[00:00:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm reading something that was written for me and I think they could have done better.
[00:00:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So this is not me, this is them.
[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_01]: My prescription for you is a healthy dose of the Trek Geeks Podcast starring Dan Davidson
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and Bill.
[00:00:57] [SPEAKER_01]: He could have done better Smith.
[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_01]: It truly is the best medicine.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, come on boys.
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: And here's how they close it.
[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Doctors orders shame, Tisk, Tisk for the record.
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_05]: That was Dan Davidson that wrote that was me.
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Wow, that's even better because now it's forever blamed on Bill.
[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: That's forever blamed on Bill.
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Mr. Bacula.
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_05]: From the travel office at Pod Fleet Command, it's the biggest little show this out of the Alpha Quad
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_05]: written a flagship of the Trek Geeks Podcast Network.
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Greetings to you, travelers one and all, and welcome to the Trek Geeks Podcast.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm your co-host Bill Smith.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_05]: So great to be here with you for episode number three hundred sixteen.
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I think that's where we're at.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, three sixteen.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_05]: You're not supposed to talk yet.
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Stop it.
[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Stop it.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_05]: You're inevitable.
[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, OK.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_05]: So glad, so glad to be here, even if I'm here with this guy.
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_05]: He is, let's just say, if I were traveling, which I'm doing just a handful of days,
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_05]: I would strand him at the nearest airport in a heartbeat.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Because if you've ever traveled with him, you would know what I mean.
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_05]: He's the largely strandable Dan Davidson and Dan.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Welcome aboard Machacho.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, pal.
[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_03]: It's it's good to be here.
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_03]: It's getting close, man.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_03]: It is getting close.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be weird not traveling with you out to the desert, but
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_03]: it's right around the corner and it's a little scared, a little scared.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_05]: You scared me? Hold your hand.
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm going to be flying by myself.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, Christina, worth it showed up on time.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't we just get started.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's get right that off the bat.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_05]: And I just want to point out we have comments in the streets tonight.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_05]: We have no idea why.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_05]: No idea why. No idea why they're working and we're just going with it.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_05]: You know what else we're going with, Dan?
[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Tonight is our pre Vegas episode.
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_05]: We are this is the one we look forward to like on the calendar.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_05]: We usually circle the date almost like an NFL team facing their biggest rival.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_05]: But we're going to talk about an episode that really kind of gives Picard
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_05]: a chance to breathe a little maybe.
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, go on vacation and that's what we're doing in just a couple of days
[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_03]: heading out to Vegas.
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_03]: So why not talk about another vacation-esque episode?
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_03]: If that's a word, I'll go with it.
[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_03]: You know me. I don't know English very well.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_03]: So we're going to talk about Captain's holiday tonight.
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Fun episode.
[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got some people that we're used to seeing kind of.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got a side of Picard we don't usually see.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's got some weird little little statues running around
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_03]: trying to get some action most of the day.
[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's that's fun too.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_05]: A side of Picard we don't normally see as long as it's not his backside
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_05]: like we see in She-N-Tive Command.
[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm totally fine with that.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_03]: We do see a very tight bathing suit backside bathing suit
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_03]: on Picard, unfortunately.
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Not really what I'm looking for as far as my experiences with Jean-Luc Picard.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Jean-Luc Picard.
[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_05]: So Dan, before we get to business here,
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_05]: let's resurrect a feature of previous live streams that we've done.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's what are you drinking?
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, well, why don't you go first?
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Because mine has with anything with me.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's long.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's complicated.
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's going to take a couple of times to try to say it right.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_05]: So Dan, are you drinking Picard in his Speedos?
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that'd be like that'd be kind of like a sweat martini.
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I think we could call that if that was the case.
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I'm going to I'm going to go very quickly first.
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I was talking about this on Discord a little bit tonight or earlier last night,
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_05]: whatever the hell it was, because I'm I'm losing control.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm just drinking some bourbon using one of my custom Trek Geeks ice cubes
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_05]: that you see there for my ice mold.
[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_05]: It's the Freeland Freeland distilleries bourbon.
[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_05]: It's an all female owned distillery.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_05]: The bourbon is crafted by women.
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Their words, not mine.
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_05]: So it is a it's really kind of amazing and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_03]: What about you?
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty I'm sure it's pretty awesome.
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I have right here.
[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to hold this up for the camera so that our
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_03]: patronicals can see it in those later.
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_03]: This is called a banana hammock.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I said it and it's kind of you know, and we're doing it during Captain's holiday.
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So it makes sense.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Or what Dan will be wearing in Vegas.
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So anybody who knows what a hot and dirty martini is,
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_03]: we'll get an idea of what this is.
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_03]: This is basically vodka with olive juice and a hot and dirty.
[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Usually we'll have pepper and chini juice, but this one instead
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_03]: has banana pepper juice.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Hence the name.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks to my sister.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_03]: She named it the banana hammock.
[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's awesome.
[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I also have in here we got some ice molds and we have Bill for a hundred.
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Why is your sister talking about you in a banana hammock?
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_05]: That's what I know.
[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_03]: It was her drink.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I just have started to drink it as well now.
[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So she's drinking her husband's.
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_05]: So you're drinking a martini out of her husband's banana hammock.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, I'm going to Vegas.
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Why not?
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, let me finish my story now.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_03]: So we bought some ice molds and we filled them with olive juice,
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_03]: a little like this big filled them with all of juice and an olive.
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_03]: So I have an olive juice ice cube in there along with two Feta stuffed olives.
[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So there you go.
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_05]: This sounds incredibly complex and much harder than my just pouring
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_03]: two and a half ounces of bourbon and old Bay seasoning for a little extra spice.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I'm kind of perplexed by this old Bay seasoning.
[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_03]: And I got that from down in Florida, one of the restaurants in Disney World.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Their Bloody Mary is rimmed with old with the old Bay seasoning and it's phenomenal.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I have there's so much to digest here.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_05]: It's good.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Literally.
[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm done with you.
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Quick comment because Sarah from Rewind is watching right now.
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Brad Demaggs has enjoyed the Rewind Episode 54 Impostors with Rowan Picard.
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Great episode of Rewind.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_05]: If you haven't downloaded yet, please go do so.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Sarah and Haley, we love them dearly and we can't wait to see Sarah and Vegas.
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_03]: But Bill, what episode of Rewind isn't incredible?
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll just point that out.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I was just commenting on the episode that got brought up.
[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_05]: You don't even listen to this podcast.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_03]: You sure as shit don't listen to that one.
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I listen to everything except you, my friend.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_03]: That's such a lie.
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_03]: That is such a lie.
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what to do with you.
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_05]: The one thing I forgot to do before we started this whole charade was sort of like queue up.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_05]: What comes next?
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So if you want to blather on for a second, I'm going to do that.
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I can blather on.
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I felt like going Thanos today instead of Trek, but I did put in a little bit of my
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Star Trek.
[00:08:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So I got a Horgon right here.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_03]: So I am inevitably Horgonian tonight with my T-shirt.
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm sorry, do you say Horgonian?
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Horgonian, yes.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_03]: That is that is the the adjectival verb of Horgon.
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_05]: The Organians weren't they the people in Aaron de Mercy?
[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of Organians, but it has nothing to do with an Organian.
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I saw today that it looks like maybe the San Diego Comic Con special ornament is a Telojian.
[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_03]: What?
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes, I saw a couple posts on Facebook this afternoon.
[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I hope I don't know what to do with this everywhere.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just I'm giving you the news, man, giving you the news.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Of course, we want to take a moment to thank our friends and fans
[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_05]: that's for being the presenting sponsor of Trek Eaks.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, indeed we do, man, and has been the case for several years now.
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_03]: There are no new releases on the website in anticipation of STLV, which starts next week.
[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_03]: But boy, do we have some amazing things to share with you right now.
[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Now, Patrions, Patrionicles,
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_03]: whatever we want to call you tonight,
[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_03]: we ask that you please do not share this information,
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_03]: including any images until after the full announcement by fansets
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_03]: over the upcoming weekend of July 27th.
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_03]: We want to make sure that this is just between us, our Patreon family
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_03]: for the time being and we want to respect their wishes.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_03]: But all of these amazing pins will be available at STLV.
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_03]: And once the convention's over, they're going to be available over at fansets.com.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And to start us off, the newest in the universe of Trek is good old one eye
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_03]: himself, General Martok from Deep Space Nine.
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_03]: And after you get the pin, you know, I love General Martok and I love that glitter.
[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_03]: The batlet is there.
[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03]: The house of Martok symbol looks awesome.
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Also, as we saw last week, the Vegas poker chip for 2024
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_03]: will feature everyone's favorite Tlaxi and Neelix.
[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So we can look forward to seeing that in just a few days.
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: There's also an incredible special lower decks STLV exclusive,
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_03]: which is going to be available out there in the desert.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I really love this one.
[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got all the characters.
[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_03]: It's got all the glitter.
[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_03]: It's great. And hey, when you're at the fansets booth in Vegas,
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_03]: be sure to pick up your Picard season two confederation captain's delta
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_03]: or as I like to call it, the throat slasher.
[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And also you're going to want to pick up the discovery rear admiral delta
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_03]: as well. And hey, I got to say this right now, not a news alert,
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_03]: not a black alert, not a news flash just about with every year.
[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_03]: You can damn well expect that there's going to be a couple of other
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_03]: unannounced surprises available to purchase over at the fan set table
[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_03]: in the vendors room bill.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Lots of great new pins to expect, Dan, in Vegas.
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So everyone, even if you're not going to STLV,
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_05]: head on over to fansets, grab a whole bunch of pins and accessories.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_05]: And then a check out.
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Be sure to enter the special discount code TREKEEKS for 10 percent off your entire order.
[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_05]: That's right, TREKEEKS in all capital letters with no spaces.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And of course, as I remind you every week, don't forget that when you spend
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_05]: more than $30 on fansets.com, you will automatically get free shipping within the United States.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Fansets, our pins have character.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And we thank our friends at fansets for being the presenting sponsor of TREKEEKS.
[00:12:16] Oh, wow.
[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_03]: It's almost like we know what we're doing.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And it just rolls off the tongue like a banana hammock.
[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Martini.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you for clarifying that because I'm not sure that a banana hammock
[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_05]: really should ever roll off the tongue.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know, but I'm guessing it really shouldn't.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Yum.
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_05]: So, Dan, on to our main topic of conversation, and that is the episode Captain's Holiday.
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Season three, if memory serves.
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Written by Ira Steven Baer and directed by Chip Chalmers.
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_05]: So with Ira, you would expect a script that is pretty damn amazing.
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I would agree with that.
[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_05]: I would say on the whole that this one is OK.
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_05]: It's fun, but it's got a couple of issues that we just can't get past.
[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_03]: It does.
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_03]: This is not one of my my most favorite issues.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And in our opinion on this might be different than a lot of other people.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I think a lot of other people love this episode.
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_03]: We get to see Picard trying to relax.
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_03]: We get to see him hanging out with the beautiful femme fatale in the episode.
