29] I was reading this.

[00:05:30] I was reading to make sure I didn't have any spelling errors on the copy.

[00:05:32] Wrong.

[00:05:33] There are.

[00:05:34] Of course there are.

[00:05:35] Please.

[00:05:36] It's written by Dan Davidson.

[00:05:37] Boom.

[00:06:00] Dan, as always, we want to take this moment to thank our friends at Fansets for being

[00:06:04] the presenting sponsor of Trek Geeks.

[00:06:07] Yeah, we sure do.

[00:06:08] A huge thanks as always to Lou and John and the entire Fansets team for all the hard work

[00:06:13] they do to bring you the very best Trek pins around.

[00:06:16] Now, be sure to head over to fansets.com for the greatest new releases, which include the

[00:06:20] research badges from Star Trek IV for both Scotty and Jillian.

[00:06:25] Now, I didn't even know that they were doing these, so way to keep us posted, Fansets.

[00:06:29] We appreciate that.

[00:06:30] Also, the original series gold mini Delta as well as the TNG future imperfect mini Delta

[00:06:36] pin are available.

[00:06:37] That makes me wonder if there's going to be seven other future imperfect mini pins, but

[00:06:41] that's a topic for another discussion.

[00:06:44] The lower decks property of the USS Cerritos pin is available.

[00:06:49] And from Discovery, you can now pick up the 32nd century command Delta in either pin or

[00:06:54] magnet form.

[00:06:55] And speaking of Discovery Bill, the long awaited Star Trek autograph pin from Cleveland Booker

[00:07:01] himself, Mr. David Ajala is now available at fansets.com.

[00:07:05] Oh, that is fantastic.

[00:07:06] I didn't know they were going to do one of those.

[00:07:08] That's amazing.

[00:07:09] Grudge is even on it for God's sake.

[00:07:10] Oh, well, then I don't want it.

[00:07:12] No, I kid.

[00:07:13] I kid.

[00:07:14] Dan, there are lots of new releases this week.

[00:07:17] So everyone get on over to fansets.com, grab all those new pins and then a check out.

[00:07:21] Be sure to enter the special discount code Trek Geeks for 10% off your entire order.

[00:07:26] That's Trek Geeks in all capital letters with no spaces.

[00:07:29] And don't forget, when you spend more than $30, you will automatically get free shipping

[00:07:33] in the United States.

[00:07:34] Now, if you're going to be at Trek Long Island next weekend, obviously we're not going to

[00:07:38] ship it to you, but Dan will promise to take a photo with you and each of the fansets pendants

[00:07:43] that you buy for no charge at Trek Long Island.

[00:07:46] No charge.

[00:07:47] And I didn't mention it here.

[00:07:48] There's a special Trek Long Island pin that is going to be available at Trek Long Island.

[00:07:53] It's gorgeous.

[00:07:54] I know I'm getting one and everybody who goes to Trek Long Island should get one too.

[00:07:58] Now, if they sell out, they won't be available on the website.

[00:08:01] But if there's any extras, you can sure bet that there will be some on the website afterwards.

[00:08:05] So keep your eyes open for that.

[00:08:07] Fansets.

[00:08:09] Our pins have character and we thank our friends at Fansets for being the presenting sponsor

[00:08:14] of Trek Geeks.

[00:08:15] Dan.

[00:08:16] Hi.

[00:08:25] It's time for the news from treknews.net.

[00:08:30] Spanning the alpha quadrant.

[00:08:40] For all the news on all the Star Trek's show.

[00:08:46] It's treknews.net.

[00:08:47] Barbecue sauce.

[00:08:55] Online at Chili's.com.

[00:08:57] I'm Trek News.

[00:09:00] I don't know what the hell I'm saying.

[00:09:02] Online at treknews.net.

[00:09:03] It's been a while since you've thrown barbecue sauce at me.

[00:09:07] That was pretty amazing.

[00:09:08] Well, you're in North Carolina now, so.

[00:09:10] Y'all.

[00:09:11] I don't know what that means, but anyway.

[00:09:13] Yeah.

[00:09:14] I haven't yet to have any barbecue down here.

[00:09:17] That's because if I do, I'm going to automatically be 500 pounds.

[00:09:20] Love that chicken from Popeye.

[00:09:23] Sorry.

[00:09:24] Have you had chicken from Popeye's?

[00:09:25] I have a long time ago.

[00:09:26] It's damn good.

[00:09:27] It's damn good.

[00:09:28] It's very good.

[00:09:29] Yeah.

[00:09:30] Anyway, we're here to talk about Star Trek news.

[00:09:33] Not necessary.

[00:09:34] Our culinary outings.

[00:09:36] Dan, up first.

[00:09:38] Star Trek, Strange New Worlds.

[00:09:42] You've heard of it?

[00:09:43] I have.

[00:09:44] Great show.

[00:09:45] Good show.

[00:09:46] It's got that dude from that thing.

[00:09:47] Strange New World season three has officially wrapped.

[00:09:52] That's pretty awesome news.

[00:09:54] Which means they're shooting.

[00:09:56] I think they're doing some pickup things, but as far as principal photography, that

[00:10:01] is over according to the one and only Captain Pike himself.

[00:10:04] Yeah.

[00:10:05] It was pretty awesome.

[00:10:06] Yesterday, I was scrolling through Instagram, which I'm actually using a lot more than I

[00:10:09] ever used to before.

[00:10:10] I know.

[00:10:11] I'm so proud of you.

[00:10:12] And it's great.

[00:10:13] I really love it.

[00:10:14] I sit there watching puppy videos all day long.

[00:10:16] But Anson Mount had a wonderful post on Instagram yesterday.

[00:10:19] He was outside.

[00:10:20] I don't know if it was of the set or the production studio or whatever, but he was talking that

[00:10:24] he had just finished wrapping his portion of season three.

[00:10:27] He said there's some stuff that they still needed to finish up, and he was trying to

[00:10:30] keep the video tight so that nobody could see what was behind him because evidently

[00:10:34] there was some stuff going on.

[00:10:35] But season three has wrapped.

[00:10:37] Finally.

[00:10:38] He apologized that it took long because of the strike and talked about how important

[00:10:41] the strike was.

[00:10:42] And he is so thankful for the support that all of his Star Trek fans have given and provided

[00:10:49] over the course of time waiting.

[00:10:50] He says it's not going to...

[00:10:51] He says it's going to be worth the wait.

[00:10:54] And I for one cannot wait to see what happens because that cliffhanger at the end of season

[00:10:58] two is right up there along the lines of Star Trek, The Next Generation, and Best of Both

[00:11:03] Worlds and what's going to happen with everything.

[00:11:05] So I'm very excited.

[00:11:07] Can't wait to get our crew back on the Enterprise and see what happens.

[00:11:12] I need it like I need air.

[00:11:14] Well, I mean, by the time we see it, it's going to be like what?

[00:11:18] Two years?

[00:11:19] At least.

[00:11:20] Yeah.

[00:11:21] It's going to be a long time.

[00:11:22] Which really is a shame.

[00:11:23] I mean, and I get it.

[00:11:24] It's no one's fault.

[00:11:26] You know, the strike had to happen just to simply protect the rights.

[00:11:30] Yes.

[00:11:31] And of the artists and to make sure that they were getting paid what they should be paid.

[00:11:36] Fully on board with that.

[00:11:38] The fact that it's taking two years to get the other half of that cliffhanger really is

[00:11:42] a first world problem.

[00:11:45] But I mean, Strange New Worlds is kind of like what I'm jonesing for, especially with

[00:11:51] Discovery coming to an end.

[00:11:53] Just I want there's less shows now.

[00:11:55] So that means the gap in between now is going to be potentially a lot greater.

[00:11:59] Yeah, I agree.

[00:12:00] I'm also very excited that even though season three has just wrapped, we already know that

[00:12:04] there's going to be a season four of Strange New Worlds, which is very good.

[00:12:08] We can look forward to, I would say, you know, optimistically at least 20 new episodes of

[00:12:14] Strange New Worlds over the next two years if they stick with their regular 10 episodes

[00:12:18] per season thing.

[00:12:20] Remember the good old days of 24, 26 episodes a season, dude?

[00:12:23] That was just the best.

[00:12:24] But you know, I'll take 10.

[00:12:26] I'll take whatever they give us because it's going to be awesome and I'm looking forward

[00:12:28] to it.

[00:12:29] I do.

[00:12:30] But remember the days of Aquiel?

[00:12:31] Ooh, you know, that's-

[00:12:35] Yeah.

[00:12:36] That's what you get when you have 24 and 26 season, episode seasons.

[00:12:41] It's like an episode named Bill Smith or something.

[00:12:43] You just don't want to go there.

[00:12:44] But anyway, I digress.

[00:12:45] Anyway.

[00:12:46] Tell me about it.

[00:12:47] I know.

[00:12:48] Gosh.

[00:12:49] But it's going to be great.

[00:12:50] Like we said, you know, Strange New Worlds has really just been a fantastic show with

[00:12:55] storytelling and acting and special effects and everything.

[00:12:59] I'm looking forward to it.

[00:13:00] Like you said, there's not as many shows now.

[00:13:02] Discovery's going to be gone.

[00:13:04] Lower Decks is going to be gone.

[00:13:06] So there's not going to be a whole lot out there like we had just a few years ago.

[00:13:09] So I can't wait.

[00:13:11] Like you said, it's going to be a while before season three airs, but I will be looking forward

[00:13:15] to that release date and trailer.

[00:13:18] Always like trailers.

[00:13:20] You are a big trailer fan.

[00:13:21] I love trailers.

[00:13:22] You always been a big trailer fan.

[00:13:23] I am so worried with Strange New Worlds that we're only going to get five seasons like

[00:13:28] we did for Discovery and Lower Decks apparently.

[00:13:35] Don't get me started on Lower Decks.

[00:13:36] We'll talk about that in a little bit.

[00:13:39] But because I want more.

[00:13:42] I feel like 50 episodes or so is just not enough.

[00:13:49] I'm a big fan of longer seasons.

[00:13:52] I'd like minimums of 13.

[00:13:54] I would like 20, but I really wish that we were getting more episodes for the franchise

[00:14:04] honestly.

[00:14:05] Because I think it's better for us.

[00:14:07] It's better for Star Trek.

[00:14:09] They're going to make it anyway.

[00:14:12] Why not just make more?

[00:14:13] Yeah, it seems that streaming now 10 is the number.

[00:14:16] I mean, all kinds of shows are capping it at 10 a season.

[00:14:20] I just got done watching Monarch Legacy Monsters, which I loved and that was 10 episodes.

[00:14:24] There's a bunch of other shows that I'm interested in watching and it seemed that 10 is the number.

[00:14:29] I don't know if that's a contractual thing or not, but it seems that's what it is.

[00:14:34] Now, if I remember correctly, wasn't Discovery season one 16 episodes?

[00:14:38] Something like that.

[00:14:39] It was rather 15 or 16 because there was that two episode prologue.

[00:14:47] I'm checking it right now just to make sure that I know what I'm talking about, because

[00:14:52] that never happens.

[00:14:53] It looks like 15 episodes in season one.

[00:14:56] 15 episodes, 14 episodes, 13 episodes and 13 episodes for Discovery.

[00:15:01] They went a little bit longer than most shows.

[00:15:05] We know that season five is 10 episodes.

[00:15:06] I'm going to bet that season three of Strange New World is going to be 10.

[00:15:10] I'm going with 10.

