[00:00:00] Welcome to Season 5 of the Big Sci-Fi Podcast with Adina, Brian, Chris and Steve, the biggest

[00:00:14] sci-fi podcast in the galaxy.

[00:00:17] The adventure is just beginning here at the Big Sci-Fi Podcast and we invite you to come

[00:00:21] aboard the Starship Tangent.

[00:00:23] We know you'll enjoy the conversation, the laughter, the banner back and forth, and

[00:00:28] most of all, friends who love hanging out to talk about all things science fiction.

[00:00:32] Set your phasers to fun, here we go.

[00:00:35] Greetings to all of our loyal listeners.

[00:00:37] We are so very grateful for the support you have shown us over the last two years.

[00:00:42] It was just over two years ago that this merry band of sci-fi fans embarked on a

[00:00:46] journey together that has taken us farther and created more friendships and connections

[00:00:51] than we ever dreamed possible.

[00:00:54] The four of us had this crazy idea for a podcast that would cover the span of the science

[00:00:58] fiction world.

[00:01:00] We were brought together because of our love for Star Trek and for our love of writing

[00:01:04] about Trek.

[00:01:06] When that voyage ended, we decided to volunteer for another mission together and we've

[00:01:11] never looked back.

[00:01:13] We just keep voyaging and finding new movies and television shows and books and

[00:01:17] topics to discuss.

[00:01:19] Our fun has never subsided and our friendship has grown stronger.

[00:01:23] I can personally say that I consider my co-host to be some of my best friends.

[00:01:28] People throughout the galaxy, I declare to you that this is our 100th episode of the

[00:01:36] Big Sci-Fi Podcast.

[00:01:38] I tried to do my best Steve Merkin.

[00:01:40] Big Sci-Fi Podcast.

[00:01:41] Big Sci-Fi Podcast, yeah.

[00:01:44] Okay, Hulk Hogan, calm down there.

[00:01:48] With that being said, it's my privilege to introduce three people that are good

[00:01:52] friends, compadres in podcasting from the great state of Maryland, Adina Mignona.

[00:01:58] Hey everybody, I can't believe 100.

[00:02:00] That's 100.

[00:02:02] 100.

[00:02:03] I remember our first episode, Adina, I butchered your last name.

[00:02:07] I feel confident now that I can grow too.

[00:02:10] Somebody call my wife.

[00:02:11] I can grow.

[00:02:13] And from Toronto, Canada, Christian Fox.

[00:02:17] Hey, everybody.

[00:02:18] And what's wild to me about 100 is that if we can do 100, I mean, it basically means

[00:02:24] we can keep going.

[00:02:25] Like I think I've heard that if you get to 100, it means you're solid and we

[00:02:29] can potentially get to 600 one day.

[00:02:31] Oh my goodness.

[00:02:32] More wild.

[00:02:33] Shooting for the stars as usual, Mr.

[00:02:36] Chris Fox.

[00:02:36] Glad you're with us today.

[00:02:38] And from sunny Los Angeles, though we won't hold that against him, the sunny

[00:02:42] part that is because he can't control that.

[00:02:45] That's in California.

[00:02:46] I think Los Angeles is in California.

[00:02:48] Stephen Merkin, how you doing friend?

[00:02:51] I am so happy.

[00:02:55] I am so happy that we came together and are doing this and having so much fun

[00:03:03] doing it.

[00:03:03] People do not know the joy that happens before the broadcast and after

[00:03:09] the broadcast and then everything in between.

[00:03:11] So there you are.

[00:03:13] Thank you, sir.

[00:03:14] My name is Brian Donahue.

[00:03:16] I'm from Ohio.

[00:03:17] And once again, in case you forgot in the last two minutes, this is the 100

[00:03:21] episode of The Big Sci-Fi Podcast.

[00:03:24] OK guys, let's talk about some of our favorite moments, our guest episodes

[00:03:28] from the past two years if we can remember because for me that's getting

[00:03:33] harder and harder now that I'm over 40.

[00:03:36] We are, for the sake of time though, going to have to at least have somewhat

[00:03:41] of a curated and guided discussion.

[00:03:43] Otherwise, we could go on forever because we've had so many guests, which

[00:03:47] I'll list in just a moment.

[00:03:48] Oh my goodness.

[00:03:50] But these podcast notes may become completely irrelevant, however, as we

[00:03:56] start actually getting into our conversation.

[00:03:59] So let's do this.

[00:04:00] OK, just to kind of kick us off guys, 100th episode, two plus years.

[00:04:05] Describe briefly what the past two years have meant to you being a part

[00:04:10] of The Big Sci-Fi Podcast.

[00:04:12] And let's let the engineer go first.

[00:04:17] Let's let Adina go first.

[00:04:19] Wow.

[00:04:20] Well, looking back and I think when we first started, I used to tell this

[00:04:25] story a lot where in the four to six months or several months prior to when

[00:04:30] we started, I had been a guest on other people's podcasts, mostly to

[00:04:35] promote my first book.

[00:04:36] And inevitably they would always ask, oh, are you going to podcast?

[00:04:40] And my reaction was like, no.

[00:04:44] Yeah, it really like I just because I know how much work it is and we do

[00:04:48] put in a lot of work.

[00:04:49] But when I was thinking about it at that, you know, when they when they

[00:04:53] asked me, it was kind of like a will you you on your own do a podcast?

[00:04:57] And so, yeah, it was a big, big no.

[00:05:00] But then when we found each other to do this and things clicked.

[00:05:04] So if you had asked me like right before we started doing it, would you do this?

[00:05:08] I was like that.

[00:05:09] I didn't imagine it.

[00:05:11] So to have to go like from no to yeah, to oh my God, this is like some

[00:05:19] of the most fun stuff I do every single week has been just amazing.

[00:05:23] And I love you guys.

[00:05:24] I am so grateful that we found each other and we've been doing this and

[00:05:28] we're still having fun doing it.

[00:05:30] Right.

[00:05:31] There you have it.

[00:05:32] Can I quote you Adina?

[00:05:34] What's that?

[00:05:35] Which part?

[00:05:36] Oh, like to say, I like to type that.

[00:05:43] That was totally involuntary.

[00:05:45] I had no control over that last all ladies and gentlemen.

[00:05:48] I just I saw Steve do it and it was like a yawn.

[00:05:51] I had to do it too.

[00:05:52] Steve, how about you, sir?

[00:05:55] Simply put, I have three unbelievably great friends growing up in L.A.,

[00:06:02] loving sci fi since I was old enough to turn on the TV, to now been able to share

[00:06:07] my long history in this genre with three equally intense fans.

[00:06:12] It's been a great pleasure and I look forward to every Wednesday.

[00:06:17] I look forward to discussing TV shows, a movie, a book.

[00:06:22] And then I look back at all the people we have interviewed.

[00:06:27] I mean, it's amazing.

[00:06:31] And you're going to mention those names.

[00:06:32] I hope everybody is completely blown away by the number of people we've interviewed

[00:06:37] and the length and breadth of them.

[00:06:40] And all I can say is I'm going to quote Bob Cratchit.

[00:06:44] I am a lucky man.

[00:06:47] Beautiful.

[00:06:48] There you go.

[00:06:49] But I just want to clarify just for our listeners, because our episodes drop on

[00:06:54] Friday.

[00:06:55] But Steve, you mentioned looking forward to Wednesdays and I might have mentioned

[00:06:57] that too for our listeners to know we record on Wednesdays.

[00:07:01] Thank you.

[00:07:02] Just so people know we record ahead of time on Wednesdays.

[00:07:04] Weeks ahead of time on Wednesdays.

[00:07:07] Very good.

[00:07:08] Christian, how about you, sir?

[00:07:10] I feel the same way.

[00:07:12] It's just like what a cool thing to be essentially hanging out with your best

[00:07:16] friends and being able to talk about sci fi.

[00:07:19] And the fact that any time I watch a sci fi show or a Trek episode and I

[00:07:24] have a thought, I'm like, you know what?

[00:07:26] I can tell the podcast crew this and they'll actually appreciate it.

[00:07:29] And it's like a guarantee.

[00:07:30] The fact we do it every Wednesday.

[00:07:31] It's like no matter what's going on in the week, no matter how tough or how

[00:07:35] stressful things get, it's like that two hours that we have together are just

[00:07:39] some of the most fun, relaxing.

[00:07:41] It just always feel good at the end of it.

[00:07:44] Like the week is always better when we've recorded, which is has been

[00:07:48] pretty much every week now.

[00:07:50] Yeah. Wow.

[00:07:51] That's amazing. That's amazing.

[00:07:54] Go ahead, Steve.

[00:07:54] I was going to say, and the most amazing thing with people may or may not was

[00:07:59] we recorded for almost a year and a half before we physically met each other

[00:08:05] last May at Trek Long Island.

[00:08:08] And the thing of it was is that when we met each other, it wasn't a surprise.

[00:08:13] It wasn't like, wow, we've seen each other.

[00:08:17] We spoke into each other.

[00:08:18] We shared our good days, our bad days.

[00:08:22] And that made that meeting completely natural.

[00:08:25] So yeah.

[00:08:26] Totally did.

[00:08:27] That was an incredible experience.

[00:08:30] And we get to do it again here at the end of May, May 31st through June

[00:08:35] 2nd in Trek Long Island again.

[00:08:37] We're going to be there with some other podcasting friends and other

[00:08:42] people that we've interviewed and met online that we're looking forward to

[00:08:46] meeting in person.

[00:08:47] And oh my goodness, this is going to be a great time.

[00:08:50] And you're right, Steve.

[00:08:51] That was to me last May something that I was like, man, these guys really are

[00:08:56] my friends because we never met in person.

[00:08:59] But when we did meet, it was just natural.

[00:09:01] Like there was that momentary thrill of seeing you guys.

[00:09:07] But then five minutes into it, it's like, yeah, these hang out with these

[00:09:11] people every week anyways.

[00:09:13] So it was awesome.

[00:09:15] And so for me, it's been quite a ride.

[00:09:20] As you guys know, I've got another podcast too.

[00:09:23] So I'm quite busy editing and recording throughout the week.

