Episode 48: Kipleigh Brown

Qapla’, ‘Kip-le!Ep 48 - Kipleigh Brown

It isn’t everyday that a guest responds to an invitation to come on our show in Klingon! How could we not be excited?

In this weeks episode of  Trek Geeks – A Star Trek Podcast, Dan and Bill welcome the very funny and very talented Kipleigh Brown to the show!  As Lt. Barbara Smith, she has helped navigate Kirk and crew to new worlds and new civilizations in several episodes of Star Trek Continues, and we are thrilled to have her discuss her experiences on set!

Additionally we talk about other projects Kipleigh has been seen in, such as  “R.U.R.: Genesis” and “Yesterday was a Lie“, both directed by our good friend James Kerwin, as well as Season 3’s “The Forgotten” on Star Trek: Enterprise.  Whether it is stand up comedy, drama, science fiction or sounding like a robot, Kipleigh is always full of energy and ready to share some great stories!

In addition, the guys discuss Bill’s recent guest appearance on The Tricorder Transmissions’ Shore Leave Podcast as we finally “cross the podcast streams” with our good friends Jeff and Heather.

Also, Tony Todd in the new Star Trek Series on CBS All Access?  Your face in Star Trek: Wrath of Gems? The Trek Geeks Trek50 Project?  All this and more on Episode 48 of Trek Geeks!

Episode 40: TOS State of Mind!

WE HAVE ‘TOS’ ON THE BRAIN! (BRAIN AND BRAIN – WHAT IS BRAIN??)

Ep 40 - TOS State of Mind

It’s really no surprise that we are still riding high from our visit to the Star Trek Continues set recently.  As a result of being immersed in the TOS Universe for several days, we felt it was only fitting to dedicate Episode 40 of the Trek Geeks Podcast to The Original Series.

We will mix it up a bit by talking about things that we love as well as things that we hate about Kirk’s crew.  First we will discuss the characters from the Original Series that we truly despised for one reason or another.  Which characters, whether special guests or series regulars that just got under our skin, and why?  Then, as if were hit by the spores of Omicron Ceti III we delve into our most loved episodes of TOS!  You may be surprised.  As we like to say, the “Champion Rule” dictates that someone’s most loved episode is someone else’s most hated!

Also, our friends at Star Trek Continues had a lot of news this past week.  We will discuss the ribbon cutting ceremony they had for the new Engine Room, the announced title of Episode 6, the surprise visit of the one and only Rod Roddenberry to the set (yes we did get to meet him) and what it felt like for us when STC posted a pic of us with the Captain himself on their official Facebook page!

In addition we will talk about the latest levels of the Star Trek Renegades fundraiser and whether or not we think they will meet there goal.  With just days to go at the time of recording, they are close, but are they close enough?

Plus, a short, fan made teaser for Star Trek Deep Space 9 on Blue Ray recently started getting some traction on the web.  We will discuss why one of us is very excited about the possibility, while the other thinks is completely meaningless!

All this, plus the triumphant return of a special all TOS version of Stump The Geek in this week’s all-new episode of Trek Geeks – A Star Trek Podcast.

RENEGADES UPDATE

Since recording this episode, Star Trek Renegades surpassed their crowdfunding goal of $350,000.00 with approximately 32 hours to go in the campaign. How quickly things can change in less than a day!

Here is the Deep Space 9 on BluRay fan made teaser trailer…you decide!

Episode 39: Happy Treksgiving!

WHERE THE HECK WERE WE LAST WEEK?

Happy TreksgivingHere in the United States, it’s the week of both Thanksgiving (or “Treksgiving” as we like to call it) and Black Friday–the single biggest holiday shopping day of the year.

In this week’s episode of Trek Geeks, we’ll take a look at some of the gifts our fellow Trek Geeks might be interested in receiving this holiday season. Plus, we’ll take a few moments to share the things that we’re thankful for this year on a personal level.

Then…well…we’ll need to level with everyone and be honest about something.

As you might have noticed, we weren’t able to publish an episode of the podcast last week because we were both travelling. What we haven’t been able to tell you–until now–is where we were and why it postponed last week’s regularly scheduled episode.

This should give you a clue. They say a picture is worth a thousand words…

Trek Geeks with Vic Mignogna

That’s right! The Trek Geeks were the invited guests of the Star Trek Continues cast and crew as they filmed an episode last week! Now that their shoot is over, we’ll tell you a little bit about our trip and we’ll recount stepping foot on the iconic Bridge of the Starship Enterprise for the very first time.

We cannot thank the cast and crew of Star Trek Continues enough for their hospitality and their kindness. They are a truly amazing group of people and we were incredibly fortunate and grateful to spend a couple of days with them.

All that, plus we’ll talk about some of the latest Star Trek news in this week’s all-new episode of Trek Geeks – A Star Trek Podcast.

We hope that those of you traveling this week for the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States have a safe and Happy Treksgiving!

Star Trek Continues Premieres 2nd Episode

Lolani01

Star Trek Continues, the fan-produced web series that debuted in 2013 to rave reviews of it’s first episode, “Pilgrim of Eternity,” has made their second episode available for viewing!

Episode 2, “Lolani,” debuted this past Saturday night in Dallas, Texas at the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo and has since been posted to YouTube.  As backers of the KIRKstarter Campaign to fund episode 2, we here at TrekGeeks were entitled to a sneak preview of the episode–and we were not disappointed.

Lolani03We don’t want to give you too much detail because we want you to watch the episode and share it, but “Lolani” keeps the best traditions of Star Trek alive as it delivers a poignant script that’s well-crafted and almost flawless in its execution.

The returning cast making up the crew of the Starship Enteprise does a fantastic job in this episode. In the last episode, we noted that they avoided slipping into caricature–but in “Lolani,” they grow into these characters a little more and seem even more at ease.

Vic Mignogna’s portrayal of Captain Kirk is spot-on and the conflict and range of emotions he brings to this episode make the character as believable as original three seasons of Star Trek. Guest star Fiona Vroom also shines as the Orion slave girl, Lolani, for whom the episode is named.

Fans of 80’s television will appreciate two guest appearances in this episode–Erin Gray (Col. Wilma Deering from “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”) appears as Commodore Gray and Lou Ferrigno (TV’s “The Incredible Hulk) appears as Orion slave trader, Zaminhon–green paint, and all.

(If you are unable to see the embedded episode of Star Trek Continues above, please click here.)

“Lolani” is a fabulous episodes and Trek fans of all ages will enjoy it. It’s a story that’s worthy of the name “Star Trek” in every way.

See it. Share it. Most of all…enjoy it. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