[00:15:11] Over and under is 10.

[00:15:12] Yeah, I don't think they'll get more than 10.

[00:15:15] I don't think any series on there is getting more than 10 right now, unless it's like a

[00:15:19] reality show or something that are cheaper to produce.

[00:15:27] I'm already thinking about the end game because we're more than halfway into Strange New World's

[00:15:31] production theoretically and I don't want the game to end.

[00:15:35] It really concerns me.

[00:15:38] I'm going to throw something out there and this is a curve ball, man.

[00:15:41] I haven't said anything to you about it before.

[00:15:43] It just popped into my head.

[00:15:45] We've seen it happen before with popular shows.

[00:15:47] What do you think about a Strange New World movie once it wraps?

[00:15:53] The possibilities are endless because it's Trek that we know.

[00:15:57] It's not in the 32nd century, which I don't even want to go into that part yet.

[00:16:03] The success of the show, I would love it if after the show wraps, they do a special

[00:16:08] movie.

[00:16:09] I think that would be fantastic.

[00:16:10] Well, but I mean, look how popular Discovery is right now.

[00:16:12] It's cracking the top 10 in streaming with every episode that it's releasing this year.

[00:16:18] It was the cornerstone for CBS All Access and without it, we wouldn't have had all this

[00:16:22] other Star Trek.

[00:16:23] You would think that they'd be getting ready to plan some other movies.

[00:16:26] No.

[00:16:28] So I have no confidence that Paramount will do anything like that.

[00:16:35] Oh, I agree.

[00:16:36] Confidence?

[00:16:37] No, I don't have the confidence.

[00:16:38] I have the hope.

[00:16:40] But we've seen over the last couple of years some of the decisions that have been taking

[00:16:43] place with Star Trek when it comes to executives at these companies, really scratch your head.

[00:16:48] So yeah.

[00:16:49] Do I have confidence?

[00:16:50] No, not at all.

[00:16:51] Do I hope to see it?

[00:16:52] Would I love to see it?

[00:16:53] Absolutely, because we know that the franchise succeeds with movies.

[00:16:59] It does and succeeds pretty much every time.

[00:17:03] We'll tangent this because they want to do a prequel movie for the Kelvin timeline that

[00:17:14] shows the beginnings of Starfleet.

[00:17:17] Don't we kind of know that already?

[00:17:19] Like first contact with aliens.

[00:17:21] So first contact as opposed to first contact itself?

[00:17:27] I've never been more of a head scratcher than when those headlines came out a few weeks

[00:17:32] ago.

[00:17:33] It really makes no sense to me at all.

[00:17:36] I would rather have the original rumored screenplay which brought back Kirk's father and the whole

[00:17:44] time distortion, get things back to the normal prime timeline instead of the Kelvin timeline.

[00:17:50] I don't know.

[00:17:51] I don't know.

[00:17:52] And I got to say with all the stuff that's been going on with a supposed new movie of

[00:17:55] Star Trek, I'm not holding my breath for that one.

[00:17:57] I'll tell you that either.

[00:17:58] I just am not.

[00:17:59] With all the turmoil that's going on where whether Paramount is going to be sold or anything

[00:18:03] like that, I just don't know if that will ever see the light of day no matter how much

[00:18:07] they talk about it.

[00:18:09] I have to agree with you, but getting back to Strange New Worlds, I have every confidence

[00:18:14] that season three is going to be amazing.

[00:18:17] They don't have to try to sell me on that.

[00:18:20] I believe that the right people are in place doing the right things.

[00:18:24] I just, I want it to continue to be amazing for a good 10 years.

[00:18:28] I would love that.

[00:18:30] And that would be right about the amount of time before Pike's accident.

[00:18:33] So that would be, oh my God, that would be perfect.

[00:18:38] Anyway, I digress.

[00:18:39] It'd be great if they wound up going back in time.

[00:18:43] Where's Discovery jumped forward, maybe they wind up jumping back.

[00:18:45] We get even more Strange New Worlds.

[00:18:47] Boom!

[00:18:48] How about this?

[00:18:49] They jump forward to the 32nd century and pull Discovery back to their regular timeline.

[00:18:53] No, we're not going to do that.

[00:18:56] No, we're not doing that.

[00:18:58] Yeah.

[00:18:59] Anyway, so-

[00:19:00] Anyway.

[00:19:01] Let's move on, shall we?

[00:19:04] I think fandom was stunned this week when it was announced that Academy Award winner-

[00:19:12] Unbelievable.

[00:19:13] Paramount Plus, Hunter, would lead the cast for the brand new Starfleet Academy series

[00:19:20] being produced for Paramount Plus.

[00:19:23] And I was among those people whose jaw hit the floor.

[00:19:27] Yeah, that's big news.

[00:19:29] I mean, we have an Academy Award winner now with Michelle Yeoh with the Section 31 movie.

[00:19:36] Now we have an Academy Award winner who is going to be the lead in a new TV series.

[00:19:42] And that's just incredible.

[00:19:43] Now, I will say I do not know a whole lot about Holly's career.

[00:19:48] I know that she was in broadcast news.

[00:19:50] I know that she was in the Piano, I believe.

[00:19:53] I know her for the voice of Elastigirl from the Incredible Movies.

[00:19:56] And I know her from The Firm, which I love her role in The Firm.

[00:19:59] I thought she was great in that.

[00:20:01] I know that she's been on Saving Grace.

[00:20:02] I know she's been on Mr. Mayor.

[00:20:04] This is a big name.

[00:20:06] Now, as exciting as this news is, I don't want to bring people down.

[00:20:11] I don't want to be negative.

[00:20:12] But I got to tell you, man, I'm going to be honest.

[00:20:14] I'm always honest on the show.

[00:20:16] Right now at this very moment, I have zero interest in this series.

[00:20:23] And I hope that changes when we get more information about it.

[00:20:25] Let me ask you this, to qualify, because we're the people who always say just watch it and

[00:20:31] make up your mind.

[00:20:32] Yeah.

[00:20:33] Let me ask you this as a qualification.

[00:20:35] Is it because it's set in the 32nd century?

[00:20:39] Bingo!

[00:20:40] That is exactly why I'm very upset about it.

[00:20:42] I understand, and I will always be one to criticize, because oh my God, you don't criticize

[00:20:47] CBS and Paramount on the Trek Geeks, guys.

[00:20:48] You're just shills.

[00:20:49] Wrong.

[00:20:50] I've always criticized the fact that in my opinion, they moved Discovery to the 32nd

[00:20:54] century to get out of canon problems.

[00:20:59] And to keep a new show in that timeline, I think is another way to avoid that from happening.

[00:21:07] I think there could be some fantastic stories about the original Starfleet Academy back

[00:21:12] in the times that we're familiar with, with Kirk, Spock, Pike, even up through Picard

[00:21:17] and Janeway and all those people.

[00:21:20] I just don't know.

[00:21:22] I will keep an open mind, which I always do.

[00:21:24] But right now, knowing that it's going to be Starfleet Academy and San Francisco in

[00:21:29] the 32nd century, I don't know.

[00:21:32] It doesn't blow any wind up my skirt, to quote true lies.

[00:21:38] Okay.

[00:21:39] I too am not excited that it's the 32nd century.

[00:21:44] You brought up a great point that they did it to avoid problems with canon.

[00:21:49] I'm sorry, but it's the job of a writer to write and to come up with things.

[00:21:54] They seem to have no problem making it fit with canon before that.

[00:22:00] Writers 20 years ago had no problem making enterprise fit canon.

[00:22:04] I think if you let writers do their job, they would have no problems at all.

[00:22:09] I think it just seemed to me to be a cop out.

[00:22:11] And we know it can happen.

[00:22:13] Because Kurtzman wanted to jump it forward.

[00:22:15] We know it can happen.

[00:22:16] Look at the amazing writing people like Bowie did and bringing the canon that we're used

[00:22:21] to into stories, like the whole Pike accident and stuff like that, which I will always be

[00:22:26] forever grateful with.

[00:22:27] Bowie and Erica.

[00:22:28] Bowie and Erica.

[00:22:29] Yeah.

[00:22:30] They were fantastic with that.

[00:22:31] And it just, I don't know.

[00:22:34] I'm a little tired of the whole, hey, I can pull a phaser out of thin air type of thing,

[00:22:37] which happens in the 32nd century now.

[00:22:40] And like I said, I'll keep my mind open.

[00:22:43] I'm not excited right now.

[00:22:44] Hopefully that will change.

[00:22:46] But when I watch it, I might be more critical of it just for the fact that I'm not super

[00:22:51] excited about it, at least at this point.

[00:22:52] But we'll see.

[00:22:53] That could change.

[00:22:54] And I don't want to knock any of the writers who are on Discovery now.

[00:22:57] No, not at all.

[00:22:58] They were given a framework with which to write inside, sort of an updated show Bible,

[00:23:05] I imagine.

[00:23:06] But there were also great writers in the first two seasons of Discovery who had no problem

[00:23:13] telling engaging stories that advanced these characters forward.

[00:23:18] Because that's really what it's about.

[00:23:19] It's not about the canon.

[00:23:21] It's about the characters and how we reflect humanity.

[00:23:24] And when you let writers do their job, you get a great product.

[00:23:29] I feel like personally it was dissatisfied, the whimsy of one person.

[00:23:35] I agree.

[00:23:37] But that's neither here nor there.

[00:23:40] I too, I will give it a try.

[00:23:43] A lot of people are calling it 90210 in space.

[00:23:48] Being a 90210 is in college, I don't think.

[00:23:50] And that's essentially what Starfleet Academy is.

[00:23:52] It's a military academy of sorts or quasi military academy.

[00:23:58] It's probably more like X-Men first class, quite frankly.

[00:24:02] I will say one other thing in regards to it.

[00:24:05] It's great to have Holly Hunter.

[00:24:06] I sure...

[00:24:08] They damn well better have Tilly on the show with everything that we're seeing with her

[00:24:13] in Discovery in season five with Starfleet Academy and everything.

[00:24:16] It would make sense.

[00:24:17] And if they don't, I think it would be another slap in the face to that character because

[00:24:22] I think they slapped her in the face really hard in season four.

[00:24:26] And I'm very glad that they at least have brought her back to wrap up stuff in season

[00:24:30] five.

[00:24:31] It just would make sense to have Mary as a, at least a recurring character in the new

[00:24:35] show since that's where she is now anyway.

[00:24:38] Well, but we don't know why she wasn't in season four.

[00:24:42] We assume it was just because they didn't want her there, but for all we know she could

[00:24:46] have asked for some significant time off to something in their real everyday life.

[00:24:51] True.

[00:24:52] I'm glad she's back for season five, but the fact that she's going to go back to, probably

[00:24:57] go back to the academy to teach says we probably should and when we'll see her at least intermittently

[00:25:04] if she's not going to be part of the series already.

[00:25:06] Yeah.

[00:25:07] We shall see.

[00:25:08] We shall see.

[00:25:09] We shall see.

[00:25:10] Speaking of things that have come from discovery, Dan, section 31, the much talked about movie

[00:25:22] has also wrapped some time ago and I want to go on the record here and say I'm still correct

[00:25:28] because I said there would never be a section 31 series.

[00:25:31] You are correct.

[00:25:33] And it was never going to happen.

[00:25:35] And when they said, oh, it's still happening, it was never still happening.

[00:25:41] And then once Michelle Yeoh won an Oscar, there was no way we were going to get her

[00:25:43] for a series.