[00:09:27] But I think Chris said it beautifully like this is always something I look

[00:09:33] forward to.

[00:09:35] And when we don't have it together and even when one of us isn't here,

[00:09:41] it's not quite the same.

[00:09:42] It's still great.

[00:09:44] But it's and it's better than nothing, of course.

[00:09:46] But I just when we're all together and we have just a fun time and we're

[00:09:50] laughing, it does kind of feel like like we get to escape into this world,

[00:09:57] this sci-fi galaxy where four friends just get to talk about something we love

[00:10:03] and shut out the world for a little bit.

[00:10:05] Sometimes though, we don't sometimes we bring our lives into the podcast

[00:10:08] too, which I think is great.

[00:10:10] And hopefully our listeners learn about us and feel like they know us.

[00:10:15] Like they're one of the crew.

[00:10:16] That's what we said.

[00:10:18] Right.

[00:10:18] Remember pitching that originally guys to each other, like, hey,

[00:10:21] we want this to feel like we are in our living room, one of our living

[00:10:25] rooms sitting on couches talking about science fiction.

[00:10:30] Like people should be able to imagine us with our coffee, our tea, maybe

[00:10:34] a glass of wine, whatever, and just chit chatting.

[00:10:38] And like they're a part of it.

[00:10:39] Like they're in our living room with us.

[00:10:41] And I think we're achieving that.

[00:10:43] That's what I hear from folks.

[00:10:45] I know that watch, listen to the podcast that they feel like we're real

[00:10:49] friends and like they're a part of the conversation.

[00:10:52] Well put.

[00:10:53] Thank you.

[00:10:53] So, oh, see totally involuntary.

[00:10:59] Steve's got a magic power we just discovered over my body.

[00:11:02] That's what we call it.

[00:11:04] Avlovians, aww.

[00:11:06] It's contagious.

[00:11:07] I did it again.

[00:11:08] Gah, gee willikers.

[00:11:11] Did you ever think we better move on before he does it again?

[00:11:14] Did you ever think we would be a hundred episodes into this

[00:11:17] and still going strong?

[00:11:19] I'm going to answer first.

[00:11:20] I always dream big and I love to start things.

[00:11:26] I'm a pastor.

[00:11:27] I'm a church planner, which means I start.

[00:11:30] I've been a part of several new churches starting.

[00:11:32] I love starting things guys.

[00:11:34] Even coloring pages, I love to start.

[00:11:39] Emphasis on start.

[00:11:42] And so there are obviously things in my life that have continued

[00:11:48] that I've started, but I am just so gratified and thankful

[00:11:53] that we're a hundred episode because it would have been easy

[00:11:56] after the first season to say, aww, it's not like a million

[00:12:00] followers are listening.

[00:12:02] So let's just go ahead and not waste our time.

[00:12:04] But we were having so much fun and we did have people tell us

[00:12:08] they thought we had a great podcast

[00:12:10] and we should keep going.

[00:12:11] And we did.

[00:12:12] And so to be back here a hundred episodes in,

[00:12:16] going strong, no thoughts of quitting

[00:12:21] and just riding this ride as long as we can

[00:12:24] is pretty cool to me.

[00:12:26] Yeah, I think a few episodes in,

[00:12:29] I definitely saw that we weren't going to be ending

[00:12:32] anytime soon.

[00:12:33] It was obvious to me.

[00:12:35] I didn't think of it from a numbers point of view,

[00:12:37] but more just a, this isn't, it's just like right,

[00:12:39] it's the same right now is I predict that

[00:12:43] except for our known breaks,

[00:12:45] we will are continuing this indefinitely.

[00:12:47] And I felt like that since very, very, very early on.

[00:12:49] So yes, I'd say absolutely.

[00:12:52] I saw that we were gonna get to a hundred episodes.

[00:12:54] I see we'll get to 200 and 500

[00:12:56] and who knows what's beyond that.

[00:12:58] Hmm. How about you, Chris?

[00:13:00] I, yeah, it's the same thing where,

[00:13:03] when we were talking about doing the podcast,

[00:13:05] it's like, okay, let's see how this works.

[00:13:07] But then within two or three episodes,

[00:13:09] if I'll like, yeah,

[00:13:10] we're gonna be able to get to a hundred episodes.

[00:13:12] I just didn't realize we'd be there right now.

[00:13:14] I'm like, wait, we're already at a hundred episodes.

[00:13:16] You thought, you're sure it's not like 65.

[00:13:18] Right, right.

[00:13:19] It's just cause like, has it already been,

[00:13:20] what was it, what, two and a half years now?

[00:13:23] Yeah. Just over two.

[00:13:24] Just two years and two months.

[00:13:26] Which is wild to me.

[00:13:28] Mm-hmm.

[00:13:30] Well, I'll say that, you know,

[00:13:32] I think back when we first started

[00:13:35] and we were just getting our feet wet

[00:13:37] and there were times I thought,

[00:13:39] what are we gonna talk about next week?

[00:13:42] And we found something to talk about next week.

[00:13:44] And then we found something else to talk about next week.

[00:13:48] And then we interviewed someone

[00:13:51] and that led to something else.

[00:13:53] And I look back at our list of movies and TV shows

[00:13:58] and people we've interviewed

[00:13:59] and it's just seemed like this is so natural

[00:14:02] because we all have something to share.

[00:14:05] So a hundred episodes, I never thought

[00:14:09] I'd put a number on it or thought where we would be

[00:14:12] but I wrote as for going strong,

[00:14:15] we haven't even broken a sweat yet kids.

[00:14:17] Right. We're still going.

[00:14:19] So I say bring on episode number 200

[00:14:21] and number 300 and 400 and 500

[00:14:24] until we say, let's do another one.

[00:14:29] Right.

[00:14:30] There's so much insight.

[00:14:31] I mean, and that's the nice thing

[00:14:32] that we're very broad science fiction

[00:14:34] because there is just, there's so much to talk about.

[00:14:36] It's really easy to talk to.

[00:14:38] There's literature, there's movies,

[00:14:40] there's TV shows, there's old stuff,

[00:14:41] there's new stuff, there is everything.

[00:14:45] Yeah.

[00:14:46] And I'm gonna share with you guys.

[00:14:47] I don't know if I've ever said this to you guys.

[00:14:50] I was not excited about doing something other

[00:14:53] than Star Trek when we first started.

[00:14:55] Have I ever shared that with you guys?

[00:14:57] No. I don't think so.

[00:14:58] I was like, I was content to just do Star Trek

[00:15:03] because in a way Star Trek is limitless

[00:15:07] cause they just keep making stuff.

[00:15:08] Now if you stop making stuff,

[00:15:10] then that becomes maybe a few years an issue.

[00:15:14] But more stuff, they're gonna make more stuff.

[00:15:16] It's incredible.

[00:15:18] But as I was like, well, I really like these guys.

[00:15:22] We'll give it a shot and if it lasts five episodes,

[00:15:26] 10 episodes, we'll have fun and we'll see.

[00:15:30] But I knew early on that we had something special

[00:15:37] when my sister-in-law Miriam and her husband Wade

[00:15:41] and their adult daughter Josephine

[00:15:45] listened to the first episode over dinner.

[00:15:49] They just said, hey, let's listen to,

[00:15:51] and I think we talked about Star Trek Generations.

[00:15:55] Well that was our first.

[00:15:56] If I'm not mistaken, somebody looked that up.

[00:15:58] I'll look that up.

[00:16:00] But anyways, I asked her what she thought

[00:16:05] and she literally went, oh my God, we love it.

[00:16:08] It's fantastic. That's awesome.

[00:16:10] It's really good, Brian.

[00:16:11] Oh, we love Adina.

[00:16:13] We love Steve.

[00:16:14] We love Chris.

[00:16:14] You, ah.

[00:16:17] No, but they were like,

[00:16:19] and they started listening to it originally.

[00:16:22] That was their dinner plan every Friday

[00:16:24] or whenever they chose, maybe it wasn't Friday,

[00:16:27] but whenever a new episode would come out,

[00:16:29] they would always say, hey,

[00:16:30] we've turned it on while we're eating dinner.

[00:16:32] And I thought, man, what a beautiful thing.

[00:16:34] And you know their family,

[00:16:36] but family are the harshest critics

[00:16:39] and they happen to be sci-fi fans

[00:16:42] and love just about everything.

[00:16:44] They're very eclectic and diverse in their tastes.

[00:16:47] And, but I kept hearing that as we got on.

[00:16:50] New people that would listen to it

[00:16:52] that I knew that I would have contact with here,

[00:16:55] mostly in Ohio, would say,

[00:16:58] it's like you guys haven't met each other.

[00:17:02] Like people have been baffled by you.

[00:17:04] You seriously?

[00:17:05] How can Steve be in Los Angeles

[00:17:07] and Chris in Toronto and Adina in Maryland,

[00:17:09] you know, what in the world?

[00:17:11] How'd you guys meet?

[00:17:13] And so it's just been fun guys.

[00:17:16] It's just been fun.

[00:17:17] And so speaking of guests.

[00:17:21] Here comes the list kids.

[00:17:23] As we could be mushy all night long if you want to.

[00:17:27] We're gonna keep being mushy.

[00:17:29] Come on.

[00:17:29] Let's not kid ourselves.

[00:17:32] So here's-

[00:17:32] Before you go.

[00:17:33] Yeah, go ahead.

[00:17:34] Go ahead, Steve.

[00:17:35] Let me know when you start

[00:17:36] because I'm gonna hit a stopwatch

[00:17:38] and I wanna see how long it's gonna take you

[00:17:40] to say all the names of all the people

[00:17:43] we have interviewed.

[00:17:45] Fantastic.

[00:17:46] So far, so far.

[00:17:47] So whenever you're ready.

[00:17:48] All right.

[00:17:49] Here's the word you need to listen for,

[00:17:52] Steve is appearance.

[00:17:54] In order of appearance.

[00:17:56] Okay.

[00:17:57] That's when you hit the watch.

[00:17:58] Okay.

[00:17:59] I will do that.

[00:18:00] Speaking of special guests,

[00:18:03] we've had a lot of fantastic guests

[00:18:05] on the show over the last two years.

