Episode 141: Odo & Quark

A COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP

Of all the relationships in Star Trek, perhaps none is as layered and complex as the one between Odo and Quark.

On one side, you have the lawful Odo who is responsible for ensuring the safety of one of the Alpha Quadrant’s most strategic locations. On the other, you have Ferengi bar owner Quark (he’s *not* a barkeep) who seems to turn every situation into gray area with his dealings.

It’s an unlikely friendship and we’ll dive in on it this week!

Plus news, and an announcement from Dan and Bill on their new venture in this week’s episode of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Episode 136: For the Uniform

AN INTENSE MIDDLE ACT

Last week, we began our look at what we refer to as “The Eddington Arc” in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine–the final three episodes with Starfleet officer turned Maquis terrorist, Michael Eddington. In part 1, we looked at his betrayal of Starfleet and Benjamin Sisko in “For the Cause,” and, this week, we look at the second act of this trilogy in the fifth season episode, “For the Uniform.”

We’ll examine the pursuit of Michael Eddington and the obsession of Benjamin Sisko and the lengths both men are willing to go.

It’s the middle act of a great Deep Space Nine mini-arc this week on Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Episode 114: Captive Pursuit

PARENTAL ADVISORY

The following episode of the podcast contains mature content and themes including an open and frank discussion on the topics of suicide and self-harm which may be unsuitable for younger listeners.

Parental discretion is strongly advised.

This week, we look at the sixth episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Captive Pursuit introduces us to the first visitor to the station from the Gamma Quadrant. He is Tosk and there’s a lot he’s not telling our crew.

This was an episode that demonstrated that DS9 could be every bit as much Trek as TOS and TNG before it, and there’s a lot to discover in this story.

Additionally, this was the episode that literally saved Dan’s life and we’ll talk about the episode in that context as well.

We hope you will join us for this very special episode of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast.

DISCOVERING TREK

This episode also features a preview of the full-length Episode 0 of our brand new podcast, “Discovering Trek: A Star Trek Discovery Companion!”

Stay tuned after the end theme for our introduction to the new show and when you’re done, head on over to DiscoveringTrek.com to find out more!

Speaking of heists: we’ll also take a look at the film that served as the inspiration for this fun holosuite caper, the 1960 classic, “Ocean’s 11” starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the rest of the Rat Pack.

Plus, we’ll update you on the latest from Star Trek: Discovery including the programming for the upcoming series on the STLV schedule!

Episode 103: J.G. Hertzler

CHANCELLOR OF THE HIGH COUNCIL

When we started the Trek Geeks Podcast two years ago, we compiled a list of names–those people we’d love to talk to on the show someday.

At the top of Dan’s list was J.G. Hertzler–the actor who played General/Chancellor Martok in 25 episodes Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and appeared as two other characters on that series.

We are honored and humbled to welcome J.G. to the podcast this week!

We’ll talk to J.G. about his time on the show and ask why he thinks that DS9 is enjoying such a resurgence now. We’ll also talk about what it’s like to work with Avery Brooks and also about his “The Left Hand of Destiny” series of novels featuring Martok!

We’ll also find out who the better rapper is: J.G. or actor Robert O’Reilly who played Gowron!

Plus–we’ll have an update on our Cosplay for Good campaign to raise money for the Nevada SPCA and we’ll announce the winners of our Star Trek Cats giveaway!

It’s all in Episode 103 of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast—Q’APLA!!

Supplemental #10: Geek The Stump – Again!

PAYBACK!

A message from Dan Davidson, co-host of Trek Geeks: YOUR Independent Star Trek Podcast

“Not too long ago, oh about the time the Patriots were hoisting their 5th Lombardi Trophy, my illustrious Executive Producer decided to subject me to a “Superbowl Sized” Stump the Geek episode.  I wasn’t at the top of my game, however I fared OK.  I told him that he would pay…and well, the time has come.

Ahhh Bill, my old friend.  Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is trivia that is best served cold? It is very cold….is spaaaaaacccccceeee.”

On this Supplemental Episode, Dan rolls out another special edition of “Geek the Stump,” where the tables are turned and Bill has to answer Trek related questions with a completely made up point system!  Can Bill hold his own?  Will Dan throw in a couple softball questions to make things easier on his best friend, or will he show no mercy to retain his title as ultimate Trek Geek Trivia Champion?

Find out in this special Supplemental Episode of Trek Geeks!
