Episode 128: Dear Doctor

BEFORE THE PRIME DIRECTIVE

This week, we examine an episode that foreshadows Starfleet’s Prime Directive!

“Dear Doctor” was the thirteenth episode of Enterprise (later to be renamed Star Trek: Enterprise) and it presented an interesting dilemma for the Chief Medical Officer and Captain of the NX-01.

It’s an episode that presents our characters with changing the evolution of an entire race and the potential ramifications.  This is a fantastic episode of Enterprise and we’ll tell you why we love it–and why it took us almost 17 years to rewatch it.

Plus, news about a brand new Star Trek game, STLV guest updates, and rumors on when Star Trek: Discovery might go before the cameras to start shooting their second season on Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Episode 116: Twilight

ONE OF ENTERPRISE’S BEST

This week, Your Independent Star Trek Podcast returns with a look at one of the best “Reset Button” episodes ever.

You know, it’s one of those episodes where things occur and then everything is taken back to an earlier time and none of the characters remembers anything that actually happened in the episode?

It’s been used at various times throughout Trek, and this time, it’s one of the best uses of the style.

We’ll consider the episode “Twilight” from the third season of Star Trek: Enterprise and tell you why we love it. In fact, we’ll just tell you right up front why you need to watch this episode and what makes it so memorable, no pun intended.

Plus, Discovery news, Star Trek Online news, and the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation in this week’s episode of Trek Geeks!

Episode 102: Regeneration

A SEQUEL & A PREQUEL!

Back in 2003, Enterprise aired an episode featuring the Borg!

It was a controversial move among fans. The Borg weren’t introduced until season 2 of Star Trek: The Next Generation–and event which wouldn’t happen in the timeline for another 175 years or more. Still, the episode was based on the events of First Contact, creating both a sequel and a prequel.

This week, Dan and Bill dig in on this episode! We’ll discuss some of Regeneration’s finer points and discuss some key questions:

  • Was this episode was a mistake?
  • Did the crew of the NX-01 defeat the Borg a bit too easily?
  • Does this episode work as either a sequel or a prequel?

Plus, we’ll announce a giveaway winner for our Brainstorm Gear and we’ll tell you how you can still get in on the “Star Trek Cats” giveaway still going on in our official Facebook Group, Camp Khitomer!

That, and we’ll announce our affiliate partnership with CBS All Access! If you plan on subscribing to that service to see Star Trek: Discovery later this year, you can now help us out directly!

There’s lots to talk about in Episode 102 of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast and we hope you’ll join us!

Supplemental #10: Geek The Stump – Again!

PAYBACK!

A message from Dan Davidson, co-host of Trek Geeks: YOUR Independent Star Trek Podcast

“Not too long ago, oh about the time the Patriots were hoisting their 5th Lombardi Trophy, my illustrious Executive Producer decided to subject me to a “Superbowl Sized” Stump the Geek episode.  I wasn’t at the top of my game, however I fared OK.  I told him that he would pay…and well, the time has come.

Ahhh Bill, my old friend.  Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is trivia that is best served cold? It is very cold….is spaaaaaacccccceeee.”

On this Supplemental Episode, Dan rolls out another special edition of “Geek the Stump,” where the tables are turned and Bill has to answer Trek related questions with a completely made up point system!  Can Bill hold his own?  Will Dan throw in a couple softball questions to make things easier on his best friend, or will he show no mercy to retain his title as ultimate Trek Geek Trivia Champion?

Find out in this special Supplemental Episode of Trek Geeks!

THE FIRST ENTERPRISE

This week, Trek Geeks is back and we’re celebrating our second birthday! We figured what better way to celebrate than to take a closer look at one of the best pilots of all the Trek shows!

“Enterprise” (without the “Star Trek”) premiered in 2001 and it’s first episode, “Broken Bow,” took us back to a time before Kirk and Spock.

We’ll take a look at this episode and discuss it’s central themes, as well as some of the things that we think make it outstanding. We’ll also examine some of the things that this episode might not have done as well as perhaps it could have.

In addition, we’ll reveal the results of our Camp Khitomer poll on this episode and you’ll see what kind of ranking our Campers give this series pilot!

Episode 80: The Ultimate Crew

WHOM WOULD YOU PICK?

The Ultimate CrewOne of the coolest ideas in Star Trek Timelines is the ability to have any single member of the Star Trek Universe as part of your crew.  We are talking ANY character from any series, ship, timeline, universe, etc.  That got us thinking.  Who would WE pick for our ULTIMATE Crew?  We break down all the main crew assignments in this “infinite possibilities episode”.  Heck, even waste extraction is discussed because Bill thinks that would be perfect for Dan!

In Star Trek news, perhaps one of the most EPIC and awkward pics in history was taken recently at Star Trek Destination Europe as almost two dozen Star Trek alums got together on the bridge of the Enterprise!

Also, time to fork over some quatloos or gold pressed latinum because the revised and expanded Star Trek Encyclopedia is now available and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive!

Finally, both Bill and Dan received some swag in the mail over the weekend.  What did they get and who is more excited?

It’s Episode 80 of Trek Geeks–beam aboard, won’t you?

Episode 34: It’s Been A Long Road…

LOOKING AT STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about some of the other Star Trek television series, and we decided it was finally time to give the most recent one some love!

It’s hard to believe that Star Trek: Enterprise went off the air just over ten years ago, isn’t it? In this week’s episode, we’ll talk about a variety of topics regarding the last Trek show, including:

  • Did we like the premise and characters?
  • Was the Temporal Cold War a good idea?
  • Did the Xindi arc kill the series?

In addition, we’ll also talk about Dan’s favorite episodes–the Mirror Universe two-parter, of course! There’s a lot that happened in “In a Mirror, Darkly,” and we’ll talk about what worked for us in that story and what didn’t.

Then, Dan seizes control of the show once again and subjects Bill to the second-ever edition of GEEK THE STUMP!  Can Bill improve upon his disastrous showing in the last outing? Will he utterly embarrass himself like he did last time?

It’s a fun and engaging episode of the Trek Geeks Podcast and we hope you’ll join us!