[00:18:07] In order of appearance,

[00:18:09] Tommy Kraft,

[00:18:10] Jackie Naiman,

[00:18:11] Doug Drexler,

[00:18:12] Michael Moore,

[00:18:13] John Billingsley,

[00:18:14] Frank Mignona,

[00:18:16] David, I almost screwed that up.

[00:18:18] Oh my gosh.

[00:18:19] Frank Mignona,

[00:18:20] David Gerald,

[00:18:21] Larry Nemechek,

[00:18:22] David Livingston,

[00:18:23] Doug Drexler again,

[00:18:25] Rick Mastracchio,

[00:18:27] Jamie Anderson,

[00:18:28] JD Cullum,

[00:18:29] Laura Banks,

[00:18:30] Michael Indoniso-Cuda,

[00:18:32] Stephanie Gagnon-

[00:18:33] How do you say?

[00:18:35] Gagnon.

[00:18:35] Gagnon.

[00:18:37] Michelle Heard,

[00:18:38] Bruce Horak,

[00:18:38] Margot Rose,

[00:18:39] Matt Kaplan,

[00:18:40] John Billingsley again,

[00:18:42] with Jonathan Del Arco

[00:18:44] and Natalie Castellanos.

[00:18:47] That was around the-

[00:18:49] Strike. Strike.

[00:18:50] Strike, yeah, that's right.

[00:18:51] And that was a fantastic episode.

[00:18:52] John Scalzi,

[00:18:54] Dayton Ward and Keith R.A. DiCandido,

[00:18:57] Robin Curtis,

[00:18:59] hey!

[00:19:00] Remember that?

[00:19:01] Yeah, that's a classic.

[00:19:02] Herman Schimerman,

[00:19:03] Jeffrey Morris,

[00:19:05] Phyllis Strong,

[00:19:06] Christopher D. Abbott,

[00:19:07] Isa Briones,

[00:19:08] she was fun,

[00:19:09] David Mack,

[00:19:10] Davy Perez,

[00:19:12] and Rick Mastracchio again.

[00:19:14] And he's always fun.

[00:19:16] Right, he's always fun.

[00:19:17] Yes.

[00:19:17] One minute, seven seconds.

[00:19:20] Okay.

[00:19:21] One minute to say all those names.

[00:19:23] Fantastic.

[00:19:25] Did you guys-

[00:19:26] Come on, originally we never thought

[00:19:28] we'd get to talk to Mike and Denise Ocuda.

[00:19:30] No.

[00:19:31] You know what I mean?

[00:19:32] This is one of those things where it's like,

[00:19:34] if I could talk to younger me,

[00:19:36] and I'm like, hey, by the way,

[00:19:38] you know what those people used to watch

[00:19:39] when you'd watch all the special features

[00:19:42] of the Trek movies?

[00:19:43] Yeah.

[00:19:44] You're gonna meet them one day

[00:19:45] and you're gonna actually interview them

[00:19:46] on a podcast that people like.

[00:19:47] It's like, what?

[00:19:48] Is this the coolest thing ever?

[00:19:50] My dad

[00:19:53] has been listening off and on at least.

[00:19:55] And especially when I tell him

[00:19:57] we're having a special guest

[00:19:58] or talking about a particular movie

[00:20:01] that I know he likes,

[00:20:02] I'll let him know,

[00:20:03] I'm sure he'll listen this week for sure.

[00:20:05] But the special guest that got the biggest,

[00:20:08] oh man, I'm jealous,

[00:20:10] was Armand Schimmerman.

[00:20:12] Oh really?

[00:20:13] Because for him,

[00:20:14] Cork is the all time greatest

[00:20:15] Star Trek character.

[00:20:17] He's always loved Cork,

[00:20:19] loved every Ferengi episode

[00:20:22] on Game Space Nine.

[00:20:24] So anyways, guys,

[00:20:28] speaking of special guests again,

[00:20:30] who has been your favorite?

[00:20:33] And I'm gonna give,

[00:20:34] because Adina's here guys.

[00:20:35] Oh gosh.

[00:20:36] I'm gonna give us two special guests

[00:20:40] and why.

[00:20:42] And I guess if you don't ramble on too long,

[00:20:47] I might let you do a third special mention

[00:20:50] if you have it. Okay.

[00:20:51] How does one choose?

[00:20:53] Well, it's called

[00:20:56] choosing two only

[00:20:57] cause that's the rule.

[00:20:58] I don't know how to say it.

[00:21:01] So you guys have the list here.

[00:21:03] Hopefully you thought about it.

[00:21:04] Oh yeah.

[00:21:05] Let's let Steve go first, okay?

[00:21:07] Okay.

[00:21:08] This is what I wrote.

[00:21:10] Two.

[00:21:12] Are you kidding?

[00:21:14] Exactly.

[00:21:15] Exactly.

[00:21:17] So many have been a true luck to interview.

[00:21:22] But if it has to be two,

[00:21:24] number one

[00:21:26] is Rick Mastraccio.

[00:21:28] Is that right?

[00:21:30] Mastraccio.

[00:21:31] Mastraccio.

[00:21:32] I wrote,

[00:21:33] he was a freaking astronaut

[00:21:36] that went to the ISS four times.

[00:21:39] Blew on three shuttle missions

[00:21:41] and learned Russian to fly on the Soyuz.

[00:21:44] Nine spacewalks.

[00:21:47] It would be like talking to Sandy Koufax

[00:21:49] and asking him how he throws a curve ball.

[00:21:53] But number two,

[00:21:54] but not number two in line,

[00:21:55] number one in my heart

[00:21:57] is Michelle Hurd.

[00:22:00] You look up the word smile in the dictionary

[00:22:03] and her photo is right next to it.

[00:22:06] Well, she got to speak with my lovely wife Elaine

[00:22:09] and that was so great.

[00:22:10] Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

[00:22:12] And then when I got to meet her in person

[00:22:15] at Star Trek Day at the Paramount Studios

[00:22:17] back on September the 8th of last year,

[00:22:20] we were all done talking.

[00:22:22] She leaned over and gave me a big hug.

[00:22:25] I mean, what a special person

[00:22:29] and lucky, but I will say one thing.

[00:22:32] When you mentioned earlier about Mike and Denise Akuta,

[00:22:34] they're a perfect example of,

[00:22:37] I didn't hound them.

[00:22:38] I asked them repeatedly if we could interview them.

[00:22:41] There was always a no.

[00:22:43] Finally, they said yes.

[00:22:45] They came on the show.

[00:22:46] We could kind of see their body language

[00:22:48] was a little like,

[00:22:50] who are these people?

[00:22:51] Why am I doing that?

[00:22:52] And when it was all said and done afterwards,

[00:22:55] I got a message from Denise saying,

[00:22:57] how much fun she and Mike had.

[00:22:59] And I think that's the thing

[00:23:01] that we bring to all our interviews.

[00:23:04] Fun and we give a hoot and a holler

[00:23:06] who they are as well.

[00:23:08] Right, right.

[00:23:10] Christian, how about you?

[00:23:12] Yeah, so this was really tough

[00:23:13] but I think number one for me,

[00:23:15] Armand Zimmerman just because it's quark.

[00:23:18] It's like, this is a guy I grew up watching.

[00:23:21] Like if I'm watching DS9,

[00:23:23] obviously I love everybody.

[00:23:26] But for me, it's always about,

[00:23:27] comes down to quark and Odo.

[00:23:30] So being able to talk to Armand Zimmerman was amazing.

[00:23:32] Armand was amazing.

[00:23:33] And then number two is Michelle Hurd

[00:23:35] for the same reason that Steve was mentioning.

[00:23:38] She was just so friendly.

[00:23:39] And it was like, I don't know.

[00:23:41] I've never felt,

[00:23:42] I always feel good when we talk to a guest

[00:23:44] but there was something about her

[00:23:45] that just made you feel really good.

[00:23:47] Like she was a feel-good guest

[00:23:49] and she was just so friendly

[00:23:51] and seemed really genuine.

[00:23:53] And I remember not actually talking to her

[00:23:55] the year before, but I saw her calming down a fan.

[00:23:57] I think there was a fan that was having a rough time

[00:24:00] and she was like sitting with this fan

[00:24:02] and like helping them out

[00:24:03] and she just really is a genuine person.

[00:24:06] So yeah, solid number two.

[00:24:09] Yeah, you have a special mention.

[00:24:10] I think interviewing is more fun for,

[00:24:13] like she was more fun than Armand

[00:24:14] but Armand just because it's like,

[00:24:16] I can't believe we're actually interviewing him.

[00:24:18] And special mention,

[00:24:20] this is where it gets very dicey

[00:24:21] because David Prez was phenomenal.

[00:24:25] Love talking to him.

[00:24:26] But Doug Drexler is just so much fun talking to.

[00:24:32] I love just his attitude.

[00:24:35] So I'd probably say Doug Drexler.

[00:24:37] Okay, great.

[00:24:39] I didn't give you my honorable mention.

[00:24:41] Oh yeah, you did.

[00:24:42] Mike and Denise, I thought.

[00:24:43] Oh yeah, yeah.

[00:24:44] That's right.

[00:24:45] If you got someone else, go ahead.

[00:24:46] I was just gonna say,

[00:24:47] no, that was about just getting them.

[00:24:49] Actually that is, we'll go with that.

[00:24:50] We'll go with that.

[00:24:51] Okay, cool.

[00:24:52] Adina.

[00:24:53] Oh my God.

[00:24:54] You're asking to,

[00:24:57] I don't do well.

[00:24:58] Anyone who's listened to me try to choose a favorite.

[00:25:01] I don't do well with favorites.

[00:25:03] Just because it's hard.

[00:25:04] You really don't.

[00:25:04] It's hard, it's hard.

[00:25:06] And I'm gonna say every single person

[00:25:09] that we spoke with was such a treat.

[00:25:12] Every single one.

[00:25:14] I'm looking at this list of names

[00:25:16] and I'm like, oh, but talking to him was so awesome.

[00:25:19] Oh, talking to her was so awesome.

[00:25:21] Every single one was unique

[00:25:23] and there's such a range of people.

[00:25:27] People on screen, people behind screen, literary folks.

