William Smith

Episode 159: In the Pale Moonlight

HE CAN LIVE WITH IT

It is a hour of Star Trek that is filled with compromise after disastrous compromise, and hanging in the balance is Benjamin Sisko’s morality and self respect.

Starfleet is losing the war against the Dominion and they need the Romulans in the fight, and Sisko does what he never expected he’d have to.

We’ll look at this incredible Deep Space Nine episode and discuss how Sisko has the weight of the Alpha Quadrant on his shoulders and humanity hangs in the balance.

This episode of Trek Geeks is no FAAAAAAAAAAKE and we hope you’ll join us!

Episode 157: Take Me Out to the Holosuite

WORLD SERIES WEEK!

It’s the Great American Pastime in Space!

One of Deep Space Nine’s most memorable outings has to be the seventh season episode, “Take Me Out to the Holosuite.” Sisko accepts the challenge of a Vulcan nemesis in his favorite sport, putting the honor of the DS9 senior staff on the line!

It’s an episode filled with humor and heart and perfect to discuss during this time of year when the baseball season comes to a close with the World Series.

We’ll talk about what makes this episode so classic and about the one, true obsession of Benjamin Sisko.

This episode is recorded live at Northeast Trek Con in Albany, New York.

Episode 156: Bride of Chaotica!

SPACEMAN FIRST CLASS

Star Trek has always had some wonderfully fun episodes to break up the drama in a season, and Star Trek: Voyager is no exception!

Season 5’s “Bride of Chaotica!” is a great homage to the sci-fi movie serials of the 30’s and 40’s like Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon, but this one has a decidedly Star Trek twist on it.

We’ll talk about what makes this episode so great and why it’s one you should watch again. It even gets Bill’s thumbs up–and he’d never seen it before!

Plus, don’t forget to listen for your special discount code from FanSets in this week’s episode!

Episode 155: Waltz

A DESCENT INTO MADNESS

He was the Prefect of Bajor and later the Leader of the Cardassian Union. On Stardate 51408.6, though, Gul Dukat held another notable title:

Prisoner.

…of the United Federation of Planets, and to the voices in his own head.

We’ll take a look at this amazing sixth season episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with a particular focus on the remarkable performances by Marc Alaimo and Avery Brooks.

Plus, we’ll talk to two Star Trek legends: JG Hertzler and Robert O’Reilly about their upcoming appearance at the Northeast Trek Con at the Albany Capital Center in Albany, NY, October 28-28, 2018! Listen as we try to get a word in edgewise with these two hilarious gentlemen!

Episode 153: Geek the Stump

NOT-SO-EPIC TRIVIA

Throughout the decades, Star Trek fans have always tested each other at trivia. They challenge one another with seemingly impossible questions to celebrate the most obscure and celebrated aspects of Star Trek.

Yeah, that’s not what’s going to happen today.

This week, Bill will have to answer questions along the level of Teen Jeopardy in “Geek the Stump!” (Dan’s turnabout response to our fan-favorite “Stump the Geek” episodes.)

Will Bill be able to answer the questions that a fifth grader who has only ever seen Trek ONCE could solve?  We’ll see! (It’s a good thing he’s on vacation because he may not want to come back after this performance!)

Enjoy the fun and the good times of Geek the Stump on this week’s installment of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Episode 152: Duet

SEASON 1’s BEST EPISODE

It is, perhaps, the best episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s first season and it’s among the best of the entire series.

“Duet” featured the story of a Cardassian war criminal to be put on trial by the Bajorans…or…does it?

We’ll look at the Emmy worthy performances of Nana Visitor as well as guest star Harris Yulin in this compelling drama about hatred, forgiveness, and change.

Plus, we make a big announcement about Northeast Trek Con in Albany, NY on October 26-28! Plus, find out how YOU can win one of two weekend passes to this fantastic convention!

THE VISITOR

It is, perhaps, the greatest love story in Star Trek, and the finest hour of the franchise.