[00:25:44] So I don't want to say neener, neener, neener, but I will.

[00:25:49] Yeah.

[00:25:50] You're absolutely right.

[00:25:51] I give you all the credit in the world.

[00:25:53] As everyone who has ever listened to this here podcast knows, I love section 31.

[00:25:57] I love the idea of it.

[00:26:00] I don't like how some things have been handled with it as it's become more and more apparent

[00:26:07] that it's been around and people knew about it, even though originally nobody knew about

[00:26:11] it.

[00:26:12] That's an issue.

[00:26:13] But I like section 31, so I'm very happy that there is going to be a movie with Michelle

[00:26:18] Yeoh as a star.

[00:26:19] Of course, we saw her as Emperor Georgiou in Discovery and now she's back for this

[00:26:26] movie.

[00:26:27] It wrapped in late March, so it has been a few months, so I'm sure they're heavy into

[00:26:31] post-production.

[00:26:32] We don't have a release date yet that I'm aware of, but I am very much looking forward

[00:26:38] to this.

[00:26:39] I think it's going to be fantastic to see what's going on with her ever since she stepped

[00:26:44] through the Guardian's donut hole.

[00:26:47] So yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

[00:26:49] We'll see what happens.

[00:26:50] Yeah.

[00:26:51] The donut hole.

[00:26:52] The donut hole.

[00:26:53] Well, I mean, we know it's being directed by Ola Tundeo, who's on me.

[00:26:57] Tunde directs the hell out of everything he gets to do.

[00:27:00] He's fantastic.

[00:27:01] So I have every confidence that the movie will be enjoyable.

[00:27:06] We do get kind of a precursor because there's a character coming back for that particular

[00:27:15] movie that we'll recognize.

[00:27:17] Yes, we will recognize Rachel Garrett from your favorite episode, Tongue in Cheek, yesterday's

[00:27:25] Enterprise.

[00:27:26] And we did see her kind of in Star Trek Picard season three, like kind of, just maybe like

[00:27:31] a statue.

[00:27:32] But yeah, she's going to be a major character in this movie.

[00:27:35] So it'll be interesting to see how that all comes about.

[00:27:39] I believe if I remember correctly, and I admit I have not read it in quite a while, I believe

[00:27:43] it's a younger version of Captain Garrett.

[00:27:46] So it'll be interesting to see what happens with that.

[00:27:47] I do like the fact, this is a good example of what we were just talking about.

[00:27:50] If you have the writers doing the right thing, they can do stuff like this.

[00:27:53] But they're pulling in stuff that we would not have thought people would ever be writing

[00:27:56] or starring or talking about in movies again.

[00:27:59] Captain Garrett, she was in one episode of TNG.

[00:28:01] She was mentioned in Picard season three, but yet here she is, is going to be a pretty

[00:28:05] significant character in section 31.

[00:28:07] So we'll see what happens.

[00:28:09] I don't know.

[00:28:10] Well, that's what leads me to believe the whole jump to the 32nd century was just bullshit.

[00:28:13] Because we can write about this time, which nobody knows about.

[00:28:18] There's nothing written in this space.

[00:28:21] There was nothing written about the space 10 years before Kirk and Spock.

[00:28:25] And yet there won't be any canon problems there?

[00:28:30] Maybe?

[00:28:31] No, come on.

[00:28:32] No, not at all.

[00:28:33] No.

[00:28:34] I will say as interesting as it is to have Rachel Garrett as a character, I am equally

[00:28:40] as upset unless they're going to surprise us that Ash Tyler has not been mentioned as

[00:28:44] being in this movie when he was such an integral part of section 31 during that season of

[00:28:51] the movie.

[00:28:52] Well, maybe he will be now because it doesn't look like Disney's going to go through with

[00:28:54] 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

[00:28:56] I think that was one of the tax write-offs they took advantage of.

[00:29:00] Which I'm bummed about because that was my favorite book growing up, 20,000 Leagues Under

[00:29:05] the Sea by Jules Verne.

[00:29:07] I so wish I got to go on that ride at Disney before they closed it down.

[00:29:10] I was just going to say, I never read the book, but that was my favorite ride at Disney

[00:29:13] when I was a kid.

[00:29:14] It scared the hell out of me.

[00:29:15] And I always thought we were really underwater and we weren't.

[00:29:19] You weren't?

[00:29:21] It actually went underwater.

[00:29:22] Part of it did, but it didn't completely submerge.

[00:29:24] Oh, because you don't want to drown the park people.

[00:29:27] Right, right.

[00:29:28] Now they can do it as Sebastian's Under the Sea ride.

[00:29:31] Ah, yeah, man.

[00:29:33] Anyway, yeah.

[00:29:35] Back to section 31.

[00:29:36] Darling, it's better.

[00:29:37] Darling, it's better.

[00:29:38] Take it from me.

[00:29:39] So we'll see.

[00:29:40] No release date, but I'll be looking forward.

[00:29:45] But that will be coming to Paramount.

[00:29:47] Plus, I'm honestly not going to be surprised if there's a theatrical release.

[00:29:50] I wouldn't be surprised either.

[00:29:51] I wouldn't be surprised if it initially is on Paramount Plus and then maybe, depending

[00:29:56] on the success of it, do you think maybe afterwards they might do a theatrical?

[00:29:59] I don't know.

[00:30:00] I'm going to say there's no reason they can't flop it.

[00:30:03] Put it in theaters for a limited time and then release it to Paramount Plus.

[00:30:07] Make some money back.

[00:30:08] That's right.

[00:30:09] Why not?

[00:30:10] Because that's what they're in the business of, right?

[00:30:14] I would think so.

[00:30:15] Now, Dan, this isn't on the board, but I'm going to bring it up anyway.

[00:30:18] Oh, here we go.

[00:30:20] The announced ending of Lower Decks after the current season, which I am the most bummed

[00:30:28] about.

[00:30:29] You know, it's a bummer that Discovery is coming to an end.

[00:30:34] Whenever a Trek series ends, it's like, oh, okay.

[00:30:38] But with Lower Decks, well, I'll let you tell us about the fact that it's ending.

[00:30:44] It's ending.

[00:30:46] Great job.

[00:30:48] I think that for me, I felt such a connection to Lower Decks because it kept me laughing

[00:30:55] through a horrible time.

[00:30:57] Yep.

[00:30:58] You know, we got to know Lower Decks through the pandemic and it was there for us to let

[00:31:06] Star Trek poke a little fun at itself.

[00:31:10] And it was new and it was fresh and we got to see things we didn't expect.

[00:31:14] And now to hear that what is most likely the show that is cheapest to produce, I'm

[00:31:20] going to guess.

[00:31:21] Yeah, I agree.

[00:31:23] Is getting cut from Paramount Plus after five seasons really is...

[00:31:31] They could literally do this show for 20 years.

[00:31:35] Exactly.

[00:31:36] That's not an exaggeration.

[00:31:37] There's so much to tell with these characters.

[00:31:42] It has been...

[00:31:43] And you said it.

[00:31:44] This show makes me laugh.

[00:31:46] This show is fun.

[00:31:48] We've talked about how Discovery every season is like, if they don't solve the problem, all

[00:31:54] life could end or Thanos is going to snap his fingers and half the galaxy is going to

[00:31:59] disintegrate or whatever.

[00:32:00] It's always been this, oh my God, this has to be fixed issue problem on Discovery for

[00:32:05] five seasons.

[00:32:06] And I'm not necessarily knocking that, but I'm comparing it to fun, laid back, sometimes

[00:32:12] crude, humorous, funny, but at times serious entertainment that is Lower Decks.

[00:32:19] Mike McMahon has done an absolutely phenomenal job with this series as has all of the people

[00:32:26] associated with it.

[00:32:27] The animators, the voice actors, the pre and post production teams, nothing about the show

[00:32:33] has been bad except the cancellation.

[00:32:37] The problem is we don't really know why it has been canceled, which makes people start

[00:32:44] rumors or conspiracy theories.

[00:32:47] I don't think this is going to happen.

[00:32:49] We saw it happen with Prodigy.

[00:32:50] I would love to see somebody else pick it up because it's that good and people want more

[00:32:56] of this show.

[00:32:58] It is probably the most disappointing cancellation notice of any of the Trek shows.

[00:33:07] Yes, I agree with you 100%.

[00:33:09] I will only be equally as crestfallen when Strange New Worlds is canceled sometime.

[00:33:15] But I feel for as much as with the legacy stuff, Deep Space Nine was our Trek.

[00:33:22] I feel like in this newer batch of shows until we got Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks was

[00:33:27] our Trek.

[00:33:28] Yeah, it's so good.

[00:33:30] It's so good.

[00:33:31] I felt like it touched my fandom and that was important.

[00:33:38] I can only hope that some other service, maybe Netflix, maybe somebody else will pick it

[00:33:42] up.

[00:33:43] I know Aaron Harvey, our own Aaron Harvey is doing a Lower Decks streamathon online.

[00:33:49] Coming up, I want to say it's the 25th?

[00:33:53] That would be tomorrow, right?

[00:33:56] As we record this.

[00:33:57] As we record this, yeah.

[00:33:58] I think you're right.

[00:33:59] Unfortunately, I don't have it up on my screen right now.

[00:34:01] I'm going to it right now.

[00:34:02] Yes, it is.

[00:34:03] Oh, there he goes.

[00:34:04] Boom.

[00:34:05] May 25th, all day long.

[00:34:07] You can go to savestartreklowerdecks.com, but he's going to have guests and the whole

[00:34:12] idea is to ratchet up those streaming numbers for Lower Decks, whether you're able to tune

[00:34:18] into their live stream about it or not.

[00:34:21] Let's all get out there and get in there and load up that Paramount Plus, if it actually

[00:34:27] loads because it's a shitty app and watch Star Trek Lower Decks.

[00:34:32] Ouch.

[00:34:33] Did I say that out loud?

[00:34:34] I think you did, but you're not wrong.

[00:34:36] I'm not wrong.

[00:34:38] It's always really kind of been horrible.

[00:34:43] Even the CBS All Access.

[00:34:45] Did I say this?

[00:34:46] Oh my God.

[00:34:47] Oh man.

[00:34:48] Why can't you stop me?

[00:34:49] Because you're not wrong.

[00:34:50] I can't stop the truth.

[00:34:52] This has never stopped you before.

[00:34:53] That's because I've never really been interested in what you have to say, but now I am.

[00:35:00] So yeah, so we hit upon Lower Decks, but Dan, let's talk about something happier.

[00:35:04] Very happy.

[00:35:05] Before we downshift into really probably the biggest news of the next week and that is

[00:35:12] Trek Long Island.

[00:35:14] You and I have been waiting to go for this for a year, literally.

[00:35:18] Ever since we talked to Lou and John at FanSats and they said, guys, you have got to do this

[00:35:23] con next year.

[00:35:25] And here we are.

[00:35:26] We are about a week away.

[00:35:29] We're a week away from the convention kicking off and I'm as excited right now as I am for

[00:35:35] Vegas.

[00:35:36] I was just going to say, this is the first time we've done this one.

[00:35:38] So I remember the first time I went to STLV several years ago and that excitement is

[00:35:43] kind of the same right now because it's a new one.

[00:35:45] We haven't done a convention in quite a while, you know, Vegas last year.

[00:35:48] So it's been almost a year.

[00:35:49] So it's time to get back out on the circuit and it's close, which is great.