[00:25:32] So the only one, if he is listening to it,

[00:25:35] the only one who for me is less special is Rick

[00:25:37] and that's only because I can talk to him every day.

[00:25:39] Every day, right?

[00:25:40] He's not on your list.

[00:25:41] That works.

[00:25:42] He's not, no, but honestly, I love talking to Rick

[00:25:45] and whenever we,

[00:25:47] I talk to him almost every day.

[00:25:49] There's some meeting or something

[00:25:51] and I do enjoy being around him

[00:25:52] because he's got a great attitude.

[00:25:55] Just, so I do, I love being around him.

[00:25:58] He's awesome.

[00:25:59] But I think, so if I have to narrow it down to two,

[00:26:03] I'm gonna go with the two that are currently

[00:26:07] most impacting my writing life right now.

[00:26:13] And you think that would mean John Scalzi

[00:26:16] is he is my right now favorite contemporary living

[00:26:20] science fiction author and being able to meet him

[00:26:22] was just amazing.

[00:26:25] But the two that had the most impact in my writing life

[00:26:28] in this last year, one, Margot Rose.

[00:26:34] The reason for that is the Inner Light,

[00:26:38] so she played a main in Picard's wife character

[00:26:43] in the Inner Light in the Star Trek Next Generation episode,

[00:26:46] which I count amongst my favorite next gen episodes.

[00:26:50] But generally not for what other people,

[00:26:52] like everyone loves a relationship between her and Picard

[00:26:55] and yeah, that's great, but there's other reasons

[00:26:58] why I really am drawn to that episode

[00:27:00] and I've had in the back of my mind

[00:27:02] for a really long time that I wanted to write

[00:27:06] tie-in fiction related to that episode.

[00:27:12] And the week after we interviewed her,

[00:27:17] I just was so motivated that I did reach out

[00:27:20] to various folks that got me in touch with the right folks

[00:27:23] that allowed me to pitch a story based on that episode,

[00:27:28] which is gonna be coming out

[00:27:29] in Star Trek Explorers later this year.

[00:27:31] Yes.

[00:27:33] Talking to her kind of just solidified my motivation

[00:27:36] to go for it and I went for it and good things happened.

[00:27:40] So she has to be like one top.

[00:27:43] And then the other one is Bruce Horak.

[00:27:47] Yeah.

[00:27:48] And again, impacting my writing life.

[00:27:52] He's so cool, he's such an interesting dude.

[00:27:55] He plays a Starfleet engineer,

[00:27:58] an awesome Starfleet engineer

[00:27:59] and I have a very huge soft spot for Starfleet engineers.

[00:28:04] But then when it came time to think about audio narration

[00:28:08] for my recent book, Lunar Logic,

[00:28:12] originally my path was to,

[00:28:15] there are services where you can ask people

[00:28:18] to audition and choose.

[00:28:20] And that's how I found the narrator

[00:28:22] for Crazy Foolish Robots.

[00:28:24] And I love her, Zura Johnson, she's wonderful.

[00:28:26] I love her for that.

[00:28:28] But for Lunar Logic, I needed someone new.

[00:28:30] And I had this thought, it would be kind of cool

[00:28:33] if someone that I knew in the Star Trek universe

[00:28:39] would be willing to do this.

[00:28:40] And I thought through the people,

[00:28:42] especially people we've talked to

[00:28:43] and the people that I've had communicated with

[00:28:47] and not only who would I feel comfortable asking

[00:28:52] but who would actually be good for this book.

[00:28:55] And Bruce was the first one on that list.

[00:28:59] I reached out and he agreed.

[00:29:01] And as of right now, last night,

[00:29:03] I was listening to,

[00:29:05] I'm in the listening to kind of sound check,

[00:29:09] quality check the chapters.

[00:29:12] It is coming out so awesome.

[00:29:13] I'm like, I'm not an emotional person

[00:29:15] but I'm practically in tears over this

[00:29:17] when I'm listening to it.

[00:29:18] I got a special sneak peek.

[00:29:21] Let me tell you guys, it's gonna be fantastic.

[00:29:25] It's gonna be fantastic.

[00:29:27] So the fact that we made that connection

[00:29:29] and actually we originally met him

[00:29:30] at Trek Long Island last year.

[00:29:31] The fact that we made that connection,

[00:29:33] it turned into a wonderful podcast interview.

[00:29:35] And then it led to this.

[00:29:37] So that again, that's why that's gotta be.

[00:29:40] But I don't wanna not say anyone else

[00:29:42] because everyone else is amazing too.

[00:29:44] And I love all these people

[00:29:45] and it was so wonderful to talk to them in this forum.

[00:29:48] Right.

[00:29:49] What about a special mention now too?

[00:29:53] I want a special mention everybody.

[00:29:55] Right.

[00:29:56] I want a special mention everybody.

[00:29:59] I mean, John Billingsley's a hoot

[00:30:01] at times.

[00:30:02] He's always fun.

[00:30:03] He's been great.

[00:30:05] God, Robin Curtis, she was lovely.

[00:30:08] Of course Michelle is amazing.

[00:30:10] The Okudas were awesome.

[00:30:11] And I got to sit and talk to Denise a lot

[00:30:13] on the recent Star Trek cruise.

[00:30:15] I love her.

[00:30:16] She's great.

[00:30:17] But even it was just so interesting

[00:30:18] for folks just to really learn what happens off screen

[00:30:22] when we talk to Michael Moore and David Livingstone

[00:30:25] and you know, folks, it's just.

[00:30:26] Yeah.

[00:30:27] And David Livingstone was a dream.

[00:30:29] Okay, so what should I write down?

[00:30:31] He's a name that I see all the time.

[00:30:32] Like, my gosh, we talked to him.

[00:30:34] Yeah.

[00:30:35] Yeah, really?

[00:30:36] As in like, you know, an asterisk,

[00:30:38] which when you search an asterisk means like anything.

[00:30:41] Right.

[00:30:42] All right, so I'm just gonna leave that blank.

[00:30:44] So my, you guys might be a little surprised

[00:30:49] by some of my selections.

[00:30:51] Please, please.

[00:30:52] But I'm gonna say Doug Drexler

[00:30:56] because he was our first behind the scenes

[00:30:59] actual hands-on Star Trek impacted it.

[00:31:03] He had story after story.

[00:31:06] It felt like for the first time

[00:31:08] because we had interviewed Tommy Kraft

[00:31:11] who'd made that film.

[00:31:13] Star Trek Horizon.

[00:31:14] Star Trek Horizon.

[00:31:15] Which was so well done.

[00:31:16] Great independent fan made Star Trek film.

[00:31:19] He was a lot of fun.

[00:31:20] And then we had Jackie Naiman on next

[00:31:24] who was a part of Thanos, The Hands of Fate.

[00:31:26] Her father made that movie.

[00:31:28] Oh yeah, yeah.

[00:31:30] She's just continued that legacy.

[00:31:31] She was great.

[00:31:33] But then we had Doug Drexler on from our beloved Trek.

[00:31:37] And it just felt like real inside information

[00:31:40] and real behind the scenes.

[00:31:42] We weren't watching it on a DVD, like Chris said.

[00:31:45] We were hearing it and he treated us

[00:31:48] like he had known us forever.

[00:31:51] And like we were professional podcasters,

[00:31:56] which we weren't at that point in time at all.

[00:31:59] We were pretty rough around the edges,

[00:32:01] but just a lot of fun.

[00:32:03] And it just was phenomenal that he spent so much time.

[00:32:06] I think, was that a two-part episode?

[00:32:08] I think.

[00:32:09] Yes.

[00:32:10] Yeah.

[00:32:10] He's the guy so not, oh sorry.

[00:32:12] Oh sorry.

[00:32:13] I was just gonna say my mother-in-law listened to that.

[00:32:15] We were driving back from somewhere

[00:32:18] and her and my father-in-law were in the car

[00:32:20] with my family.

[00:32:20] Of course my family was like,

[00:32:21] oh, we gotta listen to this.

[00:32:24] But my mother-in-law, no, I wanna hear it.

[00:32:26] And she was fascinated with Doug.

[00:32:28] Doug, it was a great interview.

[00:32:30] So you had something you were gonna interject.

[00:32:33] I was gonna say, Doug's the guy so nice,

[00:32:35] we interviewed him twice.

[00:32:37] Right.

[00:32:38] And we did that with Rick as well.

[00:32:40] Yeah.

[00:32:41] So it means something special

[00:32:42] when we bring somebody back for another episode

[00:32:46] and they're just, we have more to share,

[00:32:48] more to learn.

[00:32:49] Yeah.

[00:32:50] And he probably put in a good word

[00:32:52] with the Okudos we gather.

[00:32:54] Because before the Okudos came on our show,

[00:32:56] they were having dinner with Doug Drexler

[00:32:58] and several other people

[00:33:00] from behind-the-scenes Trek stuff.

[00:33:02] So Doug Drexler, I just say that was the first time

[00:33:04] I felt like, man, we really have an insider here.

[00:33:07] This is pretty exciting.

[00:33:09] My second favorite is, hey.

[00:33:14] I know what's coming.

[00:33:15] Hey.

[00:33:17] Hey, hey, hey.

[00:33:18] Robin Curtis.

[00:33:19] He was just a lot of fun.

[00:33:22] And I grew up loving Star Trek III, Star Trek IV,

[00:33:27] all the original Star Trek movies.

[00:33:29] But to me it was just so nostalgic.

[00:33:33] It was just so beautiful to have her on the show.

[00:33:35] She is a lovely person, so interesting.

[00:33:37] And she is passionate about her time in Trek.

[00:33:40] And she's just so gracious.

[00:33:43] And it was, I just remember going,

[00:33:46] oh my gosh, she would have been on my wish list.

[00:33:49] If we made up a list when we first started this podcast,

[00:33:52] Robin Curtis would have been maybe even in my top five,

[00:33:57] at least top 10 of guests

[00:33:59] I would have loved to have interviewed.

[00:34:00] And just think, we met her last year

[00:34:03] at Trek Long Island and she treated us

[00:34:06] like we were old friends.

[00:34:09] So when she came on the show,

[00:34:11] we were already old friends.