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's and that's great.
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_03]: But there are there are some things that that just don't rub me the right way.
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_03]: And again, you know, the Horgon and everything.
[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, exactly.
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_03]: This was actually episode 19 of season three.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Guess guest starring Jennifer Hedrick is Vash, who we will also see in season four
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_03]: in the episode Cupid.
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we're going to see her again in deep space nine season one, Q-less.
[00:13:52] [SPEAKER_03]: All three episodes.
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not a huge fan of.
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll just put that out there right now.
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Is it is Vash the common denominator?
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_03]: We'll just have to find out.
[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Also, some guy named Leroy Ler.
[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly. Max Gretenshek, some guy named Max Gretenshek is in this episode.
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_03]: He plays the Ferengi Sovak.
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think we see him some other show somewhere as a as a Ferengi.
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not really sure.
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Karen Landry is a female Vorgon Azure and Michael Champion is the male Vorgon
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Baradis, those are the main guest stars in this episode.
[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's talk about those Vorgons for a second, Bill, just to start off
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_03]: on on a high note.
[00:14:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Worst uniforms ever.
[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like you were borrowing from Wesley's closet.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_03]: They are layered horribly.
[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_03]: They look terrible.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think and and anybody watching right now, let me know in the comments.
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's the same material that they use Picard and Vash when
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_03]: they're camping out in the cave sleeping under the stars.
[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's the exact same material.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_03]: And they have mittens like the travelers.
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't get it.
[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what's going on.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm done.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not sure what Wardrobe was doing with this.
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_05]: This costume, Michael Westmore's makeup, of course, is amazing.
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_05]: He creates something unique and I don't know what that nubbin is on the top
[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_05]: of their head. Quite frankly, I'm a little concerned by it.
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a transporter because that's what they always hit with their
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_03]: mittens. They're like, ding.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, let me let me share that part of the screen because I happen to have it up.
[00:15:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, well, there you go.
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_03]: The makeup is the makeup is weird in and of itself, I would say.
[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_03]: They got layers and layers of nose ridges and color and the little beepity
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_03]: beep thing. And they also kind of have a like a perengie
[00:15:41] [SPEAKER_03]: headdress on the back of their heads, too.
[00:15:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Very strange.
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_05]: I it's like it's like they've got a wart on the top of their heads.
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not quite sure what's going on with that.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: It's as if they have some kind of cybernetics built into their system
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_03]: the way that they do things.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And maybe if they touch it with their regular hand, they'd be electrocuted.
[00:16:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Hence the oven mitts. I don't know.
[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, something I was going to say earlier and I forgot because I'm old
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_05]: and forgetful and some might say dumb like you.
[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_05]: But if you're going to Vegas and you come to the booth,
[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_05]: come by and say banana hammock.
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_05]: And we'll make sure you get one of these trek Eegs Delta pins
[00:16:20] [SPEAKER_05]: and Daniel pose in his banana hammock with you.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_05]: So there you go.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't remember signing that contract.
[00:16:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's it's in your contract.
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, well, you heard it right here.
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess I can't I can't say no to something like that, though.
[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Can I know you really can't speak?
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be.
[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Through.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_05]: I love the premise of this episode because, I mean,
[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_05]: the card is a guy who just is always Uberserious, right?
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_05]: He he's always, you know, deep in negotiations with something
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_05]: or first contact or whatever.
[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I already did that comment.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Cut it out.
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_05]: I liked it.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_05]: You should pay attention earlier.
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I did.
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, man, anytime you see me, you put it on more than once.
[00:17:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_03]: So.
[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_05]: I love the idea that the card is going to take a forced vacation.
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_05]: The thing I love more is that Riker is like a teenage schoolboy
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_05]: because the card is getting ready and he just wants to get this dude laid.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he does. Absolutely.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I will say he's got a smile on his face the whole time he's talking about.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And did I tell you about the women?
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_03]: He's one of those.
[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_03]: But on the bridge that they say, how was the conference you were at?
[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And he actually Captain Picard does his best impersonation of Odo.
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_03]: He goes, everything went great.
[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_03]: He did a great job.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And he looks at him.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_03]: He goes, and he turns around and walks into the ready room.
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_03]: It's I love it.
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I really don't feel like Picard is the kind of guy who could ever take a vacation.
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, I mean, just on principle,
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I bet you the entire time he was in command of the Stargazer,
[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_05]: there wasn't a single shore leaf.
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_05]: There wasn't a single, you know, vacation taken.
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_05]: He was on the bridge of that ship or, you know, on it.
[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_05]: If he wasn't on an away mission 100 percent of the time.
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_05]: That's my theory.
[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_03]: If he wanted to take a vacation on that ship, he could.
[00:18:14] [SPEAKER_03]: But he could just look out the window and gaze at the stars on the star.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I hate you so much right now.
[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, I'm sorry, I've had a little bit of my drink and my banana hammocking.
[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm just kidding.
[00:18:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we never get to see.
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And even when he's on the planet, he's not even when he's relaxing, he's not relaxed.
[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_03]: He is the ultimate non-vacation person.
[00:18:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And it shows I think it's a great aspect of his character.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And Patrick Stewart pulls it off really great.
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah.
[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And and and who? OK.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's let's let's talk about one other thing when he's sitting there reading.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's just talk about that right now.
[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_03]: And I do on Risa so much.
[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, on Risa. Yeah.
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: We kind of got this back in TOS time that books are not something
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_03]: that is very common in Star Trek Future, and especially in TNG.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_03]: You have pads and everything like that.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_03]: He's bringing lots and lots of books with him on vacation.
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's not something that I would see really happening all that much
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_03]: in the 24th century.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_05]: This dude is sick with books.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I don't know why they've held up so well
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_05]: because they've got to be literally centuries old.
[00:19:24] [SPEAKER_05]: They should be falling apart quite frankly. Exactly.
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_05]: But maybe their reproductions of things that are in his vault back on Earth
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_05]: that we learned from Star Trek Picard.
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_05]: But you would think that he would haul out his pad or other device.
[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_05]: And read a book.
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_05]: I get that he says there's nothing like holding it in your hands in an episode
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_05]: and blah, blah, blah.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_05]: But it's just that you could travel with one thing or travel with 30.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_05]: I would travel with the one thing.
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_05]: But I mean, he doesn't know how to vacation.
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_05]: So I guess I'm not surprised.
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's true.
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And I like his little like circular carry on bag, which is kind of neat.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And he literally can put like one thing in it, like one book.
[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the angle, it's all screwed up and you can't put anything else in it.
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_05]: But there is plenty of room for a horgone.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_05]: There is.
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Which Riker wants him to get.
[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_03]: That was pretty funny.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That was one aspect of the episode that's pretty funny.
[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_05]: It's very funny. I'm not going to lie.
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Just because Picard is so straight laced and Riker at this point is like,
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_05]: yeah, no, no, I don't think so.
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you think the entire senior staff was in on this?
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't think Deanna would have that would have been something
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_03]: that Deanna would have liked to have seen have happened.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_05]: But she knows because I mean, she's empathic.
[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_05]: She knows that Riker is messing with him.
[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but still, I don't think as counselor,
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it would be her in her best interest to do it, to be up to be in on the gag.
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I just think it's hysterical when he's on the planet
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_03]: and then that woman comes over and is trying to seduce him
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_03]: and and he realizes what the deal is.
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And then how he has to like look around
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_03]: to make sure that nobody's watching him as he puts it under a towel.
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_05]: So if he was bringing one of those back with Riker,
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_05]: why wouldn't he just like, oh, great, let me drop this in my room
[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_05]: and then I'll go read by the pool. Exactly.
[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't get why he'd put it out on display.
[00:21:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Exactly. Or leave it in the bag.
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Because they do have bags in the future, don't they?
[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, round plastic ones.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_05]: So Picard, correct me if I'm wrong here.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Picard is a student of archaeology
[00:21:31] [SPEAKER_05]: and an old old crap.
[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Old stuff. Yeah.
[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you think that the first thing he'd ask himself is,
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_05]: oh, what's the significance of this trinket?
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_05]: And then he'd probably, you know, whip out a tricorder
[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_05]: or ask somebody like, please, local person,
[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_05]: tell me about this wonderful statue.
[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_05]: The carvings seem to be dated somewhere in the Mesozoic era.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know, something like that. Wow.
[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_05]: But I know, thank you.
[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_05]: That's, you know, bourbon making podcasting better
[00:21:59] [SPEAKER_05]: for everybody.
[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_05]: But I mean, Picard, you would think that he'd want to know
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_05]: what it's about. And then as soon as he heard, oh, yeah, by the way,
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_05]: this thing says you're horny AF and your DTF
[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_05]: to employ a little Jersey Shore parlance.
[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's you're absolutely right.
[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's one of the things.
[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Space Google, the phrase of the night.
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_03]: That's one of the things that is
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_03]: the episode is good.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not great.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's for stuff like this.
[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Picard would not be so naive.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I understand that it's for the story and this, that and the other thing,
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_03]: but it's out of his character.
[00:22:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely. And again, I could play devil's advocate to my own statement.
[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_03]: He's out of his character just being on vacation.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_03]: So you got that too.
[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, he's definitely out of his character when this woman comes out
[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_05]: of nowhere and just essentially.
[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Lays one on.
[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, she really lays one on.
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's that's Vash.
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. I got to tell you.
[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Something like that happened to me at a Jimmy Buffett concert once
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_05]: in Denver in like 1992.
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Everybody was hammered, except for me.
[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I was the designated driver.
[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_05]: I think that's really the only situation in which that would happen.
[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_05]: And nobody let's just say when I go on vacation to a hotel,
[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_05]: nobody at Sandals is doing this.
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Right.
[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Unless you're doing it like when you go to Disney.
[00:23:29] [SPEAKER_03]: You never told me that that happened to you at a Jimmy Buffett concert.
[00:23:32] [SPEAKER_03]: This is news to me.
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I did.
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I was a designated driver for the bunch of guys that I worked with at a pizza hut.
[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_05]: They said, we'll buy your ticket if you if you drive.
[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Like, all right, fine, I'll go.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_05]: I got nothing going on them off that night.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_05]: And those guys literally were hammered.
[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I was in my 20s.
[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think I was in 1992.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_05]: I was 23.
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, I'm like, all right, I'll go.
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_05]: And this woman was going through the the lawn
[00:23:56] [SPEAKER_05]: at the Fiddler's Green Ampitheater, if anyone in Denver knows that.
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_05]: And just really just planting one on every single person she could find.
[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so you weren't special?
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, no, of course I was.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Special. All right. Well, then that's fine.
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you so much.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_05]: I admit I admit the other things I saw,
[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_05]: which is probably the subject of a trekkeeks after dark someday
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_05]: because it is not fit for a family show.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, boy.
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_05]: On the lawn at a concert venue.
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Cheers, baby.
[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, so go ahead.
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say, getting back to Vash comes out of nowhere, lays one on him.