[00:35:54] And it's intimate, which I think is even greater.

[00:35:59] This isn't a negative thing at all.

[00:36:01] It's a smaller con, but there's going to be tons of Star Trek actors there.

[00:36:06] There's going to be tons of podcasters there.

[00:36:09] And it's all done so remarkably from what we've seen with what happened last year and all the

[00:36:16] discussions that we've had this year.

[00:36:17] I can't wait.

[00:36:18] It is going to be nonstop fun from the time that we get there till the time that we wrap

[00:36:21] it up.

[00:36:22] I can't wait.

[00:36:23] And this is a great con because it was created to help benefit organizations that could use

[00:36:28] funding.

[00:36:29] Organizations doing great things.

[00:36:31] So think of it almost as a charity con, which I think is even better.

[00:36:35] You know, not only are you going to meet some amazing people from the Star Trek universe,

[00:36:41] but you're also helping do good, which I think is important.

[00:36:44] I mean, I think that kind of speaks to the notion of Trektivism, quite frankly.

[00:36:48] Oh, absolutely.

[00:36:49] And just knowing of what all the people that are putting so much of their heart and soul

[00:36:56] behind this makes it even more important for us, I guess is the right word, to be there

[00:37:02] and to do our part.

[00:37:03] I mean, there's going to be some great guests there.

[00:37:06] We're going to have Melissa Nabi is going to be there.

[00:37:08] Armin Schimmerman is going to be there.

[00:37:10] Ethan Phillips, Gabrielle Ruiz.

[00:37:12] I mean, the list goes on and on and on.

[00:37:14] There's going to be all kinds of panels all weekend long with these guests.

[00:37:20] Elias Tufeksis is going to be there.

[00:37:22] The bad guy from Discovery Season 5.

[00:37:25] I was just going to say, my man, Elias Tufeksis.

[00:37:28] I love this guy.

[00:37:31] Meeting him in Vegas with his beautiful family was fantastic.

[00:37:34] Such a great guy.

[00:37:35] But to know that he's going to be there after just his amazing job this season on Discovery,

[00:37:41] Wait, if you played Star Trek Resurgence, you've heard him.

[00:37:43] He's been in a metric ton of video games.

[00:37:47] He's in Star Trek Discovery Episode 3 Season 1, by the way.

[00:37:51] Really?

[00:37:52] He's one of the prisoners on the transport shuttle.

[00:37:54] I did not know that.

[00:37:55] I'm going to have to go back and check that out now.

[00:37:56] You know, at the beginning of the episode where Bernard is being taken in a Discovery

[00:38:00] interruption, he's one of those guys.

[00:38:02] That's awesome.

[00:38:03] Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to check that out.

[00:38:05] But yeah, it's going to be great.

[00:38:06] There's so many great people.

[00:38:08] So many great conversations are going to be had.

[00:38:10] We're going to have some panels that we're very excited about, man.

[00:38:13] And I'll tell you what, I'm looking forward to it.

[00:38:16] I've said it like five times, so I guess it means it's going to...

[00:38:19] I'm happy about it.

[00:38:20] So let's talk about it.

[00:38:21] So on Saturday night in prime time, panel room B, kind of after hours, you and I are

[00:38:30] doing Trek Geeks After Dark Before Sunset.

[00:38:33] That's a good name.

[00:38:34] Because the sun won't be down yet.

[00:38:37] We can't really call it after dark.

[00:38:39] So that's the name I settled on.

[00:38:41] And you and I are going to do a version of Say Something Nice live at Trek Long Island,

[00:38:46] which I'm stoked for.

[00:38:48] We haven't done that.

[00:38:49] We haven't done Say Something Nice in quite a while.

[00:38:51] I know.

[00:38:52] It's going to be awesome.

[00:38:53] We're going to record it.

[00:38:54] So it will be an upcoming episode here on Trek Geeks down the road for those people that

[00:39:00] unfortunately won't be able to join us in New York.

[00:39:03] It's going to be awesome.

[00:39:04] I've got some great stuff I want to talk about, man.

[00:39:07] I'm going to be nice.

[00:39:08] It's going to be hard, but I'm going to be nice.

[00:39:10] And I might even say a nice thing or two about you.

[00:39:13] Oh, you're so sweet.

[00:39:14] I'm just kidding.

[00:39:15] I won't say anything nice.

[00:39:16] No, you're not going to say anything.

[00:39:17] I'm still working out the audience participation element because people who participate are

[00:39:23] going to get prizes from fan sets, which is always the amazing part.

[00:39:26] Prizes from fan sets?

[00:39:27] Yes, it's going to be amazing.

[00:39:28] I know.

[00:39:29] Here's the even better part.

[00:39:30] We're less than a week away out.

[00:39:31] Now normally when we've got Vegas and we've got our Fan Geeks party, we know the prizes.

[00:39:35] We know the whole metric ton of pins that we're going to be giving away.

[00:39:39] Right now, as we record, you and I haven't the slightest idea of the prizes that are

[00:39:43] going to be given away.

[00:39:44] They could be giving away the whole kit and caboodle for all we know.

[00:39:48] And it's just going to be that much better for the people that are in the audience for

[00:39:52] that night for Say Something Nice.

[00:39:54] Anytime I can make fan sets just give away product, it's a good day for me.

[00:39:59] I love it.

[00:40:00] Whether it's to me or somebody else, I'm very happy.

[00:40:02] Maybe those Star Trek 4 new pins that we talked about that I never even knew they made.

[00:40:07] I'm so upset at them right now.

[00:40:09] No, I'm not.

[00:40:10] I love them.

[00:40:11] You can yell at them next week.

[00:40:12] In person.

[00:40:13] Slap you around a little bit.

[00:40:15] Well, yeah.

[00:40:16] Not John though because John's really the brains and the talent behind all of it.

[00:40:20] We're also doing, as far as panels, I believe it's on Sunday.

[00:40:24] Yes, Sunday.

[00:40:26] We're doing the Star Trek Save My Life panel.

[00:40:30] Probably nowhere near as hilarious and funny as the Say Something Nice will be.

[00:40:35] But we've done other versions of this panel before at Trek On Daroga and also at the official

[00:40:42] Star Trek convention, Mission Chicago.

[00:40:43] Hey, what a shock.

[00:40:45] No Mission Chicago slated for, no Mission convention slated for this year.

[00:40:50] And this time it's you and I for the 45 minutes.

[00:40:55] And it's always a conversation that brings out some different elements and also I think

[00:41:05] causes other folks to share things that they may not have anticipated sharing on that particular

[00:41:10] day.

[00:41:11] I don't disagree with that.

[00:41:12] And I actually think that's one of the benefits of doing this type of discussion, to let people

[00:41:17] know that you can talk about some of these things that you may not think you would be

[00:41:21] talking about for any reason.

[00:41:24] We've talked about stuff before that's happened with both of us.

[00:41:28] And it's not to put a spotlight in any way on either you or I and what we've gone through,

[00:41:33] but it's our way of giving back and letting people know that there is help out there.

[00:41:38] And things like Star Trek are extremely beneficial and can literally save lives.

[00:41:43] And as we always have, I'm very much looking forward to this because I think it's an important

[00:41:49] discussion.

[00:41:50] I am too.

[00:41:52] It's kind of weird to say I'm looking forward to it because it's an ultra serious topic.

[00:41:57] It is.

[00:41:58] I have other details to bring this year from recent therapy revelations.

[00:42:06] So that will be different.

[00:42:08] It will be painful.

[00:42:10] We recommend bringing Kleenex or tissues because Kleenex is a brand name.

[00:42:17] But it's also a panel where it's a safe space for anybody who wants to say something.

[00:42:24] Which should always be the case.

[00:42:26] Right.

[00:42:27] We want people to come and know that they're in a room full of friends who understand.

[00:42:32] And if people feel compelled to share during the panel, awesome.

[00:42:35] If they want to talk to us after the panel, absolutely.

[00:42:41] Not everybody is comfortable getting up in front of a microphone in a room full of people.

[00:42:46] I certainly understand that.

[00:42:48] So it's a room where everybody's input will be appreciated and taken seriously and with

[00:42:57] the utmost respect for sure.

[00:42:59] Absolutely.

[00:43:00] Could not have said it better myself, so I won't even try.

[00:43:03] Thank you.

[00:43:04] I really appreciate that.

[00:43:05] And just like you said, all kinds of other panels.

[00:43:07] It's going to be a great weekend of celebrating this franchise that we love on the East Coast

[00:43:11] for a change.

[00:43:12] Yes.

[00:43:13] Which I'm very excited about.

[00:43:14] And I have to say goodnight.

[00:43:15] It won't be like three hours earlier and it's like I haven't even had dinner yet.

[00:43:18] So yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

[00:43:21] I missed a good chunk of the Trekktivism party because I was saying goodnight to my wife

[00:43:25] last week.

[00:43:26] And here you are out there taking selfies with the Not Visitor, Bob Picardo.

[00:43:30] You do what you do.

[00:43:31] All kinds of Trek royalty.

[00:43:32] And I'm like, I missed this?

[00:43:34] Well, they said don't come.

[00:43:36] I hate you so much.

[00:43:39] Well Dan, the big thing of the week is the fact that Star Trek Discovery comes to a close

[00:43:48] this coming Thursday with its final episode.

[00:43:52] And I will tell you I've seen it because we do have access to screeners through Paramount.

[00:44:01] It is roughly an hour and a half long.

[00:44:04] So don't think, try to squeeze it in if you only got an hour.

[00:44:09] You're going to want the whole hour and a half uninterrupted.

[00:44:12] Okay.

[00:44:13] That's good to know.

[00:44:14] I am on episode eight.

[00:44:16] I have not seen nine, which I believe is directed by our friend Jonathan Frakes, Frakesy.

[00:44:21] And I'm looking forward to it.

[00:44:22] I got to say, how did the stars align that the final episode of the series that kicked

[00:44:29] off this next generation of Star Trek is ending the first night of Trek Long Island?

[00:44:34] Incredible.

[00:44:35] The night before Trek Long Island.

[00:44:38] Yeah, that's right.

[00:44:39] We'll be there.

[00:44:40] So I'm kind of thinking of it.

[00:44:41] But yeah, but yeah, that's, it's amazing.

[00:44:46] I'm sad to see it go.

[00:44:47] I will say I was not a fan of season four.

[00:44:50] I didn't really like season four a whole lot.

[00:44:52] There were aspects of it that I did like, but there were aspects of it that I kind of

[00:44:54] left me scratching my head.

[00:44:56] I have been surprisingly liking this season.

[00:45:01] There have been a couple of things that I'm like, okay, if that never happens again, I'm

[00:45:04] not going to care.

[00:45:05] But I've really, I've really connected with this season so far.

[00:45:09] I'm hoping the last two episodes will keep that connection.

[00:45:12] I know that some people have not liked it.

[00:45:14] Some people have absolutely loved it.

[00:45:17] But it's, it's going away.

[00:45:19] It's going away earlier than what we're used to with past Star Trek seasons, except for

[00:45:26] Enterprise because John Billingsley.

[00:45:28] But no, just kidding.

[00:45:29] Just kidding.

[00:45:30] Just kidding.

[00:45:31] Just joking.

[00:45:32] I have a good friend, John.

[00:45:34] But yeah, it was a surprise.

[00:45:35] I mean, it was a surprise to the, to the entire acting team when all of a sudden they announced

[00:45:39] that season five was the last, they actually had to go back and film some new stuff to

[00:45:43] wrap it up.