[00:34:13] Right.

[00:34:13] Yeah, and when I met her in Vegas,

[00:34:14] she was so nice.

[00:34:16] She helped me pick out which I was like,

[00:34:18] I can't decide what photo do I want.

[00:34:20] And she was just friendly

[00:34:21] because she was just chatting with me.

[00:34:22] It wasn't even like, okay, here's your thing.

[00:34:24] Hurry along.

[00:34:25] You get out of here,

[00:34:26] but she's like packing stuff up

[00:34:28] and she was chit chatting for a bit.

[00:34:30] It was just like, this is so cool.

[00:34:33] She does it, yeah, really down to earth.

[00:34:35] Robin Curtis is someone who does the convention

[00:34:38] to her well.

[00:34:39] Like she is great with fans.

[00:34:42] She's just, and it's so natural for her.

[00:34:46] And a lot of the actors and behind the scenes folks are,

[00:34:49] but she just has a passion behind it too.

[00:34:52] I think fans have a special place in their heart for her.

[00:34:55] So my special mention is actually an episode

[00:34:59] I had to miss out on.

[00:35:01] I can't remember if I was traveling or something.

[00:35:04] Guys, I loved your interview with Christopher Abbott.

[00:35:07] Oh, I forgot that you missed that one.

[00:35:10] I loved editing.

[00:35:13] It's always a treat for me actually

[00:35:15] when occasionally I do miss

[00:35:18] because then I get to hear and edit it

[00:35:23] for the first time.

[00:35:23] It's so fresh to me.

[00:35:25] And so it's just, I thought that was one

[00:35:29] of our most delightful episodes in all five seasons

[00:35:32] so far is Christopher Abbott.

[00:35:35] And then I have an extra special mention

[00:35:37] cause hey, guys-

[00:35:40] If I can do it, so can you.

[00:35:42] Right, the host power.

[00:35:43] JD Cullum was fantastic.

[00:35:45] He was amazing.

[00:35:46] He was a really great guest.

[00:35:48] And I'm gonna go back and listen to that episode again.

[00:35:51] I've been meaning to, but I remember being done

[00:35:54] with JD and hearing about his time on set

[00:35:57] in the next generation playing the Dura sisters

[00:36:01] younger brother trying to take over the Klingon Empire.

[00:36:06] He was fast because he talked about stage.

[00:36:08] She talked about music and he really opened up

[00:36:11] about his life and I just, I loved that episode too.

[00:36:14] And I remember when I first approached him

[00:36:17] to come on the show, he was like,

[00:36:20] I was just in one episode or one two part episode

[00:36:23] you guys really wanna talk to me?

[00:36:24] And I was like, yes, absolutely.

[00:36:26] And yeah, that was a great, cause I told him

[00:36:29] that we might wanna spend 10, 20% talking about that

[00:36:32] and then just talk about his other life

[00:36:35] and stuff and everything.

[00:36:36] And it came out so great.

[00:36:38] Yeah, absolutely correct.

[00:36:39] He did and he had that great story

[00:36:41] about Ronald Reagan visiting the set

[00:36:43] and nobody woke him up from his trailer

[00:36:45] to come meet the president.

[00:36:49] Anyway, so that's pretty cool guys.

[00:36:52] I appreciated your thoughts and insights into that.

[00:36:56] So I guess we've this, I kind of really have,

[00:37:02] we answered the question, nevermind.

[00:37:05] I might have to edit that part out

[00:37:07] cause I'm all confused.

[00:37:09] Our next question is what has been

[00:37:13] your favorite movie episode and favorite series episodes

[00:37:18] that we've covered?

[00:37:21] So let's let Chris go first.

[00:37:24] Are you ready to answer this Chris?

[00:37:26] I think so.

[00:37:27] You know what, come around because I'm trying

[00:37:29] to think of the series.

[00:37:29] I got my favorite movie.

[00:37:31] Okay. Got you.

[00:37:32] Steve, I know you've got it written down already.

[00:37:35] I'm ready to go.

[00:37:36] Go ahead.

[00:37:39] It might've been without a doubt

[00:37:41] the five worst movies of all time.

[00:37:46] And just to get ready for it,

[00:37:48] today I was invited to see the christening

[00:37:52] or the revealing of a new hydrogen car from Honda,

[00:37:56] new CRV.

[00:37:57] So I had an hour's drive back and forth

[00:37:59] to the Honda Tech Center.

[00:38:01] So what did I listen to?

[00:38:03] Parts one and two of our worst episode

[00:38:06] about worst movies of all time.

[00:38:09] And it's still hilarious.

[00:38:12] We had so much fun ripping those movies a new one.

[00:38:16] It was glorious and we enjoyed it.

[00:38:20] I mean, literally we had so much fun doing it

[00:38:23] because we didn't have to be nice.

[00:38:26] We could be honest and that was really good.

[00:38:30] And then for TV series,

[00:38:32] it has our discussion about season two

[00:38:35] of strange new worlds.

[00:38:37] We had so much to talk about in that particular season

[00:38:42] that I truly enjoyed our discussion about that.

[00:38:45] And it also led us to interview Davy Perez,

[00:38:50] a writer of four episodes, two from season two.

[00:38:54] And we got his insight into how they made the movie,

[00:38:57] excuse me, how they made the TV series

[00:38:59] that particular season.

[00:39:00] And it's still, I look back and going,

[00:39:02] we had truly enjoyable time talking about that series.

[00:39:06] So yeah, that's it for me.

[00:39:08] So the reason I said, hey,

[00:39:09] was because you took my series answer.

[00:39:12] Oh, well then great minds think alike,

[00:39:15] Adina, nanana.

[00:39:17] Although probably for a different,

[00:39:19] similar but different reason.

[00:39:21] I really liked the strange new world season two recap

[00:39:23] because it forced me to,

[00:39:25] cause through strange new world season two,

[00:39:28] I kind of was, especially the first few episodes,

[00:39:30] I was kind of like eh, eh.

[00:39:32] But then when I rewatched all season one

[00:39:35] and into season two to prepare for that,

[00:39:37] that's when it all kind of like clicked and came together.

[00:39:39] And I think in that episode, I talk about how,

[00:39:41] wait a second, we don't have two 10 episode seasons,

[00:39:44] we have one 20 episode season.

[00:39:46] And in that light and the fact that my brain,

[00:39:49] I had that like light bulb moment.

[00:39:52] I don't get those light bulb moments very often

[00:39:54] when I watch stuff.

[00:39:55] So that's my reason for that one.

[00:39:58] Very good.

[00:39:59] And movie, what's your fate?

[00:40:01] I don't know.

[00:40:02] So do you want me to go?

[00:40:03] Come on.

[00:40:04] So you can go, you can go.

[00:40:06] So I think-

[00:40:06] Oh, there's too many.

[00:40:07] Because as I always tell Dill,

[00:40:09] I love watching movies with her.

[00:40:11] If we watch a movie that we like,

[00:40:13] we always have a lot of fun.

[00:40:15] But if we watch a movie that we hate,

[00:40:16] we have even more fun.

[00:40:18] So I think my favorite, most iconic,

[00:40:21] and I think we're at the point now

[00:40:23] where we can say iconic for us

[00:40:25] because now we always come back to it,

[00:40:27] but moonfall.

[00:40:28] Like-

[00:40:29] All right.

[00:40:30] One of the best, the fact that now,

[00:40:32] anytime you watch a movie we're like,

[00:40:33] and if we don't like it,

[00:40:34] especially if we don't like it,

[00:40:36] we're like, is this worse than moonfall?

[00:40:38] The fact that we can compare it to that,

[00:40:40] I think is great.

[00:40:40] And now it's in our canon that,

[00:40:42] oh yeah, what episode did the moon fall?

[00:40:44] Like you can go back and be like, oh yeah.

[00:40:46] All of that stuff started in that episode.

[00:40:49] And then for TV series,

[00:40:51] it'd have to say Picard season three

[00:40:52] just because-

[00:40:53] Oh, very good.

[00:40:54] Yeah.

[00:40:55] We were just all like, the Enterprise D reveal.

[00:40:57] We're all there to be able to really just talk

[00:41:01] about how awesome that was.

[00:41:02] So yeah, it's a moonfall favorite movie,

[00:41:04] even though I don't recommend it.

[00:41:06] And Picard season three,

[00:41:09] because I love that series.

[00:41:10] Can I add one thing, Chris?

[00:41:12] Say it.

[00:41:14] Toto's Africa haunts me.

[00:41:19] I love it.

[00:41:19] Every time I'm in the car and they play that song,

[00:41:22] we have a little laugh because-

[00:41:24] Yeah.

[00:41:24] Down in Africa.

[00:41:27] What about-

[00:41:27] That's all I know.

[00:41:28] The version of Africa.

[00:41:29] Oh, you know, I've got to ask you that.

[00:41:31] That comes up in my playlist.

[00:41:33] And that as of this past weekend

[00:41:34] was my five and a half year old's favorite song.

[00:41:36] I listened to it like that.

[00:41:37] Oh, wow.

[00:41:38] Oh, guys.

[00:41:39] That's cool.

[00:41:40] Because Africa is on rotation now, heavy rotation.

[00:41:42] Every time I hear it, I'm like, oh, yep.

[00:41:44] I almost want to just take a screenshot

[00:41:46] and be like, or a screen grab and be like,

[00:41:48] hey, look Steve, I'm listening to Africa again.

[00:41:52] Brian.

[00:41:54] All right.

[00:41:56] This is the hardest question

[00:41:57] if you asked me that I came up with.

[00:41:58] Okay.

[00:42:00] This series, Andor.

[00:42:04] Oh yeah.

[00:42:05] Talking about Andor.

[00:42:05] Yeah, that was fun.

[00:42:06] I think that is one of the finest

[00:42:08] science fiction series in a long time.

[00:42:11] And I can't wait for season two.

[00:42:13] Oh yeah.

[00:42:14] And I just, that was such a riveting series,

[00:42:18] season one that I just, it was a great,

[00:42:20] I felt like that was a really fun episode.

[00:42:23] As far as movies go, I'm really torn

[00:42:25] because we covered Galaxy Quest.