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_03]: That doesn't throw up any red flags to begin with with him, apparently.
[00:24:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Shows up again.
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Still no red flags.
[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like his red flags were left on the enterprise
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_03]: when he beamed down to his vacation on Riza,
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_03]: which again is very unlike Jean-Luc Picard.
[00:24:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Although he's a cool customer because after she she plants one on him and kisses him,
[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_05]: he's like, you know, a simple handshake would have surprised.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, that is just that is next level stuff.
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_05]: He just nails it with that.
[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_05]: That is the best line.
[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_03]: The the rampant sexism still shows in this episode
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_03]: in season three of Star Trek, the next generation where as the episode opens,
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_03]: it's fully focused on a woman's backside walking down the hallway.
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_03]: And then it's fully focusing on two couples trying to get it on in the lounge chair
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_03]: right near Picard and then another beautiful woman comes over talking to
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Picard and is giving them the googly moogly eyes.
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's a little it's a little scary.
[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Sorry, googly moogly.
[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Googly moogly.
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, I'm amazed you can say that after one of those drinks.
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_03]: We've come a long way now that we're in 2024, I think.
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But have we?
[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say have we really because Picard has like no shirt on for a lot
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_03]: of this episode and is wearing like swim trunks like he's from Quebec.
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So.
[00:26:12] [SPEAKER_03]: He is French, so maybe that's the case.
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not really sure.
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe that is the case.
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think so.
[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_05]: I think he's from France.
[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, at some point, Picard returns to his room and these two aliens
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_05]: who claim to be a security team from the 27th century of Vorgon's medium.
[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_05]: They tell them they're looking for the toxin taught.
[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Now, first I've got to say a little confusing with Vorgon and Horgon.
[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_05]: The first time I saw this episode, I'm like, wait, so that the statue is
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_05]: for them again.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not that bright.
[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's let's just, you know, be accepting Vorgon.
[00:27:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Horgon, Horgon, Horgon, Horgon say that 10 times fast after that martini.
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_05]: A jerk, but apparently this this artifact, 27th century artifact was
[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_05]: sought after by criminals and hidden somewhere in that time period.
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Picard says he knows about the legend.
[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Of course he does.
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Because Picard knows everything about, you know, Xeno archaeology or whatever
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_05]: they call it now and the Vorgons want to know what will happen if he finds it.
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Dun dun dun.
[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Picard simply states he knows that it belongs in the future and the Vorgon's
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_05]: transport out of his room.
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's my question.
[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_05]: How does and this comes up later in the episode.
[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Why speaking of Picard's red flags, why isn't there a red alert going off
[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_05]: in his head? Why weren't these people?
[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Why is he just taking with their word?
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_03]: No identification.
[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't ask to see their wallet or their badge or anything like that.
[00:27:54] [SPEAKER_03]: And later in the episode, he's just ready to turn it over to him
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_03]: just because they said they should that he should.
[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm that's one of the things about Vaj
[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_03]: that I actually liked in this episode is she actually questions him.
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Why are you doing that?
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_03]: You were giving me all the all the, you know, I'm not sure about you.
[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_03]: How come you're just going to do with them?
[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_03]: And he's like, you can probably show me your Vag is right.
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And then they get all.
[00:28:19] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, they got all what?
[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_05]: That almost sounds like Cyrano Jones.
[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't you dare you?
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_02]: Vagons are not dangerous.
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_02]: You brought that on yourself, man. I'm sorry.
[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_05]: I did. I did. It's the bourbon talking.
[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_05]: That's.
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So Picard decides, well, screw it.
[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_05]: I hate vacations anyway.
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's go on a quest.
[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_05]: And he goes with Vash.
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but before that, we got to talk about the fact that he's laying in his chair
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_03]: finally trying to read and the whole time that he's doing that,
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_03]: they're showing him from a distance and somebody interrupts him.
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And then the show that's right.
[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Distance and then somebody else comes in.
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Then they show real close up so that the shadow of this ominous,
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_03]: hulking, destructive figure can be standing over him menacingly.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's a frangue.
[00:29:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I want to go back to the whole wardrobe comment that I made earlier.
[00:29:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Ha, ha, ha, ha.
[00:29:16] [SPEAKER_05]: What in the fresh hell were they doing with this costume?
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, which one? Which one of those three?
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, Picard's is fine.
[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_05]: He almost looks like he I feel like he wears some version of that all the time
[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_05]: when he's in her life and Starfleet.
[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, interlite family.
[00:29:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Vash looks like she's ready to go like all Indiana Jones circa 23, whatever.
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_05]: To him.
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Right. But what is his name?
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Sovak. Sovak, yeah.
[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Which sounds like it ought to be a Vulcan name, but that's just me.
[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know why he's wearing these sort of lime sherbet pants with lime
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_05]: sherbet accents on that Jeaques Cisco shirt.
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I know exactly why.
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Why he just got done at that Jimmy Buffett concert that that woman made out
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_03]: with you.
[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_05]: What I wouldn't give for a cheeseburger in paradise right into the left,
[00:30:11] [SPEAKER_03]: brother, into the right, brother.
[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Did you hear that the Margarita villain Vegas is closing?
[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I did. Very disappointed.
[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_05]: So sad. Yes.
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_05]: We left going there.
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe they closed it because people were uniforms like Sovak was wearing.
[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, my word.
[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like he's wearing one of the reason one of those veron T disruptors
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_03]: almost. Yeah, that's exactly.
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep. You know, those are those are banned.
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I like I like the idea that Max was was this villain.
[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry, they were at the point still in Star Trek where Ferengi's were nothing
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_03]: but a laughing stock.
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_03]: They had not really gotten their their girth, so to speak, yet of being scary.
[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And Max Max can try to be scary all he wants, especially after we know him
[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_03]: from Beep Space Nine, you just can't he just not scary.
[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_03]: He does still have that one tooth, though, that's like going like that.
[00:31:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Snaggle tooth is like.
[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. So he was
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_03]: so so he's looking for the disc, the disc from the professor who then we got
[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_03]: another one of these, Vash just happens to have it on her person and just so ever
[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_03]: casually places it in John Luke's available pocket on his little
[00:31:20] [SPEAKER_03]: ricey and sweater vest.
[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Sweater vest.
[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Jim McMahon brings up a good point.
[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_05]: The fake rom looks like he invaded Neelix's wardrobe.
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Makes me wonder if he has hairy feet.
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Good point, Jim. Yeah.
[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's all too convenient the way she's able to slip that disc in there.
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Like Sobac isn't going to say, all right, hold up your hands.
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Let me switch your pockets.
[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, what was that?
[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_05]: So this is fun.
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_05]: You have a singular wit, Dr. McCoy.
[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway. Yeah.
[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_05]: It's way too convenient.
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_03]: It is very convenient.
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Very convenient.
[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_05]: So Picard has been on Rysa like 10 minutes
[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_05]: and already not only is he about to embark on an adventure against his will,
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_05]: but he's being held at Phaser Point by a Ferengi.
[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_05]: So it sounds like a typical day at work.
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_03]: It does.
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_03]: But there's nothing like drama even in instances like that.
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_03]: He's being held at Phaser Point.
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And yet he still has to do the casual
[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_03]: hand switch of the phaser so that he can punch the guy right in the face.
[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That is really sort of smooth.
[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, I almost wish that Picard had
[00:32:38] [SPEAKER_05]: had some sort of James Bond-like adventure.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Kind of like Julian Beshear and Orman Beshear.
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I feel like this would have almost lent to that really well.
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Like maybe there's some formal event and, you know, blah, blah, blah.
[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_05]: But this scene actually kind of works for me because it
[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_05]: reminds me of so many of those like 40s and 50s movies, you know,
[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_05]: with the adventurer and the hero guy who always punches out the bad guy.
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_05]: He's smooth.
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_05]: He's got the girl.
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_05]: There's the ugly dude who's chasing them.
[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just it's one of the elements that really work for me in the theme
[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_05]: of this episode. It's not too serious.
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not. No.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's why I don't dislike the episode, because I don't think it's meant
[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_03]: to be serious. There are serious aspects of it.
[00:33:26] [SPEAKER_03]: But like you just said, he's been there for like a half an hour.
[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_03]: He's obviously been to his room.
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_03]: He went to the gift store.
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_03]: He went and tried to sit and read.
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_03]: He then went back to his room.
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_03]: He went to Vash's room who was cleaning up the same set that probably was
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_03]: the set that they were sitting out reading books because it looks exactly
[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_03]: the same. And then he's being held at gunpoint by Ferengi before
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_03]: they decide to go off onto an adventure on Risa where it looks really dank
[00:33:52] [SPEAKER_03]: and dreary and awful, even though it's supposed to be a pleasure planet.
[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, as we learn later, the weather system is really important there.
[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Ah, that's true.
[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_05]: The one thing I'd like to point out is that this episode carries on the
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_05]: tradition of there being gigantic caverns in Star Trek.
[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know why this is the case.
[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_05]: It seems like any time they need to have some action somewhere or,
[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, some kind of scene that's like, let's put them in a cave.
[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think there are that many caves in the United States
[00:34:25] [SPEAKER_05]: that we have in Star Trek episodes.
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_03]: What was the soundstage that had the cave all the time?
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I forget the number.
[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Planet Hell.
[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:34:32] [SPEAKER_03]: It was a stage.
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_03]: It sounds 15.
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I forget which one it was.
[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_03]: So look at our pictures from our Paramount tour.
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, you're right.
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_03]: There's always a cave.
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure.
[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure why.
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't work for me, though, this time where other times it does.
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Because I just I thought it was it was too convenient.
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_03]: So they're going to go on this adventure to try and this thing.
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's put it in a cave and underground.
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_03]: They have to dig it up.
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_03]: It just doesn't that doesn't work for me.
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Although what does work for me and we're kind of jumping around all over
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_03]: the place, but we kind of have to do when we're doing this episode.
[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I had a very cloudminders like feel when they're in the cavern.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Because it's like I said, dig.
[00:35:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And so back is like, continue digging.
[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And he shoots his phaser into the air.
[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I thought that was kind of that was a like a little callback to TOS.
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if it was done on purpose or not, but that's how I felt.
[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_05]: True story.
[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's actually the same cavern in the cloudminders.
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_05]: It is.
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Probably.
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_05]: It's planted hell with stage 16 on the Paramount lot.
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_03]: 16. OK.
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_03]: But yes.
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_03]: And also convenient that she went there, dug it up already, made all the ground
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_03]: perfectly like level and not like it had been dug up at all and not like they had
[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_03]: a tricorder that they could have seen that it had been dug up previously or
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_03]: anything like that. I'm just saying I'm not a writer.
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, but the composition of the rocks make it hard to use the tricorder.
[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_05]: That's an excuse.
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Wink, wink.
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Hard too often.
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Nudge, nudge.
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Um.
[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_05]: And of course, Picard and Vash have to spend the night there.
[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh huh.
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, big surprise.
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_05]: Um.
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_05]: This part of the episode doesn't work for me.