[00:45:45] So I'm not really sure how I'm going to react to those final scenes of episode 10, which

[00:45:50] I will definitely watch before we head out to New York next week.

[00:45:56] I feel like I need to watch it again because as you say, there's a lot that occurs in the

[00:46:02] final episode.

[00:46:05] Some of it I expected, some of it I did not expect at all.

[00:46:09] And that's really all uncomfortable saying without necessarily giving something away

[00:46:13] accidentally.

[00:46:14] Yeah.

[00:46:15] I think it's a fitting end for Discovery.

[00:46:18] I think that the people who are huge Discovery fans will absolutely love it and rightfully

[00:46:25] so.

[00:46:26] I think the people who were kind of lukewarm on Discovery will continue to be lukewarm.

[00:46:30] And I'm not going to bother talking about the haters because it's just, it's not worth

[00:46:33] my energy.

[00:46:34] Yep.

[00:46:35] I loved season one.

[00:46:37] I was okay with season two.

[00:46:40] I appreciated aspects of season three.

[00:46:43] Unlike most people, I loved the reason for the burn because I thought it was a great statement

[00:46:47] on grief and loss from the perspective of a child.

[00:46:52] To lose your mother at that age is, it's traumatic.

[00:46:57] And to have that manifest itself as the burn I thought was creative if not a little weird.

[00:47:04] But I appreciated the leap, if you will.

[00:47:06] Sure.

[00:47:07] I didn't like season four at all.

[00:47:09] And so far I'm kind of mixed on season five.

[00:47:13] So there've been episodes of five I thought were fantastic.

[00:47:18] There've been episodes of five I thought were just dull and boring as all get out.

[00:47:23] So I've appreciated lots of individual performances, but I think the finale does a great job of

[00:47:31] wrapping up this sort of progenitor story.

[00:47:36] One of the things that I will say, and it's not really a spoiler, I'll be very careful

[00:47:39] on how I word it, but if anybody has watched any of the season now, even a couple episodes

[00:47:46] and you'll probably have an idea, so it's not really a spoiler, but I am going to talk

[00:47:49] about it because I have to because of the point I want to make.

[00:47:52] One of the things that I love about what Star Trek has done over the course of the last

[00:47:57] 10 years is pull in stuff that we would least expect.

[00:48:00] And I'll give them credit for this whole progenitor thing.

[00:48:01] Nobody would have ever thought we would ever heard about the episode, The Chase, ever

[00:48:05] again, ever.

[00:48:06] So one of the things, Deep Space Nine is our Star Trek.

[00:48:10] It has been for so long.

[00:48:12] So for season three of Picard to pull in so many aspects of Deep Space Nine with the

[00:48:17] Dominion and the changelings and this, that, and the other thing I thought was fantastic.

[00:48:22] For them to do it again here in the final season of Discovery with the Breen is another

[00:48:29] thing that makes me smile.

[00:48:32] Other than DS9, we barely ever even knew anything about the Breen.

[00:48:35] We didn't know, never saw them.

[00:48:37] We never heard them.

[00:48:38] And for them to do it, and I'm not going to say any more about it, about the Breen,

[00:48:43] I really appreciate it.

[00:48:44] Which shows that there are still people out there writing these shows that appreciate

[00:48:48] all of the different aspects of the Star Trek universe and are able to bring things in that

[00:48:55] we would never think would be formidable or an important aspect of a story.

[00:49:02] So I'm very happy with what they did with it.

[00:49:05] Plus I like getting more backstory on the Breen and finding out exactly what they can

[00:49:11] and can't do in those refrigeration suits.

[00:49:13] That's what you sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher just then.

[00:49:18] So you need to work on your Breen impersonation.

[00:49:20] Sorry.

[00:49:22] Because it's really kind of lackluster.

[00:49:24] Sorry, I'm-

[00:49:24] In fact, we'll have you do one for Elias when we're at-

[00:49:27] Oh great, thank you.

[00:49:29] I'm putting you on the spot.

[00:49:31] That's a bad spot to be in.

[00:49:33] Hey, you brought this on yourself, mister.

[00:49:38] Whether you absolutely love Discovery and it's your favorite, or whether or not you watch it

[00:49:43] simply because you're a Star Trek fan, it's time for Discovery to get its due.

[00:49:49] It had five incredibly successful seasons.

[00:49:53] Watch the finale.

[00:49:56] We were talking about the Nielsen streaming ratings earlier.

[00:49:59] It's been in the top 10 pretty much every episode this season.

[00:50:03] And this last episode, I'm sure is not going to be an exception to that.

[00:50:09] We need to be happy about the fact that yet another Trek series completes a successful run

[00:50:16] and has brought so many other fans into Star Trek.

[00:50:20] Now those fans will get to experience what we did for 20 years and just getting to watch

[00:50:25] those shows over and over and over and over.

[00:50:27] Yeah.

[00:50:29] I'm not the first person to do this, but I'm probably the first person on the podcast too.

[00:50:32] And it may be a little early, but I want to give a- and I'm not going to get everybody.

[00:50:36] I'm not going to name everybody.

[00:50:37] But I want to give sincere thanks to people like Sonequa and Doug and Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp,

[00:50:43] Wilson Cruz, all of the people that have been associated with Discovery for bringing Star

[00:50:48] Trek back and doing such a great job and letting the passion of what they're doing show with the

[00:50:54] episodes.

[00:50:55] People, especially like Sonequa and Doug, who have such a love for the craft that they do.

[00:51:01] And it shows every time they're on screen.

[00:51:04] Sadly, Doug was not on screen enough this season.

[00:51:06] I'm going to say that right now.

[00:51:08] He wasn't.

[00:51:08] I wish he was more because Doug is just the most incredible human being.

[00:51:12] But thank you to everybody associated with Discovery for five seasons

[00:51:16] of great Star Trek storytelling.

[00:51:18] Well, and everybody who's written too, from the early seasons, like Ted Sullivan

[00:51:24] and Bowie and Erica, up to present day with Alan McElroy and Sean Cochran and so many other

[00:51:32] writers.

[00:51:32] We don't mean to- if we called out everybody, we'd be here all day.

[00:51:36] Exactly.

[00:51:36] Those are just- to draw the pantheon there, everybody has put a lot of time and effort

[00:51:43] and fandom into creating stories that Star Trek fans would love and that would be worthy

[00:51:48] of Star Trek.

[00:51:49] And we're grateful for the care and feeding that they've put into Discovery because it's

[00:51:56] absolutely Star Trek and should be celebrated as such.

[00:51:59] Thank you for five great seasons of Star Trek is really what it comes down to.

[00:52:04] Yep, absolutely.

[00:52:06] Well, Dan, you and I have a bit of an announcement before we sort of bring things home here.

[00:52:12] Um, is that uh, coming up sort of the middle of next month or so, you and I, let's just

[00:52:20] say we're gonna have some faces for radio going on.

[00:52:24] Yeah, I think that's a good way to put it.

[00:52:26] You came to me with- Dan, I got an idea.

[00:52:28] And normally when that happens, I'm like, oh Christ, here we go.

[00:52:32] But as with all of them-

[00:52:34] You were kind of like that this time too.

[00:52:36] I was.

[00:52:37] As with all of them, I'm like, oh boy, here we go.

[00:52:39] But as soon as you said it, I'm like, yep, I'm good with it.

[00:52:42] We are going to start video recording our podcasts and they will be available.

[00:52:49] The video of our podcast will be available exclusively to Patrionicles at first.

[00:52:55] And then after the episode is released audio in audio form, it will then be released on

[00:53:01] YouTube so everybody can look at our ugly mugs while we talk about the latest topic

[00:53:06] in the Star Trek universe.

[00:53:07] And I'm actually very excited about this.

[00:53:10] It'll be interesting, to say the least.

[00:53:13] Well, and it's not just that the Patrionicles are getting video, they're getting a live

[00:53:17] stream of our recording that they will get to-

[00:53:20] Yes, comment.

[00:53:21] Watch and comment on and potentially interact with us.

[00:53:24] So they will deservedly so get it first.

[00:53:29] We'll do it directly to them.

[00:53:31] And then after a little bit of time, probably after the episode releases, we haven't decided

[00:53:37] exactly when that video from that same recording will be uploaded to YouTube as the episode

[00:53:44] on the YouTube channel.

[00:53:46] So we're kind of getting into video.

[00:53:49] Wow.

[00:53:49] You got to clean up that mug of yours.

[00:53:52] I mean, the coffee mug behind you.

[00:53:54] I'm not being-

[00:53:54] Oh, sorry.

[00:53:55] That's sad.

[00:53:55] Sorry.

[00:53:56] Well, it's an experiment.

[00:53:58] You see the heat lamp over it?

[00:53:59] I'm waiting to see if I can create some kind of medicine that's going to cure the common

[00:54:03] cold.

[00:54:03] There you go.

[00:54:04] No, I'm actually, we talked about it before.

[00:54:06] What's the point of having a podcast where we're just watching two people sit behind

[00:54:10] a microphone, but we've had live streams and they've been successful and people want it

[00:54:15] more.

[00:54:15] So you know what?

[00:54:15] You threw the idea at me and I caught it and I threw it back to you and said, let's do

[00:54:19] it.

[00:54:20] We're doing it.

[00:54:21] We're doing it, baby.

[00:54:23] So yeah, coming up mid June-ish, depending, we got to make sure that Dan actually starts

[00:54:30] taking showers and stuff and cleans himself up for video.

[00:54:34] Because he's, it looks kind of, if you could imagine Pigpen from the Peanuts cartoons,

[00:54:39] that's kind of what he looks like right now.

[00:54:42] But yeah, I'm very excited about it.

[00:54:44] So if you want to get more details or even join our Patreon, you can go to patreon.com

[00:54:50] slash TrekGeeks and you too can see our ugly mugs.

[00:54:55] Some of our Patreons actually wonder if it's a perk and not a punishment.

[00:54:59] Exactly.

[00:54:59] You beat me to it.

[00:55:00] I was going to say some of the Patreons are like, really?

[00:55:03] And we have to pay for that?

[00:55:04] Why would you do that to us?

[00:55:05] Why aren't you paying us now?

[00:55:07] To which we say, you brought this on yourselves, Questron.

[00:55:10] Exactly.

[00:55:12] So yeah, starting in June.

[00:55:14] I think that kind of covers the waterfront as Billingsley would say for the kind of the

[00:55:19] Star Trek news.

[00:55:21] We're looking forward to meeting some of our fellow Trek Geeks podcasters in Long Island.

[00:55:28] We're hoping to put together a massive discovery end of the run reaction panel.

[00:55:36] Yes.

[00:55:38] Which may be in somebody's hotel room early one morning.

[00:55:41] So we'll have to make sure there's coffee and donuts.

[00:55:43] Let's get a memo to the intern about that.

[00:55:46] Yeah, is he going to be?

[00:55:47] Yeah, he's on the East Coast.

[00:55:48] Let's go.

[00:55:49] Adam will be there Saturday, I think.

[00:55:51] Oh, he's not a very good intern, is he?

[00:55:53] Should be there Wednesday.

[00:55:55] He's already asked for our coffee orders.

[00:55:56] Oh, God.

[00:55:57] Wednesday.

[00:55:58] Good intern would be there before we get there.

[00:56:01] You're in Northern Command.

[00:56:02] You're closer, so you'll have to take it with him, with Adam the intern.

[00:56:06] Yes.