[00:42:27] That was a lot of fun.

[00:42:29] We did some of my favorite,

[00:42:30] we kind of covered Lord of the Rings,

[00:42:32] generally speaking, loved that.

[00:42:36] But I also loved our early first season discussion

[00:42:39] of Forbidden Planet.

[00:42:41] Yeah, that was wonderful.

[00:42:43] And so those are kind of at the top of my list

[00:42:46] as far as films we've talked about and series.

[00:42:50] Although I got to say guys,

[00:42:51] a special mention again, Jamie Anderson,

[00:42:55] fantastic interview talking about his dad's legacy.

[00:42:59] And my kids still ask to watch that Thunderbird show,

[00:43:05] the old one, the original one,

[00:43:07] every now and then on Saturday morning.

[00:43:09] I remember you saying to him,

[00:43:11] the kids want to watch the puppet show.

[00:43:14] And Jamie is our most long distance interviewee.

[00:43:19] We had to coordinate on a Saturday

[00:43:24] between three major time zones to be able to do it.

[00:43:29] And yes, to be able to talk to the son

[00:43:33] of one of my personal heroes, Jerry Anderson,

[00:43:37] get his insight that was, yeah,

[00:43:39] I appreciate what you said there, Brian.

[00:43:40] Really fun episode.

[00:43:41] Very good.

[00:43:42] So now to just make it even harder,

[00:43:44] what is your favorite in-between season content

[00:43:48] we've done?

[00:43:49] Because we love doing something a little bit different

[00:43:51] for our in-between season.

[00:43:53] Oftentimes that's, it usually ends up being

[00:43:57] just a couple of weeks.

[00:43:58] We might shoot some shorter things

[00:44:01] that we can maybe post a couple times each week.

[00:44:04] But what is your favorite that we've done?

[00:44:07] And let's let Adina go first.

[00:44:09] And if you don't say what I think you're gonna say,

[00:44:13] shame on you.

[00:44:15] Well there's a tie, there's a tie.

[00:44:18] And I'll explain the tie.

[00:44:19] Of course I love when we had my son Frank on.

[00:44:23] What does Frank think?

[00:44:25] Yeah, the tie though with that is

[00:44:28] what we did our last season when we wrote our stories,

[00:44:30] our flash-fishing stories.

[00:44:32] The fact that that now has turned into

[00:44:34] what I write, I'm continuing that storyline

[00:44:37] or that character in my newsletter every other week.

[00:44:40] And so I think I have a theme of

[00:44:42] my favorites tend to be the things

[00:44:45] that then there's follow up from it.

[00:44:47] It wasn't just the one thing and done.

[00:44:49] It turned into something else.

[00:44:52] Yeah, and I'm gonna go next too

[00:44:55] because I think for me it was last seasons

[00:44:57] with the writing because that really sparked me

[00:45:00] writing an original sci-fi story, Planet Zero.

[00:45:03] And it just really kind of lit the fire for me.

[00:45:08] Like hey, okay that was an incredible exercise

[00:45:11] for one thing to write a thousand words or less

[00:45:14] with four things we all had to include

[00:45:16] in our story somehow.

[00:45:19] It really helped me think about writing in a different way

[00:45:23] and sparked a couple things too out of that.

[00:45:25] So it's progressed me in my writing.

[00:45:29] I'd already written a book,

[00:45:30] but to think about short story

[00:45:32] and what that could be was just fascinating.

[00:45:36] And you know, Frank was pretty cool too.

[00:45:38] Darn his long curly hair though.

[00:45:41] Well his hair is like six inches longer

[00:45:43] than it was when we recorded that.

[00:45:45] Wow.

[00:45:47] And he's probably like eight inches taller too

[00:45:50] when we then from when we recorded that.

[00:45:51] Not eight inches, but definitely a little bit taller yes.

[00:45:54] Okay.

[00:45:55] But yeah so for me hands down that was a favorite.

[00:45:59] The trivia was fun too.

[00:46:02] I think that was that our first one

[00:46:03] I think we did.

[00:46:04] I think it might have been our first one.

[00:46:05] Yeah.

[00:46:06] No Frank was first.

[00:46:07] Was Frank first?

[00:46:08] I think trivia was first.

[00:46:10] Adina's looking it up right now.

[00:46:12] Leading no, no, no, no, no first

[00:46:15] was we did just some short something, something.

[00:46:19] Frank was in between season two and three

[00:46:21] and then trivia was in between

[00:46:23] games were in between season three and four

[00:46:24] leading up to Trek Long Island.

[00:46:26] Now our first in-between season content

[00:46:28] I think was just some short just,

[00:46:30] no, no we posed questions to each other

[00:46:32] and just had short answers.

[00:46:33] Right, right.

[00:46:35] I don't remember that.

[00:46:37] I'm gonna have to go back and do not remember that.

[00:46:39] Memories.

[00:46:41] It's been a long two years yeah.

[00:46:43] It's been a what?

[00:46:44] No it's been, I mean.

[00:46:46] It's great but no,

[00:46:48] we've done a lot in two years is what I meant.

[00:46:50] We've done a lot.

[00:46:52] Yes we packed a lot in that's what I meant.

[00:46:54] What about you Chris?

[00:46:56] Well first I was gonna say

[00:46:58] cause you said it's been a long.

[00:46:59] It's been a long time.

[00:47:01] Thank you.

[00:47:02] Getting from there to here.

[00:47:04] Thank you.

[00:47:05] That's why I love you guys so much.

[00:47:06] What are you a bass all of a sudden?

[00:47:07] Steve's all of a sudden a bass singer.

[00:47:09] He's been a baritone this whole time

[00:47:11] and now he's a bass singer.

[00:47:12] I can do Elves if you want.

[00:47:15] Ring of fire.

[00:47:16] That's not Elves right?

[00:47:17] That's not a cash ring of fire.

[00:47:21] Johnny Cash.

[00:47:22] Yeah.

[00:47:23] They just seem to have the same flavor.

[00:47:25] There's something about the two of them.

[00:47:28] But I'll say.

[00:47:29] Chris you just cracked me out man.

[00:47:31] I'm glad.

[00:47:32] So yeah I was having the same thing as Adina

[00:47:35] because both the creative writing

[00:47:39] and talking to Frank were like it's such a tie.

[00:47:42] I think the creative writing only because one

[00:47:44] it was a really fun exercise to flex my writing muscles

[00:47:50] and it like really forces you to try and be concise

[00:47:56] while still telling hopefully complete story.

[00:47:58] And then similar to Adina

[00:48:00] it's not that like anything happened after that story

[00:48:03] that I'm gonna continue

[00:48:04] but I was thinking about the next one

[00:48:06] like shortly after we wrote I'm like okay

[00:48:09] I'm gonna what am I gonna do for the next one?

[00:48:12] And that inspired an idea that I think I

[00:48:14] that I'm very happy with

[00:48:16] that I'm gonna try and flesh out

[00:48:17] in our next short story assignment

[00:48:20] but also in my film school class

[00:48:23] where we have to write a pilot episode to a TV show.

[00:48:26] So I'm looking forward to that but it was a lot of fun.

[00:48:29] Cool.

[00:48:30] Steve have you answered?

[00:48:32] Not yet.

[00:48:34] I'm gonna say without a doubt as you've all said

[00:48:38] it's our short story episode

[00:48:41] of writing a thousand word short story

[00:48:45] based on four extremely random words or phrases

[00:48:50] and it got me to write I think from my feel

[00:48:55] the best thing ever wrote

[00:48:56] and it also got me a chance to create two new friends

[00:49:00] Ed Jones and his beloved truck El Diablo.

[00:49:04] And I just remember when we were all done

[00:49:07] and I read it and Chris and Brian you both said

[00:49:12] I wanna know more about these guys.

[00:49:13] Yeah I need to know the backstory.

[00:49:14] That's not enough.

[00:49:15] I need more yeah.

[00:49:16] And so it forced me it not forced me

[00:49:18] it got me to write triple the length

[00:49:22] and the background story of who they are

[00:49:24] which if whenever you guys have a chance

[00:49:27] to have a chance to read it

[00:49:28] let me know what you think.

[00:49:30] But it got me they became very special friends

[00:49:34] and wherever I went I would see Ed Jones

[00:49:36] like we were in Hawaii and there was a guy prospecting

[00:49:39] and there was Ed Jones looking for that.

[00:49:40] And if I see an old dump truck there goes El Diablo

[00:49:44] they are you gave me a chance to write something

[00:49:47] that was really special and it was a great

[00:49:49] and I look forward to our next endeavor in this as well.

[00:49:53] I'm sorry I have to say just because of thinking

[00:49:56] about like how Steve is like

[00:49:58] oh this guy reminded me of Ed Jones

[00:50:01] this guy that you met

[00:50:02] and this is a separate story that's not sci-fi

[00:50:05] it's more crime related

[00:50:07] but I want to include a character based on Steve's

[00:50:11] I can't even say it Steve Schwartz from New York

[00:50:14] Mr. Schwartz from New York

[00:50:16] and every time I think about it

[00:50:19] and every time I think about it

[00:50:20] I burst out laughing just like now

[00:50:21] it's the Schwartz from New York

[00:50:22] yeah it is the Schwartz

[00:50:23] and I'm hoping to have him become

[00:50:24] a reoccurring character in this crime story

[00:50:26] that I want to write eventually

[00:50:29] but I just I love it I just I had to bring that up

[00:50:32] thank you that's very kind.

[00:50:34] Yeah great stories all around that was fun

[00:50:38] to post those and we got some good reaction too

[00:50:42] from those stories too

[00:50:43] good listener interaction on those

[00:50:47] so our next question in this one

[00:50:50] is kind of more ominous and philosophical

[00:50:54] in a way or in theory because this is a what if question

[00:50:58] if you could interview anyone at all

[00:51:00] in the world of science fiction

[00:51:02] for season six and beyond

[00:51:04] so it may not be season

[00:51:05] could be season seven eight nine 10 11 12

[00:51:07] who would it be

[00:51:09] and it's okay to have more than one answer

[00:51:12] oh okay it opens up quite a bit

[00:51:15] who's who do you want to go first Chris?