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_05]: No, it's very.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_05]: That I mean, OK, by this time in TOS, Kirk has, you know, he's pretty much a sailor.
[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, every port you find someone to hook up with or fall in love with.
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, but Picard at this point, you know, he's he's a young Luke Picard.
[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_05]: He's right.
[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_05]: He's the captain of captains.
[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_05]: I have a hard time believing that in a cave while they're dirty, while they've
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_05]: been held it at at phaser point, looking for this relic that he's just
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_05]: going to hook up with Vash, um, instantaneously.
[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Because honestly, she's been nothing but trouble since day one that might
[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_05]: be appealing to some, but not I just not to him.
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I do not like Vash at all.
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I think she is a perfect example of the disgustingness that can be of humanity
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_03]: in today's world presently.
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_03]: She lies, she manipulates, she does it because she has an underlying reason
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_03]: for herself selfishly for profit.
[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_03]: That all ties into all kinds of shit that's going on in the world today.
[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_03]: And I just don't like her character.
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And for Picard to be attracted to her and naive enough to fall for it, even
[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_03]: though maybe he doesn't irritates the hell out of me.
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_03]: The other thing that irritates the hell out of me in a funny way is he's
[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Jean-Luc Picard, he is a swab debonair kind of guy.
[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_03]: He's laying down next to a woman on this on the nice Vorgon wardrobe blanket.
[00:37:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And he's getting ready to go to sleep.
[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And what does he do?
[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_03]: He turns over to the side and takes the whole freaking blanket with him.
[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_03]: Classy, classy Picard right there.
[00:38:05] [SPEAKER_03]: That's not Jean-Luc.
[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_03]: No, not at all.
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Not at all.
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Does it play well for humor?
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely. Yes.
[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Ira writes it.
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I wrote a script with some great comedy beats in it.
[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, the pace of it is fantastic.
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_05]: It just doesn't quite fit the characters.
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Now, does that mean I hate the episode?
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's fun to watch, but I have a hard time reconciling this this person in this
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_05]: episode against whom we know Jean-Luc Picard to be at this point.
[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Yep.
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_05]: It's just not that.
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_05]: Carefree, quite frankly, he's not.
[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep. And I'd also like to know what,
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_03]: why this crystal piece of glass that's hidden inside the head of a
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Horgon, take that as you will, what, why it's so powerful and why it's so
[00:39:00] [SPEAKER_03]: important in the future.
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And I also think it was a lost opportunity to never go back and talk about
[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_03]: the story some more if it was supposedly such a big deal in the future.
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_03]: And he destroyed it by
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Transporter Code 14.
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_03]: What's the deal?
[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_03]: He sealed his own fate, blah, blah, blah.
[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Why didn't we never saw these aliens again and never heard anything about this?
[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_03]: It was another warf broke his spine.
[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Next week, he's doing gymnastics episode.
[00:39:26] Next week.
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, he's he's beaten his his floor exercises and now he's moving out of the
[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_05]: compulsories.
[00:39:33] [SPEAKER_05]: I think the thing that gets me is that, you know, that episodic nature of TV
[00:39:38] [SPEAKER_05]: back then is that after something like this, there's more questions.
[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_05]: It's kind of like an episode of loss.
[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_05]: There's more questions than there are answers.
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, the the talk suit Todd is almost kind of like what's in the briefcase
[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_05]: and Pulp Fiction, you want to know what it's about.
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And you never get the answer.
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_04]: Mm hmm.
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I still don't know why Picard has the major malfunction that I'm just going
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_05]: to give this thing to these people.
[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_05]: They seem to want it.
[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_05]: I keep I know I keep coming back to that.
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, but it's
[00:40:11] [SPEAKER_05]: it's a Helen asks, didn't this episode come about partly because Patrick Stewart
[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_05]: wanted more romance for Picard?
[00:40:17] [SPEAKER_05]: It never worked for me.
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_05]: That's actually exactly why Picard went to Ira and said, you know, look,
[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I want some romance.
[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_05]: I want some action, blah, blah, blah, you know, and this is what I came back with.
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_05]: And of course, Patrick loved it.
[00:40:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Can I ask you a question?
[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_03]: What episode of romance romance with Picard did work?
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Because I don't think any of them really worked.
[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Daren, I don't think worked.
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I see.
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that one worked.
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I don't think it worked like worked.
[00:40:46] [SPEAKER_03]: It was it was better than Vaj.
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't think insurrection worked with Anish.
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I just I don't.
[00:40:55] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's too bad.
[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Picard, I think Picard in season two of Picard and season one and two
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_03]: of Picard itself, I think the romance that he had was better than anything
[00:41:07] [SPEAKER_03]: we saw on TNG.
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_05]: I will never forever be Tim Daren because I thought that Nella Daren was his equal.
[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Interesting.
[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_05]: She was very much in a place where he was and the fact that she was focusing on
[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_05]: music and some of these more in a higher, you know,
[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know what the word is because I've had bourbon,
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_05]: but these things that aren't stealing things from archaeological sites,
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, the arts and and what these things make you feel.
[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, I think that
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_05]: that Daren was right for him.
[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, Helen took the words right out of my mouth.
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I was going to say the only one that worked was the inner light.
[00:41:48] [SPEAKER_03]: But it wasn't him.
[00:41:49] [SPEAKER_03]: If I was going to say was was that really him?
[00:41:52] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it wasn't.
[00:41:53] [SPEAKER_03]: It was Cayman, but it was him, but wasn't him.
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_03]: So but but she's absolutely right.
[00:41:59] [SPEAKER_03]: The inner light was the one that was the most heart felt for me.
[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_03]: The other one, the none of the other ones I felt had any real emotion in it,
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_03]: except maybe maybe Daren.
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, no, I can see that.
[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Although I do like I like the character of a niche from Insurrection
[00:42:18] [SPEAKER_05]: because I'm a huge Donna Murphy fan.
[00:42:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I love her in pretty much everything she's been in, but
[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't like the relationship that they had.
[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I hate that hummingbird scene and Insurrection, but that's for the the other.
[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_05]: We've already done an Insurrection episode,
[00:42:33] [SPEAKER_05]: but we'll redo it sometime because we're just low end podcast.
[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Insurrection.
[00:42:38] [SPEAKER_05]: You're doing. Oh, yes.
[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_05]: So I'm looking for a particular image
[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_05]: while you're looking for that to do this.
[00:42:49] [SPEAKER_05]: But I want to say, you know, so
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_05]: the talk to Todd gets destroyed, boo-hoo.
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Or all crying here.
[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_05]: And of course, Vos just like, oh, well, OK, see you later, John Luke.
[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, yeah, why isn't she like losing her shit?
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Red flag.
[00:43:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, total red flag.
[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
[00:43:12] [SPEAKER_03]: I that and I mean, he did kind of get it because he was sitting there in that
[00:43:17] [SPEAKER_03]: wonderful lobby that didn't look anything like a lobby as she was trying to leave.
[00:43:23] [SPEAKER_03]: And I also found it there were a couple of times where people were trying to walk
[00:43:27] [SPEAKER_03]: through that lobby and they were always looking around to see if anybody would see
[00:43:31] [SPEAKER_03]: them and there were never anybody in the lobby except the person that they
[00:43:35] [SPEAKER_03]: didn't want to see see them.
[00:43:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, totally.
[00:43:39] [SPEAKER_05]: So Picard comes back to the Enterprise.
[00:43:43] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, thinking the cruise thing and he's rested.
[00:43:45] [SPEAKER_05]: He's relaxed.
[00:43:47] [SPEAKER_05]: And the first thing on Riker's mind is pretty much
[00:43:50] [SPEAKER_05]: did you get me?
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Look at the smile.
[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. And now, granted, that's at the end of the episode after Picard comes back
[00:43:56] [SPEAKER_05]: to the bridge, but that that look on Frank's face just screams, yeah.
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_05]: My mission was was a success.
[00:44:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I like it.
[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_05]: It was Marvin Gaye.
[00:44:10] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, absolutely.
[00:44:12] [SPEAKER_05]: That's whether it's let's get it on or sexual healing.
[00:44:16] [SPEAKER_03]: And and you know, you know that he and Deanna,
[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_03]: you know, they've got their history and of course they have their future
[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_03]: that we see in Picard.
[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_03]: But in this episode, they're holding hands as they're walking down the ramp.
[00:44:28] [SPEAKER_03]: You don't think that she'd be looking at him going, dude,
[00:44:30] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to punch you right in your banana hammock in a second if you
[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_03]: keep bringing stuff like this up.
[00:44:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Punch you right in your banana hammock.
[00:44:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh my gosh, I can't even.
[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I know, right?
[00:44:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, evidently, neither could Picard because he didn't know what a Horgon was.
[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I have nothing.
[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I have nothing.
[00:44:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, let's hear it.
[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_03]: A funny, a funny little dance move takes place in this episode.
[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's really not supposed to be a funny little dance move.
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But every time I see it, I laugh.
[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And that's when the Vorgons are confronting Picard and Vash
[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_03]: and they pull a weapon on them.
[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And Vash tries to be all heroic and steps up to him and they fire on her
[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_03]: and hit her in the shoulder.
[00:45:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And she kind of does like a little shimmy backwards before she kneels down on the
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_03]: table. I have always thought that that is one of the funniest ways to react
[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_03]: to be hitting by an energy plasma weapon.
[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Will you recreate this in Vegas so we can video it?
[00:45:28] [SPEAKER_03]: I will absolutely like a shot my shot comparison.
[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I want someone to dress cosplay.
[00:45:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my God.
[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Someone needs to cosplay as a Vorgon and shoot me in the shoulder so I can do the Vaj
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_05]: move. You're ugly enough to be a Vorgon.
[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_05]: So you play both parts.
[00:45:46] [SPEAKER_05]: But no, I mean, honestly, if you just do the shimmy, we could line it up against
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_05]: her shimmy and then just post it to Patreon.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, I like that idea.
[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_03]: All right.
[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_03]: All right, let's do it.
[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
[00:45:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And some practice.
[00:45:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I still have to do the Riker Walk because we have yet to capture that in Vegas.
[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, we got time this year.
[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_03]: We got time.
[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_05]: If I'm thinking where this episode falls and sort of like the 176 or 78 episodes
[00:46:20] [SPEAKER_05]: of Next Generation, for me, this episode really kind of hits square in the middle.
[00:46:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think it's awesome.
[00:46:27] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think it's terrible.
[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_05]: But I think it's a perfectly serviceable episode of Star Trek.
[00:46:33] [SPEAKER_05]: What about you?
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_03]: It's a filler.
[00:46:35] [SPEAKER_03]: There's nothing horrendously dangerous going on.
[00:46:40] [SPEAKER_03]: There's not something that is going to be related to the Borg later on down the road.
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_03]: There's nothing that comes back to this episode, which, as I said, a few minutes ago
[00:46:49] [SPEAKER_03]: was kind of a lost opportunity, I think.
[00:46:52] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it's right in the middle.
