Episode 55: The Worst of Times

“IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES…Ep 55 - The Worst of Times

…it was the worst of times.  Message, Spock?”

“None that I am conscious of, except of course, these movies sucked.  Surely, the worst of times.”

This week on Trek Geeks, Dan and Bill tackle what they think are the worst of the Star Trek movies!

It isn’t always rainbows and unicorns and eternal happiness when it comes to good Trek stories and today’s discussion focuses on the the ones that they would both like to flush down the Trek toilet!

Once their lists have been revealed and discussed, it is THUNDERDOME time as they go head to head for the ultimate Star Trek Toilet Trophy for Worst Trek Film EVER!

Plus, from our friends at TrekNews.net, we can look forward to a new BluRay of ST:TWOK, a new ST:BEYONNND trailer, and some rumors about the new CBS ALL ACCESS Star Trek series, set for launch in January 2017.  Also, we have a special favor to ask of the listeners of our podcast–and you could win $25 as a result!

And what’s this?  A special message from Balok?  Well then, sit!  Be comfortable!

The conversation may be about the worst, but you will have the BEST time tuning into this week’s episode!

Episode 53: The Dreamer & The Dream

ONE OF TREK’S FINEST HOURS

Ep 53 - The Dreamer and The DreamAs Bill was gallivanting on an awe inspiring Tattoo Trek to Las Vegas, Dan decided that this week would be a great time to discuss one of  the best episodes in Star Trek History: Deep Space Nine’s “Far Beyond the Stars”, and when Bill returned, he wholeheartedly agreed!

Star Trek has always been about facing ‘issues of the day’ head on, and this episode is the PERFECT example of just that.  From the incredible acting, to Avery Brooks’ amazing directing, to the ugly truth about racism and bigotry, this episode is considered by fans and cast alike as one of the greatest.

We discuss all the things that we loved about the episode as well as a couple of things that we actually didn’t like. This kind of episode can really cause some intense discussion because of the subject matter, and our discussion is no exception!

In addition, we announce the winners of our Star Trek Timelines Poster contest, discuss or trip to Boston to see Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage and what we think of the announcement that Star Trek The Animated Series is coming to Blu-Ray.  Wait…what?

So sit back, relax and enjoy Episode 53 of Trek Geeks – A Star Trek Podcast!  It isn’t a dream!  It is REAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!  It’s REAAAALLLLLLLLL!  It is REALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

CHECK OUT BILL’S NEW TATTOO!

Bill was in Las Vegas recently to get a brand new Star Trek tattoo! He had a TOS style pinup tattoo designed and it was tattooed by a true Ink Master–Sausage from Revolt Tattoos!

Check out a couple of photos below and check out the current season of Ink Master on Spike! (Check local listings for times.)

Episode 40: TOS State of Mind!

WE HAVE ‘TOS’ ON THE BRAIN! (BRAIN AND BRAIN – WHAT IS BRAIN??)

Ep 40 - TOS State of Mind

It’s really no surprise that we are still riding high from our visit to the Star Trek Continues set recently.  As a result of being immersed in the TOS Universe for several days, we felt it was only fitting to dedicate Episode 40 of the Trek Geeks Podcast to The Original Series.

We will mix it up a bit by talking about things that we love as well as things that we hate about Kirk’s crew.  First we will discuss the characters from the Original Series that we truly despised for one reason or another.  Which characters, whether special guests or series regulars that just got under our skin, and why?  Then, as if were hit by the spores of Omicron Ceti III we delve into our most loved episodes of TOS!  You may be surprised.  As we like to say, the “Champion Rule” dictates that someone’s most loved episode is someone else’s most hated!

Also, our friends at Star Trek Continues had a lot of news this past week.  We will discuss the ribbon cutting ceremony they had for the new Engine Room, the announced title of Episode 6, the surprise visit of the one and only Rod Roddenberry to the set (yes we did get to meet him) and what it felt like for us when STC posted a pic of us with the Captain himself on their official Facebook page!

In addition we will talk about the latest levels of the Star Trek Renegades fundraiser and whether or not we think they will meet there goal.  With just days to go at the time of recording, they are close, but are they close enough?

Plus, a short, fan made teaser for Star Trek Deep Space 9 on Blue Ray recently started getting some traction on the web.  We will discuss why one of us is very excited about the possibility, while the other thinks is completely meaningless!

All this, plus the triumphant return of a special all TOS version of Stump The Geek in this week’s all-new episode of Trek Geeks – A Star Trek Podcast.

RENEGADES UPDATE

Since recording this episode, Star Trek Renegades surpassed their crowdfunding goal of $350,000.00 with approximately 32 hours to go in the campaign. How quickly things can change in less than a day!

Here is the Deep Space 9 on BluRay fan made teaser trailer…you decide!

Into Darkness comes to DVD/BluRay on 9/10

stid_Posters.png

Digital Download for iTunes (and presumably, Google Play) will available three weeks earlier in 8/20.

From StarTrek.com:

Star Trek Into Darkness will beam onto Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD and On Demand in the U.S. on September 10, via Paramount Home Media Distribution; fans can access the Digital version three weeks early, on August 20. The J.J. Abrams-directed blockbuster, which is still playing in theaters across the U.S. and internationally, has so far grossed a whopping $445 million, making it the top-grossing Star Trek film…ever.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, which includes the Digital edition, will feature numerous extras, including “Creating the Red Planet,” a peek into the creation of the world glimpsed in the film’s opening sequence; “The Klingon Home World,” a featurette about Kronos and the new-look Klingons; “Attack on Starfleet,” with the cast and filmmakers discussing the pivotal sequence; “Ship to Ship,” a piece about the space jump scene; “Brawl by the Bay,” with Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch discussing the Spock-Khan throwdown; and “The Enemy of My Enemy,” which examines the how and why of choosing Khan as the villain and the decision to keep his identity under wraps.

The Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack includes all of the above, plus the film in hi-def and 3D (on a disc presented in 1080p high-definition), while the Single-Disc DVD presents the film in widescreen enhanced for 16:9. The Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/On Demand Combo will cost $49.99, with the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack priced at $39.99 and the Single-Disc DVD at $29.99.

Star Trek Into Darkness is available from all major retailers, as well as online retailers like Amazon.com (which comes with a replica phaser from Quantum Mechanix), BestBuy.com, and Walmart.com (which comes with a Hot Wheels 1/50th scale version of the U.S.S. Vengeance as a Walmart exclusive).