[00:51:18] I'm still thinking because I've got a few people

[00:51:22] so my so I want to interview anybody

[00:51:26] I want to talk to everybody

[00:51:27] it's just been even people that I don't necessarily know

[00:51:31] I want to talk to

[00:51:33] I feel like we get great conversations with anyone

[00:51:35] so I want to talk to everybody

[00:51:37] I want to talk to some of the main actors

[00:51:39] I also want to talk to people

[00:51:40] who are like in one episode again

[00:51:42] or who were behind the scenes doing right

[00:51:44] but so I think my official answer to the question

[00:51:48] then I'm gonna because you said

[00:51:49] if you could do anybody who would you do

[00:51:52] and I think I want to say

[00:51:54] I would have loved to talk to Leonard Nimoy

[00:51:59] I would have loved to talk to DeFarce Kelly

[00:52:02] so people who I can't possibly talk to

[00:52:04] so I can't give anything away

[00:52:06] about who we may even be courting right now

[00:52:10] get on the show so that's my answer

[00:52:12] folks like you know Dee Kelly and Leonard Nimoy

[00:52:15] okay Steve how about you sir?

[00:52:19] first off I will say that

[00:52:21] we are going to be interviewing someone next season

[00:52:23] Adina's lined up I'm not gonna say who

[00:52:25] I won't say who

[00:52:26] but I am looking forward to interviewing that person

[00:52:30] so one's already been checked off the list

[00:52:32] that's a reality

[00:52:33] but who I'd really love to interview?

[00:52:36] Mark Hamill

[00:52:37] that would be so much fun

[00:52:38] who was there at the beginning of Star Wars

[00:52:42] he has a true joy about himself

[00:52:45] he does yeah

[00:52:45] he's a funny guy

[00:52:47] and I think he would have the most fun

[00:52:51] chatting with the big sci-fi podcast

[00:52:53] okay so if anyone out there is listening

[00:52:56] and has any in with Mark Hamill

[00:52:59] please send him our way

[00:53:01] yes

[00:53:02] he would be just again very hard

[00:53:04] but we've been so lucky

[00:53:07] because Star Trek people are so attainable

[00:53:10] and accessible

[00:53:12] but we who Star Wars always seems to be

[00:53:16] like the difficult one

[00:53:18] but he would be the king

[00:53:19] he would be the king

[00:53:20] so okay I'm done

[00:53:22] yeah so I have a couple

[00:53:24] one probably very obvious

[00:53:27] the second one very different

[00:53:29] so the first one

[00:53:31] Robert Picardo for me

[00:53:33] as I'm obsessed with the doctor

[00:53:35] I love him to death

[00:53:36] and Robert Picardo just seems like

[00:53:38] he's like a genuinely fun guy to be around

[00:53:41] and he seems like he really

[00:53:43] he likes like

[00:53:44] I think most of the actors have come around

[00:53:47] to appreciate in the fandom

[00:53:48] but I felt like Robert Picardo

[00:53:49] has always appreciated it

[00:53:51] so Robert Picardo for one

[00:53:53] and then someone I'm thinking about

[00:53:54] very recently about Mike

[00:53:55] he would be a lot of fun

[00:53:57] there's a gentleman named Gary Witta

[00:53:59] and I know Gary Witta

[00:54:00] because he's on the show called

[00:54:01] Kind of Funny

[00:54:02] which I listen to all the time

[00:54:03] but his big claim to fame

[00:54:05] well actually it's two claims to fame

[00:54:06] one he wrote the screenplay

[00:54:09] for the book of Eli

[00:54:10] but for us specifically

[00:54:11] he wrote the screenplay for Rogue One

[00:54:16] oh okay

[00:54:17] it's just like he's the best

[00:54:18] like to me he would be so cool

[00:54:20] because one he wrote a Star Wars movie

[00:54:22] which is incredible

[00:54:23] he writes for Hollywood movies

[00:54:26] from time to time

[00:54:28] but yet he primarily podcasts

[00:54:30] he's a game journalist

[00:54:31] he has an Xbox show

[00:54:33] that he does with the Kind of Funny crew

[00:54:35] and it's like to me

[00:54:36] that's what I would aspire to do

[00:54:37] is like have some Hollywood ties

[00:54:40] maybe do a film

[00:54:41] write for a film

[00:54:43] and then be able to podcast all day

[00:54:45] so he just seems like someone

[00:54:46] that'd be really fun

[00:54:47] and he's very British

[00:54:49] in that his humor

[00:54:50] if you don't understand it

[00:54:52] we'll think he's being rude

[00:54:53] but it's all just part of

[00:54:55] the way he jokes around

[00:54:57] so he'd be fun

[00:54:57] and I think he's more obtainable

[00:54:59] because he does podcasts

[00:55:00] all the time anyways

[00:55:01] and he is a Star Wars person

[00:55:03] and he's a Star Wars

[00:55:04] and he wrote

[00:55:05] and we bring someone

[00:55:06] and who wrote

[00:55:07] I think a lot of us agree

[00:55:09] the best Star Wars movie

[00:55:10] yes

[00:55:11] amen

[00:55:12] I think it's up

[00:55:13] I don't think it's the best ever

[00:55:14] but I mean

[00:55:15] it's pretty cool

[00:55:17] like I loved it

[00:55:19] so yeah he'd be a lot of fun

[00:55:20] I'll have to edit that last statement

[00:55:22] out of this episode Chris

[00:55:23] I'm just kidding

[00:55:24] I'm just kidding

[00:55:25] I'm good

[00:55:26] I'm out of range

[00:55:27] I am shocked and dismayed

[00:55:28] what do people say when they're upset

[00:55:30] I'm dismayed

[00:55:31] dismayed

[00:55:32] yes

[00:55:34] okay

[00:55:34] I'm kidding

[00:55:35] we've already had that conversation

[00:55:37] we're all good

[00:55:38] yeah

[00:55:40] Adina did you go?

[00:55:41] you did

[00:55:42] is it my turn?