[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It's I don't dislike it. It's Star Trek.
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I like it. Let's get that right.
[00:46:56] [SPEAKER_03]: We we're bashing on this stuff.
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_03]: We're having fun making all the jokes about what's wrong in this episode.
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's Star Trek and we love all Star Trek, but it is a middle of the series episode.
[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_03]: It's not one that I'm going to be like, Holy crap.
[00:47:10] [SPEAKER_03]: I just watch best of both worlds.
[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_03]: And as soon as I was done, I'm like, Jesus, I got to watch Captain's Holiday now.
[00:47:15] [SPEAKER_03]: That's not going to happen.
[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Never in the history of humankind has anyone said that.
[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Jesus, I got to watch Captain's Holiday.
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_05]: First of all, I don't believe in Jesus, but that's a topic for another time.
[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, yes.
[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_05]: Helen again, a perfectly spot on it's not awesome, but it's not trashed like Code of Honor.
[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Right. I would point out I would add to that perfect comment
[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_05]: that nothing is trashed like Code of Honor.
[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_03]: The worst episode of Star Trek probably ever, quite possibly.
[00:47:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it might be the worst one ever.
[00:47:53] [SPEAKER_05]: And by far the most problematic.
[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_03]: When when Jonathan Frakes himself calls it a racist piece of shit,
[00:47:59] [SPEAKER_03]: you know that it's not a good episode.
[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah. Good point, Helen.
[00:48:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, let's talk about because we always love looking at the memory alpha
[00:48:08] [SPEAKER_05]: articles on these episodes. Yes.
[00:48:10] [SPEAKER_05]: One of the things I love is that
[00:48:15] [SPEAKER_05]: we get a pre DS9 Max Credential as a fringy that is markedly different.
[00:48:24] [SPEAKER_05]: And it feels like I'm cheating on Ram when I watch him
[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_05]: because Ram is such a wonderfully complete character.
[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_05]: And he's played beautifully by Max that when I watched this episode,
[00:48:37] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, this character is nothing.
[00:48:40] [SPEAKER_05]: It could be any for Enki and Max really takes what they give him
[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_05]: and really just sort of choose the scenery.
[00:48:47] [SPEAKER_05]: I really do what Max does here.
[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I talked about it earlier.
[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not scary.
[00:48:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And because of our love of Ram,
[00:48:55] [SPEAKER_03]: it's hard not to not be scared of this character.
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_03]: But again, we knew that the Fringy were brought in to be this major villain
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_03]: and TNG and it never came to pass.
[00:49:06] [SPEAKER_03]: And this is a perfect example of it's not coming to pass on TNG.
[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not scary.
[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_03]: He's probably still in the cave digging for the frigging thing with the flat
[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_03]: shovel. I don't know how anybody can dig with a flat shovel.
[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_03]: That's still still it's a mechanical
[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_03]: shovel, but when shovel, but when Percar puts together, it still makes
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_03]: an electronic clicking sound.
[00:49:25] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just saying that and it happens twice because he has two shovels.
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_05]: So Will Wheaton and LaVar Burton not in this episode.
[00:49:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_05]: And Brent Spiner is in it, but doesn't say a damn thing.
[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_03]: That's the first time for everything, isn't it?
[00:49:41] [SPEAKER_05]: So he got into it right.
[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_05]: So he got into makeup, you know,
[00:49:45] [SPEAKER_05]: the four hours or whatever it took to become data.
[00:49:47] [SPEAKER_05]: He's got a few scenes punching the buttons on the console.
[00:49:50] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's all he did.
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I guarantee you there were scenes that were dropped or cut.
[00:49:55] [SPEAKER_03]: He had he had dialogue.
[00:49:56] [SPEAKER_03]: He's not going to sit in that makeup chair to just sit there and push buttons, baby.
[00:49:59] [SPEAKER_03]: You think so?
[00:50:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:50:02] [SPEAKER_03]: You know what? We'll ask him that next week.
[00:50:04] [SPEAKER_05]: We will.
[00:50:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Jim McMahon, even the Lizard Babies episode from Voyager is better than Code of
[00:50:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Honor. We've talked about that episode.
[00:50:10] [SPEAKER_05]: That's not a bad episode.
[00:50:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Threshold isn't bad.
[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_05]: The last five minutes of that episode is terrible.
[00:50:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
[00:50:16] [SPEAKER_05]: But what leads up to it is actually a pretty great sci-fi.
[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_03]: One thing that I found interesting as I read through Memory Alpha right now,
[00:50:25] [SPEAKER_03]: apparently there is an Andorian in this episode and I haven't the slightest idea
[00:50:30] [SPEAKER_03]: where it is. I can't remember him or her at all.
[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you should try watching this episode sober.
[00:50:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I watched it the other day.
[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Extremely sober and I still can't remember when it was.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Was it on Rysa?
[00:50:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Or was it I could have been on the Enterprise?
[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. No, it was on Rysa.
[00:50:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Interesting. Was it was the Andorian green like in the holodeck of the offspring,
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_03]: which I still don't understand to this day?
[00:50:53] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know about that.
[00:50:54] [SPEAKER_05]: It looks like an Andorian.
[00:50:56] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, I'm going to check it out as soon as we're done recording.
[00:50:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe you should have.
[00:51:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I'll just do it now. Goodbye.
[00:51:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that would be ideal for us.
[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Can I say one thing right now?
[00:51:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Completely unrelated, but I want to make sure I say it because it's nine
[00:51:10] [SPEAKER_03]: o'clock here. You'll appreciate this.
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So you'll say yes once I say it.
[00:51:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It's nine o'clock here.
[00:51:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Eastern time.
[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_03]: What time is it in London?
[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Five hours ahead.
[00:51:19] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's nine nine or five.
[00:51:21] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like two in the morning.
[00:51:23] [SPEAKER_03]: Our senior producer, Jude Tatman, is watching right now.
[00:51:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I know for a fact.
[00:51:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I know for a fact because I got a picture of him
[00:51:32] [SPEAKER_03]: getting ready to sit down and enjoy the episode.
[00:51:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And I was told that he was staying up late and was going to enjoy this
[00:51:39] [SPEAKER_03]: episode tonight and couldn't wait for it to start.
[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_03]: So I wanted to say hi to Jude.
[00:51:43] [SPEAKER_05]: Let me look at my phone.
[00:51:44] [SPEAKER_05]: I want to be sure that I also got this picture.
[00:51:47] [SPEAKER_05]: No way, I didn't get shit.
[00:51:48] [SPEAKER_03]: No, you didn't. You didn't get it.
[00:51:50] [SPEAKER_03]: You know why? Because you're not me.
[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, you know what?
[00:51:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I got it right here.
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_03]: It's funny.
[00:51:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Smiling a little face right there.
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_03]: That's right.
[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_03]: He's watching from London.
[00:51:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, pal.
[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Dude, dude.
[00:52:03] [SPEAKER_03]: What?
[00:52:04] [SPEAKER_03]: What's his fault?
[00:52:05] [SPEAKER_05]: He didn't send the picture.
[00:52:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't yell at him.
[00:52:07] [SPEAKER_05]: That's all right.
[00:52:08] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, Jude's mom.
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I got it. Dance the favorite.
[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_05]: That's true.
[00:52:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Dance the favorite, I understand.
[00:52:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Hey, Jude.
[00:52:18] [SPEAKER_03]: I just want to say hi to him.
[00:52:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't make it bad.
[00:52:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Don't sing.
[00:52:23] [SPEAKER_05]: You don't like that.
[00:52:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Everybody, this is a newsflash here on the Trek Geeks podcast.
[00:52:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Dan hates the Beatles.
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I do not like the Beatles at all.
[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_03]: I will say I have grown to
[00:52:36] [SPEAKER_03]: tolerate them because of now I love
[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_03]: the older music now a lot more than I used to.
[00:52:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I have never been a Beatles fan and I never will be.
[00:52:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And I really hope that our friend David is not listening.
[00:52:51] [SPEAKER_03]: That's right. David Livingston.
[00:52:53] [SPEAKER_03]: David Livingston, who you like the most.
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Of the Beatles.
[00:52:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep. Yep.
[00:52:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Very big fan. Yeah, never been a fan.
[00:53:00] [SPEAKER_03]: We're going way off the rails here.
[00:53:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Breaking news, Dan.
[00:53:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Into the Trek Geeks newsroom.
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Dan Davidson hates the Beatles and freedom.
[00:53:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Wow, that's more than 11.
[00:53:10] [SPEAKER_05]: That's harsh.
[00:53:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Apparently true, though.
[00:53:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Some of the greatest songs in the whole era.
[00:53:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Michael Jackson did a great rendition of a Beatles song.
[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_03]: So there's that.
[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Which one?
[00:53:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Come together.
[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Diddly-diddly-diddly-diddly-diddly.
[00:53:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Helen also says our Internet buddy.
[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to screw up his name, so I'm not even going to say it.
[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_05]: York? Is that how you say it?
[00:53:35] [SPEAKER_03]: York Hill and Rand.
[00:53:37] [SPEAKER_05]: Yergh? Yergh, Yorgh?
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Jorge.
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Posted a picture on Twitter of the Andorian and Captain's holiday.
[00:53:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, OK.
[00:53:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Because he finds everything.
[00:53:47] [SPEAKER_05]: He isn't a super sleuth when it comes to Trek.
[00:53:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but I'm not on Twitter anymore, so.
[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Sarah is correct.
[00:53:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Wings is pretty sick.
[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Paul McCartney's band after the Beatles.
[00:53:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, absolutely. Love Wings.
[00:53:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Love Wings.
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_05]: No.
[00:54:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Fun fact, Band on the Run.
[00:54:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I have never sung those lyrics as Band on the Run.
[00:54:05] [SPEAKER_03]: What are they?
[00:54:07] [SPEAKER_05]: All right, so I'm going to apologize to everybody in the viewing audience and who
[00:54:10] [SPEAKER_05]: listens later on because apparently I was like 12 when I started singing this night.
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm 54 now when I still sing it the same way.
[00:54:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Band with the runs.
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Band with the runs.
[00:54:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my goodness gracious.
[00:54:26] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like my Led Zeppelin one.
[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_03]: I used to always think it was said, they used to say, and there's a whino
[00:54:30] [SPEAKER_03]: down the road.
[00:54:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Nice.
[00:54:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Why down the road?
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_05]: We have a stand.
[00:54:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Holiday.
[00:54:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's what I've noticed in 10 years of doing this show.
[00:54:44] [SPEAKER_05]: The more we wind up going on tangents, that's because the tangents are more
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_05]: interesting.
[00:54:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, absolutely.
[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I used to also think that Aerosmith, it was Sweet Moonshine.
[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_03]: What?
[00:54:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Sweet Moonshine.
[00:55:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, that's what I used to think.
[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't even sound like that.
[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_03]: It did to me back then when I was a kid and didn't like 70s rock.
[00:55:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So yeah.
[00:55:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Were you also drinking heavily during the day back then?
