Episode 108: See-It or Skip-It TNG S4

AHEAD FULL, MR. CRUSHER!

It is time for another fun filled See-It or Skip-It episode from your two favorite Trek Geeks! This week we will tackle Season 4 of The Next Generation and we are joined by fellow podcaster and good friend David Duncan from The Synthaholics Podcast!  He will referee the discussion and make sure Bill and Dan stay on point!  Last SIoSI we had pretty high marks for Season 3.  Will Season 4 be just as recommended or will the percentages start to level out a bit?

In addition, the “Cosplay for Good” fundraising campaign is in full swing!  The Geeks are raising money to help the Nevada SPCA, the largest no kill animal shelter in the Las Vegas and have the latest update on their progress.  On the busiest day of STLV, they will be wearing skants from TNG Season 1 for a really great cause!  They are getting close to their goal of 1,000.00 but still need your help!

It’s all in Episode 108 of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast! This DEFINITELY is a “HEAR IT”!

Episode 106: Star Trek Nemesis

WAS IT THE PROPER SEND-OFF?

Can you learn to see in the dark, Captain?” – Shinzon

It was a dark movie. Literally and figuratively.  It ended up being the last of the Star Trek movies with the TNG cast.  But was it a worthy finale??

This week, the Trek Geeks will give their take on Star Trek: Nemesis.  Their memories of the 2002 film are not as positive as other feature films, and they will jump right into the reasons why this was a less than stellar big screen exit for Picard and his crew.

Prime Directive violations, dark sets, “tired” acting.  This list goes on and on.  But fear not, there are plenty of things that the Geeks liked, and they will get into those too!

Plus, perhaps the biggest announcement ever from our good friends at Star Trek Continues dropped this week!  Also, a familiar face recently got to test out the new Star Trek Bridge Crew virtual reality game.  What did she have to say?

In addition, if you are attending San Diego ComicCon or STLV, you may want to make some room for a new con exclusive Holiday Keepsake ornament!  Finally, QMx is releasing a replica of a classic TOS piece of furniture and we have all the details for you!

It’s all in Episode 106 of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast! We hope you’ll join us as we raise a glass of Chateau Picard!

Star Trek Continues Launches “KIRKstarter”

STCkirkstarter

We here at TrekGeeks are big fans of the Internet-based “Star Trek Continues” series!

Their premiere episode, “Pilgrim of Eternity,” was an outstanding production and one which we called, “comfort food for Trekkies” and what we felt could have been the “80th episode of Star Trek.” The writing, the sets, the lighting, the music cues–all of it evoked the original spirit and feel of the series we love so dearly.

Well, now STC is raising funds for it’s second episode via Kickstarter–and they’re hoping that the overwhelmingly positive fan reaction to the first episode will translate to support in their campaign.

The Kickstarter asks for $100,000 to cover expenses related to the production such as equipment rentals, set pieces, insurance, building lease, and more. Unlike many Kickstarter’s, the Star Trek Continues team developed and funded the first episode entirely on its own in order to provide a glimpse of exactly what they were capable of with regard to the online series.

If you haven’t seen their first episode, “Pilgrim of Eternity,” you really owe it to yourself to watch it.

I’m very excited to see this project progress and I have made a modest donation to their KIRKstarter to help get the second episode produced.  Every little bit helps!

Best of luck to the STC team!  We’ll keep you posted as the project progresses!

Star Trek: Renegades Launches Indiegogo Campaign

on-djakaar-3Renegades Studios, the team that brought us “Star Trek: Of Gods And Men” in 2007 and 2008, have launched a fund raising effort to produce a pilot for a possible new online or cable series.

Star Trek: Renegades” is a production written by Ethan H. Calk, Jack Treviño, and Sky Conway and directed by “Star Trek: Voyager’s” Tuvok, Tim Russ. They had recently completed a Kickstarter campaign which provided an initial minimum amount of funding.  From their website:

Since that time, we have completed the script, and it is much more ambitious than we originally envisioned.  We quickly realized the minimum budget amount we raised will not be enough to complete our production – at least not to the standards we want.  We’ve already made a few cuts in the script with regard to characters, locations and visual effects. But bottom line, we want to present CBS with the absolute best, highest quality, professional product we can create, and we need more funding to do that.

The campaign also provides a brief synopsis of the pilot’s story:

Ten years after Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, the Federation is in crisis. Someone has caused space and time to fold around several planets, all of which are the Federation’s main suppliers of dilithium, essentially cutting off the supply for several millennia.  Starfleet’s methods to stop those responsible have been ineffective. This necessitates more drastic measures, some of which are outside the Federation’s jurisdiction. It now falls to Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, and Commander Tuvok, Voyager’s former security officer and new head of the clandestine Section 31, to put together a new covert, renegade crew – primarily comprised of outcasts, rogues and even criminals.  But can they refrain from killing each other to accomplish their task? That may be the bigger question…

The Indiegogo campaign is 45 days long and principal photography begins on October 2, regardless of how much they’ve raised. They’ve released a promotional video on the Indiegogo page which features both Tim Russ as well as Original Series legend Walter Koenig.

(If you are unable to see the embedded video above, please click here to view it on YouTube.)

Like most internet fund raising campaigns, there are various levels of perks available based on your level of contribution. Renegades has donation levels as low as $10.00.

The Star Trek: Renegades Indiegogo campaign can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/star-trek-renegades

This looks like an exciting project and, if the promo video is any indication, it’s got lots of potential!  We look forward to hearing updates on the production!