[00:56:07] But as far as this is concerned, we'll be in Long Island pretty darn soon.

[00:56:12] If you're going to be there, please, we're going to be in the vendor hall all weekend

[00:56:15] long right next to FanZettes.

[00:56:17] Yay.

[00:56:17] Stop, say hi.

[00:56:18] Yes.

[00:56:19] We love to meet people.

[00:56:21] Whether you've listened for nine straight years or whether you've just started listening,

[00:56:25] please come by, say hi.

[00:56:27] We'll make fun of Dan.

[00:56:28] Yeah.

[00:56:29] Not hard.

[00:56:30] We'll point at him and laugh because he's going to be off doing other things.

[00:56:34] No.

[00:56:35] Oh, Elias Tafaxis is here.

[00:56:37] Run over to his table with FanZettes, and I'm going to be left alone.

[00:56:39] Well, it's because he's interested in seeing me.

[00:56:44] That makes no sense at all.

[00:56:45] Completely not true.

[00:56:47] It's completely true.

[00:56:48] No, he doesn't want to see me.

[00:56:49] I got to go.

[00:56:50] Well.

[00:56:51] Actually, you didn't tell me that because I was at the booth.

[00:56:53] That's true.

[00:56:55] What was I?

[00:56:56] You're with Lou going to see Sonequa.

[00:56:58] Unless something comes up that I'm not expecting, I will be at the booth probably the whole weekend.

[00:57:04] Except for our panels.

[00:57:05] Except the panels.

[00:57:06] Yep.

[00:57:06] Yeah.

[00:57:07] And in case Lou tells me that Elias wants to talk to something, and then I'll just leave.

[00:57:12] I won't tell you.

[00:57:12] Yeah.

[00:57:13] Believe me, I know.

[00:57:15] But Trek Long Island, if you haven't got tickets yet, get on over to treklongisland.com,

[00:57:19] get all the information because this is going to be a fun time.

[00:57:23] People still talk about the fact that they wish there were some of those smaller regional

[00:57:27] Trekons.

[00:57:28] Well, this is it.

[00:57:29] Here we are.

[00:57:30] And it's time to support independent conventions like this, as much as the big ones because

[00:57:35] they're all about celebrating Star Trek.

[00:57:38] And I'm here for it.

[00:57:39] Absolutely.

[00:57:40] I'm there for it.

[00:57:41] We're there for it.

[00:57:43] We are.

[00:57:44] And Dan, you know what else we're there for?

[00:57:45] What are we there for, Bill?

[00:57:46] The Guys in the Band five-year mission.

[00:57:49] Oh, right.

[00:57:54] Wow.

[00:57:55] You're going to work your way into a new lawsuit is what I'm thinking.

[00:58:00] But of course, they are the music you hear on Trek Geeks every week.

[00:58:03] You'll hear them throughout the Trek Geeks podcast network on a good number of our shows.

[00:58:08] But every song they do is one episode of the original Star Trek.

[00:58:14] And these songs, as we've said for so many years, Dan, they're not parody.

[00:58:17] Nope.

[00:58:18] They're not making fun of Star Trek.

[00:58:20] They are creating new ways to think about these episodes through music and lyrics.

[00:58:25] And it is amazing stuff.

[00:58:27] So please, everybody, get on out to fiveyearmission.net.

[00:58:31] Please buy all their CDs.

[00:58:34] You could do digital downloads, but I mean, if you're like Dan, you're going to lose those.

[00:58:38] The CDs, you're going to carry those things around forever.

[00:58:41] Play Frisbee.

[00:58:42] I guarantee you will not play Frisbee with these because they'll be in your CD player-

[00:58:47] Exactly.

[00:58:47] Or your computer spinning these tunes 24-7.

[00:58:49] All the time, yep.

[00:58:51] You're going to be a huge fan of Five Year Mission as we are.

[00:58:53] That's fiveyearmission.net.

[00:58:56] Get those discs, baby.

[00:58:57] Year one, year two, year three, year four, Spock's brain, trouble triples.

[00:59:04] It's that simple.

[00:59:04] Go check them out.

[00:59:05] And like Bill said a moment ago, anybody on the East Coast or close to it,

[00:59:10] head up to Long Island this coming week, next weekend, right after Labor Day weekend.

[00:59:15] It's coming up in a week.

[00:59:15] It's going to be great.

[00:59:16] It's going to be fun.

[00:59:17] I guarantee you show up, you're going to have a farking good time.

[00:59:21] And that's the important thing, people.

[00:59:23] Maybe even, you know, Five Year Mission, they're not that far.

[00:59:26] Mid-East, Midwest rather, Midwestern part of the United States is not far from New York.

[00:59:31] Maybe they should get in their farking car and drive to Trek Long Island as well.

[00:59:36] I'm glad you corrected yourself directionally because the Middle East is quite a ways away.

[00:59:39] Quite a ways away, yes, yes.

[00:59:41] I'm so used to saying Northeast this episode because we've been talking about

[00:59:44] Northeast, you know, Trek Geek Central Command and all that stuff.

[00:59:47] A Central Command, no, no, it's just HQ.

[00:59:50] Oh, okay.

[00:59:51] Northern HQ.

[00:59:52] I like to add stuff onto a sentence, you know that.

[00:59:55] And sometimes it's in English.

[00:59:57] Fiveyearmission.net.

[00:59:58] I have to agree with Dan, it is farkism this week.

[01:00:01] Just, you'll have a great farking time.

[01:00:03] Dan, of course, we talked a little bit about Patreon before, but now

[01:00:07] we want to say thank you to some very special folks.

[01:00:10] We absolutely do.

[01:00:11] We love our Patrionicals.

[01:00:13] We love the fact that they are going to see our ugly mugs pretty soon and comment.

[01:00:17] That should be fun, watching the comments come through and trying not to start laughing

[01:00:21] while we're doing an actual episode.

[01:00:23] That's going to be the challenge because I know there's some of those Patrions out there

[01:00:26] that that's what their mission is going to be, is to screw us up.

[01:00:29] But right now we want to thank our associate producers of Trek Geeks.

[01:00:32] We love them so much and they are Vikram Bhatt, Chad Clark, Corey Clay, Brad DeMagg,

[01:00:38] William Edward M Jr., Andy Fark, Kimberly Francis, Jonathan Hamilton, Ryan Jeffs,

[01:00:43] Sean Lynn, Rick Mason, Jamie McGregor, Ross McKinney, Aaron Mollenkopf, Sarah Ladew,

[01:00:49] Helen Reed, Sarah Rutlinger, Tim Robertson, Desi Rogers, Greg Rozier, Eric Sakian,

[01:00:55] Adam Sanders, Tim Serdar, Heather Sohn, Blake Strike, Lisa Tomlinson, Ron Robel,

[01:01:03] Kalea Zawacki, and the greatest and wonderful Connie Hutchins.

[01:01:07] Wow.

[01:01:07] Yeah.

[01:01:08] That was, I think that's record time that you read that in.

[01:01:10] That's pretty damn good.

[01:01:11] I've been practicing.

[01:01:12] And of course, good for you.

[01:01:13] You've had some time off.

[01:01:15] So I'm glad you were productive.

[01:01:17] Still screwed up one though.

[01:01:18] Yeah, I know.

[01:01:18] We also want to thank our Trek Geeks producers for their support.

[01:01:21] They are Mike Bovia, Steve Bovia, Kyle Castillo, Peter Craig, Andy Davenport,

[01:01:26] Craig Ewing, Jackie and Chris Hackney, Brian Hackwith, Kimberly Hartman, David Hood,

[01:01:31] Lionel Marchand, Matt McGonigle, Jim McMahon, Darren Metcalf, Charlie Mulvey,

[01:01:38] Sean O'Halloran, Casey Pettit, Jamie Rogers, Casey Shafsky, Terry Shull,

[01:01:43] Jim Stoffel, Chris Tribuzio, Christina Werther, and the lovely and talented Jess Vashon.

[01:01:50] Dan, the senior producer of Trek Geeks for now and all time is the phenomenally pleasant

[01:01:57] Jude Tatman.

[01:01:58] I miss that kid.

[01:01:59] I got to tell you, it's been just over a year since I had the opportunity to fly across

[01:02:04] a pond and meet that crazy guy.

[01:02:06] We had a good time.

[01:02:07] Jude, hope you're doing good over there.

[01:02:09] He is the only person who will ever hold the title of senior producer of Trek Geeks.

[01:02:14] And you know, you too can become a producer of Trek Geeks.

[01:02:16] It's so easy to do.

[01:02:17] You won't be senior producer, but you can become a producer.

[01:02:20] Head on over to patreon.com slash trekgeeks for all the details.

[01:02:24] Hey Jude, don't make it bad.

[01:02:27] Take a sad podcast and make it better.

[01:02:32] And Spotify can come after me if they want to.

[01:02:34] I don't give a shit anymore.

[01:02:37] So Dan, next time on Trek Geeks, we hope to bring you some panel audio.

[01:02:41] Yes.

[01:02:42] Of our Say Something Nice panel live Saturday, June 1st, 6 PM in panel room B.

[01:02:48] If you're going to be at Trek Long Island, please come.

[01:02:52] You know, bring...

[01:02:54] Feel free to bring us drinks.

[01:02:55] That's always on the menu.

[01:02:57] Oh, yes.

[01:02:58] Better podcasting through chemicals.

[01:03:02] We should really be clear about that one.

[01:03:03] The wit.

[01:03:04] Better podcasting through drinks.

[01:03:07] And we hope it's going to be a great time.

[01:03:09] We intend to have a lot of fun.

[01:03:11] Oh, without a doubt.

[01:03:12] And there's going to be a lot of prizes.

[01:03:14] So that's next time we convene on Trek Geeks.

[01:03:17] Of course, for even more great Star Trek discussion, you know, there are so many podcasts

[01:03:21] on the Trek Geeks network and so many of them are going to be at Trek Long Island.

[01:03:25] You should really check them all out because they're just fans like you and me who want to

[01:03:29] celebrate Trek and Gene's vision and everything they love about the franchise.

[01:03:34] You can find all the shows on our network by going to trekgeeks.com slash listen.

[01:03:39] Trek Geeks.

[01:03:40] I love that.

[01:03:41] No one talks Trek.

[01:03:43] Like we do.

[01:03:44] No one does.

[01:03:45] Of course, for all the news on all the Star Trek's, yo, please visit our great friends

[01:03:50] at treknews.net, notchillies.com.

[01:03:53] No.

[01:03:55] Well, for now, this has been episode number 313 of the Trek Geeks podcast.

[01:04:01] We do hope you all live long and prosper.

[01:04:04] So, you know, we're going to be in New York next week, right?

[01:04:06] So I got your coconut right here.

[01:04:09] We're going to be in Long Island.

[01:04:10] Oh, well, New York.

[01:04:13] So if we're going to be in Long Island.

[01:04:14] Long Island.

[01:04:15] Where is Short Island?

[01:04:17] Where the short people are.

[01:04:20] Music for Trek Geeks is provided by 5 Year Mission.

[01:04:23] They're writing an original song for each episode of Star Trek.

[01:04:27] Hear more of their music at 5yearmission.net.

[01:04:30] Trek Geeks is a production of Coconut Media Works, executive producers Bill Smith and Dan

[01:04:35] Davidson.

[01:04:36] For more great Star Trek discussion, discover the other shows of the Trek Geeks podcast

[01:04:41] network at trekgeeks.com or find us in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your favorite podcast

[01:04:47] app.