[00:55:11] [SPEAKER_03]: Back when I was in my early
[00:55:14] [SPEAKER_03]: not preachy, yeah, probably.
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, OK.
[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_03]: That tracks.
[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, Man on the Run.
[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I like that.
[00:55:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Big Band thought it was Man on the Run.
[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_05]: We got to remember to read the comments for the audio people.
[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's true.
[00:55:26] [SPEAKER_03]: They don't see that.
[00:55:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Helen says if you follow the link, you can pull the picture.
[00:55:31] [SPEAKER_05]: We don't actually get the links in the stream or chat.
[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_03]: So it grows very good point right here.
[00:55:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Alcohol. Yeah, there you go.
[00:55:40] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm almost done anyway.
[00:55:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, I'm not.
[00:55:42] [SPEAKER_03]: I still got a half a drink to go because I had a I had a sidecar full.
[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_05]: So if you had rewritten this episode, Dan,
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm kind of putting you on the spot here as we come up to the
[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, the 55 minute mark.
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_05]: What would you have done differently just in the foundation of this episode?
[00:56:02] [SPEAKER_05]: You probably keep that Picard went on vacation.
[00:56:05] [SPEAKER_05]: You probably keep that he went on some kind of adventure maybe against his will.
[00:56:10] [SPEAKER_05]: But where would you change it from there?
[00:56:12] [SPEAKER_03]: It would not have been time related.
[00:56:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I would not have had people from the 27th century coming in.
[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_03]: And then at the end saying we this was your destiny, you fulfilled your death.
[00:56:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Bubba, I enough with the time stuff.
[00:56:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I love the time travel episodes, but this one, it just seemed like a convenient
[00:56:27] [SPEAKER_03]: little offshoot and I would not have written that part into it.
[00:56:31] [SPEAKER_03]: It could have been something as dangerous as whoever has this is going to have
[00:56:34] [SPEAKER_03]: entire control over the entire quadrant.
[00:56:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we can send discovery into save it because they apparently save
[00:56:40] [SPEAKER_03]: everything from annihilation every season.
[00:56:44] [SPEAKER_03]: But I would have taken the time travel.
[00:56:46] [SPEAKER_05]: And then it's like Michael Burnham at season five of Discovery.
[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_03]: I would have taken the time aspect out of it.
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I probably would have done a different race for the villain.
[00:56:56] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's what I'm thinking about the race for the villain.
[00:56:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I would have gone Klingon.
[00:56:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:57:01] [SPEAKER_05]: And I would have had sort of the James Bond type moment or setting
[00:57:07] [SPEAKER_05]: where Picard has to get all dressy and his space tucks.
[00:57:11] [SPEAKER_05]: And at some point he winds up punching out a Klingon.
[00:57:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I think that would have been amazing.
[00:57:15] [SPEAKER_03]: OK, I was going to ask you the villain being the Vorgon or the villain
[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_03]: being the Ferengi, but you just clarified that it would have been the
[00:57:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Ferengi would have been the Klingon.
[00:57:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the Ferengi would have been the Klingon.
[00:57:24] [SPEAKER_05]: The Vorgons are fine.
[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_05]: They didn't have to be time travelers.
[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but they could have been, you know, a race that Picard had heard of
[00:57:30] [SPEAKER_05]: and maybe not necessarily dealt with.
[00:57:32] [SPEAKER_05]: And maybe they're not revealed to be the Vorgon until later in the episode.
[00:57:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. I mean, if you're going to if they're going to be wearing the mits,
[00:57:38] [SPEAKER_03]: they might as well just been travelers or like the watchers from the Marvel
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Universe where they actually don't really do anything but watch because
[00:57:46] [SPEAKER_03]: it's kind of like you.
[00:57:47] [SPEAKER_03]: They don't really contribute to society in any way, shape or form.
[00:57:51] [SPEAKER_05]: You don't really contribute to society in any way, shape or form, but
[00:57:55] [SPEAKER_05]: nobody is keeping score.
[00:57:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Did I say that out loud?
[00:58:00] [SPEAKER_03]: You did. And everybody heard you.
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm a rotten son of a bitch.
[00:58:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm not going to lie.
[00:58:06] [SPEAKER_05]: So, of course, you know, with this episode, we're always excited to talk about,
[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, an episode of Star Trek.
[00:58:15] [SPEAKER_05]: It's even more so when we get to go to Vegas, you and I are going to board
[00:58:19] [SPEAKER_05]: a plane for Vegas in just a matter of days.
[00:58:21] [SPEAKER_05]: We get to have a great time.
[00:58:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And do you plan on watching any trek on the plane while you're there?
[00:58:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Or on your way?
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I actually am because I have yet to be able to watch any of Prodigy
[00:58:34] [SPEAKER_03]: season two yet.
[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_03]: And I figure that's a lot of episodes I can probably get under my belt
[00:58:40] [SPEAKER_03]: because I won't have you nagging me the whole time to watch Office or something.
[00:58:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I'll be able to watch Prodigy and get some get some get some show.
[00:58:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I am going to bring some office, so too, I will say that mean nagging you to watch
[00:58:51] [SPEAKER_05]: the office.
[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_05]: If we started nagging you four years ago during the pandemic,
[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to hear it making my way through it.
[00:58:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm season five now.
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_05]: It's only taken four years.
[00:59:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I got I got other things to watch.
[00:59:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you just you're not a G season two.
[00:59:07] [SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I will do.
[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if I'm going to watch any other Star Trek besides that, to be honest with you.
[00:59:12] [SPEAKER_03]: Really?
[00:59:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I don't know.
[00:59:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I might I might because there's nothing that I know.
[00:59:16] [SPEAKER_03]: You know what?
[00:59:17] [SPEAKER_03]: I got to finish watching the last season of Lower Decks also.
[00:59:20] [SPEAKER_03]: So I can I can bring those as well.
[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I you you will be the you know this already.
[00:59:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Star Trek has not been something that I have watched a lot of lately.
[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_03]: I just have found myself wanting to
[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_03]: sit down and watch it.
[00:59:37] [SPEAKER_03]: So I was very happy to actually sit down and watch Captain Toladay this week,
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_03]: because it's really the first episode of Trek that I've watched in a couple months,
[00:59:45] [SPEAKER_03]: I would say.
[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, Bonnington asks.
[00:59:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Stop.
[00:59:52] [SPEAKER_02]: What was your comment?
[00:59:54] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, wasn't you guys called it with disco where the stakes are ultimately
[00:59:57] [SPEAKER_05]: high every season, annihilation exhaustion?
[01:00:01] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think I called it.
[01:00:03] [SPEAKER_05]: I think I know he used the word fatigue.
[01:00:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[01:00:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Whether it was crisis fatigue or whatever it was.
[01:00:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that was it.
[01:00:10] [SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, annihilation exhaustion is very much the same concept.
[01:00:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:00:15] [SPEAKER_05]: And I guess this episode does suffer a little bit from that too,
[01:00:18] [SPEAKER_05]: because if you don't give us the talk to talk, you know,
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_05]: humanity is going to suffer.
[01:00:22] [SPEAKER_05]: So right.
[01:00:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Or Dan Davidson will wind up having a podcast and everybody's ears will bleed.
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[01:00:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And then you'll have to see your face the whole time.
[01:00:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Danny, you know what doesn't make people's ears bleed?
[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, not not you.
[01:00:36] [SPEAKER_05]: The band five year mission.
[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we love those dudes.
[01:00:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Love them.
[01:00:44] [SPEAKER_05]: They are they're amazing.
[01:00:45] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, we we love their music one song for every episode of the original
[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Star Trek and as we stress every single time these songs are not song parodies.
[01:00:56] [SPEAKER_05]: They're not making fun of Star Trek.
[01:00:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Nope.
[01:00:58] [SPEAKER_05]: They're creating new ways to look at these episodes every single song.
[01:01:02] [SPEAKER_05]: And it's it's great, great stuff.
[01:01:05] [SPEAKER_05]: You can put it on and listen to it all day long and you'll find yourself,
[01:01:08] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, not want to listen to anything else.
[01:01:10] [SPEAKER_05]: At least that's what happens to me.
[01:01:11] [SPEAKER_05]: So go to five year mission dot net get all of those CDs.
[01:01:14] [SPEAKER_05]: Put them in your grubby little hands like Dan Davidson does.
[01:01:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Or maybe your hands are clean.
[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_05]: His usually are not.
[01:01:20] [SPEAKER_05]: But put them in your hands, you know, listen to them on your little record
[01:01:23] [SPEAKER_05]: player or whatever it is and then become a huge fan of five year mission
[01:01:28] [SPEAKER_05]: like we are.
[01:01:29] [SPEAKER_05]: That's five year mission dot net.
[01:01:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Get those CDs.
[01:01:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yo, you know what sucks and you don't think you would use the word sucks
[01:01:37] [SPEAKER_03]: while talking about five year mission.
[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to ignore that.
[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_03]: What sucks is that they're not going to be there being the band at Vegas.
[01:01:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So that one time that they were that I went was phenomenal.
[01:01:47] [SPEAKER_03]: It was like the best time to sit there.
[01:01:48] [SPEAKER_03]: That's probably one time I went into the main auditorium
[01:01:51] [SPEAKER_03]: more than any other convention just to listen to them doing their thing.
[01:01:55] [SPEAKER_03]: It was pretty awesome.
[01:01:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But anyway, I just got out there.
[01:01:59] [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, I get to move on now.
[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, I got something.
[01:02:01] [SPEAKER_03]: I promised it.
[01:02:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I promised it last week.
[01:02:03] [SPEAKER_03]: So you finally did something this week.
[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I this is this is important.
[01:02:07] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to lie.
[01:02:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Dude, seeing you on screen all evening long tonight, looking the way you do.
[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Talking about organs and and scannily clad people all over Risa.
[01:02:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, let's just say the temperature has risen in this here podcast duty.
[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my yeah.
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_03]: It reminds me almost of the time that I found a very special
[01:02:31] [SPEAKER_03]: organ to display on Risa.
[01:02:33] [SPEAKER_03]: And I got to tell you, it's one that is not for the faint of heart.
[01:02:37] [SPEAKER_03]: It looks almost exactly like the ones that we're used to,
[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_03]: but it actually has two drumsticks attached to it because when you're looking
[01:02:44] [SPEAKER_03]: for just that right kind of fun, the fun that will knock you off your feet
[01:02:49] [SPEAKER_03]: and you listen to that sound of incredible percussion.
[01:02:53] [SPEAKER_03]: You want it.
[01:02:55] [SPEAKER_03]: You need it.
[01:02:57] [SPEAKER_03]: And you're just telling the whole world that you want.
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Jafar Karan. Oh, my.
[01:03:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I am all right.
[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_05]: No, you're not.
[01:03:16] [SPEAKER_05]: You're a giant piece of crap.
[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Um, whoo, Jafar Karan.
[01:03:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Wow, I need it.
[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_03]: I need a moment.
[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I agree with Ross, who made it to the stream.
[01:03:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Good to see you, buddy.
