Episode 100: A Journey to Future’s Past, Part 1

BEAMING ABOARD STAR TREK CONTINUES!

Well, here we are.  Who would have thought two and a half years ago when we started this incredible journey that we would be bringing you Episode 100 of the Trek Geeks Podcast.  We could not be more thankful to each and every one of our listeners for making this happen.  We are so grateful to all of you.  For this wonderful occasion we felt we wanted to do something special and unique.  It isn’t everyday you celebrate Episode 100, so we wanted it to be something that is very near and dear to our hearts.

In November of 2015, we had the trip of a lifetime.  Vic Mignogna, creator, executive producer and star of Star Trek Continues, invited us to Stage 9 while the cast and crew were filming Episodes 6 and 7. We were able to witness first hand what it was like to see an episode of Star Trek being made and we were able to walk the corridors of the U.S.S. Enterprise.  We met so many wonderful people, we became friends with all of them, and most importantly we became family.  It was an experience like none other so we wanted to share that experience with you.

We hope you enjoy our audio documentary of our experience on the set of Star Trek Continues in our super-sized Episode 100: A Journey to Future’s Past, Part 1.

SPECIAL THANKS

Episode 99: Still Treads the Shadow

SPOILER ALERT!

It has been too long since the cast and crew of Star Trek Continues released Episode 7, so we have been waiting as patiently as possible for the latest adventure from our friends at STC.

As Nero would say, “The wait is over!” and we are thrilled that Episode 8 of this highly acclaimed fan production is now available.  Released to fans over the weekend of April  1st, “Still Treads the Shadow” continues the story first told in the TOS episode “The Tholian Web.”

While investigating an event horizon in an uninhabited system, the crew of the Enterprise are shocked to come across the U.S.S Defiant, thought to be lost in interspace over a year ago!  The surprises don’t stop there when it is revealed that the Defiant has a single passenger on board, and the condition and identity of that someone is what the crew least expected!  We think you will agree that STC has once again given us an amazing episode filled with drama and awesome guest stars!

Plus, as a special bonus we are joined by The Captain himself, Vic Mignogna (in a record 4th appearance on Trek Geeks), to discuss this amazing story and the INCREDIBLE performance he gives in this episode.

It’s all in Episode 99 of “Your Independent Star Trek Podcast” and we hope you’ll join us!

Episode 91: The Axanar Settlement

THE LATEST FROM AXAMONITOR

The Axanar Settlement with AxamonitorWith just 11 days before the start of a copyright infringement trial, Axanar Productions and Alec Peters announced they had settled the lawsuit brought against them by CBS and Paramount Pictures.

It was a case that had taken many twists and turns, ultimately revealing in court filings that the “Independent Star Trek Film” was out of money, having spent $1,400,000.00 with nothing to show for it.

Joining us to talk about the settlement is screenwriter and producer Carlos Pedraza–the principal behind AxaMonitor.com–the fact-checking and reporting that was created in the wake of the lawsuit against Axanar Productions and Alec Peters. He is also a former educator, Associated Press writer, and Fan Film Producer—three past lives which have all added a unique and wonderful perspective to his coverage of this whole mess.

We’ll discuss what this agreement means for the beleaguered production and what will happen to the film itself. Plus, we’ll discuss the potential ramifications for Star Trek fans who donated to the crowdfunding and what recourse they might have. We’ll also pose questions to Carlos from our Official Facebook Group, Camp Khitomer!

Episode 80: The Ultimate Crew

WHOM WOULD YOU PICK?

The Ultimate CrewOne of the coolest ideas in Star Trek Timelines is the ability to have any single member of the Star Trek Universe as part of your crew.  We are talking ANY character from any series, ship, timeline, universe, etc.  That got us thinking.  Who would WE pick for our ULTIMATE Crew?  We break down all the main crew assignments in this “infinite possibilities episode”.  Heck, even waste extraction is discussed because Bill thinks that would be perfect for Dan!

In Star Trek news, perhaps one of the most EPIC and awkward pics in history was taken recently at Star Trek Destination Europe as almost two dozen Star Trek alums got together on the bridge of the Enterprise!

Also, time to fork over some quatloos or gold pressed latinum because the revised and expanded Star Trek Encyclopedia is now available and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive!

Finally, both Bill and Dan received some swag in the mail over the weekend.  What did they get and who is more excited?

It’s Episode 80 of Trek Geeks–beam aboard, won’t you?

Episode 76: Embracing the Winds

SPOILER ALERT!

Embracing the WindsAfter a one week hiatus, the Trek Geeks are back in their podcast chairs and ready to discuss the latest amazing episode from Star Trek Continues.

Episode 7 of this highly acclaimed fan production tackles a very interesting and controversial topic that began almost 50 years ago with the final episode of TOS, “Turnabout Intruder.”  In “Embracing the Winds,” we finally find out why female officers have never been in command of a constitution class starship!  Additionally, we see yet another ship–the U.S.S. Hood–fall prey to a mysterious anomaly.  We think you will agree that STC has once again given us an amazing episode filled with drama and awesome guest stars!

In addition to a spoiler-filled rundown of the plot, Dan and Bill discuss the myriad of Star Trek themed easter eggs in this episode and as always discuss whether or not it IS Star Trek!

Plus, there are lots of interesting news topics to discuss including the pushed back premier date of Star Trek Discovery to May 2017, the debut of Star Trek Online to Xbox One and PS4 consoles and we may even get to hear our beloved Majel Barrett as the computer voice in DSC and maybe even your mobile phone someday!

All this and more as Dan returns from Walt Disney World!  “Happiest Place on Earth?”  No way!  That’s right here, rejoining Bill in Episode 76 of the Trek Geeks Podcast!

Episode 65: The Axanar Rules

The Axanar RulesTHANKS, AXANAR.

In this week’s episode, we’ll take an in-depth look at the new Fan Film Guidelines released by CBS last week!

These guidelines seem to change fan films as we know them–and they’re all the result of one production’s actions. For months, Axanar Productions has complained that there were no guidelines. Their constant complaining has prompted CBS to give them exactly what they wanted–and now all fan films will have to pay the price. Be careful what you wish for, right?

There are still a lot of unknowns in this process, but we’ll examine the new rules as fans and what we believe they translate to.

Plus, there is a LOT of huge news in this episode: Blu-Ray returns, a new Star Trek Beyond trailer, RIHANNA…it’s all in Episode 65: The Axanar Rules!