[01:05:24] Bing bong, Dan.

[01:05:25] Hey, pal.

[01:05:26] Hey, can you do me a favor before we start start?

[01:05:29] Can you do bing bong in a semi-Southern accent now that you're in North Carolina?

[01:05:34] You mean now that I'm a Southerner?

[01:05:36] Yeah.

[01:05:36] Go ahead, do it.

[01:05:37] Let's hear it.

[01:05:38] Let's hear it.

[01:05:38] I haven't worked on this.

[01:05:40] This is completely off the cuff.

[01:05:41] I haven't had time to warm up.

[01:05:43] On the spot.

[01:05:43] You know, I haven't done any of my vocal exercises.

[01:05:47] Charcuterie.

[01:05:50] The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue.

[01:05:51] The lips, the teeth, the tip of the tongue.

[01:05:53] Wow.

[01:05:54] I don't even...

[01:05:56] Anti-disestablishmentarianism.

[01:05:59] Whoa.

[01:06:01] Thank you.

[01:06:02] Thank you.

[01:06:02] I don't even know how to spell that.

[01:06:06] Please.

[01:06:08] I don't even think I can repeat it.

[01:06:09] Anti-dysentery, what?

[01:06:10] I don't even remember.

[01:06:11] Yeah, that's exactly what it is, moron.

[01:06:14] Anti-dysentery.

[01:06:15] Yeah.

[01:06:20] Bing bong, y'all.

[01:06:23] No, that was terrible.

[01:06:24] It works.

[01:06:25] That works?

[01:06:25] I'll get bing bong back to you, buddy, from up here, up northern.

[01:06:29] What's up there, bud?

[01:06:30] Good to see ya.

[01:06:30] All right.

[01:06:33] So are you a North Carolinian or a North Carolinian now?

[01:06:36] I believe it's Carolinian.

[01:06:39] Carolinian, I like that.

[01:06:41] North Carolinian.

[01:06:42] I'm a North Carolinian and I want to be on Trek Geeks.

[01:06:51] Welcome to Podfleet Command's southern headquarters.

[01:06:55] I like it.

[01:06:56] I like that.

[01:06:56] As you can see it behind me, I'm creating myself a little podcast nook.

[01:07:00] I gave our Patreons a little bit of a look to it the other day.

[01:07:04] I've got some shelves behind me which will have some collectibles on it and

[01:07:08] those may rotate over time.

[01:07:10] I like it.

[01:07:11] It looks good.

[01:07:12] Looks good.

[01:07:12] Never really had a chance to show off my stuff because I never really had space for it.

[01:07:16] That's what she said.

[01:07:17] Yes, I understand.

[01:07:19] Sorry, I did watch The Office yesterday, so I'm sorry I got a little off.

[01:07:21] Which one?

[01:07:22] Which one?

[01:07:23] Job fair.

[01:07:25] Here's what I want to know.

[01:07:27] Why does Pam think her artwork is still going to be on the wall X number of years later-

[01:07:33] Of course.

[01:07:34] ... having graduated from that high school?

[01:07:36] I know, I know.

[01:07:36] I crashed into a sand trap.

[01:07:41] Sorry, sorry, I went off on a tangent there.

[01:07:43] I'm sorry, that never happens here.

[01:07:45] Got some blisties.

[01:07:48] Jeez.

[01:07:50] 1,200 balls, oh my God.

[01:07:52] I'm going to do something I've never done in this job before.

[01:07:55] Try.

[01:07:58] It's kind of like you with Trek Geeks, except we're still waiting.

[01:08:01] We're still waiting.

[01:08:02] We are still waiting, and we're going to wait even longer.

[01:08:04] So you're the southern headquarters now, I guess you could call it.

[01:08:06] That's right.

[01:08:07] Would I be in the northeastern annex of the Trek Geeks podcast?

[01:08:11] Oh no, no, you're northern HQ.

[01:08:12] All right, I like that.

[01:08:13] Okay, all right.

[01:08:15] Thank you.

[01:08:16] You are in command there squarely in the newest of Hampshire's.

[01:08:20] That could be dangerous.

[01:08:23] Being in charge of anything is like a crap shoot.

[01:08:26] Or just crap, I don't even know.

[01:08:30] So here's one thing I've had to get used to, right?

[01:08:32] So these developments that are popping up in our town,

[01:08:35] they're all in old farmland, right?

[01:08:38] Yeah.

[01:08:39] And there's still a lot of farms in the area.

[01:08:41] I mean, if you drove out here, you'd be like,

[01:08:43] dude, you live in the middle of nowhere, but I really don't.

[01:08:47] A lot of these roads, which are two lane roads, right?

[01:08:51] Are 55 miles an hour.

[01:08:53] Oh, quick roads.

[01:08:56] I mean, it seems really weird to be traveling that fast on a road that tiny.

[01:09:03] It's not in your immediate neighborhood though.

[01:09:05] Yes, it is.

[01:09:06] Oh, so like right outside your house is 55 miles an hour?

[01:09:09] No, we live in a development, but right outside the development,

[01:09:11] literally 30 seconds away, it's 55.

[01:09:14] All right, just wanted to make sure that in your development,

[01:09:16] you can still walk the dog without fear of life.

[01:09:20] Okay, that's good.

[01:09:21] There are plenty of houses on these roads, right?

[01:09:24] On these 55 mile an hour roads, takes a little getting used to.

[01:09:28] Oh, I can imagine.

[01:09:29] Because people come right up behind you, they will have no problem at all passing you.

[01:09:35] Yeah.

[01:09:35] Whether it's a passing zone or not.

[01:09:37] Not fun, not fun.

[01:09:40] That's probably the biggest adjustment so far.

[01:09:42] I wonder if it's up here.

[01:09:43] Up here we have like 30 mile an hour zones and people go like 50.

[01:09:47] So do people go 65, 70 in the 55?

[01:09:51] A little bit, but from what I've seen so far, they kind of keep it to the 55.

[01:09:56] That's good.

[01:09:57] I can't drive 55.

[01:09:58] Oh gosh.

[01:10:02] Sorry.

[01:10:03] That's the age you and I both hit this year.

[01:10:06] Oh, why'd you have to go there?

[01:10:08] Because you're old.

[01:10:11] And you'll always be older than me.

[01:10:13] I will, I will always be older than you and wiser.

[01:10:16] Ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding.

[01:10:22] Anyway.

[01:10:23] I have not seen, I've seen one Confederate flag sticker.

[01:10:31] Okay.

[01:10:32] On one vehicle.

[01:10:34] I see more up here.

[01:10:36] Exactly, to be fair.

[01:10:38] This car also had like those fake testicles hanging off its trim.

[01:10:43] Oh yes, yes, yeah.

[01:10:44] You think they were fake.

[01:10:46] Yeah.

[01:10:47] For all I know.

[01:10:47] Hey, you never know, right?

[01:10:51] They were orange, so they could have been Trump's balls for all I know.

[01:10:55] He doesn't have any, what are you talking about?

[01:10:56] Oh wait, yeah, he doesn't have any.

[01:10:58] I can't wait for the hate mail to start, sorry.

[01:11:00] I know, right?

[01:11:01] I don't care, I hate him.

[01:11:02] But so far we're almost four weeks into being down here, which is amazing to think of.

[01:11:08] It is.

[01:11:08] And we still love it.

[01:11:10] We have not regretted the decision once.

[01:11:12] I don't think you will.

[01:11:14] It's, we love our house.

[01:11:16] Our fence is going in within the next couple of weeks for Isabella.

[01:11:19] Very, very good.

[01:11:20] So tangent, okay?

[01:11:22] Where we catch everybody up on living in North Carolina.

[01:11:26] So Kelly like two years ago bought Isabella a kiddie pool.

[01:11:31] Oh I know, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[01:11:33] We finally broke it out yesterday.

[01:11:35] Yeah.

[01:11:36] After we bought a hose, because it was hot yesterday.

[01:11:38] Such a cute video.

[01:11:40] And Isabella was all about it.

[01:11:43] In fact, she dragged us out after that, like a couple hours later, just to go to the kiddie

[01:11:49] pool.

[01:11:49] She made us think she had to go outside and go potty.

[01:11:51] Yeah, nope.

[01:11:52] Nope, she went right in the kiddie pool.

[01:11:53] Splash.

[01:11:54] And I love how she's digging at the bottom.

[01:11:56] Oh yeah.

[01:11:56] It's a great video you posted.

[01:11:58] No, that's awesome.

[01:11:59] No, I'm glad, I'm glad that she has adapted well.

[01:12:03] I've got some miley news since we're talking about puppies.

[01:12:05] Oh yeah, that's true.

[01:12:07] So we've had her for about a month and a half, right around there.

[01:12:10] And she's fantastic.

[01:12:12] The foster person, we send her videos and she's like, she's a completely different dog.

[01:12:17] She's so happy.

[01:12:18] She's so energetic.

[01:12:19] But the other night, this was hysterical.

[01:12:21] It was Monday night or Tuesday night.

[01:12:22] I was outside with her and she was ready to come in.

[01:12:25] So she came running up the stairs to the deck and instantly shot towards the door to go

[01:12:31] in the house just really fast.

[01:12:32] She just wanted to run in the house really fast.

[01:12:34] I tried to stop her because the screen door was closed and that didn't go too well.

[01:12:41] She went right through the screen door, completely didn't rip the screen, but popped it completely

[01:12:46] out of the rubber, out of the track.

[01:12:49] So I was able to save it.

[01:12:51] But after that happened, of course she was scared, wasn't really sure what was going

[01:12:54] on.

[01:12:54] So as a result of that, finally she has slept on our bed every night since that happened.

[01:12:59] And I don't think she'll ever not sleep on our bed now.

[01:13:01] Oh, that's amazing.

[01:13:03] So bad thing to a good thing.

[01:13:04] Yeah.

[01:13:05] She's a smart dog.

[01:13:07] That's awesome.

[01:13:08] I loved it.

[01:13:08] So last night we had some really bad thunderstorms here.

[01:13:11] So I got like 1.30 in the morning.

[01:13:13] It freaked Isabella out because it was dark.

[01:13:16] And so she came up and sat right by my head.

[01:13:21] And then after that, she decided to curl up in between us.

[01:13:24] But the problem is that she was facing Kelly.

[01:13:27] So every time I'd turn over and roll onto my side, Isabella goes, oh, I have room.

[01:13:32] I'm going to stretch out.

[01:13:34] So I wound up sleeping on that side for the rest of the night.

[01:13:38] And I had a sliver of the bed left.

[01:13:42] That dog, she's only 50 pounds.

[01:13:44] She will take up all the room if you let her.

[01:13:46] And it's hilarious.

[01:13:47] And we won't do anything to make ourselves more comfortable?

[01:13:50] No.

[01:13:51] No.

[01:13:51] Of course not.

[01:13:51] Not at all.

[01:13:53] No.

[01:13:53] Of course not.

[01:13:53] I'll sleep on the floor if she gets me that far.

[01:13:56] I think your wife's been hoping for that for years, quite frankly.

[01:14:00] She's been very good though.

[01:14:01] She'll, she starts right up in between us and we pat her for a little while.

[01:14:05] And then she gets up and goes right to the very end of the bed and stays there all night.

[01:14:09] Oh, wow.

[01:14:10] Yep.

[01:14:10] She's so good.

[01:14:11] Isabella used to do that.

[01:14:12] Yeah, she's so good.