[01:03:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, fellow North, fellow North Carolinian.
[01:03:34] [SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm from the South now.
[01:03:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, OK, you know, you're not born here.
[01:03:38] [SPEAKER_03]: You're not an Islander. OK.
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_03]: What do you? I'm not a little jaws line. Sorry.
[01:03:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, but you're a manor, so.
[01:03:47] [SPEAKER_05]: See, yeah, OK.
[01:03:50] [SPEAKER_05]: I love the live reactions to the actual Farcassums.
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, well, we get boozed.
[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_05]: That's a good way.
[01:03:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure. Yeah, speechless.
[01:03:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, in a good way.
[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure.
[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_05]: No, no, that's not what that means.
[01:04:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Dan, it's worth the wait, though, wasn't it, though?
[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_05]: No, no, not just no.
[01:04:11] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm glad I'm not flying with you this year.
[01:04:15] [SPEAKER_05]: That's right. North Carolina represent.
[01:04:18] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
[01:04:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Dan, don't forget that you too.
[01:04:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, you can support.
[01:04:26] [SPEAKER_05]: Can support Trekkiex by subscribing to us on Patreon,

[01:04:38] [SPEAKER_03]: It's pretty awesome.
[01:04:39] [SPEAKER_03]: I got to say, this is only our second week doing this, and it's a great perk.
[01:04:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Isn't it, people?
[01:04:44] [SPEAKER_03]: You get to hear, you know, Farcassums and see Bill's face.
[01:04:46] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's pretty awesome.

[01:05:47] [SPEAKER_03]: What? Hey, mate.
[01:05:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Let's throw another shrimp on the Bobby.

[01:06:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Jude, love you, buddy.
[01:06:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Love the guy, Jude.
[01:06:51] [SPEAKER_03]: Always good to know that you're here.
[01:06:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Go to bed, young man.
[01:06:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, you're not young anymore.
[01:06:55] [SPEAKER_03]: He's just at a birthday.
[01:06:56] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's right. Do what you want.
[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_03]: You're an adult. I'm not going to tell you what to do.
[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. You know what?

[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_05]: next time we'll be returning from our adventures in the desert.
[01:07:20] [SPEAKER_05]: And I say desert because that's how you typed it.
[01:07:23] [SPEAKER_05]: Uh-huh. Well,
[01:07:24] [SPEAKER_05]: the rest of us would say desert because that's where Las Vegas is.
[01:07:28] [SPEAKER_05]: It's in the middle of a desert.
[01:07:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. But next time we'll be returning for our adventures
[01:07:33] [SPEAKER_05]: in fabulous Las Vegas, baby and telling everyone about it.
[01:07:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we certainly will.
[01:07:39] [SPEAKER_03]: It's quite simple. Another STLV will come and will have come and gone.
[01:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: And that means one thing and one thing only.
[01:07:45] [SPEAKER_03]: It's recap time and it's going to happen right here on the flagship.

[01:08:58] [SPEAKER_05]: and you didn't bring anything for coconut?
[01:09:02] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I didn't.

[01:10:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Bing Bong. Bing Bong.
[01:10:21] [SPEAKER_03]: It looks just like you.
[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Right, right. Bald head.
[01:10:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, smiling.
[01:10:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Hey, pal.
[01:10:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Hi.
[01:10:30] [SPEAKER_05]: Dan actually is nutless.
[01:10:31] [SPEAKER_05]: That's amazing.
[01:10:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well anyway.
[01:10:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I am.
[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_03]: That's how did they know that?
[01:10:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, it's funny.
[01:10:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Somebody goes, Dan spent.
[01:10:41] [SPEAKER_03]: I actually am not, but I needed this so bad
[01:10:45] [SPEAKER_03]: that I'm just.
[01:10:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm just enjoying it.
[01:10:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Now, why not?
[01:10:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Right? You're a little loopy tonight.
[01:10:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to lie.
[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I had to.
[01:10:54] [SPEAKER_03]: I had to just let go because otherwise it would have been a boring
[01:10:59] [SPEAKER_03]: monotonous monotone, Dan,
[01:11:01] [SPEAKER_03]: because everything fucking sucks right now.
[01:11:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Great show, everybody. See you next week.
[01:11:10] Yeah.
[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It does.
[01:11:14] [SPEAKER_05]: You get a chance to decompress next week.
[01:11:17] [SPEAKER_05]: You get a chance to do goofy stuff, which I know you are always a big fan of.
[01:11:22] [SPEAKER_05]: But you get a chance to see my face.
[01:11:26] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, you're supposed to be cheering me up.
[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a sunshine day, asshole.
[01:11:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's smiling.
[01:11:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Sunshine day.
[01:11:38] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's laughing.
[01:11:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Sunshine day.
[01:11:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Everybody seems happy today.
[01:11:45] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so.
[01:11:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, yeah.
[01:11:48] [SPEAKER_05]: So hey, pal, as we record this and of course, this will job probably
[01:11:52] [SPEAKER_05]: like I get the last episode out for audio, but this will go live
[01:11:56] [SPEAKER_05]: probably on the 27th when fansets says it's OK.
[01:12:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, which I guess is a Saturday.
[01:12:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Saturday.
[01:12:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Saturday. We'll probably do it Sunday morning.
[01:12:08] [SPEAKER_05]: We really will just have a couple of days till we get to Vegas.
[01:12:11] [SPEAKER_03]: I know, right?
[01:12:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I haven't even started packing yet, which is very unlike me.
[01:12:16] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's not like I got a lot of shit going on, so I'm not sure why I haven't yet.
[01:12:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, here's the thing.
[01:12:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Every usually I would bring in like two big suitcases every year.
[01:12:25] [SPEAKER_05]: It's because I'm one, two cases filled with trekking stuff.
[01:12:27] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:12:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't have to to bring that this year because you shipped it all out.
[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's all it's all confirmed at its location.
[01:12:35] [SPEAKER_03]: So that's good.
[01:12:36] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm trying to get down to one suitcase this year.
[01:12:38] [SPEAKER_03]: I might be on one as well.
[01:12:40] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll see if that actually happens.
[01:12:42] [SPEAKER_03]: If I do too great because not a big deal, just mean that, you know,
[01:12:46] [SPEAKER_03]: can bring some stuff home, but I'm not planning on getting a lot of stuff.
[01:12:50] [SPEAKER_03]: But it's always good to have that extra space if needed
[01:12:54] [SPEAKER_03]: can bring back a little mini me or something.
[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_03]: I don't know.
[01:12:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't think the world is ready for regular size you let alone mini you.
[01:13:02] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a good point.
[01:13:04] [SPEAKER_03]: It's very good point.
[01:13:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Thank you. Thank you.
[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Be here.
[01:13:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I was going to tell you something during the outtake tonight.
[01:13:08] [SPEAKER_03]: I completely forgot what it was.
[01:13:11] [SPEAKER_03]: So you're going on a whale watch, you said?
[01:13:14] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
[01:13:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Tomorrow we are soon are going on a whale watch.
[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_05]: You saw the video at a Portsmouth, New Hampshire,
[01:13:21] [SPEAKER_05]: the whale completely attacking that boat, didn't you?
[01:13:25] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it was going up for apparently was going up.
[01:13:26] [SPEAKER_03]: There was some school of specific kind of specific kind of fish
[01:13:30] [SPEAKER_03]: at the surface and it was coming up to get them.
[01:13:32] [SPEAKER_03]: And it breached and boom right on top of that Boston whaler.
[01:13:38] [SPEAKER_03]: And just took it right out.
[01:13:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Guy went flying.
[01:13:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I can only hope that that happens to you.
[01:13:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
[01:13:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, I don't think I'm really too worried about that
[01:13:46] [SPEAKER_03]: because the boat that we're on is a lot bigger than that.
[01:13:49] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like 65 feet or something like that.
[01:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: And we went just a couple of weeks ago, but we had such a great time.
[01:13:58] [SPEAKER_03]: Sue said, you know what?
[01:13:59] [SPEAKER_03]: You're going to Vegas.
[01:14:00] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take tomorrow off or she said this the other day.
[01:14:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take Friday off.
[01:14:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Let's go on a whale watch again.
[01:14:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I said, OK, let's do it.
[01:14:06] [SPEAKER_03]: So we're going out and last time we went a couple of weeks ago, it rained.
[01:14:09] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's kind of but tomorrow's supposed to be gorgeous.
[01:14:12] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm looking forward to it partly because we we leave out of
[01:14:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Rye, New Hampshire, and it's about a 90 minute boat ride to get to
[01:14:20] [SPEAKER_03]: the spot in the ocean where the where the drop off is where the whales feed.
[01:14:26] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we're going to be there for about an hour, hour and a half.
[01:14:29] [SPEAKER_03]: And then it's an hour and a half back.
[01:14:30] [SPEAKER_03]: So it's it's a it's a long day, but it's a lot of fun.
[01:14:33] [SPEAKER_05]: So answer a question for me.
[01:14:35] [SPEAKER_05]: When you get to the where the whales are.
[01:14:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you go into your Scotty voice and say, Admiral, there be whales here?
[01:14:44] [SPEAKER_03]: I have not done that, but I might.
[01:14:47] [SPEAKER_03]: The last time we went tomorrow, it's just Sue and I, when we went a couple of weeks ago,
[01:14:52] [SPEAKER_03]: it was with my sister, Donna and my brother in law, Chris,
[01:14:55] [SPEAKER_03]: and it's a full boat.
[01:14:57] [SPEAKER_03]: We're on the top level.
[01:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: And anybody who knows JAWS is know will know this, but we're pulling out.
[01:15:04] [SPEAKER_03]: We just get through the no wake portion and we just start gunning it.
[01:15:08] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm, where do we get them silly bastards?
[01:15:12] [SPEAKER_03]: There'll be some fun that wish their fathers had never met their mothers
[01:15:15] [SPEAKER_03]: when they start taking their bottoms out and slamming into them rocks.
[01:15:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Boy, my brother in law, I think he might have peed himself a little bit.
[01:15:23] [SPEAKER_05]: It was when you're getting close to the whales.
[01:15:25] [SPEAKER_05]: Do you go through the Robert Shaw speech?
[01:15:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh,
[01:15:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I should read the way to go.
[01:15:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I should get the microphone from the from the boat guy and just do the to the whole speech right there on the boat.
[01:15:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah. I'm sure everyone would love that.
[01:15:48] [SPEAKER_05]: I don't know if you saw this comment, but apparently you're going to get brought a present.
[01:15:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's nice. OK.
[01:15:54] [SPEAKER_05]: That's because you're everybody's favorite.
[01:15:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that goes out saying.
[01:15:58] [SPEAKER_03]: But I know I'm not sure what what what brought that on.
[01:16:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But OK, one of the things that's cool about these whale watches,
[01:16:05] [SPEAKER_03]: I will say to get back on on that track last a few weeks ago, it was great.
[01:16:09] [SPEAKER_03]: We saw several. We saw we saw a couple sharks.
