Episode 141: Odo & Quark

A COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP

Of all the relationships in Star Trek, perhaps none is as layered and complex as the one between Odo and Quark.

On one side, you have the lawful Odo who is responsible for ensuring the safety of one of the Alpha Quadrant’s most strategic locations. On the other, you have Ferengi bar owner Quark (he’s *not* a barkeep) who seems to turn every situation into gray area with his dealings.

It’s an unlikely friendship and we’ll dive in on it this week!

Plus news, and an announcement from Dan and Bill on their new venture in this week’s episode of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Episode 140: Star Trek (2009)

REBOOTING THE ORIGINAL SERIES

Few decisions in the Star Trek universe were more controversial than the announcement that there would be a new cast for movies featuring Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and the cast of Star Trek. This week, we’ll look at that first film in what has become known as The Kelvin Timeline!

Directed by JJ Abrams, this movie went on to become a global success, bringing a new generation of fans into the Star Trek universe.

We’ll discuss our reactions to the various announcements for this film–including the casting of the legendary Leonard Nimoy himself. We’ll also look at the story and which elements we liked, as well as what things we might have liked to have seen changed.

Episode 139: Say Something Nice

SILVER LININGS

There’s always something to love in every episode of Trek and this week, we’ll take a look at the episodes we like the least in a completely different light!

Introducing, “Say Something Nice!”

The rules are simple: take an episode you don’t necessarily like and pick something you really enjoy about it. It could be a scene, or a production element, or a line, or even a performance. Anything that you think is a silver lining in an otherwise unlikable episode.

Joining us to find the best in these episodes is the most positive Star Trek fan we know: the Enterprise Extra! Jim Moorhouse from the Trek Ranks Podcast on The Tricorder Transmissions Network stops by to share his picks and talk about ours.

Which episodes make our list?  Find out now!

Plus, we’ll announce the four winners of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D from Eaglemoss Collections. Find out if you won and listen now!

Episode 137: Blaze of Glory

THE FINAL ROUND

The first two rounds of this epic struggle have been amazing and, this week on Your Independent Star Trek Podcast, we consider the final round of Sisko vs. Eddington with “Blaze of Glory” from Season 5 of Deep Space Nine!

It’s been a contest of wills with each move being incredibly calculated by each man. Now. Benjamin Sisko must rely on the help of Maquis operative (and Starfleet prisoner) Michael Eddington to prevent an attack on Cardassia.

Can the attack be stopped in time before it starts a full scale war? Find out on this week’s episode of Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!

Plus, Star Trek news and find out how YOU can win the USS Enterprise D from The Official Star Trek Starships Collection from Eaglemoss in this week’s episode!

Episode 136: For the Uniform

AN INTENSE MIDDLE ACT

Last week, we began our look at what we refer to as “The Eddington Arc” in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine–the final three episodes with Starfleet officer turned Maquis terrorist, Michael Eddington. In part 1, we looked at his betrayal of Starfleet and Benjamin Sisko in “For the Cause,” and, this week, we look at the second act of this trilogy in the fifth season episode, “For the Uniform.”

We’ll examine the pursuit of Michael Eddington and the obsession of Benjamin Sisko and the lengths both men are willing to go.

It’s the middle act of a great Deep Space Nine mini-arc this week on Your Independent Star Trek Podcast!