[01:14:14] For the last two weeks, I have woken up with Isabella adhered to me,

[01:14:18] which is an amazing development because before it was always Kelly.

[01:14:23] So now, you know, Isabella is, I don't want to say she's chilling out,

[01:14:28] but we have no idea what her history was, you know, the first six years of her life or so.

[01:14:33] So for all I know, she could have been mistreated by a man or just had really negative,

[01:14:39] you know, interactions with men.

[01:14:41] Right.

[01:14:42] So the fact that, you know, I've got a Velcro dog first thing in the morning, I will take it.

[01:14:46] I like it.

[01:14:47] I'm glad that she's adjusting.

[01:14:48] I'm glad you're adjusting.

[01:14:50] We have adjusted with you being gone in so many ways.

[01:14:54] But in all seriousness, I'm glad everything's going well, man.

[01:14:57] Very good.

[01:14:58] Very good to hear.

[01:14:59] We've adjusted amazingly.

[01:15:00] I like having this breathing room away from you.

[01:15:04] You being seven minutes away before was way too close.

[01:15:06] Oh, that's going to change in about five days.

[01:15:11] Oh, damn, that's right.

[01:15:13] At least you don't have to ride in a car with me.

[01:15:16] 24 seven for five full days.

[01:15:20] Twenty four.

[01:15:23] Seven.

[01:15:24] I just want to point out, I would only do this for Trek Long Island.

[01:15:27] Wait, that's not true because I'm going to do it for Vegas.

[01:15:30] That's even longer.

[01:15:31] So yeah, congratulations.

[01:15:33] Shit.

[01:15:34] Actually, it's not 24 seven, it's 24 five because we're not going to be there for seven days.

[01:15:37] So I was wrong again.

[01:15:39] I didn't even catch it.

[01:15:41] It's just a usual phrase.

[01:15:43] Your intent was to say all day, every day, and I get it.

[01:15:45] Right.

[01:15:46] If we were on Bajor, it would have been 28 seven.

[01:15:48] So.

[01:15:49] No, it was 26.

[01:15:50] 26, 26, seven.

[01:15:52] Yep.

[01:15:52] 26, seven, hike.

[01:15:53] Way to go, superfan1701.

[01:15:57] I knew that was coming.

[01:15:59] It's been a while since I've hauled out superfan.

[01:16:01] We're nine and a half years into this.

[01:16:02] I know.

[01:16:03] I should be using that more.

[01:16:04] You should, you should.

[01:16:06] So Trek Long Island, I can't tell you how psyched I am to be making this trip.

[01:16:13] Yeah.

[01:16:14] It's nice to go to an East Coast con.

[01:16:17] I know there's a Galaxy Con here in Raleigh this fall, which we may have to do someday

[01:16:23] simply just because it's, Galaxy cons are huge as you know.

[01:16:28] But I am, I'm stoked.

[01:16:30] I'm ready for this.

[01:16:31] Like you read about.

[01:16:33] That's awesome.

[01:16:34] No, I cannot wait.

[01:16:35] It's going to be a quick trip when you think about it.

[01:16:38] I'm driving down to Connecticut and jumping on a ferry and then driving to Hop Hog.

[01:16:44] And it should only be a few hours.

[01:16:47] So that's pretty awesome.

[01:16:48] And then you'll be there and then it won't be as awesome, but that's okay.

[01:16:51] I'm still going to be a fun time.

[01:16:55] Sorry, I'm just kidding.

[01:16:56] Don't cry.

[01:16:57] It's all right.

[01:16:58] No, I was trying to listen to see if I heard thunder and I.

[01:17:01] Oh, okay.

[01:17:02] I thought you were just about because I was being a funny man, Mr. Funny Man.

[01:17:06] Wait, you were funny?

[01:17:07] When does that start?

[01:17:08] Every once in a while it happens.

[01:17:10] I believe I'm flying into Ice Slip.

[01:17:11] So yes, you are like 20 minutes from the hotel.

[01:17:15] I think it's actually 16 minutes because I did the check because I'll be driving to the

[01:17:18] airport on Monday morning when we go.

[01:17:20] Sorry.

[01:17:21] So sorry.

[01:17:22] We've also been told that we need to go to FanX at some point.

[01:17:25] Out in Salt Lake?

[01:17:27] Yes.

[01:17:27] Our dear friend Haley has said that we need to go out there at some point.

[01:17:31] So she has been telling us that for years, in all fairness, and you have dismissed her

[01:17:35] every single time.

[01:17:36] Wow.

[01:17:36] I do not think so at all.

[01:17:38] That is untrue.

[01:17:38] Completely.

[01:17:39] I know that's a fact.

[01:17:40] You're like, I'm not going to Utah.

[01:17:41] You can't even drink there.

[01:17:43] And I'm like, well, yes, you can.

[01:17:46] There are plenty of people in Utah who drink.

[01:17:47] I mean, they have sports teams for God's sake.

[01:17:49] She's very excited.

[01:17:51] You're like, no, I'm not going there.

[01:17:52] Yeah.

[01:17:52] Okay.

[01:17:54] She's very excited because Jason Isaacs is going to be there this year, which is actually

[01:17:57] pretty cool.

[01:17:58] Harry Potter slash Star Trek.

[01:18:00] A little mix in there.

[01:18:01] He was so, so nice in Vegas a few years ago.

[01:18:05] Yeah.

[01:18:06] He was conversational.

[01:18:10] He's a big movie star, right?

[01:18:11] He's been in so many things.

[01:18:14] You expect that he's maybe going to maybe not be as accessible as some of the newer

[01:18:19] other Star Trek cast members who are of sort of a newer age of social media.

[01:18:26] No, he could not have been more gracious.

[01:18:30] That's great.

[01:18:30] I will always remember that about Jason Isaacs because I've been a fan of his for a long time.

[01:18:34] Very cool.

[01:18:35] I think we'll get out there someday.

[01:18:37] He plays a great villain.

[01:18:38] He does.

[01:18:39] He really does.

[01:18:40] And I love the villains.

[01:18:41] I'm the villain guy.

[01:18:42] So yeah, absolutely.

[01:18:44] You are a villain.

[01:18:45] I am.

[01:18:45] That's right.

[01:18:46] Don't mess with me.

[01:18:47] You're like my villain.

[01:18:49] You're like my arch nemesis.

[01:18:50] Yeah, that's right.

[01:18:52] That's right.

[01:18:52] Mm-hmm.

[01:18:53] Senya Shepson.

[01:18:54] Yeah.

[01:18:55] And I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddlesome kids.

[01:19:02] Yeah, I'm aware what it is.

[01:19:03] Thank you, Jason.

[01:19:04] I love that.

[01:19:05] Roo-bee-roo!

[01:19:09] Anyway.

[01:19:10] That's pretty good.

[01:19:11] Thank you.

[01:19:11] Thank you.

[01:19:11] I've got so many questions, none of them appropriate for the podcast.

[01:19:14] All right.

[01:19:15] They are appropriate for the bar in Long Island, though.

[01:19:17] Then it shall happen.

[01:19:19] Then it shall happen.

[01:19:19] By the way, I do have to apologize.

[01:19:21] I know you're going to give me shit and everything like that, but I do have to apologize.

[01:19:25] We did not get to do a Charleston Chew Martini before you left for North Carolina,

[01:19:29] and that's on me.

[01:19:30] We'll have to figure out a way to do it either in Long Island or in Vegas.

[01:19:34] I have the recipe, so it's just a question of making it.

[01:19:37] So it'll happen.

[01:19:41] It's a shame that we can't do it.

[01:19:43] It's a shame we can't rent a space in Vegas and have Dan's martini hour.

[01:19:51] I'm being serious here.

[01:19:53] Where you mix martinis for people, and it could be a small gathering, like maybe 20

[01:19:59] people or so.

[01:20:00] Maybe all of them.

[01:20:03] Because Vegas is just so cost-prohibitive for everything.

[01:20:06] It is.

[01:20:06] It really is.

[01:20:07] Yep.

[01:20:07] And I get it.

[01:20:08] I mean, it's the job of businesses out there to make money.

[01:20:11] But I mean, if you want to do a small thing, it's just it's hard not to do it without it

[01:20:17] costing an astronomical amount per head.

[01:20:19] Yep, exactly.

[01:20:20] I agree.

[01:20:20] That's too bad.

[01:20:21] Yeah, cannoli tini is my thing right now.

[01:20:23] Might be Sue's favorite ever.

[01:20:25] Wow.

[01:20:26] Yeah, we tried the one at Copper Door, and I've kind of built up on it, and she absolutely

[01:20:31] loves it.

[01:20:31] Yeah.

[01:20:32] No, I thought the one at Copper Door was a little too sweet.

[01:20:35] Yeah, and she does not like sweet drinks, but she loves the one I did.

[01:20:38] I don't know what I've done to cut back on the sweetness from what they do, because

[01:20:42] we don't have the exact measurements from Copper Door, but she loves it.

[01:20:45] I like it.

[01:20:46] Love it.

[01:20:46] Our neighbor loves it, too.

[01:20:47] She came over and had one.

[01:20:48] It was pretty good.

[01:20:49] Wow.

[01:20:49] Yeah.

[01:20:50] I would come over for one of those, but...

[01:20:52] Well, you're a long way away.

[01:20:54] Never got an invite before I left.

[01:20:57] So thanks.

[01:20:58] Take that as you will.

[01:21:01] Wow.

[01:21:03] Anyway.

[01:21:05] Yeah.

[01:21:06] Yeah.

[01:21:07] Do you know what I've learned driving from New Hampshire to North Carolina twice in the

[01:21:12] span of six days?

[01:21:14] What's that?

[01:21:15] I hate driving through Connecticut.

[01:21:17] Oh, Connecticut's not fun at all.

[01:21:20] The roads are horrible.

[01:21:22] People say, you know, New Jersey's terrible.

[01:21:24] No, no, no.

[01:21:25] New Jersey is fine.

[01:21:27] I sailed through New Jersey.

[01:21:29] Connecticut, I was worried that my car was just going to get damaged, and you get those

[01:21:33] rest areas right on the highway with no ramp up time to get back.

[01:21:40] It's just dangerous, and some of the bridges look like they're going to fall apart.

[01:21:43] Yeah.

[01:21:43] I remember a few years ago, we drove down to Orlando to pick up Rebecca and her stuff and

[01:21:49] bring it back to Maine, and it was downpour the entire time we were driving through Connecticut,

[01:21:56] and it was a tense drive.

[01:21:58] I love driving.

[01:21:58] I did not love driving through Connecticut in a downpour for, like, two and a half hours.

[01:22:04] Now, some people are going to be asking, why did you drive from New Hampshire to North

[01:22:07] Carolina twice in the span of six days?

[01:22:09] Well, it's because my wife and I drove down with Isabella first, got them settled in

[01:22:14] a Verbo.

[01:22:15] I came back to meet the movers, and then I had to take my car down.

[01:22:19] So that's kind of how that happened.

[01:22:20] But what is that on your shirt?

[01:22:23] Is that Captain Caveman?

[01:22:24] This is a throwback shirt that we all got special shirts for Disney, which was awesome.

[01:22:31] We just got back a couple of weeks ago.

[01:22:32] And this is a mixture of Haunted Mansion, the three ghosts, and the Mr. Toad ride that

[01:22:39] is no longer in Disney World.

[01:22:41] So that's Mr. Toad and the three ghosts from Haunted Mansion.