[01:16:11] [SPEAKER_03]: We saw some dolphins.
[01:16:12] [SPEAKER_03]: We saw two or three different species of whale.
[01:16:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Last year was the year that was the best one so far.
[01:16:19] [SPEAKER_03]: We've been this will be our fourth trip in three years.
[01:16:22] [SPEAKER_03]: But last year when we were leaving that area, there were a couple of baby whales,
[01:16:28] [SPEAKER_03]: calves and they were breaching.
[01:16:30] [SPEAKER_03]: They were shooting up out of the water.
[01:16:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, wow.
[01:16:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Videos that was incredible to watch.
[01:16:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm hoping we get to see that again because the the guides on the tour
[01:16:38] [SPEAKER_03]: a couple weeks ago said that there have been some calves around
[01:16:41] [SPEAKER_03]: and they are the ones that tend to do that more because they like to play.
[01:16:45] [SPEAKER_03]: So hopefully we'll see that tomorrow. That'd be very cool.
[01:16:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Are you going to strip down to your underwear and go swimming with them?
[01:16:52] [SPEAKER_03]: I would. I would not say no to that.
[01:16:56] [SPEAKER_03]: OK. I would love to.
[01:16:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I could like mind meld with it like Spock didn't have my little
[01:17:02] [SPEAKER_03]: my little bandana wrapped around my head and be like, I'm not going to lie.
[01:17:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Back in 86, it was weird to see Spock in his skivvy swimming with whales.
[01:17:10] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.
[01:17:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Because I mean, I never thought about what Spock wears for underwear.
[01:17:14] [SPEAKER_05]: And after that movie, I can't help but think about it.
[01:17:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he wears under-oos because it's underwear that's fun to wear.
[01:17:21] [SPEAKER_03]: And he doesn't have fun most of the time.
[01:17:23] [SPEAKER_03]: That wouldn't be logical.
[01:17:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Why? You can have fun and not show anybody.
[01:17:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Logic is not fun.
[01:17:29] [SPEAKER_05]: Fun is fun. Spock is logical.
[01:17:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Barely likes it.
[01:17:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Don't trauma. Don't traumatize the baby whales.
[01:17:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Thanks, Ross.
[01:17:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Ross has got your number.
[01:17:41] [SPEAKER_03]: He does. He does. 8 6 7 5 3 0 9.
[01:17:45] [SPEAKER_05]: No, that's Jenny's number.
[01:17:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Oh, right. Right.
[01:17:47] [SPEAKER_03]: I keep forgetting that. OK.
[01:17:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway, I've got to say,
[01:17:52] [SPEAKER_03]: hit you on a serious note.
[01:17:55] [SPEAKER_03]: You have known this.
[01:17:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I said to you two days ago, I don't think I want to go to Vegas.
[01:18:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Yep, you did because I am just in a.
[01:18:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Shitty place right now.
[01:18:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Not sure what the future is going to hold.
[01:18:09] [SPEAKER_03]: And I know that I have to go.
[01:18:13] [SPEAKER_03]: I know that I need the break.
[01:18:14] [SPEAKER_03]: I know that I need the fun.
[01:18:16] [SPEAKER_03]: I know that I need the Star Trek family, so I am going definitely.
[01:18:20] [SPEAKER_03]: That is not going to change.
[01:18:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Even if I get something, if I get a job, I am still going
[01:18:25] [SPEAKER_03]: because it is important for me to go.
[01:18:27] [SPEAKER_03]: But I have said to you, why am I bothering?
[01:18:32] [SPEAKER_03]: And it's the it's the friends and family, which is why I'm doing it.
[01:18:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I want to see them.
[01:18:37] [SPEAKER_05]: It made a big difference for me last year
[01:18:39] [SPEAKER_05]: because of course I was laid off last summer
[01:18:42] [SPEAKER_05]: and just being around these people that I see,
[01:18:47] [SPEAKER_05]: you know, once a year, maybe sometimes if I'm lucky
[01:18:50] [SPEAKER_05]: and other people multiple times a year,
[01:18:52] [SPEAKER_05]: it really made a difference for my mental health.
[01:18:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I know how hard this process is,
[01:18:59] [SPEAKER_05]: especially now in an age where job searching
[01:19:00] [SPEAKER_05]: is completely different than it was when you and I were in our 20s and 30s.
[01:19:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:19:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Because the other thing we have to combat now is ageism.
[01:19:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Right.
[01:19:09] [SPEAKER_05]: You know, because, you know, people would rather have somebody
[01:19:12] [SPEAKER_05]: who's cheaper rather than somebody who has experience and is seasoned.
[01:19:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[01:19:18] [SPEAKER_05]: So I believe me, I
[01:19:21] [SPEAKER_05]: I probably understand more than most people having done it recently
[01:19:26] [SPEAKER_05]: and less than a year ago.
[01:19:27] [SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, which our goal this this coming week is just to have fun.
[01:19:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, just to enjoy ourselves.
[01:19:34] [SPEAKER_05]: And we don't have really a schedule.
[01:19:36] [SPEAKER_03]: No, we have no schedule like at all.
[01:19:38] [SPEAKER_05]: We've got a couple of dinners.
[01:19:39] [SPEAKER_05]: We've got a party for for Trek talks.
[01:19:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, but other than that,
[01:19:45] [SPEAKER_05]: we really have an open schedule.
[01:19:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. And Jim is right.
[01:19:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Vegas or any con without you wouldn't be the same here, here.
[01:19:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Think of that in New Jersey.
[01:19:56] [SPEAKER_03]: Because you're going and I'm not.
[01:19:58] [SPEAKER_05]: It'll be much better.
[01:20:01] [SPEAKER_05]: See, he said it wouldn't be the same.
[01:20:02] [SPEAKER_05]: He didn't say it would be worse.
[01:20:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Good point.
[01:20:05] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, that's a good that's that's a great way
[01:20:07] [SPEAKER_03]: to really hide what you're thinking, but still make it look like you're being a good person.
[01:20:11] [SPEAKER_05]: That's a great great song.
[01:20:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Great song by Toto off their isolation album called It's Not the Same.
[01:20:17] [SPEAKER_05]: It's not the same without your love.
[01:20:19] [SPEAKER_05]: I never say whether it's good or bad.
[01:20:23] [SPEAKER_03]: No, that's not.
[01:20:24] [SPEAKER_03]: I appreciate it.
[01:20:25] [SPEAKER_03]: No, it's it's been a very stressful.
[01:20:29] [SPEAKER_03]: You know, it's been three weeks now,
[01:20:30] [SPEAKER_03]: but the last few days have been extremely stressful
[01:20:34] [SPEAKER_03]: and agitating and scary.
[01:20:39] [SPEAKER_03]: But I know that I need it.
[01:20:41] [SPEAKER_03]: And I know that I need to be out there.
[01:20:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm glad it's happening when it is because if it wasn't,
[01:20:47] [SPEAKER_03]: that is a very dark abyss I'm staring into right now.
[01:20:50] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'm looking forward to it.
[01:20:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, I think the first thing you need to do is to to minimize the abyss.
[01:20:57] [SPEAKER_05]: I think the more you call it an abyss, the more it is.
[01:21:00] [SPEAKER_05]: And that's what happened to me.
[01:21:00] [SPEAKER_05]: OK.
[01:21:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Something will happen.
[01:21:04] [SPEAKER_05]: It just may not happen on the time frame you expect.
[01:21:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Right, right.
[01:21:09] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think that's the thing to keep in mind.
[01:21:10] [SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't necessarily mean it's an abyss, but it may mean that.
[01:21:15] [SPEAKER_05]: And I know this is not easy for you.
[01:21:17] [SPEAKER_05]: You may need to be a little more patient.
[01:21:20] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. And that's what I was going to say.
[01:21:22] [SPEAKER_03]: I absolutely agree with you,
[01:21:25] [SPEAKER_03]: but you know how I am and how I am wired.
[01:21:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And that is just like impossible.
[01:21:32] [SPEAKER_03]: So I can't fault you for that.
[01:21:34] [SPEAKER_05]: I really can't.
[01:21:35] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
[01:21:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we we've we've been through things and you know exactly how I'm wired
[01:21:40] [SPEAKER_03]: with stuff like that.
[01:21:40] [SPEAKER_03]: So but that being said, I've got my I've got some I got my my admiral's
[01:21:46] [SPEAKER_03]: outfit right over here ready to be packed.
[01:21:48] [SPEAKER_03]: I've got a couple of things I haven't packed anything yet.
[01:21:50] [SPEAKER_03]: I got my entire whole giant fricking thing of different
[01:21:56] [SPEAKER_03]: fan sets, badges that are deltas and pins that I'm going to be bringing to wear.
[01:22:00] [SPEAKER_03]: So I got stuff ready to pack.
[01:22:02] [SPEAKER_03]: I just got to do it.
[01:22:03] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sure once I get there, I will be in a much better place.
[01:22:06] [SPEAKER_03]: I certainly hope so because if not, I'm just going to be screaming
[01:22:09] [SPEAKER_03]: at you the whole time.
[01:22:10] [SPEAKER_05]: So wow, can't wait for that.
[01:22:14] [SPEAKER_05]: All right, buddy.
[01:22:16] [SPEAKER_05]: It's a package, would you?
[01:22:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. Yes.
[01:22:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Say good night, Gracie.
[01:22:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Good night, Gracie.

[01:22:26] [SPEAKER_05]: For those of you going to Vegas, we'll see you at the booth.
[01:22:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Remember, if you like the booth, say Banana Hammock.
[01:22:31] [SPEAKER_05]: We'll give a slide to one of these bad boys.
[01:22:33] [SPEAKER_05]: Yep.
[01:22:33] [SPEAKER_05]: These beautiful pins and Dan will be wearing his banana hammock.
[01:22:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And also don't forget any of you Patreons who are at the level to get a pin.
[01:22:41] [SPEAKER_03]: We will have our Patreon pins for this year available.
[01:22:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So I'll be able to give them to you then.
[01:22:45] [SPEAKER_03]: So just make sure you come and see me for that.
[01:22:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And we'll get you all taken care of.
[01:22:49] [SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be a great time.
[01:22:50] [SPEAKER_03]: We're looking forward to it.
[01:22:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to practice my Vajshimi for the phaser thing.
[01:22:54] [SPEAKER_03]: And we're just going to have a fantastic time.
[01:22:56] [SPEAKER_05]: The Vajshimi.
[01:22:57] [SPEAKER_05]: You may have to conduct a class on that.
[01:23:01] [SPEAKER_05]: That's happening.
[01:23:01] [SPEAKER_05]: You know what?
[01:23:02] [SPEAKER_03]: That's what we should talk to creation about.
[01:23:04] [SPEAKER_03]: That's a panel, baby.
[01:23:07] [SPEAKER_03]: See you, everybody.
[01:23:08] [SPEAKER_05]: All right, everybody.
[01:23:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Thank you so much.
[01:23:10] [SPEAKER_05]: We will see you next time.