[00:55:43] yes

[00:55:44] it is your turn

[00:55:45] oh little omi

[00:55:46] the hostess with the mostess

[00:55:50] I got

[00:55:51] you guys might be surprised

[00:55:52] by my first answer here

[00:55:54] but I would just

[00:55:57] think it was fantastic

[00:55:58] if we could interview

[00:56:00] Nana Visitor

[00:56:01] yes

[00:56:02] she is so amazing

[00:56:05] her character was

[00:56:06] ahead of its time for television

[00:56:09] mm-hmm

[00:56:10] way ahead of it

[00:56:11] and doesn't get nearly enough credit

[00:56:13] for how strong they made her

[00:56:17] and how they developed her character

[00:56:19] and it was just ahead of its time

[00:56:21] on television folks

[00:56:23] if you're a Star Trek fan

[00:56:25] and you're still one of those few people

[00:56:27] that don't want to watch Steve Space Nine

[00:56:29] because you think it was crap

[00:56:31] from the first season

[00:56:33] you're missing out

[00:56:34] on one of the most amazing experiences

[00:56:37] of one of the best series

[00:56:38] many people are coming around

[00:56:40] to say it's the best

[00:56:42] and so go back watch it

[00:56:45] and in particular

[00:56:46] let your daughters watch it with you

[00:56:48] if you're a parent

[00:56:50] and watch

[00:56:51] Keira Near East

[00:56:52] and her development

[00:56:53] in Nana Visitor's portrayal

[00:56:55] just fantastic

[00:56:56] and she's just an inspirational gal too

[00:56:58] she just really

[00:56:59] and I have to say

[00:57:00] that whole show for women characters

[00:57:02] I mean Terry Farrell's Dax

[00:57:04] so incredible

[00:57:05] you've got a scientist scientist

[00:57:07] not like a possible

[00:57:08] but like a real scientist

[00:57:10] portrayed by a female too

[00:57:12] again yes

[00:57:13] that show was amazing

[00:57:15] for those reasons

[00:57:16] well I can say

[00:57:18] that today in Korea

[00:57:20] or yesterday now in Korea

[00:57:22] was opening day for baseball

[00:57:24] so last night

[00:57:26] I had my wife Elaine and I

[00:57:27] we watched Take Me Out to the Holodeck

[00:57:30] in honor of the start of baseball season

[00:57:33] and that that episode

[00:57:35] has so much heart

[00:57:36] it's really just one of those special ones

[00:57:39] oh great

[00:57:39] sorry did you say in Korea

[00:57:40] where did you say

[00:57:41] yeah the Dodgers are playing the Padres

[00:57:44] the San Diego Padres

[00:57:46] in Korea in South Korea

[00:57:48] opening day of baseball

[00:57:49] yeah

[00:57:50] I wow that that's mind blowing to me

[00:57:52] trying to make baseball

[00:57:53] even more international

[00:57:55] so that's pretty cool

[00:57:56] but yes

[00:57:56] Hollow Suite episode

[00:57:58] oh fantastic

[00:57:59] really good

[00:58:01] and I've got two special mentions

[00:58:04] three I'm sorry

[00:58:05] Isaac Asimov

[00:58:07] oh yeah

[00:58:08] and Arthur C. Clarke

[00:58:09] I would love to

[00:58:10] those two guys

[00:58:11] okay

[00:58:12] thanks Adina for diminishing the import of my

[00:58:15] yeah that's going there

[00:58:16] appreciate that

[00:58:17] no no no no meaning like

[00:58:19] those are excellent

[00:58:21] sorry by

[00:58:22] okay okay

[00:58:23] did you have Arthur C. Clarke

[00:58:24] like of course we all would have chosen them

[00:58:26] I get it

[00:58:27] real original

[00:58:27] Asimov would have fit in perfectly with us

[00:58:29] because he has a great sense of humor

[00:58:31] so yes

[00:58:32] so my other real one

[00:58:33] um guys

[00:58:34] I think Katie Sakoff

[00:58:36] would be fantastic to interview

[00:58:38] yeah she's just been all over the place

[00:58:39] in sci-fi and other stuff

[00:58:42] and so

[00:58:43] it's Katie if you're listening

[00:58:46] please check us out

[00:58:47] have your people reach out to ours

[00:58:49] okay so

[00:58:50] guys

[00:58:51] last but not least

[00:58:53] what are you looking forward to

[00:58:55] in season six of the

[00:58:56] Big Sci-Fi podcast

[00:58:59] and this could be anything

[00:59:00] this isn't just around who our guests might be

[00:59:04] but

[00:59:04] what are you looking forward to

[00:59:05] do you have any dreams

[00:59:06] any hopes for

[00:59:08] season six of the

[00:59:09] Big Sci-Fi podcast

[00:59:11] any hopes

[00:59:12] so

[00:59:13] in the middle of season six

[00:59:15] is when we're all gonna be at

[00:59:16] Trek Long Island

[00:59:17] so of course I am looking forward to that

[00:59:19] looking forward to seeing you guys again in person

[00:59:21] and doing all that

[00:59:23] and

[00:59:24] I guess my other thing

[00:59:26] you know we talked a little bit about this

[00:59:27] maybe two seasons ago

[00:59:29] but we haven't

[00:59:30] we haven't implemented the plan yet

[00:59:32] but I want to do assignment doctor who

[00:59:34] I'm kind of looking forward

[00:59:35] yes

[00:59:36] yes

[00:59:37] just thinking about that

[00:59:38] last night

[00:59:40] if I'm gonna make us all watch something like

[00:59:43] more

[00:59:44] you know like bigger not just like one movie or whatever

[00:59:46] I really really think

[00:59:48] and I want to get us all on board

[00:59:49] maybe for season six

[00:59:51] all should watch for all mankind

[00:59:53] mm-hmm right

[00:59:54] okay

[00:59:55] I gotta get Apple TV then

[00:59:58] yeah we're about two thirds of the way through it

[01:00:00] totally worth it

[01:00:01] it is amazing

[01:00:04] okay

[01:00:05] it's amazing

[01:00:06] okay

[01:00:07] I'm looking forward to those possibilities with you guys

[01:00:10] yes

[01:00:11] and Trek Long Island

[01:00:12] all right

[01:00:13] as my father would always say

[01:00:16] there's always possibilities

[01:00:19] who ever saw that

[01:00:20] father would say that?

[01:00:21] Spock?

[01:00:22] I don't know no

[01:00:23] was Spock what he said?

[01:00:24] Spock said that

[01:00:25] it's Kirk that says it right?

[01:00:27] I always like to think there's

[01:00:28] he says that Spock said it

[01:00:29] but I think he said

[01:00:30] I think he

[01:00:31] possibilities yeah

[01:00:32] you're right Chris

[01:00:34] so who goes next?

[01:00:35] you do

[01:00:36] no I'll go for

[01:00:37] I'll go next

[01:00:38] because

[01:00:39] I'm gonna do the ending

[01:00:42] so I'll let you guys talk for a little while after I talk here

[01:00:44] okay all right

[01:00:46] I am super psyched about Trek Long Island

[01:00:48] it's gonna be fantastic

[01:00:50] phenomenal

[01:00:51] I believe guys we're gonna get more guests

[01:00:53] future guests from our time at Trek Long Island

[01:00:56] maybe even some surprises

[01:00:58] we're gonna develop new friendships and connections

[01:01:01] and

[01:01:03] honestly that's what I'm looking forward to

[01:01:05] is

[01:01:07] who are we gonna meet next?

[01:01:09] who's gonna call us next?

[01:01:11] because we are getting a few folks starting to email us

[01:01:13] saying hey we love the podcast

[01:01:15] would love to come on

[01:01:16] and

[01:01:17] what those connections mean for our future

[01:01:21] because we meet one friend

[01:01:22] introduces us to another friend

[01:01:24] or says hey I was on the big sci-fi

[01:01:25] you should check it out

[01:01:27] they're great you know

[01:01:28] don't hesitate if they call

[01:01:30] I'm just really interested in the mystery of

[01:01:33] who we're gonna meet

[01:01:35] who's gonna connect with us

[01:01:37] and we're gonna connect with them

[01:01:38] and how that connection is gonna be felt by our listeners too

[01:01:42] because that's really what I'm so proud of this podcast for guys

[01:01:46] our listeners feel like they're a part of it

[01:01:49] like they're connected with us

[01:01:51] and our guests

[01:01:52] and so that's what I'm excited about

[01:01:55] Chris you wanna go next?

[01:01:56] yeah so similar vein in terms of

[01:01:58] I'm really excited about our

[01:02:00] just to see who we meet

[01:02:01] the connections

[01:02:02] I'm looking forward to Trek Long Island

[01:02:05] I think that's gonna be amazing as usual

[01:02:07] and then I'm also in the very short term

[01:02:10] I'm looking forward to us talking about Discovery Season 5

[01:02:13] because

[01:02:14] yes

[01:02:15] some of what I've heard about

[01:02:16] from IGN specifically

[01:02:18] who I trust the guys that

[01:02:20] review all the Star Trek stuff

[01:02:21] Scott Kallora there

[01:02:22] and I usually see eye to eye on Trek with him

[01:02:26] and he gave the first five episodes in eight

[01:02:29] so I'm like

[01:02:30] it seems like this is a good possibility

[01:02:32] that they will land

[01:02:33] they'll stick the landing

[01:02:34] and they will finally

[01:02:36] give

[01:02:37] make Discovery

[01:02:39] like allow it to meet its full potential

[01:02:41] so I'm really hoping

[01:02:42] I'm looking forward to reviewing it

[01:02:43] I'm really hoping that

[01:02:45] we're like you know what

[01:02:46] they nailed it

[01:02:47] they finally did it with Discovery

[01:02:49] I hope so

[01:02:51] fingers crossed

[01:02:52] Steve

[01:02:53] alright

[01:02:54] oh my

[01:02:56] to quote George Takei

[01:02:58] the next great interviewee

[01:03:01] that we're gonna do

[01:03:02] that would be so cool

[01:03:03] but since we are

[01:03:05] the big sci-fi podcast

[01:03:07] we are not pigeonholed

[01:03:09] into one series

[01:03:10] one genre

[01:03:11] or one style of science fiction

[01:03:14] we have over

[01:03:15] believe it or not kids

[01:03:16] a hundred and twenty years

[01:03:19] of science fiction movies to talk about

[01:03:22] from George Millay's 1902 film

[01:03:25] A Trip to the Moon

[01:03:27] to something we just recently did

[01:03:29] Spaceman from 2024

[01:03:31] and everything in between

[01:03:33] and then for TV

[01:03:35] we have from 1949

[01:03:37] we can talk about Captain Video

[01:03:39] and his video rangers

[01:03:41] or right up to Strange New Worlds

[01:03:44] we have over 70 years

[01:03:47] of TV series to talk about

[01:03:49] so kids

[01:03:50] and I can call you kids

[01:03:52] we will never run out of topics to talk about

[01:03:55] and I look forward to meeting up with you again

[01:03:57] for Trek on Island

[01:03:58] I do look forward to that for next season

[01:04:01] and again

[01:04:02] every Wednesday of recording with you folks

[01:04:05] and to paraphrase our beloved Spock

[01:04:08] you have been

[01:04:10] and always shall be

[01:04:12] my friends

[01:04:13] aww

[01:04:14] don't don't

[01:04:16] I feel like I'm gonna tear up

[01:04:18] Steve is tearing up

[01:04:20] man

[01:04:21] that's awesome brother

[01:04:22] you guys are my friends

[01:04:23] thank you

[01:04:24] can I say

[01:04:25] something hopefully

[01:04:26] because now I'm gonna start tearing up

[01:04:28] but back to George Takei for a second

[01:04:31] because

[01:04:32] Dill has been rewatching Big Bang Theory

[01:04:35] and

[01:04:36] I really

[01:04:37] I love that when he did a cameo

[01:04:39] as himself

[01:04:40] he was in the search for Spock

[01:04:43] like clothing

[01:04:44] which I thought

[01:04:45] whoever was in charge of that was great

[01:04:47] because it's like we're not gonna make him

[01:04:48] wear the iconic uniform

[01:04:49] we're gonna do a deep cut

[01:04:51] of his like super cool leather jacket

[01:04:53] his casual

[01:04:54] I'm out of San Francisco right now

[01:04:56] fantastic

[01:04:57] that's all

[01:04:58] and he left him with the tab

[01:05:00] yep

[01:05:01] which is I think where that expression

[01:05:04] oh my

[01:05:05] came from

[01:05:06] in that episode

[01:05:10] well kids

[01:05:12] there you have it

[01:05:14] the 100th episode is now drawing to a close

[01:05:18] we can hardly believe that over two years ago

[01:05:21] this ragtag group of sci-fi lovers

[01:05:23] would form a band we call

[01:05:25] The Big Sci-Fi Podcast

[01:05:27] what a journey it's been

[01:05:28] and we've all been surprised by the twists and turns

[01:05:31] the opportunities we've had to talk to some of the most fascinating people

[01:05:35] on the planet

[01:05:37] and to talk about the wide world of science fiction

[01:05:40] we hope that you have been entertained

[01:05:42] and engaged in learning about this incredible genre of literature, film, and television

[01:05:48] we are having all the fun in the world making these episodes

[01:05:51] and plan on continuing to do so until we run out of material

[01:05:55] which will be like never

[01:05:57] I told you Steve

[01:05:58] I told you

[01:05:59] thank you Steve for reminding

[01:06:03] we hope you plan on continuing to trek with us

[01:06:06] into the next season and beyond

[01:06:10] stay tuned for some great in-between season content

[01:06:13] and the debut episode

[01:06:15] and the debut episode of season 6

[01:06:17] in April

[01:06:18] don't forget to sign up for Trek Long Island

[01:06:20] which runs May 31st through June 2nd

[01:06:23] they've got a great line-up of Trek guests, vendors, and podcasts

[01:06:27] including the Trek Geeks, Sci-Fi Sisters

[01:06:29] Matthew Kaplowitz from Trek Untold, Uncle Jim from Trek Talking

[01:06:34] he's fun

[01:06:35] and more

[01:06:37] so we say to you guys, our listeners, our loyal listeners

[01:06:41] we love you

[01:06:42] we thank you

[01:06:43] to my fellow co-hosts

[01:06:45] I love you guys
